Just to put this out there is there any way around the invalid imei. I am running into an issue where it wont let me install navigation software because of it.
Real bummer.
if you're using copilot using an older version will fix that.

I was using google maps but cant get it to function proplerly. I downloaded copilot yesterday morning simply because in the market they said they fixed the imei problem but they did not so... i never even got a chance to get it running. I guess i am going to have to wait and see if copilot decides to support non stock roms.
If you install the 502 version it works fine. PM

CoPilot has said they're fixing this in a future version, you don't have to pirate it. Email them.
Sheesh.
Nobody is talking about pirating the app - you still need your own activation code to get the software working. You just need an older copy of the app before they added the IMEI checking. You still need to pay for the app to get your activation code in order to get the older version running.

Good deal
Theyve been saying three is a fix for a few weeks now. I got tired of waiting and used an older version I had backed up. Now I try to avoid upgrading it

I did buy the latest one from the market. Its stated they fixed the invalid imei problem for android devices.... Not. as soon as i installed i popped up invalid. i contacted them and this is the response i got,
"Response (Matthew) - 22/04/2011 11.27 AM
Dear Paul,
Thank you for contacting CoPilot Technical Support.
Unfortunately we do not support our software on the Nook. Also if you are using a custom ROM then you do so at your own risk. We will not support our software in case of custom ROMs. I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

so as far as them fixing it ????
Haven't tested it for this purpose but check out my thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004102
Shows how to spoof the IMEI on NC by changing framework.jar.
I believe there are other function calls which fetch IMEI so I cannot guarantee it works for all applications but it does override the most common API call that returns IMEI
copilot works for me
Phyremod 6.0, latest copilot after the update, all ok for me. Previous version got me the error about invalid IMEI. This latest version worked just fine. I used Copilot on my Nook color to get from my home in Los Angeles to somewhere in Santa Barbara, worked perfectly fine.
I was surprised to find that it even recorded the gps track and could be played afterwards.
There must be something else wrong with your setup there.

How do I download and use the "[email protected]" app from USAA bank from outside the US? It's free but I need to get a legitimate copy of it for obvious reasons. I emailed USAA and did the obvious Google searches before posting this, but I am getting nowhere. I am making the assumption that they are limiting it to the US market (I'm in the UK). I am running a compatible version of Android, so I should see it, but I don't. Here are my basic questions:
1) If I got the .apk somehow and installed it here in the UK, would it work from here?
2) Would using a wifi connection with it be different than a mobile network?
3) If #2 is yes, could I configure my router to use a US proxy?
I really like the idea of taking a picture of a check with my G1, and depositing it that way. If anyone has figured this out please let me know how it works. Thanks.

These are assumptions, not answers:
Most likely it would work from UK in any form you try to use (WiFi/network). I would assume since USAA will have clients outside of the US for obvious reasons there would probably be no check that you're on a US carrier.
If you're having trouble getting the apk, I could download it from the market and send it to you. Send me a PM and I can email it to you.
Here it is. Hope it works from abroad!
Sweeet!
Thanks, r4d14n7. I appreciate the help. I just tried it over wifi and it worked no problem. Haven't tried it over 3G but I bet that works too. I was using the regular [email protected] before, but this is even better.
** Mods if you can change the title of the post to "[email protected] .apk outside the US?" it would help others searching for this same issue. I'm a noob and I wasn't able to type it out correctly...thanks.

What phone and version are you using, because I DL'd and tried to install, but it keeps giving me "aaplication not installed".
I'm using Sprint HERO, but version 2.1, so I should be good to go, thanks.
forty01 I'm using the latest stable Cyanogen build (4.2.15.1) on a HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1. I downloaded the .apk to my desktop, then transferred it to the memory card on the phone over USB, and disconnected the cable. Then I just navigated to the .apk file in Astro file manager and opened it (touch the .apk file in Astro and then touch "open app manager"). I've got the phone's SD card partitioned with the apps running off that (apps to SD). You probably did the same thing but I'm covering all the basics here to avoid any confusion. Hope you get it working. If I left anything out here just ask for help again.
Yess i have the htc eris and can not find the mobile banking app for regions can any one help??
That was downloaded from the market just before I posted it (10Mar2010). I'm running a G1, but I'm not sure that makes any difference. I'm a little noobish when it comes to apks
I overlooked something obvious here but I'm learning. I just tried the "Market Enabler" and now I see the USAA app from overseas. That's got to be the simplest way to grab it, and keep it updated.
Can I get this to work on Cupcake? I'm running the Aloysius ROM on a CDMA Hero. The software version says 1.56.651.2, and the .apk above won't install.

