I just got a notification for a new update, so i downloaded it, but after downloading it tells me that it can't validate the package.
Could this be the gingerbread update, and why can't i install it?

Wrong forum (your question has nothing to do with development).
This forum has a search option. Use that and find the answer to your question.
Anyways: using custom rom? -> no official updates. Doubt that it is gingerbread, though.

We all know the Captivate is getting its official 2.2 update in a few months.
My question is, since I rooted my Captivate, will I have to do anything special to update? Or, will I just be able to manually check for updates and It will install automatically from there?

General, actually. My bad.
Just receive notification for an update for flash player. I am running rooted 2.2 stock from rom. Manager. Does updating broke anything?
Depends on how you are rooted the flash/others update breaks some of the root methods
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
From what I have been seeing it breaks the "1 click" type roots you got from installing an app. You can get root back but until a new exploit is found you will have to do it the "hard" way (push custom recovery and then root via update.zip)
This update also enables Exchange Policies, allowing your Exchange server to be set as a Device Admin and force policies down. It is a non-event if you do not link to a corporate email system.
Thanks for the info. But is there any way to stop it poping up every other minute.?

Hello
Iam a new user of this phone, and when i used the phone for the first time it was with a different andriod market than the one i use now. So i want to ask if it was the newest android market and if it was then how do i get it?
This phone is by the way the best !
Best regards

Newest is v3.0.27, it'll auto upgrade if you don't have it, but it can be done manually pretty easily. Just search for the .apk
Thank you very much for the quick answer!
Sorry but what does.apk mean ? I am new on this site
Best regards
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
An .apk file extension denotes an Android Package (APK) file. This file format, a variant of the JAR format, is used for distributing and installing bundled components onto the Android operating system (from wiki)
If you google "3.0.27 apk" and select the apktop.com site, you can download it using the QR code.
Thanks to Rusty! Just installed and it seems better than my old Market!
Thank you a lot !
So that means that i can't install it from the android market?
Best regards

I just got a rooted Atrix 4G which is running 2.2.2 but I can't tell if its stock or not and I want to upgrade to Gingerbread somehow. I don't know what to do exactly in order to have it. So if some who has had the same question about this was able to upgrade to Gingerbread and could help me out that would be great. Also If i need to uproot in order to get it please help me out with that to I looked into aRoot and that seemed a little bit skeptical so just let me know via PM or the thread.
.......really? :|

for starters, go to menu>settings>about phone and see if anything there gives away the state of your rom. also, is your BL unlocked (does it show unlocked on motorola boot animation)?
If your phone has all the blur content and has certain things locked down and such then chances are its stock.
another thing to check is whether or not your system is deodexed as most custom roms are.
I don't know a foolproof way of checking myself.
Alright well I don't think my phone has a custom rom on it but here is what I have just to make sure im right. I do know my phone does not have an unlocked b.l
System Version: 4.1.83MB860.ATT.en.US
Model:MB860
Baseband: N_01.77.15P
Webtop: oshwt_u1_4.257.30
Build number: OLYFR_U4_1.8.3
Let me know if I need anything else. I would take a screenshot but the app doesn't work for some reason.

seems like stock. at any rate, the OTA image will fail to update during the version check if it's not. follow motorola's update instructions here: http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Android_Products/ATRIX-4G_Software_Update_Page

so if I try to update it to gingerbread while my phone is rooted nothing will happen? Or should I unroot it and then update it?

Thread closed. Post in the correct section
If I were to install the leaked update would it render me unable to receive the official one or others in the future? I'm also rooted and know I will need to un freeze the bloat for updates. Does it also remove root and if it does can I re root it with the same method?
