So my new NC is autonootered and I wanted to add an alternate launcher.
I'm used to zeam on my phone (I really like dxtop but it doesn't run well on my original Droid), so that was my first choice. It didn't show up in Market on my NC. I figured it might need at least Froyo and I'm just rooted Eclair, so I went with my second choice, GO Launcher EX.
But I see LOTS of folks running autonootered Eclaire and Zeam. Are you all sideloading it?
Zeam definitely shows up in the market for me. Can't help with why it didn't show up for you, but I did not sideload. I'm on Autonootered Stock 1.1.

Zeam Launcher can be downloaded in the Android Apps and Games section of xda.
Sent from my QWERTY-ified, Gingerbread-less Nexus S 4g.
Mystery solved.
Current Zeam in the Marketplace is Froyo or later only.
Zeam 2.8.8 or earlier will work for Eclair.
Zeam 2.8.8 apk available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664149

I'm not able to post in the development forum in order to reply to the original post, so I figured I would post here.
If I use auto-nooter (NC version 1.1.0), would I be able to read my books using the stock B&N app? Or would I be forced to use the nook app from the Android Market?
I've been using Honeycomb off of my SD card, but I dont want to have to restart my NC everytime I want to check my gmail or something like that.
I want to use auto-nooter because its easy and I dont have a lot of adb experience. I was lucky to get my NC recognized on my computer via USB when installing the Android Market on Honeycomb.
Would my home screen look like the default homescreen or would it look like an android homescreen? Would all my apps, etc. be in the "extras" folder?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Yes. That is what Autonooter is designed to do. Give you root/busybox etc on the B&N stock ROM. I've used it on 1.0.0, 1.0.1 and now 1.1.0. I've loaded a different Home screen launcher (Zeam) in order to get more out of the homescreens as the stock B&N is locked for purchased media only. Zeam gives a fairly large dock to hold a bunch of apps. Otherwise opening the app drawer or "extras" after hitting the softkey should get you to the installed applications.
The stock library and reader apps work fine. As a bonus, you can add the Amazon Kindle for Android app and directly read .mobi's as well. Also means that you can use the Amazon store.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for.
Can you link me to the version of autonooter you used for your NC version 1.1.0? Just want to make sure I'm using the correct one.
Also, is it possible to completely unroot the NC and bring it back to full factory settings if anything ever happens?
Thanks!
Yes and yes. See the threads in the dev forum. You want AutoNooter 3.0.0

@pman555
To restore to stock there are a couple threads that cover that with a couple different methods:
1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945838
Read through each thread and figure out which one you feel more comfortable with.
AN3 link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942424
The above link is actually a re-worked AN2.X for 1.0.1 which was re-worked to work with 1.1.0. It is not an "Official" Autonooter team release. An official AN3 release is pending and when that happens you can evaluate it as you would any other piece of software.
Hope that helps!

Great, thanks a lot!
Another question, i just downloaded angry birds seasons. I played it but it isn't showing up in the extras.
Where would i be able to find it?
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
Reboot for it to show up under Extras. Otherwise, if you're using an alternate launcher, it should show up immediately in the app drawer.

I suspect that it's not going to be fixed in the BN ROM until BN opens their own app store.
The default launcher sucks, anyway. LauncherPRO & ADW are available from the Market, and seem to be the most popular among NC users (from what I can tell, anyway).
This may seem odd, but I have the opposite question... Can I use the Nook app from the Market with Autonooter? I've got everything setup, and the Nook app doesn't seem to work (I wanted to use it so I could use the Nook account my wife and I share, but still have the device registered to myself). Thanks!
Hey guys,
Currently running CM7 RC4 on my emmc. I was thinking about going back to the stock firmware, because I'd like to use the B&N functionality in store.
I have seen a lot of nice themes on rooted stock. I was wondering if anyone could point me to how people go about adding a custom launcher and homescreen? Is it as simple as installing ADW or Launcher Pro?
I've noticed that a lot of the time they are able to keep the stock pull up menu on the bottom of the screen, with a appdrawer launcher immediately above it.
Thanks for the input!

I've read a number of posts indicating no success with in store reading with a rooted nook, stock or otherwise. It appears it may only work with a non-rooted stock OS nook.

Not true. There is a thread here that shows how to do it with BN 1.1.0 and rooted with auto-nooter 3.0
Hmm...browsing the forum it appears that a lot of rooted users do indeed still have access to in store features. Therefore, my original question is still pertinent for me. But thank you for the warning, I appreciate it!

I can do everything in the store with my autonooted 3.0 Nook Color, including 1 hour in-store browsing of titles.
I've got all sorts of stuff installed on my NC, too.

