[Bootanimation][Updated] Small, simple, smooth, wp7 style android HD2 bootanimation

Hi everyone
I have the European version of HD2. I use on it android system without ext partition for a fast response (for example: no delay when waking up) - I use only app2sd. Before flashing a rom, I remove from them all useless programs (unused by me) to get more space.
The bootanimation is big too. I don't want removed it completely. To get more space, I created my own animation, which is much smaller. Animation is inspired by the wp7 bootanimation, and has another advantage: Because that the frames are small, the first loop is played without delay when system loading frames (almost without delay).
I would like to share it with you - maybe someone will like it.

I prepared few color variants. Thanks Drew99 for the idea. The green HTC with cyan dots is best for me

How to install with root explorer: (Based on TheSkepticalGuy's instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12880922&postcount=1)
1. Clear the file name - rename the file from a bootanimation_something.zip to bootanimation.zip
2. Copy bootanimation.zip to your SD Card
3. Move it to /system/media/ or /data/local/ or in Desire/Sense base phones to /system/customize/resource/ and replace existing one using root explorer.
4. Reboot and Enjoy
All files tested on my phone

To me, this animation is almost perfect - when I start phone it looks clean and professional
I spent some time doing it. Nice to see that someone is interested
Later wants to make small changes in animation of moving points. Maybe I make change the inscription to Android. For me the priority is size.
Maybe someone has some suggestions.

use root explorer, or do it on your pc
locate to system/media and replace bootanimation.zip

I was just wondering, before it got into your animation, it shows a white screen with green HTC words on it, subsequently followed by black screen with the words HTC, is there any way to remove it?

I think this is a problem with the bootscreen (only htc on black or white screen) before bootanimation. Or with the transition between the bootscreen and bootanimation. I don't think this comes from the animation. I just made the animation, not bootscreen before.
Do you have this problem with a different animation?

I'm very sure it has nothing to do with your animation, your animation is good! I think it comes with the HD 2 startup!

Gonna try the Cyan animation now. At least the boot animations of WP7 are quite nice!

Nice! I like this logo. I just wonder where to put the flying points. On logos reflection? Or under the reflection? What color? White?

Great Job! The bootanimation is light weight and it seems to boot faster into the ROM. The color distortion before entering bootanimation is the hd2 thing not the bootanimation. After rename it to bootanimation.zip you do not need to change permission using rootexplorer. At first load will take a little time to load, on second reboot the bootanimation is settled and everything went smoothly.
P.S. At first, I was moving the old bootanimation.zip to another SD folder but it disappear on me. I put it in SD but it said not enough space when i got over 2Gb in there and it just disappear. I couldn't find it anymore. Lol.

You can make green progress bar under the logo (like in Win7 for example )

DO NOT USE THIS. It is complete and utter rubbish.
1. The first huge issue is that this is 20MB. This is totally RIDICULOUS.
2. Whoever made this has no idea about graphics. They have tried to increase the quality of image files which are already in a lossy format. The end result is that the quality of the image has not improved but the filesize is 10 x what it should be. This boot animation is enormous.
3. When this actually boots, the animation has a white corrupted border which is a result of the editing which was done on the files.

Attached to this post is the stock bootanimation.zip. It does not have the corrupted borders, is of a better quality and is only 1.8MB in size.

Yea? What was the source of this file and please explain how you managed to up-scale a lossy format image and increase the quality. This is impossible.
The only other ICS tablet with a resolution higher than the Xoom is the transformer prime, which does not have this animation, so where exactly did this "HD" version come from?

honestly i havent actually examined very many of the custom xoom specific animations that people have been releasing but the bottom line is that since day 1 the formatting for animations on this device has been terribly off. since the original honeycomb animation just so happened to scale properly (yet still had poor clarity and a fair sized border cut off that didnt show) i think these are the specs that people have been using for their custom stuff.
It took me maany hours to actually discover the exact specs for a proper animation that isnt 50 megs, runs at 5 frames a second, and causes bootloops. ill do my howto post very soon and we will see what community artists can do then!

