Missing "Software Update" option in my LG O2X - LG Optimus 2x

Hi all,
My wife just bought an LG O2X and the phone is running into some restart/freeze problems so I thought I'd check to see if there are updates available to address the issues.
What I realized immediately was that there isn't an option to perform a software update from the phone. I checked with a colleague's O2X which is running the same phone version as my wife's and found out that there is indeed a "Software Update" option that can be accessed via Settings > About Phone > Software Update. This option is currently missing and I'm wondering if anyone else has the same issue.
Anyway, my software version info
Baseband Version: 1035.21_20110218
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-dirty
Build Number: FRG83G
LGE Version: LGP990-V10a

I do have the same software version with your wife O2X, but i did not have that problem. There is software update option in my o2X.

Interesting...
I want a version without this option.
Could you upload the Settings.apk from your wife's phone and attach it here?
It is in /system/app/
In return I'll have a look and if it what I suspect it is can probably get that option back for you.

The phone's not rooted so I'm not sure if I can access it. But I'll see if I can grab that .apk for you later.
It's not so important for me to get that option back but rather I wanna find out if it's something wrong with the s/w that came with the handset; and if there are others who has the same issue.

Hi djmcnz,
Here's the file you wanted.
Cheers

This is indeed weird. For me it was the brightness option which were greyed out and only get enabled after I rebooted the phone.

Thanks for this, it's quite interesting. The file you posted is from an early build (10a of course but it seems like an early revision of even that).
The one you posted is about 2MB smaller than the rather more common one floating around and contains far less translations into other languages.
You will get that option, without rooting, if you NVFlash the 10b version of the stock rom that is posted here. However, since you're stock and not rooted you can probably update via the LG Desktop tool because I think 10b is general release now. If it is not it won't be long before it is.
You probably won't get OTA update notifications (do you have a file called 'OmaDmclient.apk' in /system/app/ ?) but the desktop tool doesn't depend on these.
You're not missing much and you will get an official update for sure but you can also do it manually if you like.
Thanks for taking the time to post the file.

Sweet
Actually, I'd like to add to this and say - "sweet".
The LG update system runs on the phone at all times, it consumes about 20MB of RAM and auto-restarts if it's killed. This is the OmaDmclient.apk.
For those running a custom ROM this process is practically useless because it may notify an update is available but it won't be able to download or install it. If you are using a custom ROM you typically get notifications of updates from forums anyway.
Simply removing the OmaDmclient.apk saves the RAM but makes the Settings | About Phone menu force close. I was living with that but wanted to fix it.
Now, having taken some code from the Settings.apk posted here and inserting that into the more recent Settings.apk I can delete the OmaDmclient.apk, save 20MB of RAM and have a fully functioning Settings menu, less the update option I do not use!
20 free MB of RAM is good RAM.
I think I'll release this for others to use.
Thanks again!

Hey djmcnz,
Sorry for the late response. Great find there, I'm glad I'm not missing out much and the file was of use to you.
I just got LG to replace the mainboard for me (not to mention upgrade to the new firmware) and so far I wasn't able to reproduce the old issues I had. But I now have the greyed out brightness option. Haha. I'll plug in my SIM card later and see if that might be the issue.
Thanks for looking into this!

I am having the same problem. No software update option. v10b baseband 405 from India. Any help how can i get the option back?

Check this my own experience about Optimus 2x P990

solution: root it and install a non-stock ROM (CM7.2 or MIUI are great ones). The performance difference and visual improvement is well worth it. And if warranty claims are needed flashing back to unrooted stock is quite easy.

[SOLVED] I need everyones help! Easy Solution to get the USA WIFI Upgrade!

