My phone has be working fine until it ran out of battery and now doesn't boot properly. I have fully charged the battery overnight but it still not functioning. It appears to boot, vibrates several times in a sequence(buzz---------------------buz-buzz-buzz). Sometimes it repeats this in a loop. I get the login screen briefly and can unlock, but the apps are frozen, or will open then screen goes black and I can't turn on the display. The nav buttons stay lighted. I've removed the battery several times but same result. Sometimes when I hold down the display button I get the
I rooted the phone weeks ago and running stock froyo -- no other changes and no recent changes so this doesn't make any sense other than a hardware failure.. possibly the internal SD. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Something like that happened to my friend's vibrant. His phone was completely stock - no root, no custom rom. One day it just decided to start going in to boot loops for no apparent reason. Battery pulls didn't help. He tried doing a factory reset from recovery and ended up in even worse shape.. The phone would boot into some debug screen and just die there. We figured it was probably some hardware problem, took it back to T-mo and got a replacement.
All of the buzzing was different things force closing, I would flash back to stock. And see if it still does it. Also this is not development related so I will move it over the Q&A
I was able to disable gps when the phone had a brief moment of clarity. Once I did that it stopped having spasms, so possibly a bad gps??
Did a factory reset and the phone is back to normal

Tonight my G1 displayed some very odd behavior. It was running normally and I pressed the power button to make it sleep and I set it aside. About half an hour later I picked it up and tried to turn it on by pressing menu. The phone gave no response other than lighting up the five buttons on the bottom. I tried sliding the keyboard out and the keyboard lit up as well, but the display remained black. Plugging it in via USB to my computer did absolutely nothing (no sounds, no notification light, etc.), and I got the same result when I plugged it into the charger. I finally decided to take the battery out in order to turn the phone off, and then put it back in and pressed the power button. The phone booted up normally, and now everything seems to be working in proper order. I am slightly concerned, however, as I have never had this behavior in the year that I have owned my G1. I am running Cyanogen 4.1.999 with the Hard SPL boot loader. I am unsure whether this behavior has anything to do with the mod and I am wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar. I do realize that if my phone is bricked it is my fault, and I want to determine if this was simply a freak accident or if I need to do something differently with the phone.
first of all if your phone was bricked you wouldn't be able to use it. as for your problem it doesnt sound too serious so if i were you i wouldn't worry about it. but if it does happen again reflash your phone and if it happens after that, pitch it to cyanogen to see if there is a problem with the rom.
I do realize that it isn't bricked now, but I am worried that this behavior could mean that I am pushing the phone too hard. I am mostly curious as to whether or not anyone else has experienced similar behavior from their G1.
Turn off compatibility mode in spare parts.
don't worry this is a common problen It happens to me all the time any hero I flash plays nice for about a day. and then boom no problems with cyan!
I had the same problem, but unfortunately my G1 is still not working properly.
In the morning, turning off the alarm I left the phone for 5 minutes. An attempt to turn it on did not work: there was no reaction on display, although the buttons were lighting up. I restarted phone taking the battery out and now I have following:
- keyboard fully closed: no reaction/black display, buttons are lighted up
- keyboard open: I can do everything: change ROM/make call/write messages/Internet/GPS/... - everything what is possible to do with rooted G1
- keyboard partially open (visible only lowest row with such buttons as ALT, SHIFT, SPACE): similar to 'open' but with changed orientation
Can anyone help/advise? Did almost everything: ROM changed, full wipe, recovery
Please help! My rooted LG Revolution won't turn on. When I unplugged it from the charger this morning I powered it off. when I went to power it back up all it does is flash the LG logo and do a little vibrate like it is force closing! I have 2 days left before I can no longer return it. I did several battery pulls also with no luck. thanks in advance!