Then people need to go find ones that work. Sardo above posted a link to one that works with none of those problems - it's 10MB. We've been making Xoom animations that are much smaller (maybe 7MB) and work fine without boot loops for the better part 6-8 months. And quite honestly, the majority I've found all over the net are decent sizes with no reboot issues.
I can honestly say I've never seen one that is 50MB short of one I was testing to see if the device had a limit to the number of pictures (1801 and it still worked) or file size (254MB - it still worked).
The key is the trade off between file size and resolution size. The Xoom wants to show it at 1280x800, but I've made the images 960x600 (gotta keep the proportions the same) and left the desc.txt file using the 1280x800 and it gets sized up with a satisfactory amount of loss of image quality for the trade off. This lowers the file size a decent amount, and you can make them smaller yet by using jpg files instead of pngs, but again, you lose a bit of quality. You just have to figure out a good middle ground.

The original Google tablet 3.0 reference spec showcased by the Xoom utilized a screen canvas area of 1408x880. This is because Honeycomb utilized a static navbar bottom in both landscape and portrait mode that were independent of the main 1280x800 userspace frame:
1440 length allows for two 64px wide navbars while 880 height allows for two 40px navbars. This is to accomodate the device orientation in any of the four directions, each with its own bar.
1408 - 64 - 64 = 1280
880 - 40 - 40 = 800
This is important because in order for the animation to display as intended without software scaling, each frame must be 1408x880 and the images must retain those 4 borders mentioned above. this 'frame' will be clipped by the animation handler during play and their contents will not be visible, resulting in a perfect 1280x800 non scaled sequence.
If the animation simply must be smaller, the frames can be scaled down but must retain the same aspect ratio along with the same deadspace borders and the desc.txt must still stay 1408 880. As already mentioned, using jpegs will reduce zip size quite a bit. Also, keep the framerate at 24.
Let me have a go using my method with the same sequence and we'll see which is better.

when fish and i were cranking out bootanimations for honeycomb, it was a lot of trial and error. im no developer and know squat about programming code, so it was a lot of blackscreens and boot loops until i found something that worked.

Oh I think anyone who is putting art out there is doing good work. I didnt mean to sound like I was being critical or anything but I think it did come off that way, and for that I'm sorry.
Here's my take on the ICS animation using the Xoom's spec. A bit under 4 megs.
For some reason it was bootlooping from doing the import with boot changer app. I had to do a full wipe before it would start properly (including dalvik). I suspect it to be a bug with my app.

How is this HD as compared to the boot animation that came with the ICS update to the Xoom? Is your gif just a representation? Or is it the size of your "HD" animation, if that is the case, wouldn't it be upscaled to fit the screen and look blurry like the other one?

anyone has the Smaller version??

When I try to move this to system/media I don't have enough space. Only about 10mb available. Not sure what I can remove if anything. There is a video director and an audio directory as well under system/media. The video directory has some mp4 vids in it. AndroidinSpace, DIsco, and Sunset... Not sure what these are.

So since OP never answered, I downloaded and unzipped the file images are 960x540 in image size, so these are most definetly not "HD" like the OP claims them to be. They will be the same fuzzy boot animation we already have that came with ICS update to the Xoom.

is there proof a larger resolution version exists?

The boot animation in EOS is only 1.7 mb and this is 19 mb and there is no space is it possible to make it smaller?

By the way you can increase the size of system partition by deleting some unnecessary files like video folder in \system\media
also if you are not using 3G model of Xoom, you can delete Ringtones folder in \system\media\audio
By doing these steps, you will free about 10 mb from system memory

Not to my knowledge, which is why I found this thread to be misleading. The xoom screen is 1280x800 so anything smaller doesn't seem to fit the "HD" bill. This is the same boot animation that comes on the ICS update for the xoom, so why we would need to download it again is beyond me.

Yes it is 960x540 but not like fuzzy boot animation that came with ICS update to the Xoom.. Just install it to your Xoom and you will see the difference (better to make comparison between 2 Xooms running these boot animations).. It is much much better than that one coming with official ICS..