After screwing around for hours I have been able to get the Official dell upgrade (workaround). I realize that some want to upgrade in specific ways. But for those of us that are interested in just getting a factory upgrade here is what I have found. I believe it is a simple case of connecting the dots. All I needed was someone to provide the USA upgrade path Thanks (TheManii) For your wisdom.
So here is what worked for me. Make sure you use NVFLASH and downgrade to Froyo 2.2.2 USA WIFI.
Then with your Streak 7 connected to the internet enter the following URL in your android web browser.
http://mobileupdate.dell.com/?version=GLUNB1A334430&servicetag=PPPPPPP
Your service tag will remain as it was before the upgrade as TheManii Stated. All we needed was the correct upgrade path. Remember this has only been tested on a tablet that has been downgraded with the Froyo USA wifi Rom provided on these forums.
This will start your official update via the download page. When it is finished just click on the downloaded file and this will allow you to get the Honeycomb 3.2 Goodness youve been waiting for simply and reliably!
Enjoy,
Stingerrray
Firstly you dont need your service tag, it only depends on your installed rom.
Secondly all it does is lead your to the download page to the pkgs,
all known available pkgs are available here or on the update guide I linked to.
If you dont get a notification you wouldnt be able to update anyway, as it will check before install if you're compatable.
The currently available upgrade paths are
EU Wifi: 340/344 -> 507
EU 3g: 340/344 -> 507
US wifi: 340/344 -> 506
EU wifi submodel: 1A3
EU 3g submodel: 1A2
US wifi submodel: 1A3
The device string is constructed as:
GxxxByyyzzzaa-bbb
xxxx is always LUN as this is it's codename (The dell codename for the s7 was "looking glass", the qisda codename was "luna")
yyy is the submodel number listed above
zzz is the current rom version
aa is the region.
bbb is not valid on the S7, but on the S5 and venue this is your modem region (either US, EU, or AWS)
So the upgrade paths are:
EU Wifi:
GLUNB1A334000 -> GLUNB1A350700
GLUNB1A334400 -> GLUNB1A350700
EU 3g:
GLUNB1A234000 -> GLUNB1A250700
GLUNB1A234400 -> GLUNB1A250700
US Wifi:
GLUNB1A334030 -> GLUNB1A350630
GLUNB1A334430 -> GLUNB1A350630
For the moment the US roms 325, 340 are not canidates to update, so they're either stuck on 2.2 or have to manually update.
Until the tmo update actually comes out I'm going under the assumption that it's not currently planned to come out.
(There is also the US 4G 322/333 -> 338, but it's very old)
This covers every publically available roms. Roms that are not publicly available will never recieve update notifications.
This system is identical to the one used on the Streak 5, 10 and venue
all the links do is link to the update pkgs and the update page. If you cant acces the update page to download them you wont be able to install them anyway.
http://mobileupdate.dell.com/?version=GLUNB1A334430&servicetag=PPPPPPP
So if P is replaced with your service tag it wont work either?
Will you get a version mismatch?
I'm trying right now thanks for your help. It is DL now.
Stingerrray
your rom must EXACTLY match one of the above ones
AND your device must not have clockwork
AND must not have a custom rom installed
for it to update sucessfully though "check for updates"
If "check for updates" doesnt give an update, you will get a fota mismatch
---------- Post added at 11:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:40 PM ----------
Also, all known pkgs are already listed on Dell Streak 7- xda wiki
The only things missing are older rom versions. Many of which were recently reported during the HC rollout
OK if it is too simple it usually does not work. Ill keep rooting around. I like to try and find an easy upgrade path for the masses.
Thanks,
Stingerrray
The right was is to flash the matching recovery and use the pkg, assuming you're not on honeystreak.
Tegra2 device users are far too reliant on nvflash to do the work for them.
In my case it is not being reliant. But just trying to find the path of least resistance. Thanks for the info you did indeed allow me to get the USA upgrade. All i thought I needed was the OEM VERSION Numbers that were being rolled out. So I will change this to a simple guide.
Thanks,
Stingerrray
Essentially any user who decides to root their (android) device and/or install a custom rom/modify the system paritition should have fastboot properly installed and usable for their device.
This is rarely the case as I've seen for Streak 5 and 7 users. If that were the case updating to the correct rom even if yours isnt a valid upgrade path is only 4 steps:
1) Download the recovery and pkg
2) copy the pkg to the 'sdcard'
3) flash the recovery
4) do a 'install from pkg'
Excluding the downloading step, this is nominally 3 minutes of work.
If you dont modify your device at all this is essentially 1 step as "check for updates" does all this for you
So can I use that link to install it on my streak with 338 that is wifi only?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
yes you can.
Stingerrray
I believe 338 can update to to 506 by merely copying the update.pkg to it's 'sdcard' and flashing. Assuming you havnt modified your device
Yes as you stated that will work nicely. But if you have 338 all you need to do as an alternative method is paste the URL (from the main topic post) into the Froyo 2.2.2 web browser and that will start the official update download as well.
Thanks again TheManii for helping us with this extra easy solution!

Nope doesnt work on my 4g streak. Anyway funny story i jus had a confress call with tmobile and dell and according to the dell repthe 4g tmobile model will recieve the android hc update on friday. So idk how true this is. But hey i can dream right i mean lets see what happens im mean dell did release the 3g update in the uk so y not the 4g us version right. Well all i can do is wait, im not holding my breath tho.
It wont work on the US 4G model because it's a different region, that link is only valid for US wifi models
It is for USA wifi model only. It is untested on all others.