Did you install Clockwork on it, or just rooted?
If you only rooted it, try performing a factory reset.
This can be accomplished by holding volume down and power until you see the screen change to "Clear data and factory reset?".
Press power to confirm.
You will lose your data, but your phone should return to normal.
Just rooted, no clockwork. I will give it a try! thanks!
Tried your suggestion...just keeps flashing and vibrating. Any other suggestions?
Did you ever see the factory reset screen?
No I didn't. just the LG logo flashing and the force close vibrate. the only way I can get it to stop is to take the battery out and put it back in. Then when I hold the voume down and the power button it just starts doing it all over again.

make sure you are holding it long enough. You have to continue to hold the power and vol button for sometime before you get the recovery screen.
As rooting will generally not brick a phone (it is the recovery mod that generally bricks), if you cannot get it, take it back tell them you woke up and it was on the charger like this. They should exchange it with out issue. (Do not mention that you rooted the phone)
It sounds to me like your phone is defective, it happens.
Another option is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1120062 .
I can walk you through it on IRC tonight if you're on around 12PM Pacific Time...
If not, there are guides for using LGNPST on the internet.
Good luck!
Thanks! Held the buttons down for a full 3 minutes and nothing. Is that long enough? Read through the other info you posted and boy does that look scary! LOL! I will try tomorrow when I have more time. Or maybe I should just return it since I have only had it for 12 days
try pulling the battery and holding the power key for about 30 seconds. my original droid use to do this from time to time and it always worked for me.
Thanks. Tried but it did not work. Ended up just returning it and getting a new one. Now I can start over! LOL Just came from the Samsung Fascinate and was pretty proficient in flashing roms and kernels. But I have to admit that I am a little confused with the process on the Revolution.
Not sure boot problem is related to root
I've had repeated problems with not being able to boot my Revolution. This has happened consistently no matter which ROM I've used. I've factory reset and tried Decrap and Revolt both. I can reboot my phone fine, but if I ever turn it off overnight, I go back to a blank screen in the morning.
It seems a number of non-root users have this problem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOGM__SQB6Y
I'm not sure if having a low battery contributes to the problem, but I do know that Clockwork works better with a full battery.
This morning is the first time, however, that I have this exact problem. For a few times this morning I was able to get to clockwork and restore different ROMs, but always to the same blank loop during boot. Now not even able to get to Clockwork or Factory Reset. I'm headed in to Verizon to try for a replacement. I'll let you know if they make any noises about rooting.
Getting back into Clockwork
Update: I ended up getting back to Clockwork. Can't say exactly what did it, but what seemed to work was:
1. Charging the battery fully overnight
2. Removing the battery and holding the power button down for 30 seconds
3. Leaving the battery out for some time, about an hour I guess
4. With the battery still removed, plugging the phone in and allowing the bottom lights to flash about 10 times
5. Replacing the battery, holding down the power button and volume down.
After a full day of not being able to get into Clockwork, I was able to get in and do a factory reset.
Returning Rooted Phone to Verizon
FYI, I returned a rooted, stuck in boot loop phone to Verizon yesterday. In the store they arranged the return and did not ask about or look for rooting in any way.
They did try a factory reset, which was not working in any case, so no signs of Clockwork.
Same problem, different results.
I have a ROOTED LG Revo, but the first one I owned had the same problem. That one was NOT rooted, so must just be an LG thing. First phone had stock android 2.2, and this one has STOCK 2.3.4 ( after OTA ), and is just rooted with simple memory management and font tools. I WAS able to Hard Factory Reset, but the same problem still existed after reset. ADB cannot even recognize the handset. Boots with animation, stops halfway through, reboots into blank screen and freezes. RETARDED!!! This will be the second handset being sent back in as little as a month. I bought the REVO the DAY it came out, and loved it. But now I don't. No love left. I'm getting the Droid Razr!

Please don't necro threads....
So currently I can boot my phone and it displays the boot screen fine. Once its done loading though I just have black screen. Moto display still works and shows new notifications but if I try to unlock the phone its still just the black screen. I can hold down the power button and the power menu shows up fine. I tried clearing the cache but that didn't help. Before I do a factory reset I thought I might see if any one here had some ideas on solutions.
I have the latest 5.1 OTA update. My phone us unlocked, but not rooted. I tried to hook it up to my computer to see if I could at least grab my files off of it, but while it shows up on my computer I can't access any actual files or directories.
I've tried searching around, but I can't find anyone else with a similar issue. Last night my phone battery ran down to zero (and rather quickly compared to normal usage). I may have ****ed it up by trying to get it to boot and be usable while charging but with the battery only at 1% (I guess with the standard charger an in-use Moto X uses power faster than it can take it from the charger). I tried letting it charge for a few minutes and then letting it boot, but after a couple of minutes of use it would shut down again. I finally gave up and let it charge. I didn't really pay attention to its status, but in the middle of the night when I woke up I booted it before falling back to sleep. Not sure there's a connection to my issue and this or not.
Any ideas on what the cause might be or what I can try to do to remedy the issue without data loss?
Edit: I ended up just doing a factory reset and that worked. Admin can feel free to delete this thread if they want.
This sounds similar to the issue here:

This is a bug that needs to be reported to Motorola.
I am that guy from the second post, and I wasn't able to recover the phone. Connecting to PC did not do anything. I would like to ask: is it booting with the new boot animation? Or old one? Because mine showed old animation long after the update was sent out, so I'm thinking the update may have tried to apply and failed, thus breaking the phone. Should all efforts fail, your only bet is to boot into recovery (power + volume up when off, volume down, volume up in the option menu (to select recovery), then hold power when Android robot appears, and while holding it down, press the vol up button once to make the list of recovery options appear. Scroll down to wipe data/factory reset, press power to select, then find Yes to confirm. Good luck!
so this just happened
i came back from a trip and took a whoooole lot of photos. when i came back my battery went to zero and device switched off. i charged the phone to 10-20% and switched it on and all i see is blank screen only moto display is working and power off option is showing itself when i hold the power button which is the same problem as yours
havent done any factory reset yet. is there any way to retreive the photos since i dont want to lose them. there are around 600 and all of them are of the trip.
im on 5.1
there are other people too who faced the same problem and all of them are on 5.1 but there is no solution

Mine did this yesterday, although I'm not entirely certain that the battery hit zero percent. The best I could tell from looking through the logs in recovery was that something was trying to update and failed. I suspect that it was a push from Motorola that hosed it. The only way to fix it is to do a factory reset. Once I did that and restored all my apps the battery was draining at a rate of 40% per hour or so. I found that the package access helper was the culprit and rebooted the phone. Post reboot, I immediately noticed that the boot animation and Moto logo had changed from what they had been on 5.0/5.1 (prior to yesterday). I also noticed that some of the widgets I hadn't reconfigured after the reset were now back. Weird indeed.
Anyway, I have to agree with the others that this is a very bad bug, that needs to be fixed. I am cautiously optimistic that the factory reset has cured it but we'll see. Based on my experience with this phone so far and the sale of Moto to Lenovo, this will be my last Moto phone.
I am having the exact same issue. Has anybody had a luck resolving it short of a factory reset?
My phone battery died last night. I plugged my phone in, let it get about 15% charge, then tried to turn it back on. The phone boots like normal, but after the boot animation goes away, the screen is black. Active notifications still seem to work, and I can hold the power button to get the Power Down option. I can boot into the bootloader & access recovery just fine. However, my phone is fully stock (no root, no bootloader unlock, no anything). I can't seem to access ADB when the phone is powered normally (ie, when I'm at this mysterious black screen), but it's possible that USB debugging isn't even enabled.
So far, I've found a bunch people who've said a full factory reset will fix the problem, but I'm looking for another solution, or at least a way to grab my data before I reset. Since my bootloader's still locked, I can't seem to use fastboot boot to boot into TWRP, and I can't find any other way to access my data to copy it off the phone. I've tried wiping the cache using the stock recovery to no avail. Any suggestions?
Hi all,
My Galaxy S5 has been a real bear lately. At least once every single day, the phone completely locks up. Usually it's with the screen on, but other times has been while the screen is off and I can't get it to turn on. The weird part is that if there's an animation on the screen (like the battery charging animation), the animation still plays but everything else is just stuck. The only way to fix it is to battery pull or hold down the volume down + home + power buttons and force it to reboot.
This happening every day, at least once if not more. I've flashed different ROMs hoping that it was just a ROM that was the issue, but it doesn't fix it. When I flash the ROMs, I make sure to wipe everything except the SD card so it's a very clean install, but alas no bueno.
I'm about at my wits end and ready to go to the AT&T store today to turn in my phone and get a Nexus 6 or Galaxy S6, but thought maybe someone here may have ran into the same issue and was able to resolve it.
any help appreciated - thanks!
So I can't boot my phone. Previously stable h811, unlocked bootloader running latest 20i Extreme 3.3 MM with G4 Tweaksbox. I have a Qi/NFC sticker on the back, but which has worked flawlessly and was not in use when the phone died. Here's what happened and what I have attempted.
Problem began when phone simply went black. The only thing running was Maps, which had a route displayed but was not in navigation mode. The screen went dark like normal, and when I went to wake the phone, nothing happened. I was in the car and tried plugging in the car charger and did not get a charge light. Pulled the battery and was unable to get a response. The phone and battery were quite warm.
When I got home, I tried a different battery, and the screen turned on to the LG initial boot screen, but nothing else happened.
After many battery pulls and attempts to boot into recovery, I tried it with the phone plugged into the computer. Finally, it showed the charging screen and light, and after several more attempts- pulling the battery and inserting it, then powering on, it appeared to be booting, (boot animation started, but then looped and froze on the initial boot screen (with bootloader state: bootloader unlocked in the upper corner). After another round of attempt/battery pull, it booted all the way up, but at that point I had my sim pulled. Pulled the battery and tried to restart and it froze on the initial boot screen again. Haven't been able to get into recovery at all, can't get into download, can't boot past the initial LG screen. Sometimes it loops, sometimes it just hangs. Nothing I do pressing combos of buttons, plugged into computer or unplugged, seems to change anything. The very farthest I've gotten is the breathe blue light before the boot animation, but then it looped. Now it's boot looping plugged into the computer.
Any ideas? I'm at a total loss.

