I recently changed by Moto milestone to Galaxy S. the OS bundled with I9000 is 2.2 and no "google voice search", understood there's a 2.2.1 available.
while I try to upgrade the FW via Kies, it popped up with "This version of the device cannot be updated" Current firmware version: PDA:JP8 / PHONE:JP8 / CSC:JP9 (CPW), do you guys have any hints ?
Big clue their is no update for your phones product code ask your network why not .
2.3.3 due for release any day .
2.2.1 can be flashed via Odin or from phone using CWM build your own 2.2.1 in rom kitchen .

1st of all i am new galaxy user. so i am giving you details about my phone
when i tried to update, it said it has already latest version which is
pda jm5 phone jm1 csc jm3 . and it has orange logo on back. i saw on net that uk orange users are getting froyo but still i do not have. now about phone details,
model number gt-i9000
firmware version 2.1 update1
baseband version i9000vbjm1
kerne l version 2.6.29
[email protected] #2
build number eclair.vbjm5
i do not know details of them. my question is, is my firmware official? is my phone is an unlocked version? so that if i can upgrade to official firmware, my set will not locked(like iphone). is my phone rooted? and i live in Bangladesh. so my question is, can i still upgrade through kies in my country(when available)? or i have to do it in manual way? thanks in advance
Hi Everyone,
My first time diving into this forum. Sorry if the answer is out there already, but I couldn't find it
There are just so many threads in here about flashing..
I've had my Galaxy S for a few months now and rooted it with Z4root as soon as I got it. That was easy enough..
What I'm confused about is flashing new kernels to the phone.
As I understand it, these are the details about my phone which I obtained from the "About Phone" menu.
Samsung Galaxy S (Rooted)
Model number: GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband version: I9000 ADJP3
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 (root - SE-S608 # 1)
Build number: FROYO.ADJP6
What do I have to always consider when choosing a kernel or rom?
Is it the current firmware version and the ADJP3part in my case?
For example:
I've been reading loads of websites about flashing firmware and came accross the samfirmware WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm website that lists all the Samsung Galaxy S related firmware.
I think it's pretty good and understand that I should only be looking at the European list in blue as I'm UK based.
Looking down the list I can see:
I9000XXJP3
512.PIT
Version 2.2
2010 August
According to the details I gave above. Is this is the version I currently have installed?
So where can I go from here?.. Can I only install the ones that have XXJP or can I install any of the others?..
Just not sure what to look out for and want to get my flashing adventure off on a good note
My advice would be to read the FAQS on the ROM Kitchin pages then build your own rom .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817703
http://romkitchen.org/sgs/?s=home
XXJP modem and CPW csc should cover all UK networks the rests you pick yourself .

hello,
i saw on tweakers.net that the update for the samsung galaxy s is avaleble.
i got now version 2.2.1 i want to update it to 2.3.3 when i start kies and i connect my phone. it dosnt say there is a update. i saw on the internet that it isnt avaleble in the netherlands. how long i need to wait till i can update my galaxy? i can i do it now. i only want the original updates and no custom roms.
xorium
You will just have to be patient. It was released but then taken down, so just got to wait.
Samsung temporarily pulled the update due to unspecified "issues" so who knows how long you will have to wait.
I'd just download and flash the official update with Odin but that's up to you.
What if I install Galaxy S Gingerbread ROM (XXXJVK) and later I want to update it through Kies with the last version that will be further published by Samsung? Would that be possible or I would need to perform any kind of 'rollback' before update it?
Also, is there an official Galaxy S ROM for 2.3.3 ?
Thank you. New here.

\Kies will only update original firmware .
You will need to roll back to a later firmware and spoof Kies to believe its your original rom to get update .
Also, is there an official Galaxy S ROM for 2.3.3 use JVK or later from samfirmware .

Thanks, JJE.
Hum, not sure now. It seems too much work

greetings,
when I try to update the firmware of my SGS I9000, kies show this message
this version of the device cannot be updated
current firmware version: PDA: JPA / PHONE:JPB / CSC: JPA (XSG)
the current firmware info from the phone
FW version
2.2
baseband version
I9000JXJPB
Kernel Version
2.6.32.9
root (at) SE-S606 #53
build number
FROYO.JPJPA
what does this mean ? do I have the latest official firmware already ?
thanks
Depends upon phone supplier and the latest firmware they have uploaded to Kies .
You have Android/Samsung 2.2 ask your phone provider have they updated to 2.2.1 . They may not have updated and will skip this update as 2.3 may be released soon.

thanks
I am not using kies any more
I flash my phone using ODIN and CWM

it's the best idea
SGS 1 has already 2.3.5 firmware and blazing fast.
why are you stuck in 2.2 and waiting for update through kies as you can do it yourself in few minutes?
Hello is my Samsung Firmware which i installed trough Kies official or not?
It says: Firmware-Version: 2.3.3
I9000XXJVO
2.6.35.7-i9000XXJVO-CL182937
[email protected] #2
Gingerbread.XXJVO
Is that the newest official Version of Gingerbread or just an flashed modded Firmware?? I used spooffw to upgrade the Firmware. What meand XXJVO or 2.6.35-7??
Thank your very much for your answers and sry for my bad german influenced english
If you installed it through kies, then it is official.
BTW, there is a Q&A section...

Wooaaa...not necessarily....not if he used spooffw...he is using a later fw based on the settings chosen in spooffw...but not necessarily the latest official fw available for his device, carrier and region....he has fooled kies into downloading JVO remember.
@ftj3kf3
Firstly - JVO IS official - but its a XEU region (UK) variant
It HAS been supplied via Kies (so its "official" Samsung fw)
However as you are in Germany you presumably had to enter XEU as the product code to fool Kies and get the download.
so yes you are running an official Samsung GB release, but not necessarily the current one for your region and supplier...but don't worry everything is cool, 2.6.35.7-i9000XXJVO-CL182937 [email protected] # is the kernel version....you are just probably ahead of the game for your region, that's all