Thank-you Stingerray! After playing with all the other techniques here to get the US Wifi version on my device, your process WORKED! Smoothly I might add!
I was worried as my device ID is: GLUNB1A133830 and none of the update packages seemed to apply to a 1A1 device .. but I tried it anyway, and now I have Honeycomb up and running on my streak 7!
So Again, THANK-YOU!

That's not exactly true, my build was 1A13 something, checked for the update when I got home from work last night and had no update available. Clicked the link you had posted to the US wifi pkg, downloaded and installed perfectly, no clockwork just the standard update.
Exactly what I did and no issues as well.

I tried to downgrade the firmware. but in the new android 5.0.1 bootloader and recovery, and this does not take recovery firmware based on Android 4.4.2. And here is the update on the official website for ME572C, but only TW version, WW firmware not yet available. http://www.asus.com/ru/supportonly/ASUS MeMO Pad (ME572C)/HelpDesk_Download/
Yeah
I installed this night.
Sound is fine.
Tested on Audio Out and Bluetooth, but unfortunately no root possibility yet.
It broke my auto screen rotation. Although this isn't Asus fault it's a bug in lollipop. Also been reported on nexus and moto.
However I don't like the new look and don't like the new notification system or the way quick settings now require two swipes. Quick should mean quick.
Also noticed more lag in starting apps.
Want to revert back to 4.4.2 too

downgrade do not advise to do, I wanted to do this service firmware (which use service centers to flash, free access to this firmware is not), but killed the tablet, it will not turn on and hung on the splash screen Intel Inside. I repeat: who is not updated to 5.0.1 do not advise to do it, a lot of bugs in the new firmware.

Thats awful for you. Can't you get into any recovery anymore? Perhaps flash the 5.0.1. again?
I'm not going to try to downgrade but I wish I hadn't installed lollipop. I really like this tablet and everything worked perfectly. Now I have to rotate the screen manually. I cheked the sensors with a diagnostic tool and they are working fine. It's the software. It isn't known what triggers the bug so it could happen at any time or never. Nice work google.
Hopefully we'll have root and custom mods in the near future.

Hi, i try at the moment downgrade from the me581cl. It looks good. You can look at my thread Root with downgrade for the intel developer tool.
The highest importent file is the ifwi.bin.
You can it flash with fastboot flash dnx .....
Has anyone found a way to do this? I foolishly manually upgraded my ME572CL (JP SKU) with the WW 5.0.1 firmware. Seemed OK at first but now noticing a lot of bugs which are making it quite unpleasant to use. Lollipop firmware didn't seem to add anything much to the experience anyway, so I would really like to downgrade back to 4.4.2 but MOFD_SDUPDATE fails.

Thanks for interest that. But it seems that we have no ways to revert 5.0x upgrade to 4.4x with method such as reflash partition or something like that because of fastboot oem stuffs to unlock bootloader are completely changed.
The only thing I succeed was reflashing the same version of OTA image WW_V12.14.1.12 downloaded from ASUS site (stupidly I cleared partitions before I confirmed if oem unlock is still valid or not....so I tried this to unblrick my one..). I tried flash partitions with images extracted from older ROM and fastboot server said "Not able to downgrade to KK" or something like that.
Perhaps fastboot server checks version of current vs to be flashed and reject if the version of the software is OLDER THAN CURRENT. This perhaps shows we can inject some hacks into current image, but I have still no progress regarding this idea because I was newbie to IA architecture hacking....I'm guessing that reversing fastboot.img contents shows the way to next milestone....

On one russian forum there is already a person who was able to downgrade to 4.4. Although, he flashed something from "CL" version, instead of "C" so the tablet was unusable, thats why he brought it to Asus service, they did a normal downgrade for him, but it took almost a month.

Beside the changed bootloader & recovery i believe it is not possible because of the changed partition assignment on LP5.0.1. KK isnt compatible with that anymore i guess and as far as i can see the partition assignment is not renewed and rewritten within any of the prelollipop firmwares again.

[Q] Persistent Android L OTA Upgrade Notification

I am rooted, unlocked, and S-offed and running a custom GPE+ 5.0.1 ROM. I have an unpinnable notification that says "System Update Downloaded: Android L Upgrade for User/Release-Keys". It is an OTA update obviously, but doesn't even say what version it is. I believe I cannot install it because I am running a custom ROM, is that correct? If not, is there any way to install it? Otherwise, how can I get this notification to stop appearing? The update is ~300MB downloaded and I would love to have that space back. Also I think it is keeping my device awake because I use the Xposed mod "Notification Count" and it says the darn thing has sent out a notification a whopping 463 times since my last reboot - within 3-4 hours!. That is insane.
Any help will be appreciated.
EDIT: Woke up the next morning, and now the notification count for this stupid thing is "999+". WTF. Why does it have to be so insistent? Anybody have a solution to this?
A week passed and no response. Bump. Nobody has any idea how to get rid of this thing??

