is there a way to remove all apps with out flashing to a clean rom?
Use root explorer and delete your /data/app folder. Then, go into /system/app and delete any apps (.apk files) that you don't want, but be careful in /system/app because alot of those .apk's in there are necessary for Android to work at all. Delete only what you really need to remove from there.
Why do you want to remove all your apps anrways?

Sadly I also newbie here but I do understand the feeling to get rid of unneccesary apps. Got myself a SE ARC recently and so had converted my old HTC HD2 to an Android rom. I love my new SE Arc but hated that stupid foursquare apps that drain tons of resources and battery as well as my data plan. Tried to uninstall it but to no avail. It can be irritating as well as frustrating. And if you install all the nice juicy apps that you love from the market, together with the existing apps, there hardly much resouces left. And the battery drained even faster. sad case really....

I've been switching back and forth in recovery between Modaco's desire rom and CM. Recently I downloaded a couple beta's on the desire rom, which are all now closed, that I'm trying to get back on my CM rom. Is there a way to pull the .apk out of the Desire rom so I can use it with my CM? (Or with froyo or the new desire builds when they come out).
Thanks
Use Titanium Backup. Available for free in the market
Or you could use adb and pull the apks for /system/app or /data/app depending on where it was installed... even if you have app2sd, pull from /data/app will work since it is symlinked...
Code:
adb pull /system/app .
adb pull /data/app .
Most desire apks are not compatible with CM or any other non-sense ui roms.
Search a little and you'll know what i mean

If you read the first post, OP wasn't talking about desire app apk, but rather some 3rd party beta apps apks...
Slighty OT.
When I download & install an app from the market, where does its apk get stored on my Nexus running OS2.1? I went looking but could only find the inbuilt apps in the /system/app folder. I have a couple of apps that I would like to copy to my SD card with ASTRO prior for backup purposes. Thanks.

Depending on the install type specified... the app would either install as a normatl app or a protected app...
Normal apps are stored in /data/app, protected in /data/app-private

Maybe astro can't view the list of files there... I can't list the files there in the terminal application without getting su privileges... use adb pull to get the files...
Hi, I just rooted my SG i9000 with odin.
So now I like to do stuff in my system folder (removing and replacing swype)
However, I can't seem to get in there.
This fix, by chainfire, should also have installed busybox, but I can't find this anywhere....it did install 'superuser'....with which I can't seem to do a lot.
So the question is, how can I see and edit stuff in the system folder?
Do I need to install some kinnd of app for this?
Yup u need an app. Download root explorer. Thats all u need.

I wouldn't recommend messing around in /sys if you don't know what you're doing.. If you want to just uninstall some stuff like bloatware that came with phone, try downloading titanium backup, you can uninstall system apps from there.
Also do verify before uninstalling that they're not critical
Im currently using froyo by laszlo... and it has its own default system apps...
i want to replace it with some off my own prefer things...
to be direct...
i want to replace the launcher contacts dialer and messaging apps...
i want it to have go launcher, go contacts, go dialer, go messaging
would it be just like unzipping then remove the apps i dont want, put in the apps that i want sign the apks, then zip and sign?
1. im pretty sure you can just put the apk's in system/app folder... but since they're apps from market they might need to go into data/app folder.. not sure
2. you dont need to sign the apk's if your signing the rom.zip...
I would suggest just installing the apps you want and pretending the others aren't there.
Removing important system apps can break stuff pretty badly. There is a page on the cyanogenmod wiki about what can and can't be removed. Read that then remove what you want. Also since the apps you want are market apps I would recommend installing them from there so you don't have to redo everything every time one of them updates
this is true^^^
Good day, friends.
First of all, sorry for my poor English, i`ll try to speak shortly.
I have Xperia T LT30p running on stock f/w 7.0.A.1.303, bootloader is factory locked, rooted with this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460) method.
I deleted some apps from SYSTEM/APP folder throug ROOT EXPLORER, not so much, i deleted Chrome, asian keyboards, power-saving mode and something else, APKs deleted successfully, they are no longer existing in SYSTEM/APP folder, but to my surprise the programs that i deleted are still in the system, they are still on phone, i see them in general menu, they are not deleted at all, and they are running and successfully workable! Maybe you can help me, how can i completely delete the apps that i don`t need ? Only the asian keyboards are deleted, i can`t choose it in text input.
Thank you.
Download titanium backup from the market and use that to delete system apps on a rooted phone

Using titanium backup is the normal way I do it...all I can imagine is that you are deleting the apk but if it is already installed it may have some other files linked elsewhere...
Also, make sure you have the system/app folder as R/W not R/O.

SYSTEM/APP is on r/w, of course.
This is strange, because APKs are deleted, 100%, and only the links can`t make the program works propertly, but they are working!
But anyway, i`ll try to do like you said.

If I remember correctly, there is another folder in system somewhere ( I think on x10 it was system/user/app/customization) where the system will install user apps from, if they have not been deleted from here too they will be reinstalled! Try this: pick one of they apps you could not get rid of and use root explorer to "search" for the apk name, that will show you the locations.
I am quite sure once you have deleted the one in customization it will not come back once uninstalled.
Edit: system/etc/customisation

To uninstall them you need to be rooted and have a file manager like as file manager.
Otherwise you can disable them in app settings.
Out of curiosity, I see you've been a member since 2008 and have well over a thousand posts so your not a "noob." Yet, uninstalling system apps is a pretty basic question... Is this your first Android phone?
No its not, I usually run custom ROMs. And when I install them usually there are no system apps like this. This is honestly the first phone that I have been damn near 100% happy with stock. Its weird haha
yeha I just went thru and deleted the APKs using RootExplorer.

I'm finding myself in the same situation, not really used to stock but now liking it enough to stick with it!
Just to clarify for the less forward-thinking among us, if you're rooted but on stock android and don't want to re-flash everything should you decide you want those deleted system apps back, it's better to rename them (for instance change crappyapp.apk to crappyapp.apk.bak) than to delete them, so you can just remove the .bak and restore the app instead of having to hunt down the .apk and re-install.
Or just freeze it in Titanium Backup, which is the easiest way. No reason to NOT have Ti Backup installed in my opinion...
