Hey, since I'm a newb to the forums I couldn't post my question in development section. I want to try the MIUI on my Hero but from what I read it's still in development to become a ROM for the Hero. Is that correct? Those download links that they posted (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858935), can I use the mdpi and the posted ROM to use on my Hero???
Thanks for the reply.
edit: I have cdma hero
Yes lol but its still in dev and if u have a cdma hero yes if a GSM then no I wouldn't think so and our devices r mdpi

Yea I have cdma hero. thanks. how do I put it together to get work? In otherwords how do I use the rom with the mdpi???
Haha no drakko1980 and I think a couple others r porting it to our heros miui is for high Res devices like evo desire HD nexus s ect there doing all the hard work getting that on Our mdpi hero since we r not a High Res phone all u would do is flash the .zip in recovery with gapps and whatever else but till there's a download link haha its not out

there is basically no chance of getting MIUI on our heros. its rather annoying because, like you and i, many MANY people want this rom. the only reasonable way of getting it is to upgrade, which i hope to do soon, JUST for that rom.
um, back to the point, we arent getting this rom ported to the hero because the rom was built for a newer processor. i dont know the difference between the heros, and say, the evos processor, but the evo is a generation/version up from the hero, therefore a better device. and the MIUI rom is built for many devices(like the evo), all with that type of processor. so to get that ported to our heros would be a huge amount of work, and is basically impossible since the MIUI source isnt open, meaning that random people cant just go in and make things work if they need to. also, people have contacted the MIUI devs, asking if it can ported to older processors, and they have said no. so we have very little chance of getting it.
Damn wtf like that's a heart breaker then what r these devs doing I remember the miui post way back n December and somewhere I thought I read that It wasn't gonna happen ya when I put miui on my bros evo I fell n love with it

[[sad face]] I'm sittin here tryin to flash the .zip file and I got a (Status 0) error
Haha don't flash the .zip the rom isn't n working order I would stick with asop cm7 till something new comes our way

Until there is a working MIUI rom, if ever, use jasonevil's Orion theme for cm7.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Ginger-on-Hero action here!
Hahaha ya I'm on that theme but I mean compaired to real miui it will never b the same
And anyone know why or well I haven't heard anything about 3.0 coming out way ya I know our phones lag the specs of this new crazy phones but I mean still u would think somehow it would happen I'm pretty sure a couple lower spec phones like rs have a port I know evos have a barly working port but I mean if we don't get miui ever or 3.0 idk whats left for our heros lucky I've loved all of asops work so I have always been happy with the hero but as a phone there was only so much we could and can do I guess

Sadly though, it is probably the closest we're going to get to MIUI w/ our phones.

im updating blue echo and red dawn on a regular basis. maybe working on a new rom with a few guys from this site.
I just got done with Dirteh South - Fast Dubz. There are no real themes built in but it's mostly stock without bloat, overclocked, and fast.
I can't wait to see a froyo with sense.always love using sense. Just smooth and simple.

I can't wait! I love the AOSP ROM's but am excited to see what you come up with for this new ROM!
all ya really need is dd2.7 or CM6
not if you want sense lol, dd2.7 and cm6 are plain jane. i love um, but some are waiting for a sense bases 2.2 to come out...
most devs have moved on to the evo or the epic..the hero won't get near as many updates as it once had. ive tried a few roms including the froyo beta and i always end up back on the stock rooted sprint rom...with my own touches to it of course!
We've still got some dev's around. Evo gets their 2.2 update soon so out there will be a copy of 2.2 with sense in it floating around, doubt it will be long before someone figures out how to port it over to our hero's.

No fixxxer no nerve touched. Let's see since evo came out....hmmm things that have come out...semi working froyo. Battery percentage mod. Overclock and under volt. Multiple roms. Battery tweaks. rooted 2.1. Plus many other mods and tweaks. Also many new users that have added to the hero. As far as I've seen this place is just as active as before. Its just since cdmahero got its own portal that its spread out a bit. There is less complaining (mainly cause u were gone) and most the convos r within threads that u prob don't visit. Plus lots of dev work is done via gtalk or irc and then released here. BTW who really goes to ppcgeeks.

Hello everyone.
I had a quick question i was hoping for some feedback on. My girlfriend is using a HTC hero CDMA as her cell phone. It is currently running 1.5 and it is abysmally slow and unwieldy. I told her I would try to get her fixed up with a nice custom ROM. I am familiar with the entire rooting/flashing/recovery process so I don't need any help there. All I need to know is, what do you consider to be the best daily driver 2.2 ROM there is right now. I won't be fidgeting and flashing ROMs on her phone every 4 days like I do with my phone. I would just like to find a functional 2.2 and load that up for her and call it a day. Opinions are immensely appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Either CM or AOSP.
Those are the only fully functioning 2.2 ROMs currently.
My current setup is:
CM-Nightly-166 ( http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=heroc )
GAPPS ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880787 )
Use BatteryTweak from Deca's thread or SetCPU to overclock CPU. May have to experiment with speeds that your phone can handle.
Deca's Kernal ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756774 )
AOSP. Plain and simple. It'll run fast. Won't need any tweaking. She won't be able to mess anything up.

