[Q] Any Captivate Users Flash Official XWJVB? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I just have a question regarding the latest release for the i9000 of the "Final/Official" Gingerbread for the i9000 XWJVB located in this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011901
I already know that orientation and button mapping will be wrong but button mapping can be fixed and orientation will eventually be fixed by the future Captivate kernels that will be made soon.
I am just wondering for curiosity and wondering if it is possible and or the dangers of flashing the i9000 JVB onto the Captivate.
Finally if you HAVE flashed any of the official i9000 Gingerbreads which one (s) did you flash?
W/ Bootloaders??
or W/O bootloaders?
Thanks in advance.

Reoriented kernel of the froyo version?

Hi everyone.
I was wondering if is possible to get a Reoriented kernel for the froyo version? I want to install the i9000 froyo ROM and want to be able to use the power button in stock recovery + voodoo + backlight notification. I hope I don't ask too much
Actually I have it already installed with froyo kernel and I must say that is considerably faster than AT&Ts ROM.

The only source code we have is for Ecalir. Whenever Samsung decides to drop Froyo source, which will more than likely be after the final release, we will see what we can do with it.

I am very interested in this.
I dont trust any firmware released by att or betas of att fw.

Want to flash to Continuum 5.4.1 (Coming from stock 2.1 and 3 button fix)

Hey guys,
I havent flashed in awhile and I'm a bit confused on what I'm supposed to do coming from 2.1 stock with 3 button fix.
I want to flash Continuum 5.4.1 but it seems like the only way to do that is to flash to stock 2.1 without the 3 button fix. I'm kind of wary of that since I dont have a jig. Am I missing something? Or is this the only way - flashing to stock 2.1 with no 3 button fix and then flashing Continuum 5.4.1
No one?
Read the op on the rom thread and that should work just fine. Posting this in that thread will get you more responses also.

[Q] IS IT SAFE TO FLASH BACK TO OVERCOME 1.6.x AFTER FLASHING OVERCOME 2.0 BETA2???

hi guys...
i just got some question here and i hope anyone can help me please...
so i just update my firmware a couple of days ago to overcome 2.0 BETA2 (GINGERBREAD BASE) by alterbridge and i found out that some of my favorite features and apps in froyo doesn't work here.... so i wanted to flash back to overcome 1.6.X and just wait for more stable overcome 2.0 probably with some OC/UV kernel...
so here's the problem.... out of curiosity i just run the bootloader patch in my tab and found out that i now have a signed bootloader(PBL and SBL)..
question.... do i need to patch my tab to have unsigned bootloader to be able to flash back to overcome 1.6.X??? or is it still safe for me to flash back directly to aovercome 1.6.x without patching the bootloader??? thanks in advanced to those who will respond to this inquiry of mine..........

Flashing roms?

This is probably a noob question but I have a captivate using gt i9000 bootloaders, question is since im running these bootloaders would I then be able to use gt i9000 roms on my captivate? Im currently running mosaic on gingerbread.

No, because of hardware differences. The i9000 has a hardware button which the captibate does not, and other differences.

actually, all that needs to be done is to swap kernels in the rom with a reoriented I9000 kernel for the captivate the kernel is the zImage contained in the updates folder of the rom. Then go to xcal's thread and get the home button fix (or go into your favorite I9000 port and copy over everything in /system/lib/egl deleting overwriting what was there)
Biggity Bam! I9000 rom on a cappy.
There well be references to a forward facing camera in some apps (option for video call in phone.apk for example) that obviously won't work due to the captivate not having one.
BTW this is a question those get posted in q&a not in general. please post in the appropriate subforums in the future.

Help flashing i9000 coming from a captivate

Hey all, in a bit of a time crunch. I have a friend coming over tonight with an i9000 and I'm going to help him flash a custom rom as he's disliking stock 2.x
I have just about every tool/rom/kernel/odin package/etc. imaginable downloaded for the captivate but I need to know what I can use on the i9000.
Here is what I need from you guys...
- A link to GB bootloaders (odin flashable) for the i9000
- A recommendation for a good clean & stable 2.3 ROM (he won't want 4.0 just yet)
- A link to an odin flashable kernel with the latest CWM
- i9000 windows drivers unless the captivate ones I already installed will work
I know the captivate and i9000 are super similar but I'm pretty sure you cant flash an i9000 with captivate ROM's even if they are i9000 based. The only thing I'm actually concerned about is flashing the proper bootloaders. After that its smooth sailing.
Thanks all in advance!
hey man,
the best way to do this is to flash the leaked jvu through odin found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431596
You can find odin and 512 pit file for i9000 at www.samfirmware.com you can also find device drivers there too.
the leaked jvu is a pretty good rom for your friend, and from there you can flash any rom found in the i9000 development section.
Man try this link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 or http://androidadvices.com/info/samsung/
