both me and my friend are getting
YouTube "this video cannot be played" on some videos
What is causing this? is there a fix?
I can supply links to a video that doesn't play
Any ideas
Cheers
That may be due to your region..some YouTube videos are not allowed in some countries due to copywrite laws or censorship. If the same thing is happening on two different phones, likely it is not your phone that is the problem.

mostly my friends choice of pop music is not allowed
This is an option that YouTube gives content uploaders when posting videos. It's a specific option that goes some thing like "Disallow viewing content on mobile devices"
The reason this is done is because ads can't be played on Youtube mobile (whether browser or app) so they don't want to give you access to the video. The fact that it's mostly pop music makes sense, because recording labels and such will want to monetize their content, and mobile users represent a revenue loss.
The only way around it is to view the video through your browser while switched to a desktop user-agent.

I told my friend it probably had to do with 'advertising revenue' and 'control'.
Is there an easy way for her to view these videos? (or should i tell her to get a better taste in music )
Like I said, basically the only way is to watch it through "desktop Youtube".
Since we have Flash support, you can download an alternate browser like Dolphin Browser that lets you switch user agents and view the video from the full site.
There are also hacked browser.apk's out there with stuff like built-in user agent switching, 8 tabs etc.
Hope that helped.

Hey guys, If I'm in the wrong area, I apologize.
I was wondering if there was a better youtube app for the HTC Fuze. The native youtube app, and the google youtube app are nice, but they do not play the full range of videos available on youtube, (ex. try looking up the music videos for "What you got" by Colby O'donis, or "Dangerous" by Kardinal Offishall, forgive my taste in music). You will not be able to find the music videos for these songs like you would on a desktop computer.
I've tried Coreplayer, and WVD player, but they either take a really long time searching or there is great difficulty finding videos.
I know this sounds funny but I'm quite surprised that there is difficulty for flash videos on winmo. I have a psp, and the youtube app is amazing (you also have the ability to go to other video hosting websites). Is there a youtube app that is equivalent to a desktop computer or the psp?
Thank you for your time.
ive been a bit dissapionted also in the phone because i tell everyone how much better the touch pro is than the iphone and then it cant do high quality youtube videos. please someone prove me wrong
if you go to the settings icon at the top and hit high quality instead of fast speed they look pretty damn good....
Yeah but if you're running a stock ROM the video skips because it can't process or keep the video and audio in sync..don't know what causes the problem. Not sure if that happens on cooked ROMs though
Have you tried coreplayer 1.3.2 youtube section after pressing views. It has settings out the a**! Hi,Lo,3g,FLV,H264 720p. Beautiful!! Try that if you havent!
But coreplayer is a commercial app, it is not free
btw I tried this software but was unable to make it work for youtube, it never finds anything...

dont know what the problem is but i can find the songs you name just fine. for both songs i get a dozen results. aswel through 3G as wifi. altough i cant select the high quality or fast download option cause there is no option menu anymore in my version of the youtube app (dont know wich version btw) but it was already in my rom
Hi,
I was checking the forum, but found no similar topic, so I opened a new one(bit surprised, that nobody noticed this).
So the problem is, that whenever I play a youtube video, it's bad quality! Or at least not as good as 720p. Of course connected to wifi(high quality automatically chosen).
What I did is, I searched on "Crysis HD", and played the "ultra hd" video. It looked okay.
After that I downloaded JetVD, and downloaded the actual video in 720p.
What a difference!!!
So my question is: whenever I'm on wifi, is it possible to play the youtube video in proper quality?
seach youtube hq
I'm not 100% sure what you mean, I searched youtube HQ on google, on market, and on XDA, but found nothing related.
If you mean turn on the "high quality" in the options while playing, it's done. My question is different.

I had been looking for this too, where can I can such an app
All youtube videos that i play look like the worst quality stretched to fullscreen, it's just horrible, when i select menu-> play high quality. it just keeps loading and never starts playing, not on wifi, not on 3G.

Aye. This is it! So somebody knows how to get around this? Obviously it's not hardware restriction, we just need a proper app for this! Maybe somehow use the youtube player that EVO uses?
Many of the custom roms have the YouTube app swaped for the HD version. You should have a look.

Before I updated to new firmware always had to select "play in high quality" after starting a video but now it does it automatically. Have always had the box ticked.
video set to high quality, the problem is not this.

