[APP] KSheet - Xoom Themes and Apps

So this guy has quit development of his app KSheet and made it open license/gnu. My question is, how many other of you out there are AD&D4e players like me that would like to clean this up and make it a little better? I have already gone in and changed the XML so that it worked in landscape and upped the revision limit so that it puts the menus in the top right instead of the bottom like an older app... that was the easy stuff LOL. I'm kinda new to this, what do we do to support this... sign up as contributors and check changes in? Never really done that before.

Where you found source code, that this guy tell is avaible?
Would be wonderful if you can do some interesting changes

Individual Phone power.

I honestly couldn't think of a good title, and I was half and half about posting this in the themes/wallpaper section or developement.
But ever since we started partitioning our sd cards I always felt like that was something we should be able to do through our phones, mainly because I lacked resources to download and run everything.
And now I'm thinking it would be very nice if we had a feature to customize our phones without using our PC's or MAC's! I could go into detail about what to include but I'm sure we all know what we want to see done.
And besides, the HTC Sapphire has that FreshFace app that looks ok, but lets out due that app already and build something along these lines of deeper, better, more personal customization.
No offense to any theme makers I appreciate all your work.
This should be in the apps section, definitely not development.
How about Open Home or aHome?
Or better yet, you can create your own theme and it would be completely customized

Lol I would if I was educated enough in the manner, I'd pretty much make whatever anyone wanted because I think its pretty interesting. Just given my enviorment of a family p.c. and a small notebook, I doubt I'll have the right time to learn and all that buddy.
android being open source "is" what you speak of in terms of customization already.. problem is that it "is" customization only by the ones who speak the language of Java.
Themes or whatnot can be done with resigning new images into a update.zip without too much learning curve if you know how to do graphics.
The ones without the talent.. like hyenas.. just take what they can get and get by on xda lurking.
I started closest to the last statement and am now currently at the second where I can comfortably change graphics and use adb and signing apk as I please. This lets me pretty much change anything minus the rom and os itself that requires coding. I just got my second bill from t-mo.
Just do it.

Experia X10 User Interface for HD2 ???

I have a question, a buddy of mine has the Xperia x10, and to my view, it has a beautiful UI, does anyone know:
1. If i can install it on my HD2 running android 2.2 ?
2. If so, where can it be found ?
3. If not, is there anyone that have considered making a theme to emulate the Interface?
If there are anyone doing anything in this line, please lemme know.
Thanx
Ive just had a quick look on youtube at the x10 and It doesnt have any custom UI it has standard Android interface?
Apologies, perhaps i misstated the question, never the less, looking at the video :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m19Lu-JUW1Q
It has some clear differences from what i'm running, tho similar is some ways-
For example:
Up-scrolling Arc Unlock,
Up-scrolling Drawer,
Nice contact scrolling
However i guess the rest is just the smoothed over blue theme, but the differences are nice, i guess it's the "sense" for SonyEricsson
you could say that but then they pretty much redisgned Android almost completly,Android itself only runs in the background. The only way we can do it is by a port and then change the Kernel etc..... to make it compatible with HD2,it is possible, just need some Dev to do it

The default interface is pretty different, and it is quite nice looking. Obviously, with it being Android you can just clear the default setting for the launcher and press the home button to run a different one, so that's probably what you saw on YouTube.
I've got a mate with an SE X10 and he hates Timescape & Mediascape. He says the SE software is far too embedded into the OS for it to be a purely native Android device. Thats also the reason why they had to wait for months and months (after promises from Sony) for Android 2.1.
If it were possible, I'd have a play with it, but from what I've heard I don't expect this to be done. Without the source code there's no way to know how it plugs into the existing OS. It's not just an apk that runs on top of it.
Thats rather unfortunate that the have embedded it so deeply, does your mate not like the timescape\mediascape purely because its embedded so deeply or does he have other issues aswell?
Whatever the case may be, we can agree that it's a great looking interface, and i for one wouldn't mind running it on my HD2, especially since we have the option of running anything on it.
Unfortunately I have NO dev skills of any sort- else i'd be on this like a fat kid on a cupcake, I hope a dev sees the thread and go: "Hey, that looks like an ambitious and worthwhile project to undertake"

My mate's just not impressed with the functionality. He's found market apps/widgets that do just as much and more, and he has more control over them. It does look nice though, and I think it has promise but would need to be developed further to get the best out of it.
Before the HD2 i owned a Xperia x10.
It does have a custom interface, the Timescape, but you do not want to use it trust me. Back in the day it was laggy like hell, do not know about it now.
And i think that is just like the htc sense with roots deep in the android system and can not be extracted.