Is updating your custom rom to 5.1+ an option? Already many custom roms were updated to 5.1 even 5.1.1.
Interesting. Last time I checked there wasn't a 5.1 version. But it seems the dev recently implemented an initial version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...m-google-play-edition-lollipop-v1-00-t2963841
The current version of 5.1 of this ROM has some known bugs and I would like to hold off until they are fixed - I like having ambient display. Is it worth waiting until they are fixed, or should I just update now?
Is it safe for me to flash the 5.1 ROM over the 5.0.1 without doing even a cache wipe?

You should ask this one in your rom thread, sometime when the update is considered a major update, its recommend to do a full wipe, in some cases you are fine just updating without wiping. You could do a nandroid backup using your custom recovery (save it on your computer, not just on the phone) try to update without wiping. If its working fine, there is no problem, if not you can wipe your phone and restore your backup.
To disable the notification, I would try to go in settings --> apps --> all, search for the updater service, clear cache of that service and then disable it. Then find where the ota file is stored on your phone and delete it. Not sure if it will work, never tried myselef
Is there a way to do a nandroid backup directly to pc? Because I don't have room on my phone, and TWRP Manager only lets internal backups take place.
For some reason I can't search the apps in my ROM. The notification says it is from Google Play Services but I suspect that is simply routed requests from the actual updater service. Do you know what the name of the service is, so I can find it? I have a crazy number of apps and can't find it.
Hi Koolstr,
I know this thread is old, but wanted to let you know I am on an unlocked and rooted HTC One (m7) S-On. I am using TWRP and can backup to external storage using a Micro USB Powered Micro USB Host OTG cable, which I purchased from Amazon.
I am running:
Android version: 5.1
Rom: Google-Plus-Edition-LP_m7_v3.2_072915
Kernel: 3.4.10-NuK3rn3l-Lollipop_v8.00
I am getting a similar Android System Update: Android L upgrade for user/release-keys. I cannot get it to go away. I made a complete nandroid backup and then proceeded applying the update. It will reboot the phone into TWRP recovery and do nothing. The update goes away for a few days and then it comes back. I have tried to look for a way to disable the update, but I am at a stand still. If anyone knows that would be great.
Best,
manderson706
It's something that santod did. I believe there's a post in his topic with the fix. Or just flash the updated GPE from santod

Xiaomi MI5 pop-up adds

I hope I can get some help here. Today I started getting add pop-ups on my Xiaomi MI5 that's 3 days old. I installed a lot of applications, but they have all been previously installed on my HTC Desire 500 and my Nexus 7 and I never had any issues. The adds pop up after I unlock the screen, sometimes it's just a Home screen that's not responding (until I hit the Back button), sometimes it's a full add. Adds vary a lot and change from Pokemon training spam to Anti-spyware apps. On some adds it said it's sponsored by "StartApp". On one add there was an information button, so I got some message from "com.aqplay.mediation" about permission settings (nothing really relevant, couldn't uncheck anything anyways).
After scanning the phone with Avast, MBAM and Addons Detector, I got nothing. I also went through a crapload of forums looking for answers, tried to uninstall some apps that I installed today, but nothing helped.
In the end I noticed that the built-in application "File Manager" keeps ending up in my Recent Applications list, even though I never opened it. So I tried to stop and uninstall it, but with no luck. There is a process that looks suspicious so I would like to ask anyone to check if they have the same process on their device.
Under Settings - Installed apps - Running - File Manager there is a Service (second from the top) called "zdrhhriggx". Can anyone verify they have the same Service running?
Since it's a built in app, I can't Disable or Uninstall File Manager to be 100% sure, but so far I have found a workaround.
In the Security application I went to Data Usage settings - Data usage stats - System apps - File Manager and I disabled it's Mobile and Background data access. I am unable to turn off the WLAN setting for it though. But so far, no adds in the last 30mins.
If anyone has a good permanent solution to this problem (I know I can do a factory reset, but let's make that the last option) I'd be forever grateful.
Additional info:
Android version: 6.0 MRA58K

Fake ROM
I believe you are correct, stupid of me not to check the ROM version. Thank you very much.
You are using Vendor Rom maybe . Unlock your bootloader and flash Official Rom . If you are using root . Install adaway to make some ads dissapear .
Same issue with ads and massive wlan battery drain (vendor rom from xiaomi.eu). unlocked it, flash the official and worked like a charm.