Pretty much. What I did is basically what's outlinked on the nookdevs site:
1) Installed custom launcher of my choice (ADW originally but switched to LP because it's so much smoother/quicker for me.)
2) Used home switcher to set soft keys as the default launcher
3) In Soft keys set it so your custom launcher is the default launcher. (I also have SK setup so one click gives me "home" and two gives me the soft keys.)
The stock pull up menu is still there and works for accessing the stock B&N stuff, but for the most part it looks and works like a normal android device.
As for the in-store stuff. It sounds like the problem is with B&N still having some issues with in-store setup to support the NC at some stores as people have also been reporting the same problems with stock non-rooted NC's.
I use Zeam, without softkeys, as the stock notification bar has all of that functionality.
Zeam is a tiny bit buggy on the NC though. Anyone know how to set a different launcher as default?
Install another home launcher and home switcher. Hit the N button and it should ask which launcher to start with. Make sure you check the box so it will set that as the default launcher and launch the one you want to be your default.

Hello!
I've been using GO Launcher EX with custom ROMs (Floyo 0.20, 0.25, 0.30 and FroyoBread now) and it never did anything like that on my X8, it's "laggier" than the others, but it's okay.
Did you get it from the real android market? You said that you like their themes... maybe it's, somehow, related to theme you've downloaded and installed?
See you, and good luck with it!
Personally I love GO Launcher, and have never had any problems with it at all. Barely any lag either, but I will investigate Zeam.
There will be a bunch of files (cache, settings, etc.) created on the SD card from GO. You could uninstall it, clear these out, reboot your phone and then reinstall it.
Might solve your problem? Find it does for other apps (as it forces it to gather new data)
P.S. You could have a look on the dev site for help, or even raise a bug: http://golauncher.goforandroid.com/
@Striderzin yes i have download from real android market but not themes in that period of time when i head this problem. I will try once more and0 see what will hapen.
@SirMikey hmm i didnt notice that launcher makes its own folders on sd card thx i will delete them.
I am using unrooted 2.1 zeam launcher works only 2.2 and above -.-
when i installed Go LauncherEX, I stopped receiving SMS on my Stock 2.1 ROM, i don't know if it was GL EX or if it was coincidence.
But i don't like the Go LauncherEX, just try LauncherPRO, use only one homescreen, disable the homescreen caching, use only one dock page, do not use a lot of widgets, and with this, LauncherPRO will only use about 7MB of RAM, and it will be very smooth too.
I have installed version 2.1 and downloaded a few different app launchers and they all work. My problem is defining a home app icon that will take me to the B&N app launcher. In Bokbokan's HD CM10/10.1 work, he has done that and I would like to emulate the same thing. Is there a way to do that without rooting my device?

Yes there is. Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread and read the section on universal root, under the show content second paragraph. You do not have to be rooted to do this. You just need anycut installed. Flash my extras zip and you will get it. Anycut is not on the Play Store anymore so that is how you can get it. Some launchers, like ADW, have that feature built in and don't need anycut.

Go to Google Play and download a launcher switcher program. Place it on your home screen. That will allow you to choose the laucher you want to use. On the Nook HD, it should be the laucher that is named Home.
Let me know if that works for you.
thank you
Thank you leapinlar for the info. I had adw launcher installed and was eventually able to find the activity section and enabled a Home icon on the adw desktlp.
I'm in the market for a new launcher. I've used the Go Launcher for years and it's been a great launcher, but the past several updates have gotten more and more resource heavy. It's a great launcher on a newer tablet, but not so much on an old workhorse like my Nook HD+. It would be great if I could just find an older version of Go, but I can only find the newest version on the Play Store. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good, lightweight launcher I can try on my old tablet?
Thanks.

FWIW, I've been using Nova Launcher on my HD+ for several years and am very happy with it.
Thanks for your reply. I had thought of looking for an older version of GO, but the problem with that is that then it's always going to want to update. I too have been running Nova Launcher for the past few days and it seems much smoother.

I second the Nova Launcher which runs great on my even more ancient Nook Tablet.
I have a number of apps "frozen" and you should not discount that as a possible "solution". Just access the PlayStore on your tablet and go to "My Apps". Selecting an app you are taken to its page and in the upper right corner are 3 dots. They access a checkbox for "autoupdate". You can uncheck this and the app will no longer autoupdate. The trick is to do this before you replace the newer version with an older version. You get reminders of updates available from the PlayStore but it will never update those apps in the background without your approval.
Also, a few apps like ES File Explorer (talk about bloatware on the newer versions!) have a selection in Settings to check for updates. That also needs to be unchecked. So maybe look at that with Wi-Fi off at first.