I would have to say cm. Aosp just lacks functionality and customization that someone who doesn't really care for linpack scores would find quite useful. Aosp is stripped down to the bare bones of android to squeeze every drop of speed. I think your lady would appreciate cyanogen more than she would aosp.
-----

It comes down to features vs. speed, really.
-If she likes to sit and mess with features and customization all day, then CM6 is the way to go.
-If she just wants something that works and is fast, aospMod is the way to go.
Personally, I liked the features of CM6, but after using both I went with aospMod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782320

FLAMED. no just messing with you. If you think she would like a themed STABLE 2.2, chack out the "mau5" rom by decad3nce and the themed roms (there's 4 of them) by jaybob413. They are a little more upstream than CM6.1 stable and have some nice tweaks built in
I would recomend aosp 0.9.8 .............works great for me..........very fast
Vibrant user here. My girlfriend has a hero as well.. I managed to get super user permissions.. But every time i try to flash a rom.. it gives me an error..
I an unable to flash anything through recovery.

There are quite a few themes for aosp now and it is way customizable if you put launcher pro on her phone. I never liked the stock launcher.

Agreed. But we are not talking themes, we're just talking stock versions. Stock cm is far more customizable than aosp is. Also, cm has just as many, if not more, themes available for it. As an aside, cm doesn't use the stock launcher either. It uses ADW.

There us a hero cdma and a hero gsm. Make sure which one you are using. This is the cdma version forum here. Ultimately, if you have su, then I suggest just using rom manager to choose, download, and install. Helps to ensure no mistakes

I dont agree with u m8
this phone that u have is one of the finest in the world,,,, by buying it u joined a 10 million other people
there is nothing in ur previous phone exceeds this one. having said that, the gps sensor in this device is crap comparing with others. many intellectual devs tried to solve its issues, with no complete success (hardware issues),,,,other than this u can enjoy customising it completely
have a look on the devs section and c how many roms and devs has been developing are working on it.
I agree that the default os is laggy,,,, but this phone is blessed with plenty of devs.
if and only if the gps is better it could outsell the Ithing
with time, ull c that u made a nice choice

Yeah I know how many devs are working with it and I didn't mean "default" OS in any way. Seriously, popular roms these day (Doc's and Darky's) can't even beat CM-enabled phone like N1 or Desire in term of performance/smoothness.
But you're right, only time will tell.
Guys,
Is there any new ROM's out with GB on them? Because I say the TastyGinger for the GSM one, and I was wondering if there were any similar to that. A 2.2 ROM would also be good, but specialized for the Hero. My CM6 doesnt cut it anymore, it lags, and the Stock 2.1 is glitchy (some lag, apps not showing, memory leak). A sense based 2.2 or 2.3 ROM (if it's out there) would be the best. Thanks for replying

There is only ONE gingerbread ROM for the CDMA Hero. Here it is

Sense ROMs withs 2.3 do not exist AFAIK. For the CDMA Hero, nfinitefx, beezy420 and others have worked on a 2.2 Sense ROM but I don't think it ever reached a "final," or stable release. Sense on our phones is pretty much limited to 2.1.

Oh my God!!! I was going to say some really f'ed ups stuff (not in a rude or bad way) but I had an appifiny. If ICS is slimmed down just right then throw Sense 3.5 or as its known Sense Zero which is a newer lighter version of HTC sense made for the HTC Explorer which has almost the same specs as the Hero the i cant see why we cant have ICS with HTC Sense.
But yes lets get a good functional ICS first, then we deal with the rest.
Anything is possible. . .
Want a true answer to this? No you won't see it. Sorry. ICS is a completely different monster and is also a big build in itself. Throw Sense on top on that..... Sense lite or not, and it's still too big for our phone. IF I see any way for it to be done I will do my best and try but highly unlikely. CM's even starting to drop development for us older phones.
Yeah I tried and went down in complete flames. The zips for ics sense are way over 100mb. I'm sure it could be done, but would require more work than it would probably be worth. We've got plenty to work with now anyways
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
It's why DX had to be 2.3.7 also. It's like Sense in some ways and I would have loved to use ICS as the base for it but can't. It could be possible one day. But personally I wouldn't count on it. Google made ICS a game changer. Meaning it changed a lot of how they did things in Froyo and Gingerbread. We're even lucky to have it booting on this old thing. Some phone forums don't even have what we do thanks to Jaybob the mean lean debugging machine. He's still working hard at it. I'm not much help for him though as it's beyond me at the moment so he's been a one-man band at this.
