HTC started this whole mess in reality.. They paid Microsoft their "protection" money and now Microsoft has validated their whole bull**** argument using it and continue to accelerate their attack on Google from all directions but not at Google directly. Lame.

well, when the best MS can put out is Windows Phone 7 (Metro UI ... **PUKE**), its no wonder they have to sue the competition out of business...

3G Apple I-phone to use WM???

Written by Nick Farrell
Secret deals
Fruit themed toymaker Apple has decided to reject its own operating system on the iPhone in favor of Windows Mobile OS.
According to a company insider the change is needed because it was impossible to get the next generation 3G phones to operate under existing OSX guidelines. Although Apple is not happy with the change our insider said they have worked with Microsoft to develop an interface that looks identical and there was a belief that users would be none the wiser.
The Windows OS is proving more reliable than OSX, which has been a target for hackers ever since Apple tried to lock the iPhone into exclusive deals. A source within Microsoft said that the two companies had so much in common that it was logical that they should work together on such a flagship product.

Hmmm...You think the new Iphone will have any new toys for us? Fact or Fiction?
Cant belive it
WOW, this would be great, if this does happen, it would be the only thing made by apple that i would actually consider buying. But i wont belive it until i see it at my local AT&T store.
Another win for Microsoft.
Heh, isn't it a little late for April 1st "news" stories?
You did read the date that was posted, right?
Clearly it's a fact, and clearly this is a Kaiser issue
No way this would ever happen, that just sounds so funny.

Yeah, kind like the April First announcement of WM6.1 being released from MS to OEM & carriers. That was some joke too, like that would ever happen, huh?
Ohhh, wait it did!
Anyway, I don't think it's true, but I also don't think you can discount things simply because they were posted on April 1.
The article was posted at 1438, so can't be an April Fool as they don't count after 1200.
If it was a joke made after 1200, the the fool is the article's writer.
I have my doubts, but it would make me feel less "dirty" to own one if it was in fact M$ powered.
Somehow I just don't think that Apple would ever allow one of their products to run something Bill Gates produced. But hey, who knows, crazier things have happened. People keep bricking their phones even with all of the information readily available!!!!
Not a chance.

I for one fully agree with you, steve and bill have been rivals for a long time, even if it ran win mo, i still would never buy it do to the fact its a apple device and it is typical that any software apple produces the useability still makes me feel like i don't own it apple does.

Yes, but that was believable due to Microsoft announcing a 0.1 version upgrade to an existing product line.
Apple willingly running WinMob instead of OSXMobile on the iPhone would not happen due to all their commentary about how OSX is so much better than Windows & how only the "cool" people use Apple products. If they put WinMob on the iPhone, it's like saying OSX really isn't the hottest sh*t since cinnamon toast....
Besides, I don't give a sh*t either way since it still won't have a hardware keyboard making it the noGood.
apple has used other MS products in its machines like MS office. BUt i doubt they would use a MS o/s in a flagship product like the iphone.
but we did see how palm originally had their phones with the palm o/s, but then offered a windows mobile version of the same phones too. to capture a good part of the market.
maybe apple may make a wm version to try and capture the windows mobile community. but due to the crazy rivals, its unlikely, but not impossible. windows mobile users out number iphone users. so why not make an iphone with wm o/s to get those users? it's not such a crazy idea. maybe when it comes down to it, it's about principles, would apple want to put its principles on the line to get those WM users.

Last time I checked Office 2008 was not an OPERATING SYSTEM. In other words, have you ever seen an Mac running XP or a HP or whatever running Apple OS? Wow, I thought everyone knew that software could cross the platform battle line.

I can't believe this thread exists. The clearly spoofed article wasn't funny or believable on April 1st, and its even less three weeks later.
Yeah I agree,
This is never going to happen. Apple put way too much time and money into their own OS why would they ever trash it and go with something M$ made.......
Not real why was this ever made into a thread.

Can Apple's MobileMe work with Pocket PC?