Unless I missed the boat by a long shot, 3G/4G doesn't have stock ICS and our options are third party, so this is useful.

a hd ics animation originally rendered for the xoom spec does not exist. The largest we have seen circulating was formatted for the tab 10.1 and I have a hunch this too was just another upscale of a smaller animation (this time from the gnex). the resolutions of the files (even the original xoom honeycomb animation) are not formatted properly for the device display and are upscaled by the hardware to fill the screen.
as i'd promised in a prior thread, I will post a full on breakdown of the xoom boot animation spec with the proper res formatting, a full desc.txt breakdown, and some other goodies. stay tuned.

[BOOTANIMATION] -- Assassin's Creed Killer Boot Animation -- by Camotec

Hi Guys/Gals,
ABOUT:
Ok like many people out there, I am an Assassin's Creed nut so I decided to make a boot animation for my android.
I did this using the stock ICS boot animation as a backdrop with a blood red hue. and then blurred it out to make it look slightly out of focus. I then created an Assassin's Creed Logo in 3D and then gave it a dirty crystal look so the blood red backdrop shows through a little. I made it only spin once because I didn't want a tacky unfinished look (animation stopping halfway through etc.). and on top of that long animations only slow down the boot time of a fast device. I added a delay of a second on the end to just show the logo on a black background while the system loads.

INSTALL INSTUCTIONS:
It is built for the HTC Vivid/Raider/Velocity at a res of 540x960 however I am led to believe it will work on any device.
- Download the Boot Animation
- Rename the Boot Animation to bootanimation.zip or Telstra_bootanimation.zip (if you are running the Stock Telstra Rom on a rooted phone).
- Use ADB or a GUI app like Droid Explorer to copy the file over the existing bootanimation.zip and then reboot the device.
- Enjoy.
FINAL WORDS:
Boot animations take time to create (when your not just splitting up frames of a video etc).

I found an image of the assassin's creed logo, I then traced the outline and turned it into a path (shape) and then imported into Blender (3D Program to extrude and bevel and then exported back out to Photoshop for the final animation work. take a little time but it plays well with the ICS animation in the background.

(Z'S BOOT ANIMATION VIDEO IS DIFFERENT AND SO IS THE BOOT ANIMATION) (I AM TOO LAZY TO CREATE A GIF PREVIEW FOR Z OR ZR BECAUSE THERE IS SIMILAR THREAD BY ME FOR Z1,Z AND ZR IN THE CORRESPONDING DEVICE THREADS), ALSO, IN ORDER TO CUT OUT THE FILE SIZE, THE PREVIEW GIF IS COMPOSED IN LOW QUALITY AND LOW FRAME RATE ,BUT THE ORIGINAL BOOT ANIMATION IS HD QUALITY.
I have spend a lot of hours to grab frames (using VLC and command line) converting the frames to correct frame size and file size (using Able batch converter and XnShell) editing configuration file (using notepad ++) and then creating boot animation (using boot animation factory and winrar) and then checking various combinations using my c6903 ( rebooted more than 20 times including few boot loops and stuck in boot animation), this boot animation is a perfect combination of speed ,quality and style.

Great boot animation! Just one small request, it's it possible that the "sony make believe" logo stays on until start?

Very very good. I like it a lot. And yes, that is the only thing that is missing : the SONY logo to stay until start ( about 10 seconds on my phone).

Thats a thing happens if you have a lot of apps, ie your phone just need more time to boot. Well ,it depends on the amount of tweeks,apps etc which you have in it. If u want to change the time of the boot animation ( faster or slower) you can adjust the frame rates/second, i use it with 27fps/sec. ( find its value in desc.txt file inside the bootanimation zip. Its like "1080 1920 27 " just change it (27 only) to lower values if you need it to be lengthy, and higher values if it need to be short, ie 25 will make the boot animation stay long, while 28 will end it in much shorter time) any thing above 22fps will be ok, but anything above 30 will be like ff. ( nb :- the actual video is 24-26 fps on avg).
If you edit that file, and replace it into boot animation zip, just be noted to select " compression ratio" as" store" in winrar or what ever program you use to do decompression/ compression, if you dont do that the bootanimation will not work.

The animation is cool,but i dont thnik it is fitting as a bootanimation for sonys Flagship this sholud be something aggresive

Not bad, very good job, but if you reduce the fps to 25, would be much better, going too fast, +100