Not on Cupcake (Android 1.5), it runs on Donut (Android 1.6) or higher.
From the USAA website... "The Android app is free and available now for devices running the Android operating system version 1.6 or later."
You will have to upgrade to a newer version of Android before installing. When you do, grab the USAA app directly from the market. Use the Market Enabler (search for it) to get the app if you are outside the USA. Good luck.
Reviving this thread. I have a GSM Hero (U.K, unlocked, not Orange) running Android 2.1 and still cant find this USAA app in the market. Anyone know why?
** Update August 2011, I removed the attachment, it's a year old. The only correct way to do this from outside the US is to root, use Market Enabler, and get it in the Marketplace.
Here's the newest version of the app, attached below. (Removed)
First thing you need is a file browser to navigate to the .apk, once it's on your phone's memory card. Find a file browser in the market if you don't have one yet. You will have to enable installing third-party sources, your phone will prompt you if you haven't already. The problem with this method is that you can't update the app, and you have to trust my attachment as being safe.
A better way is to root your phone, and install Market Enabler (Google it). Requires root access, but it works perfectly. You can use it over wifi, 3G, whatever. You can use it to browse a lot of different markets. Plus, you can download the USAA app directly from the market, and update it that way, too.
Post a reply or PM me if that doesn't work out for you. Also, email USAA and ask them to make it available outside the US. I did, and they aren't ready to do it yet. Silly, considering who their members are. Just my opinion.

I agree with everything you said. Did you actually talk to USAA about that? Yeah, I went looking for Market Enabler etc, but you need root (as you said). I can't find a reasonable guide for rooting a stock 2.1 GSM Europen Hero (unbranded/unlocked). Is there one?

This looks promising. [theunlockr.com] Third line for "unbranded European users"
One thing I didn't think to mention yet is to try something like App Brain. I haven't used it yet but it's pretty popular on this and other android forums. I think you can set up an account on the website, load their app on your rooted or un-rooted phone, and load apps that way. Worth a try.

Thanks so much r4d14n7. I was having problems getting the app from the market as well. I live in Belgium.
But now that I got the app up and working, I tried to use [email protected] and it is telling me it cannot find my location. I have GPS and wifi on and both the maps application and my web browser on my vibrant are working. Any suggestions?
tpmaxwell2 I've never seen it try to get my location. I don't think it needs it. USAA is just limiting the download availability to the US. Once you get the .apk, anyone can use it. I'm using it no problem from the UK and it never switches on my GPS, nor is there any delay launching the app. It just comes right up. I posted an updated version in post #14, scroll up a little to see it. I've got that version running on both my rooted G1 and a stock, unrooted Desire from here in Europe. If you try it and still get location errors or other problems, post here again so we can figure out the problem.

So I enabled wifi location and the app worked! Thanks so much!!
FYI...
I ran across this thread after trading in my iPhone 3gs for a HTC Desire HD. I went into the market to download the USAA app, and it couldn't be found. As suggested above, I installed market enabled, set as a t-mobile phone, then searched again. The USAA app showed up in the search, I installed it, and it works fine. BTW, I'm in the UK as well. Hope this helps for anyone else having the same problem.
So I updated to FroYo manually thanks to the methods posted here. I've nearly reinstalled all my apps with the exclusion of one; Square. I cannot find it in the market and thought maybe the dev pulled it, but it shows up in 2.1 and web-based market browsers, just not in 2.2. Anyone else experiencing this? Can I just force the apk onto the phone somehow?

Same here.. seems like the copy protected apps are having problems.
This is not root or something else regarded - everyone has these issues.

Great to hear I'm not alone, but being an early adopter can sometimes blow (in the BAD way) =\
Is this being discussed in another thread? I did a search prior to posting and came up empty
EDIT: Mods, thanks for moving this to the appropriate forum. I've seen mention of this issue appear in various threads, though no thread of it's own. Will wait for devs to catch up with 2.2
I reported the same problem on modaco last night... I'm sure google will enable de protected apps this week, just a slight oversight on their side.
i had same problem, just put them apk on your sd card and install it. if it is being a stubborn app like a certain few just copy/paste or move them to data/private-app and install from in there. should take care of it 4 u.
Same problem here (Tapatalk Pro and Extended Controls missing).
when you create an app you can set a max api level to support, or not.
applications that have that set won't show on newer devices.
exzeus, square, and a few others seem to have done it...
give them about a month or so and you should see them come around.

Having the same issue here. Wife's N1 can't find WeatherBug Elite, or the Helix Launcher in the market. Even after reboot.
Same. Paul actually fixes it in his roms by changing the Rom fingerprint. Some of the unofficial nexus updates he integrated did the same thing to protected apps. Once fingerprint was changed, it seemed to have done the magic. I'm guessing that he will do the same next week for froyo.
Same here my paid app wont show up which means I may be losing sales so I'm pissed right now
Yeah, so no MLB app at the moment... which makes me unhappy.
Any word on an official response from Google yet on this issue?

