I saw that woot had the sprint galaxy tab for 260 and then i also saw that on craigslist people were advertising that they can flash the sprint tab to work on the boost mobile prepaid unlimited data plan which is around $10 a month. Is this legit? How is that done? I have tried searching for info but have come up empty. Does anyone have any experience with this?
i would like to know how
how can this be done?
just ordered one (yesterday)
I just ordered one of these spring galaxy tabs flashed to boost mobile yesterday. New (Sprint overstock, without original packaging), rooted, flashed, a month of internet paid for, + car charger, around $400.
The tab will be on the prepaid pay-as-you-go plan, meaning that everyday that I connect to 3G 35cents are deducted from my account. Otherwise, I can use WIFI without paying for the day.
I'll let you know how it goes when I get it (hopefully by Fri/Sat)!
I've heard the same thing, but that the Sprint version could be flashed to Cricket Wireless. Including actually taking calls. Has anyone had experience with this?
So it looks like you have to have the MSL for the device and then you have to get the MSID DEC value imported into the carrier's database (Cricket or Boost). Then you have to change some values on the device itself through some hidden menus. You also have to already have an account with the service provider. There's some companies in FL and CA that will do this for $100. It shouldn't be that expensive IMO, but for $11/month for 3G service it's hard to not pay for it.
Anyone know of how to actually do it? I have vzw tab and for 11 bucks a month Id gladly perform this.
I found a service out of Florida that will do it, but they say you have to send the Tab in for them to do it.
If you want to get it done shoot me a pm. I know some1 that knows some1
shoot me a pm
PM was shot.
So if i'm reading this right.. one could technically go get a free (or super cheap) boost mobile phone for the unlimted monthly data plan, then call em and give em the meid/msl and have the sprint tab work? I'd be curious to know what else is involved..
I'm curious about this too. I just got my Tab tonight & I was shocked at the data plans. I signed up for the 3 gig but I just know it's not gonna be enough. Hopefully someone can figure out exactly how to do this soon.
I actually have a galaxy tab thaf has been flashed to boost. Its not bad. The 3g is very usable but I suspect the speed is being cap'd. I travel back and forth between nyc and central nj and get speed test results of .2-.5 but I don't have or know anyone with a sprint phone to test it against.

As an aside, the guy mentioned (boostursprint) is selling the software on ebay to do it yourself.
So Im sick of atts bulls***. There speeds are god aweful. I grabbed a friends phone who is on verizon and by the time I just found a you tube video, his phone was done sshowing the video. Its disgraceful. On top of it I pay 15$ for the 200mb plan and about 50% of them are wasted because I have to rreload pages to make sure that the phone is getting somewhere. Im 17 gonna be 18 and we have a family plan. I want tto switch to verizon but how do I do it? and can I please keep this phone? I love it, but the service just sucks.

No you cannot use a captivate on verizon. It just won't happen. Read up on the differences between cdma and gsm

Just sign up with verizon and get a new phone....Captivate is GSM phone....Verizon uses CDMA technology....but Verizon has Samsung Galaxy s variant named Fascinate...Its basically same phone with very minor difference....but verizon got very good new phones as well like Droid Charge....
Does it matter if im a minor though?

You have to be at least 18 in the us to sign up for a plan by yourself. Since your so young and probably don't have any credit history yet you'll probably have to put down a deposit of at least $150.

You can also try getting a microcell. Are you having problems everywhere or just a home? Howard Forums has a lot of info on how to get a microcell or how the change service.
The only other (national) carrier AT&T phones will work on is T-Mobile. And then you have to look into 3g bands.
Looks like at least initially this isn't available in the US. Recommendations for where to buy that the shipping and handling isn't as much as the device proper?

Last I read AT&T in the US would be carrying the device. Nevertheless it should be shipping out today (12th Nov) from UK online retailers, popular ones include:
http://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-camera
http://www.handtec.co.uk/search.php...ra 8gb&xPriceFrom=0&xPriceTo=0&xSort=&xPage=2
to name a couple.
The price relevant to you is the one excluding VAT. Good luck! I'm looking forward to seeing some sample pictures and videos before making the jump!
You can buy it now in at&t retail stores in USA. I bought mine already. It awesome. Sample pics and vids in the general section.

Did they force you to get a data plan, or were you able to buy it by itself? Website is not at all clear on that point, and I don't trust the stores to know the policy, so figure best to go in with an example or two
Also, did you give any thought to a Nokia 920? It seems to me the Galaxy Camera is a camera with some phone functionality, and the 920 s a phone with some camera functionality. But not clear from images I've seen posted that either is significantly better than the other in image quaity, which is making it hard to jump one way or the other.
No I didn't need a data plan I live in Mexico, so I can't have a US data plan. The lady at the store at first didn't know they even had the camera there, because it was the day when it came out. But once she saw the camera, she knew I could buy it without a plan.
There are some people saying that they've been told at stores that you do need a plan, but as far as I know you don't. We talking to a manager or something can help.

