Hey guys,
Im having this very very very weird problem, I have a brand new galaxy, and I like the phone alot and everything is working just fine. But I have a little ´´problem´´. Randomly, my phone volume seems to decrease by 2/3, and the volume is very low while playing mp3's (through the speaker). After being called, the volume is normal again, and loud as it should be.
Is this fixable? because else I will take the phone back to the store.
Thanks in advance!
I had that same problem though after flashing it with another rom (darkys) it stopped. Was really worried for a while though hehe.
Maximize your volume under Settings > Sound > Volume. See if it still occurs.
Another rom? Maybe I should try that.

After updating to Froyo, my phone has no sound when playing media files. It is also without system sounds. Any ideas as to what's caused this and how to fix it?
EDIT: So when I have the headphones in, it plays through the speakers. Wtf?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912932
i have a no sound issue as well, newter55 gave me the fix of taking the back cover off and gently pressing down the speaker.
Maybe this will solve your issues as well
did you ever get a fix to this... mine is doing the same
Same issue here with the Samsung/AT&T release of Froyo for Captivate. If I plug in headphones and then disconnect, that fixes the issue.
[edit - RESOLVED!]
I think I may have resolved this issue, hopefully will help others. I use an app ("Profile") to set ring tones and notifications for certain times. In Froyo, there is a new item in the settings menu (Settings-->Sound), top item = "Silent Mode" (at least I think it's new, I don't remember seeing it in 2.1, and definitely did not have this problem in 2.1). I had checked this box, and what I think happened is when my Profile app was either not running or had reverted to system settings, my phone then defaulted to the Froyo silent mode setting.
Might want to check this out instead of the somewhat dubious "remove back cover and press around the speaker" advice I saw when trying to resolve the problem.
froya no sound FIXED
i got this to work for me using the sony erricson x1 go into the settings menu and select sounds in the volume menu , i noticed after installing the latest froyo update my media volume was muted , after increasing media volume all is well
Hi,
a few days ago the volume randomly became UBER low. Soo I thought of it as a problem in the firmware (darky's r4). That rom was kinda rubbish; so instead; I flashed dlev 5.0. Awesome rom by the way. And then, over night, when I woke up again; the volume became really low again.
I have no idea how to fix this, rebooting doesnt seem to help.
Anyone have any ideas?
Assuming you're on a kernel that supports the voodoo sound, you might want to try the voodoo control app (I believe it's in the Market). Once you have it installed, you can put a shortcut on your desktop to the headphone amp widget, and that will let you pull the volume up again.
Not a permanent solution, I admit, but probably quicker than digging down several menu levels.

I plugged in my headphones; and everything is fine.
So it seems like the problem is just with the loudspeaker.
I can't even hear when someone calls
You said you installed a new rom - by any chance, did you restore apps with Tibu? If so, did you restore any system data?
I only ask because if you had restored some system data, it might have restored a bad audio setting that is affecting the external speaker when the headphones aren't plugged in.
I know that as part of the Voodoo sound control, you can tell it to drop the volume level if there is a change in whether the headphones are plugged in or not (as an ear saver or to prevent blaring sound when the headphones become accidentally unplugged).
If you didn't do any restoring, I would just double-check the volume level that is set in the audio menu. If it's all the way up, and you're still having sound issues, then I think that a faulty speaker (like you suggested) is probably the case.

I had this problem starting on darky's rom. Didn't use tibu or any sort of backup software; installed everything fresh and new.
Checked audio levels; and everything is on max.
Where in voodoo do I tell it it lower volume when headphones are plugged in?
Thanks
Er.... the loudspeaker just randomly started working fine again.....
I bet it will become weird in a few minutes though :S

In the voodoo control app, if you have the "map volume keys hack" activated, two settings below that is "jack plug-in safety".
Every kernel supports voodoo sound!

Haw Haw Haw... I gave my phone a good spanking. Seems like something is loose near the back key/search key. A few good hits and the speaker works again.
Ha!

Nothing like a good dose of non-passive hardware reconstruction to get things working again.
Believe it or not this is actually abbery common problem with this phone. The speaker will stop...then you press firmly on the speaker then it starts again...

Hi. I have a big problem.its hard to explain what i did so ill make a chronology:
-My phone was fine,i was happily using cm7 and my ace had no problems at all.
-i love changing roms once a week and i usually tried new roms.
-one day,i noticed my INCALL VOLUME was very LOW.
-My external speaker audio worked very well.
-I decided to try VOLUME +,it didnt seem to work but i left it installed at +4.
-some days after,i started SUDDENLY to hear a buzz from external speaker everytime a sound was played. It feels BOOSTED because the audio quality is still good.
Since then nothing managed to solve this problem. I flashed lots of roms, i uninstalled volume+ and put the settings to 0 again but nothing.
Today i unrooted and flashed stock xwktq with odin but the problem still there. Then i found the secret code (*#*%197328640#*#*) but...in the menu, when i thought i was about to solve the problem..
AUDIO IS LOCKED. Only that setting. I tried another stock, xwkt7 , now it says [5]AUDIO in the secret menu but if i tap there nothing appens.
Then i rooted again, pushed a deodexed servicemenu.apk, flashed sgsii jb but nope, I CANT ENTER IN AUDIO SETTINGS FROM SERVICE MENU. Please help me,i wanted to try this solution before taking my phone to samsung support,i need it hope it is a clear explanation!