A new beta version of Swype was released today that adds support for 1024 by 600 devices. I was able to download it and get it installed, but for some reason it keeps saying my license is invalid and tries to get me to generate the license again. I installed it several times and it keeps giving me the same error. Has anyone else run into this issue with the new version?
I'll download it tonight and give it a shot.
Would be nice to have a supported version of Swype for the NC.
How'd you manage to download the new beta? I used the Swype installer from the beta, but no dice on downloading that version
My guess is that Swype's "DRM" has the names of supported devices hard-coded into it. Which for 1024x600, that's just the 7" Galaxy Tab right now, right? Didn't that ship with Swype in the first place?
They'll probably never officially support the Nook until there's an open marketplace on the Device. Even then I wonder.
I am going to try hacking the apk on my Milestone this weekend to see if I can get it running on the Nook. I can imagine no keyboard more suited for the form-factor. The Gingerbread keyboard isn't bad in portrait mode typing with my thumbs, but swype would be so much better.
Swype-schmype swiping over such a large surface seems to defeat the point for me. Gingerbread is good for portrait as time pilot stated, but in landscape it sucks for thumbs. Only keyboard I've found so far and I dig is Thumb Keyboard. Splits/jars the keyboard and does make it really easy to type on.
My understanding of swype beta was that it checked your IMEI. Unfortunately the nook hasn't got a cell modem and therefor no IMEI (and no swype).
I would love to be wrong!
Ok, I'm wrong. Swype isntalls now! It runs and is enabled and i can tap type but swyping words doesn't seem to work. Any dieas?

I downloaded the Swype installer, installed it, and ran it. But it gives an error message that due to licensing issues, I can't install it on "additional devices".
How did you get it installed?
That is a known error. I'm not sure why I didn't get the additional devices bit. Did you download the latest installer? It was updated yesterday.
I think my swype is also restricted due to license issue. In the installer it says "ATTENTION! Swype is not properly licensed." and gives a procedure to fix it. This doesn't work though.

Yep, latest installer. Just downloaded this morning.
You could try the threads over at the swype beta forum regarding that error in the known bugs subforum. It seems that my work firewall is blocking that site ATM for some reason....... or I'd look :-\
It could very well be the IMEI generation routine in different ROMs. Report this problem on the Beta Forums and we'll see if someone can take a look at it.
i was able to download with the installer. but im getting constant fc's instead?
After several attempts and reboots I got it working BUT then it said that Swype was licensed for another device, but I just had done that.
So I think the problem is related to the IMEI since I saw on spectral souls description that the game wouldn't work on the nook color because every time it would generate a different IMEI number.
Any thoughts?

Had you installed Swype before? I got this error when I installed the new version over the stock on my Epic 4G. I had to remove /system/app/Swype.apk AND /system/lib/libswypecore.so. Then Swype Installer ran successfullly. I have the older version running on the Nook, so I'm fine with that for now.

How did you get the older version to install on your Nook?
Because Swype apparently just added support for resolutions over WVGA, it always threw me errors on previous versions because of this.

I searched terms "swype" and "wsvga". It's quite discussed, really.
When I run the beta installer [Ver. 1.1.20186 (12.01)] I get "there was a data error, likely due to a bad network connection. please try again." I uninstalled the installer using TiBu and deleted the download cache and re-downloaded with the same error.
I found this in the swype forums:

Hmm,
What you are describing sounds very odd. First of all gmail is typically apart of the base autnooter. So you shouldn't need to download extra stuff for it to work.
When you say you can't get it to update do you mean you have an older version working? Or you simply can't get email?
If you describe the issue more it might help.

Many thanks to Dizzy's IMEI fix!!!
Great program to get an IMEI number on our NC and allow apps like HBO Go to work.
Great thread (Dizzy's) on this in the Dev forum. It was a little intimidating for this rookie but I figured what the worse that could happen. Took me two tries (cause I had an old Java version) but now I have HBO working, more comfort & knowledge about the NC with ADB, etc.
This forum is fantastic!!!! I knew if I got in trouble there would be help on this forum. Thanks for all you guru's out there who have made this possble.
You're lucky...I can't seem to get it working for the life of me. I altered the framework file using the latest IMEI generator from Dizzy and that worked fine but when I run HBOgo, all I get is the spinning cursor and then an error telling me that "some videos are not available at this time" or something.
I've updated to the latest CM7 release candidate over the weekend hoping that would solve it but nope.
Perhaps my kernel or flash version need updating? I really don't know what the problem is...everything else on the Nook works perfectly.

Have you downloaded the LCD Resolution app? I read a thread here somewhere that said to get that app, then change the density to 160 and check the box that says to do it every time you boot. This makes your market app work a lot better. I was able to get HBO Go from the market after doing this. If it doesn't work for you, I'll post the apk.
