When I plug my charger into my Nook Color there is a "U" shaped light on the adapter that changes color's depending on what it is doing. For the past 2 months the light is either yellow (meaning it is charging) or Green (meaning it is fully charged) ... this week I started to get a third color RED.
If I jiggle the adapter plug the light will go back to yellow (the charging color).
What does the red color mean ??? and why would it go away if I jiggle the plug ?
Thanks for any insight.

Well mine never had red until last week. Now I see the big "U" as RED every day.
Anyone else?
It can't charge.
When my cable went red, I had to take it to the store. It might be a defective cable.
It usually means "I'm trying to charge but it isn't working!"
hmm, mine has always had the red. actually it's kind of dark yellow on one end and then blends into a kind of darker orange on the other end.
Just plain green when it's charged.

Ditto. Should it be all orange?
I work with Nook Color displays and red usually means the cable has been stressed and will fail to charge. At that point, I replace it. The connector on the Nook Color cable is fairly fragile and breaks frequently in stores.
Red just means the battery is too low to turn the thing on or extremely low. Yellow means charging. Green is good to go.

O and the U shape is really an n. Like the home button, the nook symbol, an n.

The only LED I ever really noticed on my Hima was the blue one telling me BT was on or off. I know the device has a green, yellow and red LED on the opposite side that can either burn or flash, but don't ask me why. Neither do I know if the flashing rate of the blue LED might tell me something.
Last week when my battery was just about 99.9% drained and my Hima started to behave strange, I noticed that on external power the red LED burned constantly. And when I notice something like that, it's probably because I've never seen it before.
http://michael-channon.spaces.live...._c=BlogPart&partqs=cat=Hermes+Charging+Issues helped me out.
But I would love to know the exact meaning of all LED colours and blinking rates.
all the Leds's Rate are in the Book that comes with it
Thanks, but as I told before I bought 2 Hima's with broken screens years ago, under those conditions it's very rare to get anything but the dead device itself.
The service manual only tells me that a fast flashing yellow LED means battery is too warm (>35C) or too cold (<0C) to charge.
hmmz..u r rite..its unpredictable..any way i'll see what i can find
What I can see, it's blinking green on normal operation, lighting yellow on charging, blinking red on missed calls and lighting red on too low voltage...
Mine never blinks green. Lighting green tells me charging reached 100%.
Could blinking green mean GPRS or IR on?
Anyone ever seen blinking yellow?
I hope curiosity only kills cats ;-)
I guessed the lighting red :-(
Mine blinking green when it is in normal operation.
Yellow on charging
Red when there is misscall or message because I set to give LED sign
> Green for normal - with carrier signal operation and Fully charged while still plugged into wallsocket
> Yellow for Charging
> Red - missed calls/poor elec current while being charged/very low battery
@Maggy, there is a tweak on how to permanently disable blinking lite even during normal operation. could it be possible that ur units have are tweaked like such?

Not that I can remember, but I'm tweaking all the time. Aren't we all?
;-)
how come on my XDA my colors are
Yellow=Normal Operation
ORANGE=Charging
Red=Low batt
May be your led is expired Yellow and Orange is slighly different, you lose green color I think every body mentioned yellow in here is little bit mix with orange color
Or some of us are more colour blind than others
Just scored another NC (used) to play with. (There's gonna be a 12-Step Program sooner or later for the Nookie-addicted!!) Anyhow, was charging this new toy and noticed something odd...the "U" (or "N" if you prefer) on the microUSB charger cable inserted in the bottom of the NC....it glowed "red" whilst charging! Wierd. The other cables (yeah, I know, mulitple NCs) glow yellow then green when charged.
Anyone else seen this? Not worried, just curious. (Actually it's kinda cool..)

Yeah, my sister brought her's over this weekend and the charger did the *red thing*. Thought I screwed something up for a second!
Her's was bought at Walmart and has the 2010 ser#.
Mine glows orange & green and was bought at B&N in Nov. 2004 ser#.
I think it glows red when you run it down so low that the Nook Color shuts down on reserve power. Yellow is the normal color when charging, and then green for fully charged (or when the cord is slightly ajar I've discovered).

This is correct. I've been there a couple of times. As you charge the red will turn orange/yellow & then green when fully charged. It has to be discharged to the point that it won't stay on for the red to show.
Red "N" on USB Cable
I have one of a few known Nook Color USB cables which glows red when unplugged. It just started one day and has never stopped. I think a normal Nook Color USB cable is dark (unlit) when unplugged.
Having said that I'll add this: The red LED seems to be on always. So when the Nook is charging the normal orange color has a distinct red tint to it. And when the Nook Color is full the normal green color has more of a yellow (but not very orange) tint.
This seems moot as the Nook charges fully and otherwise works well. The cable problem occurred before I rooted or installed CM6 RC4.
I updated my NC to run CM7 off the SD card and whenever I go to charge it the Indicator built into the USB cable never changes to Green when the battery is completely charged. Is always stays the yellow color. Anyone else notice this?
ya same with mine it never changes colour...
For me, sometimes it turns green, other times it doesn't. Seems to charge up OK either way though.
Odd I have CM7 flashed to the emmc and it always turns green when fully charged. Is everyone who's having a problem running off SD?

The green indicator is not tied to the battery percent gauge on the display. It takes a few hours after the 100% reading before the green light goes on...

that doesn't sound too right. it should turn on at 100% immediately right?
and i thought i'm the only one with this problem.

Nope... the green light is tied to a voltage comparator. When the threshold exceeds the predetermined voltage, the light turns green.
The battery gauge is tied to a ADC (analog to digital converter). That's how it determines the percentage power left.
The two are independent. The question was previously addressed:

has motorola fixed that little LED after this update?
I don't see how they could release this phone without noticing that... so stupid.
Moto's official explanation is that it isn't a charging light but a "sign of life". It only comes on(blinks) when battery is too dead for the phone to turn on charging mode. This is to let you know its still alive. Would be nice if it was a charging light though.

Charging at Night
To be honest, I'm really glad that they decided for it to be a "sign of life" light. With my previous phone (Milestone/OG DROID), the light would bother the hell outta me when I'd go to bed at night and charge it on my nightstand.
Thanks Moto for this one !
Light Flow
Light Flow has an option for this and a lot more. you can make the LED one color for charging and another for when its full.

That app is for the front LED. Not the side tiny little light next to the microUSB port.

There's a light on the side?! I just had to look now to see it. I had never seen it before. I'm running the leaked OTA, when does it even light up?
Read about 4 posts up
With the OTA applied, the light now works if the phone is OFF.
Once the phone is switched on, the light goes out.
And the phone is plugged into a charging source, of course.
Wow I never knew this existed. Interesting...I guess. I don't think I've ever seen it light up.
I tried it too and it lights up a second then the phone is turning on, the led then turns off. Glad its working.

I saw that it existed, but had never seen it light up. Until I plugged in my phone with no battery in. Then it lit up. I was running .890 and that was the first time I ever saw it.
Replaced the battery in my Nook, it wouldn't come on or charge, now it goes to green, amber, and red blinking light. Can someone help me with getting this to work? What should I look for etc.?
Make sure your 7 pins (2 red, 2 black, 1 yellow, 1 green and 1 white) connector is properly attached, If yes, you should measure between the red wires and black wires has any voltage between them.