I found one AT&T store that wanted to force me to have a data plan, but after a new store got some in stock, I tried them, and after going into a huddle for 20 minutes or so they decided I could buy one without the data plan.
I did wonder about getting one with a data plan then doing early termination of the plan (which the AT&T web site says you can do at no charge if it is within 14 days, but fortunately I didn't have to try that .

At least the EBay one is only $30 more than AT&T. The Amazon one is almost $200 more
Think I'll give AT&T a try first given that's the case. I don't need unlocked since I will be using with my MiFi in WiFi only anyway.
Not sure if this should go here or not.. But I've been watching the One since it was announced.
And I'm currently on the old $30/month plan from Tmo with an HTC Amaze..
Unfortunately I to get the one from Tmo the require $379 down which is a lot of money at once and will also up my bill to $70
But I also have the option to get one someones Sprint plan and get a One for $99...
But just looking thought the forum, its looking like the GSM One is getting better Dev support
Along with Google ports.
An another possible problem that comes to mind... is CDMA..
I was on sprint awhile ago and Had a HTC Hero and the battery drain was HORRIBLE compared to the my Magic. Not sure if that is still an issue with the new LTE stuff...
But yeah, my real question is, should I go for the Sprint One or hold out a bit and get the Tmo One?

To my knowledge, you're not going to have a significant battery difference between CDMA and GSM. Updates will almost always be slower for us in the Sprint world because GSM variants tend to be more common worldwide, but the devs here work plenty hard. I'd check the forum though yourself to see if there're any ROMs you actually like the look of instead of taking someone else's word on how "good" dev is.
Price-wise, you might be better off going prepaid on T-Mobile, but then you'd need an unlocked GSM One, and that's dicey stuff.
Tmo is the way to go imho. I thought about getting the one when I got my nexus....it's about the only phone I'd consider other than my nexus. I chose the nexus because of the bang for your buck factor and dev support. I'm happy with my choice but I still love the one! Really a beautiful phone, with the guts to match....good luck

Yeah, go Tmo. Once you go CDMA, you shall never escape...
T mobile if you can afford it.
You can fully convert it to GPe or dev unlocked edition. It gets more support.
I read somewhere that only Sprint has working Google Wallet, though.
Coverage wise, it depends. Tmo is fantastic here (at least, the HSPA was), but Sprint doesn't even cover some of the places it says has "Good/better 3g".
As someone above said, you should check out the prepaid plans. It might be cheaper/better in the long run if you buy unlocked and just put in a prepaid card. Even if you will go over the data/minutes, the overages may still be cheaper than a contract.
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans Check out the $30 one at the bottom. Only 100 mins, but 5GB data.

Personally I'm staying on Sprint because they are making moves to make a triband network, as opposed to tmo which is a single band network. But at the moment Sprint is just terrible.

Tmo base everything off of your credit check when they run it. For example, my cousin was told he he had to put down $500 and I was told $100.
However I chooses to come back to Sprint because I think they have good things coming ahead and plus Tmo service here where I live is little to nonexistent

I'm on the $30 plan right now. But to finance a phone for me its 3xx down and sixty something a month.
And those 100 minutes burn up FAST.
In the long run sprint is actually going to be cheaper because I'm getting on an existing plan for 20-30 a month for unlimited everything.
But I'm still not sure I want to go CDMA...
I live in Columbus so coverage for both sprint and tmo is great..

After looking at that link above I just realized one of the leaked pictures was actually from Malaysia.
Now I wonder if it'll be released in my country (Indonesia) as well. I may be hoping but I'm not hoping much at all. Indonesia is like one of the least "Google-cared" country. We get new devices so late it's not even new anymore.
Then again it might be our retail shops / carriers that just went full retard and think "Meh, who the hell buys Nexus in this country anyway? Why should we rush to get this phone in?"
Damn it
I might get one from Singapore if it was released there, though. Should there be any problems warranty is much easier to process (I fly back and forth every few months).
I asked singtel on their fb page. Their response:
Dear Jeremy, thank you for your interest. Do keep a look-out! Please be assured that we will keep you informed once we have an update. Thanks
"do keep a look out" sounds rather promising, but I'm only cautiously optimistic

It sounds like a rather generic response to me...
But I'm not gonna buy w contract though. Seems like I'm the only one amongst my friends w 12gb data cap.. And I'm not gonna give that away. Starhub 3g is fast enough
If its released in Malaysia then all the more better. Just a drive/ride across 2nd link or causeway

I am also in SG. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a 12GB contract on LTE. Singapore telcoms just followed suit with the USA and went for the massive cash grab known as metered billing.
I think that it's wrong to go from 12GB to 2GB of data while keeping the price the same. The price per month should have been lowered according to the data offered.
You have to admit though we are still paying a lot less than people in the USA. (http://www.androidcentral.com/us-mobile-data-prices-among-most-expensive-world)
My plan:
120 (outgoing mins)
600 SMS
2GB data
$39SGD (31.40 USD) per month
I have a friend that lives in the UK. I will be getting him to order me a white 32GB so that I can take advantage of LTE.
