Hi,
I am interested in FM radio experimentation on the Galaxy S. for that, I have followed the CM7 GB team hacksung build instructions and the build has gone thru fine. I have obtained an update.zip file.
Is this all I need for a samsung galaxy S?
I find this quite different as I am mostly an HTC phone developer and the mechanisms of flashing etc seem very different here.

any ideas? I really dont want to brick my phone by trying out these builds without proper information.

Hey guys, been out of the loop for a while as I've been settled on JPY for a few weeks now. However, I saw a friend flash his Desire today with Oxygen, a gingerbread-based AOSP ROM. All the SGS ROMs I can find so far are based on the stock Samsung firmware - is there any work being done on a full AOSP ROM like Oxygen or Cyanogen? I can't find any details about this anywhere.
I am very curious about this question. Because if answer is simply no, it's time to sell Galaxy S. Gingerbread will be the last update from Samsung and AOSP could be the future of this phone then CM7 for SGS seems to have big problems and it's the only AOSP ROM for SGS which I'm aware of...
What big problems?
I'm using CM7 for a month right now and it's pretty stable if i can say. Yes, it lacks some features and some bugs are not fixed yet (theres a workaround tho), but if you follow it's thread the progress they make are great. They're already into mainline, so probably it will reach RC status in a month/maybe less, who knows.
After the devs are done, i think there will be a custom ROM based on CM7/AOSP.

CM7 is getting there. And with Gingerbread coming out, that should make things easier for the dev.
Yes, but with no source then there is nothing big. GB leak, only helped them with "less" important stuff (FM radio, etc.)

So, If I were to flash CyanogenMod 7 using the method for the I9000 from http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/15275-gt-i9000b-cyanogenmod-7-we-love-bugs-version-20110222/
Will that work for the Captivate? I understand a few issues will be present, but I assume I would follow these considering theres no specific instructions for the Captivate. I know people are working on CyanogenMod 7 based on these builds for the Captivate, I'm just lost on where I would go for instructions
I am not a noob, but we all have those noobish qualities in us :3
ok, well I do own an EVO (Spint) that has been rooted and numerous mod's installed and feel comfortable around it (currently running c7 and loving it).
Now I have a new Galaxy S (7 inch) and looking to test some ROM's and wanted to confirm a few basic things b4 I jump in. It came with 2.2 and I am hearing about 2.3, even 3 on it, but is 3 around yet? Having the evo, the market has more items, launchers, etc. which I am assuming is due to the carrier/vendor so I am hoping some new mod's will make it more customizable!
It is rooted (used z4 from my readings, hope that was OK), have the normal stuff installed, but can I simply ROM manager full backup, then d/l some ROM's and play? Upon installing ClockWorkMod recovery it asked to confirm a phone model;
Galaxy S i9000 and Galaxy S i9000 (MTD). Now it's not a phone, there is no carrier, etc. so I am not sure what to select on that.
Lastly is similar to the above, but is the process of flashing, restoring, etc. the same as on the phone? I mean since it's so new, I am a bit concerned with bricking the thing, but since it's not a phone I don't think I need to worry as much.
Thanks to all replies as usual.
All your questions will be answered with a quick visit to the Dev forum. Each thread has a mini/full installation guide on the 1st post
Galaxy Tab came with 2.2 onboard...and if you ever register at Samsung's site, it is listed under smartphones...lot of customization options exist for the tab...
Overcome rom is the best rom out there for the GSM Tab...both Froyo and GB roms are there...GB still in beta though...Overcome comes with its own CWM...it also comes with detailed flashing instructions so no worries...
Z4root is fine...have that installed and it works as good as anything else...
Don't think rom manager has the correct Rom for this...the tab is P1000 or other variants and the ones you mentioned looks to be for the Galaxy S phones...

I did continue my reading from last night and saw overcome seems to be the 'weapon of choice'.
I will start simple and register, then start to look at the flashing process and how it differs from the EVO regarding full backup (just in case), mod changes etc.
Looking forward to this new route to go down.
Thanks.
How to change my androi version to Honeycomd on my Tab 7.0
please help
please help
please help
1. Make a backup, because they get lost during the process.
2. Root your Tab -> google for "howto root galaxy tab" - You have to use Odin and
some other files, in most of them you find links to them.
3. Find a custom rom -> TheOvercome for example. They have an own website
with a good guide and all needed files.
Important is which galaxy tab you have. Is it a GSM or a CDMA?
I hope i could help you a little, if you need some links send me a PM.
TheOvercome recommended, too

I made very good experience using theOvercome as base to start from - They have a really good step by step description.
But why bothering with Honeycomb at all, now that Ice Cream Sandwich is just about to get alive?.... Seems like wasted effort to me - just my opinion
OP, I would definitely hold back on that change. Upgrade to Overcome (or some other 2.3 ROM) by all means, but I wouldn't suggest installing Honeycomb. The HC Alpha build is really not that stable and not very complete, whereas the newer source-code powered ICS builds are looking promising.
In this instance, I would suggest patience would be a virtue and to wait until a reliable ICS build lands.
I have the Overcome rom installed and love it. Its definitely not android 3.0 but it runs smoother then any HC ports. I'd update to one of the faster 2.3 roms then wait for ICS which will (hopefully) have more support.
Will CyanogenMod roms for the Galaxy Mini work with the Dart (t499)?
No. But in madteam forums there's a cyanogenmod development going on for the dart

CWM is fixed and working on this phone.
CyanogenMod 7.1 is mostly working, there is still a delay in the screen turning on with an incoming call, and the buttons at the bottom don't light up. But so far it is looking pretty good.
Also if you are planing on doing the network/sim unlock, it requires the original rom, so you might want to do that before switching to CM7.
Unfortunately the forums are down right now, but see this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19936092&postcount=100
I am thinking about buying a dart soon and I want to make sure I got this all right. In order to flash CWM you need to flash the recovery madteam has made because it cannot be flashed through ROM manager? ALso after having CWM on the Dart, does a specific version of CM7 have to be flashed that was specifically made for the dart or can any Galaxy Mini rom be used?
continue developing
ive noticed that development seems to have dragged to a halt on the t499 and i was wondering if someone would be interested in making a project out of this, perhaps continue developing on the cm7 that has already be started, or the cm9 that the thread has been closed on, im not too experienced in development on android but id be willing to help any way possible