Yup, same here with the WLAN battery drain. But the adds stopped for some reason the last 2 days. I'm planning on flashing it, just not sure which procedure to follow. Can you please tell me if you had to Unlock the device through the MIUI website request?
I've found this thread to be helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/xiaomi-eu-7-8-13-0-maacndb-t3412638
I'm just not clear on the difference between flashing with the fastboot update (MIUI flashing tool) or using Mi PC Suite with Full ROM?
Would you be so kind as to provide more precise steps on what you did to unlock and flash it?

I don't see the 7.8.13.0 version on xiaomi.eu, did you ever install that one on any device?

Use the fastboot method as described on the MIUI website, that will work.

hence i downloaded the Global ROM from Miui for 5s - 8.0.3.0 MAGMIDI "normally". now while trying this, it says "i am updating to a older version & all data will be lost". is it possible to really have a newer version on phone which isnt there in MIUI website?
or something is wrong?

Since we are assuming you are on a fake ROM with ads, I'd certainly flash the official ROM, no matter what the fake one says.

Thank you Guojaun for your timely help.
i successfully flashed to GLOBAL ROM.
while i was doing this, there was no folder called "Downloaded_rom" for the ROM to put, i created a folder & put the ROM there. then flashing will go through normally. no need of Fastboot or anything.
Now no ads or any sort of issues

I'm about to "update" my phone, and I'm just wondering if I need to wipe my phone data first, or everything will be wipe out on this process?

V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM Beta or Stable?

Hi all, I see there is an update listed on this page link V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM.
Can someone confirm if this has been released as stable already? And if you received it, how is this an improvement over V12.0.1? I am holding on to V11 as I heard V12s initial release was not that well polished and strains the battery.
Thanks!
it's only security update for August

- I have received this OTA update and it's stable.
- Everything work's more or less stable, at least I didn't find any issue until now.
- What I have noticed is that Weather app is replaced with G version in his name and now one can update this app manually without previous notorious "authorisation" issue.
- Mi Global Browser is still there and still can't be uninstalled ( Failed [-1000] error in adb shell during uninstall).
- In Indian Forbes site I have seen that they will release update which will allow uninstalling MiBrowser and few other apps because Indian government have banned all of these apps.
- Battery life is a little better from previous ROM.
- There is no more stuttering in Chrome browser.
- That's my humble experience so far.
Thanks @Jehonan I think I may give it a shot then.
Cannot flash the update
I am on miui_CEPHEUSEEAGlobal_V12.0.1.0.QFAEUXM.
I did not get the OTA yet and my battery life is very poor so I am eager to upgrade, I tried to update manually from the updater to either files:
- miui_CEPHEUSEEAGlobal_V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM
- miui-blockota-cepheus_eea_global-V12.0.1.0.QFAEUXM-V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM
but I always get the "Sorry, flash to this stable version is not allowed".
Any ideas what is the problem?

Which update procedure did You follow?
Did You make folder on root of the internal drive, copied appropriate downloaded ROM inside this folder and start upgrade from there?
I went to the Rom version in settings. Cliqued on the 3 dots. Select rom to install. Then tried to import the files from download, root, dowloaded_roms folders. Same result: "flash to this stable version is not allowed".
With the same procedure I am able te reflash miui_CEPHEUSEEAGlobal_V12.0.1.0.QFAEUXM as much as I want. But no way to upgrade.
I also tried from recovery. But there is no option to flash update.zip.

Did You tried with OTA version of this update?
Same procedure, in root of the drive in downloaded_rom folder copy OTA update and start update from there.
Here is a link to ROM's.
P.S.
I believe that You must first go with OTA version of the firmware because of the downloaded ROM decrypting procedure. After that You can go with recovery type of ROM (full ROM upgrade).
Yes, I tried the update file as well.
Both files give the same error ("Sorry, flash to this stable version is not allowed"):
- miui_CEPHEUSEEAGlobal_V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM_44dcb66933_10.0.zip
- miui-blockota-cepheus_eea_global-V12.0.1.0.QFAEUXM-V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM-789914bb83-10.0.zip
I am able to flash V12.0.1 from the same site so I am sure to be on the right ROM:
- miui_CEPHEUSEEAGlobal_V12.0.1.0.QFAEUXM_4d28c84f58_10.0
Something else is preventing the upgrade.
Well, I found out that I needed to change the region settings from France to Belgium... now it updates.
How stupid!
Hi all, I'm having a strange behaviour after the update: the quick charge ( using a wireless charger ) isn't working anymore.
Does anyone have the same issue?