No, unfortunately it's still not doing the thing I want.
You might not notice, but there is a big difference between youtube 720p(downloaded to PC, and copied to phone), and youtube HD.
I installed the app, but it does nothing, but moves the HD button from the menu to the onscreen interface. HD quality videos are still not even close to 720p.
So I use stock browser/ICS browser+ to surf. And watching embedded YouTube videos within websites is a nightmare. I have STICK IT! App or even YouTube app so I'd have no problem using those but to even get the "share" button accessible I have to click play which causes a big lag and then im frantically trying to click share, which usually doesn't work. If I just let it play and then click fullscreen within the site it lags and usually freezes and blacks out screen and doesn't play
To add, I have sites loaded as "desktop" by default.
Usually what I end up doing is looking at video title and trying to find it myself on the YouTube app.
What are your guys' thoughts on playing embedded YouTube videos? Lately its been so frustrating.
EDIT: I forgot what the final straw was that had me post on here.....after the you tube video freezes or bugs out, the browser bugs and wont load a page until I reboot xoom, even if I end task in manager

Try reinstalling flash on your xoom. Just go to the play store and look up "Flash". You should see something like "Adobe Flash". Uninstall it, and then reinstall it.
Hope that helps.
I have just received my chromecast and it works quite nicely. However some videos cannot be casted from the youtube app on my nexus 7. They are all videos that have been flagged for mature content. For instance some music videos. I get an error saying the video is not available for my tv.
However, I can cast those same videos from my laptop.
Does anyone know whats going on here?

Since Chromecast gets video on its own, there are limits on how the YouTube login gets passed.
Google's support article doesn't seem to mention restrictions on 18+ content, but like I said, what Chromecast can access isn't the same as what a full, normal YouTube login can.

You don't need the App for YouTube to cast to the CCast. Try using the browser and using the Cast button on the Video itself instead of going via the App. This works with both Netflix and YouTube. No need to use Google Cast in a browser or the Android App to send their content to a CCast.
You might have better luck sending the content FROM You Tube than from the App that tells the CCast to go and get that content.Their code is likely to be a bit more up to date on sending than the Apps are.
You say you are casting from a Laptop but did not mention via what method your using so apologies if your already doing it the way I suggested.

I would think an account is an account and the info about that account is stored on the google side. So it should be the same on all devices that use that login.
I would more believe that the player that the Android App sends to retrieve does not have the ability to play 18+ content natively. Or by default has 18+ restrictions set on by default in the app if that was what is going on.

Yeah, I Want to Believe but if the account login seamlessly transferred with the Chromecast handoff somehow, then live events would work, and we wouldn't have those random videos that say "Not available for your TV" (unless perhaps there's some backlog of transcoding required, like when they initially launched the mobile/MP4 site).

On my laptop I am casting directly from the youtube video. I am not casting the tab as I don't have enough CPU.

I think the difference is between how the youtube android app and how youtube on my laptop pass login details. It is the only way the laptop works and the android app doesn't.

Well your account is your account...
Unless your using a different account on the Android App than you are on the Laptop there should be no difference because if Account is important then all anything is telling Yahoo is what the userass is....
It may however be tat the Android app isn't sending or using ANY account at all...
Thats the only way I see account being at fault here.

I agree, I don't believe the youtube app is providing authentication. I am using the same login. I hope they fix this.
I'm sure by now some people are playing around with Chrome Beta on android and it's Chromecast function.. if not, within Chrome Beta's Url type
chrome://flags/#enable-cast
Enable the option and restart browser for change to update. Haven't seen any posts on this yet...but not why I'm posting it now.. I've followed the instructions to a T. However, the Chromecast icon never appears in any video... can someone post a link to a video that know works so I can figure out if it's me or just the ultra beta nature of it?

I am yet to successfully stream a video using Chrome Beta. Chromecast icon only shows while in fullscreen video mode, it connects, but doesn't stream. Maybe others had more luck with it.
Huh, thanks for the info... in the videos I've seen and or articles I've read no one bothered to mention that..
Though I thought I saw a YouTube of the icon appearing in chrome while viewing video while it was embedded....It was late and I was tired..could be wrong.
Google admits it to being pre-beta so I'm not complaining...just would like one working example...
I've gotten it to work several times on my Nexus 10, but it can be a little finicky. Confirmed on only showing the icon in full screen mode.

I had to remove the Beta and go back to the original because the Beta for some reason wouldn't work with Plex.tv
Works great for me but sadly it doesn't support flash. But playing mobile videos it works great. I used it the other to watch Naruto.

chrome beta update 3/12/14
Since the update Wednesday 3/12/14 I have been able to stream some web videos from my phone. Videos that have commercials at the beginning only stream the commercial but not the video content itself, it seems to crash and then prevent the video from playing have to close tab and enter the web site again. A video that has no commercials and goes straight to content loads and streams fine. It appears that streaming resets the video to the start when you switch over to Chromecast. This will work great once all bugs get fixed and websites use HTML5