Im bricked myself from another issue but i think there is a black screen of death issue with some of the g4s
Try to boot download mode and re flash stock kdz with Lg up tool
You will loose all data though.
Good luck on help here noones helped me at all .
The g4 is just not a good device or user friendly
Sent from my LGMS631 using XDA Free mobile app
Black screen of death here too
Yesterday, I was using Chrome, site loading, screen just went black. I had about 1/2 battery at the time. I figured maybe the battery was just reporting wrong. When I got home, swapped batteries, same issue. I've been able to get into recovery and attempt a factory reset a couple of times (after many frustrating attempts.) The phone seems to only be able to be powered on for about 30 seconds before it goes black again. I'm going to attempt to fix with download mode now. If anyone else has solved a similar issue, any tips would be appreciated.
Hardware appears to be at fault!
Check this out, people!

Spread the word. Sounds like this is our problem. Apparently affecting mostly models with serial numbers starting 505xxxxx... which is what mine is. Called LG and they issued an RA# and shipping label to send it to them for service. I'm a little concerned since I didn't buy mine through a carrier, but this seems more like something of a soft recall than strictly a warranty issue, so I'm hoping they fix it no questions asked. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress.
Same thing happened to me today. My phone randomly shut off and it won't boot. Its stuck at the Android logo. I wasn't messing around with it. Just normal use (Snapchat, youtube). I tried booting into recovery but it just goes back to the android screen LG logo and keeps looping. I at least want to wipe the phone before I send it (personal info).
Same here. Mine has serial number starting 505, was purchased back at end of 5/2015 with not problems until this. I filled out the warranty repair form on LGs website and they sent me an RMA with label to get it fixed. I sent it in, they sent it back, and the only thing I see is on one sheet they printed out and included in the package said 'replaced board'. However, when I started up the phone it looked like new initialization with xx of yy apps initializing and then it began bootlooping with the LG splash screen. So frustrating!
So, this time I contacted t-mobile via their online chat, and did a warranty exchange through them. They will send me a replacement LG G4 next day ups air and I will send them the defective one for them to claim warranty themselves. We'll see where this goes. I might just take the replacement unit and do a tmobile jump exchange to another device. I wanted to wait for the new line of HTC nexus phones that are rumored for this year (and was loving the LG 4 until it died), but I might need to just jump twice this year and go for something like the new Samsung S7 of new LG G5 now and then again switch to HTC nexus once that comes out.
Sent mine to LG, and they fixed under warranty with no questions asked. Got it back within a week. All good now.