No Frill Thrill is now Doomed Froyo coming along slowly

Well after being out of town for a week and not having my laptop I am finally home. Work has already began but, I am torn as to which way I will go. Right now I have a mix of Thriller 1.0.3 and ThaizD and I am thinking about ditching that and modding CM7 which will be a lot of work to get things working correctly. I am running my rom right now and posting from the XDA tapatalk app. There is still a lot of tweaking that needs to be done. I haven't even touched the theme yet, just a few tweaks.
I will hopefully be releasing a beta within the next week or so as long as I have enough time, been very busy lately. Just thought I would get the word out. So far everything is working well, which isn't saying much since I haven't really done any experimenting yet.
As of now I am calling it "No Frill Thrill" because it is going to be a very stripped down rom. I am trying to focus more on speed, battery, memory, GPS and theme. Users will be able to just restore data and get everything they had back.
Guess that's all the info I have for now. I will post updates now and then to let you guys know how progress is going.
I look forward to seeing what u can come up with. I'm sure everyone else will appreciate any advancements we can get. Really looking forward to the possibility of new kernels and more radios that can be flashed down the road. New theming alone would definitely make the UI better. This has got to be one of the ugliest and worst designed UI to come on a phone.

Yeah, it will be a bit before I get anything done. Need to setup my laptop and take a nap lol Im an old man and if I work while sleepy Ill screw everything up... so nap time then I set to work.
Junk post sorry guess I got a lame place holder
I think we all agree that we appreciate any work that is done to make this phone/any phone better. I have a high appreciation for all of the developers.
While you're napping and rom creating, I'll be playing...

Yes, I'm all over this tomorrow at 5.
i would love to help i dont no anything about programming but i am a fast learner i built my first computer from the ground up when i was 12 years old is there anything i could learn that would help with the developing also i dont know know if anyone here likes miui it would be great if we could get that on our thrill thanks love to hear from you
I might need some testers for pre release but that wont be for a while. Progress is coming along nicely though I will post some screenshots and a little bit more info once I get further. Right now I'm not happy with it enough to release any shots because things will be changing. Still not sure which kernel i am going to use nor am I sure of the theme right now looks kind of shoddy.
And just so you know, I have a lot going on so progress on my rom is slow things will be a little less hectic in the next week so things will really pick up then.

glad to see somebody stepping up to the plate to develop a new rom...
i am a really good graphic designer so if you need any help theming let me know... i can throw a nice framework-res together for ya.. just let me know what style you are going for... or i can pitch my own ideas..
im definetly also willing to test... if something goes wrong i can use adb well and fix it.. im not a noob so you dont gotta worry bout that.. lol
I'm looking forward to it. Too bad I can't figure out how to flash my CWM Screen correctly.

what do you mean CWM Screen?
Well things are picking up now. I have added some extra tweaks to not just the build.prop but a few other places as well. Not getting too involved in this because GB is coming soon so this is just for fun and to improve our phone while we wait. Trekfan will hopefully be designing a nice theme/ui so thank him as well he hasnt actually agreed but I think from his offer in his last post its safe to say he will.
Lastly I think there will be a name change...

I can test this ROM if you need. As long as it doesn't brick my phone lol
Well here's some screens of certain parts, pay no attention to the status bar I haven't really messed with that yet, like I said things are going slow but will pick up soon.
The first shot is of the dialer which I'm going to make all the buttons like #5 and smooth out the graphics and make them look much better.
Second shot is of the pop-up windows green glow border and orange load circle. This will also be changing in the future.
Third shot is just something stupid, changed the lock pattern circles to little android guys.
I have also edited the messaging app and will be doing much more once I get a few days of free time.
Name changed to Doomed Froyo
I cant wait to try it. Sounds like a good ROM. Got to give props to the developers for taking time developing apps for the Thrill.
Looks great, but the five button does look sort of ugly IMO, otherwise amazing job.

lol yeah it's just an example of what it's going to look like, I have to clean up the graphics and give them soft edges and what not
Oh and if Trekfan is making a theme then things are going to probably look completely different still haven't heard anything yet. I am really waiting to see if that's going to happen so I have an idea of a color scheme, I am very particular to the green and orange though... something about green orange and black they go together so well in my eyes.