It works with PCs so I, with no programming knowledge whatsoever, believe there has to be a way to get it to work with our Kaisers.
Is it possible?
most likely it will not be possible.
Why would you want it anyway? There are free exchange services out there that essentially do the same thing.
i like working with large, reputable companies when it comes to my personal data. but i'll look into these free exchange services.

What forums are you reading? Large yes, reputable?
Have you read the Apple f**ked me forums lately?
Just loaded the latest upgrade to Leopard, now my computer freezes 20 times a day. Why do non-Apple people assume Apple knows what they are doing? Because they have great P.R. people?
Why even discuss this when it's not even out yet.

Better idea, why not go off other peoples recommendations? For instance, im an avid fan of live.mail2web.com its perfect for personal exchange. and its FREE .... im sure that steve HANDjobs is going to charge you a fee for their service.
Mobile Me for our Kaiser (possilby)
I just finished chatting with an apple rep. I told her that I use a windows mobile pocket pc while my wife uses the I phone...can we both use the features of mobile me on our devices. The reply was Yes.
Of couse as Shogun has stated it will cost. $149.00 for a family service or $99.00 for an individual license.
apple is billing this service as "exchange for the rest of us" so i would imagine that is EXACTLY what they are using, is microsoft exchange, but they are hiding some of the settings from the users so it appears to be some magical new technology that apple "developed"
if we can get a hold of the settings, i would imagine that punching them into activesync would work just fine. besides, how else do we get it to work with outlook on our pc's? SETTINGS! so i'm sure we'll find a way to make it work.
please laugh with me...

Unfortunately, mail2web free service uses Exchange 2003 wich pushes only text mail. Their Exchange 2007 service, comptatible with html is $14.99 per month then $179.88 per year. Apple's MobileMe will "only" be $99 per year... So ???

so what can it be?
an article about how they want money out of google's cash machine cuz android is so great and they think because it runs the same that android IS java, so they have a right to it.
I personally think worst case, google pays oracle a boatload and continues on with whatever they want.

This is nothing to worry about, companies sue other companies ALL the time.
Apple are currently suing lots of other people over IP.
In fact I think you'll find Oracle are probably being sued by someone over something!
As you say worse case scenario Google pay Oracle money
Saw this story earlier on my usa today app lol. Either this will turn into a big story, or it'll disappear quickly. It's anyone's guess. Google may fight Oracle, because personally I feel Google has a legit argument/defense. And I also feel Oracle is just pulling bs for money/attention and have no grounds for this lawsuit. We'll see tho...

I think it is time for big dady Microsoft to give something back.

HD2 is the best phone in the World at the moment.
No it does not have the best 15154 billion collor screen.
No it does not have 6 cores CPU.
No it does not have 1080p recording or 12MP camera.
No it does not have al sorts of prety much "paper only" functions.
What it does have is a soul, inspired by great programmers, developers, a lot of sleepless nights, and a lot of sweat.
What does that mean? Well, HD2 users pretty much kept WINDOWS MOBILE a live. Development, upgrading, enabling it run android, etc. What did we get back? Void warranties, bricked phones, etc. No, nobody from Microsoft said: Hey guys, that is pretty darn cool, keep it up, we are learning from you. No, they said: Well, srew that, we are going to give all our attention to ours younger son, WINDOWS PHONE 7.
Ok, that is just fine, you did few phones based on WP7, good for you. Well guess what, we run it better, smoother, on a bigger screen, hell, even if we get sick of it we just do restart and BAM WE ARE IN ANDROID 2.3.5!
We don't need much from Mirosoft now, we can handle almost anything, HEY MICROSOFT WE RUN MANGO, we can update via Zune!!!
Only one thing really annoys me: Dear Microsoft, do we really ned to cheat your support agents to give us activation keys to use live services and market places?
For Gods sake! We are your children, we use Windows on phone, at home, we said no to apple (Adam and Eve couldn't do that) Do you really need to treat us like this?
Please all users, make online petitions, facebook groups, send mails. We need to get this.
You don't need to cheat..you can chat and get an id. They are not asking you anything about your phone . They just want name, contact no., and email id