UP..really no solution?
Volume+ is an Advance app.... It possess the capability to Distort any Speaker or Headphones foe a short time or Prolonged use or high Frequency may cause the distortion to stay forever... In short your Speaker might be permanently Damaged...

i have not had any issue like this but could you of possibly damaged the speaker some how and that could be why everything is so low.
what rom are you running or are you on stock rooted.
I am stock rooted
after 5-6 reboot sound is back
motox is only 2 months old and barely used
I will see if it comes back and will call motorola if that comes back

I had a similar experience with the Touchless Controls voice. My phone would have normal volumes, but I could never hear what it said back to me. I contacted Moto Support, and they said this is a known issue, and they are looking for a solution. Until then, the support lady said to use the volume rocker to turn the volume down a few times, then turn it back up. I did this, and the readout voice for the Touchless Controls was back to normal volume.
You can try this... but YMMV.

I've had similiar experiences when I was playing music, then the touchless controls would interrupt to read a message. When it was done, the music would come back on, but much quieter than before. It would usually go back to normal volume on the next song or by switching music apps.
When I first got my phone music and youtube videos were really loud with the built in speakers. So much so that I had to turn the volume down a little bit for comfort. Now when I make sound it starts out very loud but quickly softens drastically. Like something is trying to auto normalize the sound to a much lower volume.
What bugs me is it used to work great. I'm on the same firmware version and such that I was on before.
Is anyone else having volume issues with their built in speakers?

I'm experiencing this too. I feel like it was designed this way. But I want to see some documentation.
Maybe you're just adjusting to the volume?? Kind of like when a fast car doesn't feel fast anymore.
Are you on a custom rom?
I'm on Stock ROM.
I know it isn't me just getting used to it. When I play some music it is really loud and vibrates my phone noticeably. After about 1 or 2 seconds though it quiets and my phone stops vibrating as much and I have a hard time discerning voices in the sound.
If I pause the video for a few seconds and start again the same thing happens. really loud then quieting.
If I turn down the video all the way then turn it up all the way fast the same things happens. I can feel the vibrations of the sound then they lessen and quiet down.
Interesting. I tried it this morning after a fresh charge and it works great now. I wonder if previously I was always testing at night when my battery was low. Perhaps this is some kind of built in battery savings scheme? When I was experiencing the issue I verified that Battery Savings mode was turned off. But perhaps this is something that auto happens when the battery is low?
I'll have to try again tonight.
I'm starting to have the same issue. Posting here for any updates, and I'll update as well if I figure out what's going on.
Me to guys....I thought I was going nuts today... Every roms got quiet audio and I'm just like wtf...so I flash stock images and STILL its quiet...I'm just wondering if its some kinda power save feature.
i've been looking through the mixer_paths.xml file to see if i can find headphones and speaker values to increase to increase volume and this mixer_paths file is different than what i'm used to with samsung and LG phones. i'm probably missing some values to see because i normally use 920 text editor but that app currently isnt working with android 5.0. has anyone found the values to change the increase volume?
I have the same issue. If i reboot the phone everything sounds great then shortly after the volume drops and its difficult to hear things. This happens evem during calls while using speaker phone. I've looked in all the settings and can not find anything to do with this. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank goodness I'm not the only one! I have this exact issue as well.
So this actually worked on my N6 maybe it will work for yours. After a reboot problem remains. I applied small pressure evenly to the speakers with my fingers and bam problem gone. I seriously hope we don't have bad hardware. Hope this helps you guys as well.
https://forums.motorola.com/posts/add203215b?commentId=837982 If you see Moto's Official forum lot of other people are having this same Issue
Add me to the list thought I was going crazy too
I'm pretty sure it's a software issue. On mine, the volume does the normalization thing, but if I switch orientations it goes back to full volume before dying down again. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
Same issue here. Thought I was loosing my mind. The volume goes down tremendously after starting music via the speakerphone after about 1 or 2 seconds. I have completely reset my phone and toggled the power saving setting and I'm still having this issue. Getting very annoyed.
Same issue here. My battery was down to 4% and the volume started getting lower some times.
Also it seemed like turning the device (display rotation?, gyro sensor?) had to do with it.
I also hear some noise (crackling) when the phone is at full volume and it's not playing music.

Same here with the normalize issue...tempted to send my nexus 6 back to motorola but it was so hard to get this phone
Cant believe google has yet to address this... I hope its a software fix coming.. I cant even really judge the audio bc i cant play anything at max volume smfh

I think it's a software issue. Whenever I notice the phone's volume is lower than it should be, I press volume up and down repeatedly then it goes back to normal. Gets annoying though.
Anyone found a solution for this or it just is what it is? Also notice the volume increases when I rotate the landscape view..then normalizes lower after a few seconds...
I've hard reset....flashed a fresh copy of 5.0.1 still no solution? Could this be a hardware issue?