WooHoo thanks to Trekfan for putting together a very nice framework, it isn't quite done yet but what is there is looking very fancy!
Things that have been done:
Speed Tweaks
Memory Management Tweaks
Camera/Video Tweaks (Still working on some settings)
GPS Tweaks
DNS Tweaks
Ads Blocked with Host file
+ More
Things to do:
Add Wallpapers/Ringtones/Notification tones/Fonts +extras
Add extra apps (cpu master/XDA forum app + others)
Update Apps to newest versions
Finish framework theme (THANKS A TON TO TREKFAN)
Remove any bloat (always last thing for me to do....)
Finish altering contacts.apk, mms.apk and lghome.apk (coming along slowly I have been neglecting other things working on this stuff lol this may wait until the full release after beta)
There are many more things that will be done, screenshots of the INCOMPLETE theme will be coming today and hopefully we can have an official beta release this weekend. I hope everyone enjoys this ROM as it is meant to not only enhance our devices but also give everyone a bit of variety as the development on this phone is pretty stale. One thing that I hope to do is release flashable "themes" or frameworks so once you download the ROM you can then just download and flash .zips in CWM and have a variety of looks.
Another big THANK YOU goes out to gtg and all his work on the Thriller ROM and all the other guys over on the O3D forum keep up the good work everyone.
1. Screenshot of the plain desktop, things will be changing like the default wallpaper and the look of the launcher will be changed on post beta release.
2. Shot of the pulldown notification area.
3. Shot of the new check boxes, buttons have been changed as well.
4. Shot of the toasts, pop-ups, you can see the loading wheel in the top right and a bit more.
Things here and there may change, also the battery indicator goes from blue (full) to green to orange to yellow to red (low) there has been a lot more changed besides what you see so everyone thank Trekfan for all his hard work putting this together. THANKS TREK
Also, once this is released it will be in the Development section as of right now this is just general stuff that's why I posted it here, if the mods wish to move this thread to Development so be it and I will just update first.
For those of us who have bought the xda premium app... The one in the rom doesnt uninstall properly... Pain in the butt.. Haha just sayin... Yeah I need to fix acouple of things in the theme... I got a few inconsistincies... Will work on it tomorrow morning and afternoon... And will upload, with some new screenshots

[Q] Making my own ROM from AOSP (school project)

Hi guys/girls,
I would like to create a Galaxy S (I9000) ROM for a school project from AOSP.
There are a few to I would like to know before I start:
Because I can't work on it for more than 80 hours (including research), would this be do-able for a person with no real programming experience (yet)?
What version of Android do you recommend me to make? (which is the best for a beginner)
Does it cost me money? (drivers from samsungs?)
Will you be able to help me if I can't figure it out with Google/XDA?
My goal is to make it work, not to make it the fastest ROM on XDA or something professional.
Thank you for your answer.
No one?
10 charsss
Hi,
Sounds like an exiting project. I think the easiest way to get started would be to use dsixda's Android Kitchen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257297
Interesting, i'll follow this thread
I would say no to less than 80 hours, especially if you have no experience.
Download any rom from here modify bootanimation and some
Minor GUI elements as well as add some apks and submit it. Nobody's gonna know a thing (since this is a school project)

Hmm okay thank you for the answer, that was my main point..
Then I'll have to figure something out for a new subject, because I can't just do what Gcuhiha sais (60-100 hours min-max and you can do that in 5 min) and Dsixda's Android Kitchen sounds great but not for this sort of project, from what I read about it and saw on video it's not really advanced and you're finished kinda soon. I do have to write a report about it on how I did it and that kind of things and ofcourse I can't say I pressed 1 and 2 and installed it..
Is making an app different? I mean is it possible to make one in ~80 hours? (for the samsung galaxy s GT I9000)
For making a simple game, i.e. Snake.
The reason why I said no is that compiling Android from aosp source is a massive project. It took some of the most experienced developers months just to get cm7 working on the i9000. The codes for the drivers are a nightmare to work out, and not something that you want to deal with in a 80 hour time scale. You might well have something working by the end, but it's going to be buggy to the point that it might not be useable.
As for building a stock ROM like someone else has suggested, now that's easy. The framework is already there, so all you are really doing is some theming, adding a few extra apps and may be tweaking some kernel values. It's not really cheating, but probably not very satisfying.
As for writing your own app, well that should definitely be doable, especially if you make use of tools like app builder. Android programming is a lot like java, so knowing that will help, but not necessary. High level programming language is very similar to normal English.
Knowledge is Power. Guard it well.

Just want to know if it's possible.

Hey android lovers,
I'm in a difficult situation so I hope some one can please help me and being clear to me because my adhd. thanks in advance already.
I'm 23 years old and I'm having a iPhone since my 17th and since my 18th I'm into jailbreak, hacken, designing etc etc. and my best friend really likes what I do.
So I really want to design something for her, not huge. I was thinking about something awesome.
I think it would be fun to make 2 different styles of icons. Because android have '2 springboards'. I don't want to make her confused or something so I want to stay also colorful at the 'first' springboard and the 'second' a little bit how I like and that's usually dark background, wallpaper and colorful effects in the icon self.
But before I'm talking more about my really exciting feelings for that because I have so many new ideas because the difference between apple and android. I need to get to the point. I really don't know nothing about android, the development or what kind of designs already exsist, so sorry if my idea is old ;p I don't hate android at all, but ya, I know how to call with it. I am googling now for 3 hours maybe more to know if there is a way to install or convert .deb to a android. I have seen launchers to install iOS themes and tweaks. I know android is a open source so is there a way if I make the icons for her, that she can download it and activate in her launcher? Or, a other way to convert it? I don't want to look stupid here or something. I know android works different but for sure more options than Apple without jailbreak.
So I hope anyone can tell me if its possble, I can work with Debian and Windows only. And if it's possible but maybe 'hard' to make it android proof. I will read everything on Internet and learn from it. I know I can make my best friend happy with it.
Thanks,
Sandra