Microsoft buys in to NOOK

I thouht this might be of interest: http://nyti.ms/JmkCqd
Good for B&N. I'm sad to say that my next tablet will not be a Nook. With all of the tablets on the horizon and the sweet Samsung 7" for $250, I will move on.
I hear that the deal with Microsoft is meant to boost the education division of B&N. Hopefully when my son is of middle school age, we will be done with carrying 10+ pounds of books.
And running some form of Windows 8, I suspect... Ah weel, we'll always have the old Nook Color (and Paris).
Yeah, this was a mistake and will be costing them customers in the long run. Worse, this looks like the embrace section of Microsoft's infamous embrace, extend, extinguish strategy.

Don't be so pessimistic we don't know what will come of this. From what I read this may be education focused and could bring a lot to the table for educational books and readers which is sorely lacking. This does not appear to be a general tablet play and if it bolsters education resources I'm all for it
Just putting my 2 cents in so dont hate on me, but I think this may be a relatively good move for Microsoft since this will now give them a massive book market (which zune sorely lacks) and there is a SLIGHT (as in 10% or less) chance that we may see a Nook windows 8 tablet in the future.

Microsoft is still Microsoft. Their corporate culture leaves me with absolutely no optimism wherever they're involved somewhere, because it ensures they're going to mess things up for everyone else. Embrace, Extend, Extinguish--maybe you've heard of it? This is Microsoft's modus operandi in pretty much any market they enter. No sir, I do not feel any reason to be optimistic and many many reasons to be pessimistic.
Barnes and Noble were one of the few companies to see Microsoft's Android\Linux patent play for what it was and had nothing to lose in telling the patent troll to go bugger itself and to fight those patents in court. This move means that Barnes and Noble will shut up about the whole thing from this time forward, and Microsoft and resume their McCarthyistic extortion racket again.
Oh and for those saying that this doesn't change Barnes and Noble, maybe you might want to read this. A complaint. Singular. Probably from a small town in Washington state...
--bornagainpenguin
If Microsoft was smart they would get on the bandwagon and add support for android devices in windows. They are already making more on licensing fees on patents for android than windows phone, why not increase their profits even more. I hope Microsoft sees the advantage in making this work for the consumer, and not forcing BN to drop the SD slot and push people to their online services, which is how Microsoft has killed a lot of software. Sure in a perfect world online services would be great, but nothing is perfect and I have too much experience with Microsoft to trust their online services for anything important..

You seem to think it is accidentally that these things happen, it isn't. Microsoft cares more about control than they do profit, because they know that with control comes the ability to name their own price. But first they need to kill off alternatives to set up their toll booth.

Both Nokia and Intel are readying Windows 8 tablets and HTC is probably waiting to unleash one later two. It's all part of the Microsoft global domination strategy. By 2016 tablets will overtake laptops. MS will have a big play in that. Having a captive E-book and media outlet like B&N makes good business sense. We shouldn't under-estimate the productivity clout that MS Windows brings to the market. If the hardware is good and reasonably priced, they will make a big splash in the tablet world.
This is probably a play into the digital textbook business more than anything else. According to the Economist (http://www.economist.com/node/21554200) the deal includes B&N's college textbook arm. I think Microsoft wants to have a ready supply of e-textbooks when they finally release Window 8 in a play to capture the student market away from Apple. This would mean having the textbooks, software, and hardware. This is a good play for all of those. What it means for a hack-able nook in the future.... well at least other tablets at our price point are getting better.
While I won't say that this is definitely a good thing for all B&N costumers (because this could be a grim glimplse of the shape of things to come) there is an upside to this. B&N and their Nook have been having trouble going against Amazon and Apple because both of those companies have much deeper pockets. This little cash injection might just keep either of those companies from squishing B&N, which, in turn, is good for the consumers. Their competition favors us, mostly. The rest . . . . well, we'll see.
