[REQUEST] Doctor Who Boot Animation - Nexus S Themes and Apps

Hello all. I was wondering if anyone would like to make a Doctor Who boot animation for me? Basically this but as a boot animation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929816
I know there are others but i have tried them and they don't look right for the NS because they were not made for the NS. Also how do i get the sound working for boot animations? Much appreciated to whoever does this for me.

Somebody within that thread requested that a month ago. Doesn't look like anyones taking the job

Shame. It would only take an experienced developer half hour probably. Still anyone know how to get the sound working for the boot animation? Thanks.

Its really not that difficult i've made a bootanimation before. the hardest part would probably be extracting the actual animation from the lwp. I'm lazy and have some stuff i wanna try with my phone lined up (in particular get miui messaging onto cm7), but if i get the chance ill poke around in the apk and see what i can find.
btw in case your interested in trying yourself unzip another bootanimation and you will see its only two folders with pictures and a config file that says framerate and screen size.
edit: yeah i just unzipped the apk because i was interested in seeing how lwp's work and all the images you would need are in the first drawable folder. try it out yourself and if you can't get it working i'll kang something together for you.

its pretty easy.. open the apk with winrar, take the images out
download a existing bootanimation.zip change the pictures around and rename it to bootanimation.zip with a txt
i have to leave for class now but i just threw this together in like two minutes. it works, but the bootanimation is really fast so it looks awkward
rename drwho.zip to bootanimation.zip
move it to /system/media/
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?n4b5330iqj8k53p
if i have time, ill work on it some more later today.. or if somebody wants to fix the speed on the bootanimation, feel free. i take no credit in this

Thank you. Yes hopefully someone will slow it down. I would of had a go but my laptop got munched by a Virus last nite and it wiped my boot sector. So if anyone wishes to slow it down please do. Thanks.

ZephiK, please slow it down. Thanks for your time on this, I really do appreciate you doing this.

Inside the drwho.zip should be a desc.txt file. Open it and change the fps number (the only 2 digit one) to something lower, that should slow down the animation. if it works upload it otherwise when i get home from work tonight ill fool around with it myself.

Yeah I just got home and was about to change that. Thanks for reminding me, going to play with it and see which one is the best result and I'll re-upload it.
Like I said, I packaged that together like five minutes before I had to go to class. I'm back now so it shouldn't take too long to do.
Edit: Unable to produce a good enough quality of this. Animation doesn't show clearly whatsoever.
Don't like the fact that this is landscaped live wallpaper.
if you want this to work, you're more than willing to do this but im going to call it quits because im honestly not going to use this and its not worth fulfilling this. sorry

Ok thanks for trying zephiK. Hope it we can get something sorted.

themapleboy, I would appreciate if you could something with it. Think we might need better quality animation for it though.

Can't work out why it splits into 3 bits on the animation. We need a portrait version. I have great faith in ya mapleboy lol.

Although i'm probably never going to use it (not for lack of fandom lol just like to keep my os's.. os looking) I'm will poke around with it later and see what i can do. is the lwp in landscape? and if i don't post back here by sunday pm me... i forgot.

Yes it's in landscape. Thanks for doing this.

sorry mate i tried, theres something wrong with the images themselves. They show up at a 45* angle ruining the whole animation. i tried renaming them to jpg to see if that would strip something embedded into the png's but alas that did not work.

Ok no worries

My Chips Not up to par? .29 Kernel blues

Everytime I try flashing Anything with toasts custom kernel my phone just wants to up and die, If play with the phone and am patient enough I can sometimes get one boot, that eventually crashes and never comes back as I just see a solid HTC logo.
I'm also finding every-time I try booting, while looked up to the computer trying to get a logcat or at least something it appears my phone is malfunctioning to the point it only appears as an unknown device if it even shows.
I've tried Freshtoast, IC3rom and the newest Darchdroid to no avail.
I'm thinking i just got cursed with subpar chips from htc and that perhaps it doesn't even like the lower 710 mhz overclock, anyone else experiencing this?
Just frustrated, if anyone would be willing to give input or plain help it'd appreciated knowing that time is valuable, There is great work at foot here.
Edit: Just about had to shove my foot in my mouth, got a boot started right before I posted, Saddly it isn't booting reliably let it set up
logged into my google account and tried to restart the phone, same luck I've been having has decided to hard reset? "Vibrates and screen flash" 4 Times in the past 5 minutes
well I am not sure what you have and havent tried, but a few things to check first. Is your sdcard setup for apps2sd? if so did you wipe that also when you are switching roms?.
Did you wipe your data between roms?
Have you tried just a stock rom, such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681697 . this is completely stock of the final 2.1 release. Wipe everything including your ext partion on your sdcard, if you have one.
Thats at least a starting point to see if you dont have faulty hardware. You honostly should have no problem getting that to work.
Try Zen's slide rom. I too could not boot a single overclocked rom, until I tried that one. Is overclocked, but boots up at 480, and no bfs or compcache, so I don't know what makes it work, but it does. Once in, I was able to overclock to 691 (stock is 528), and I get neocore scores of 32-33 fps consistently, linpacks at 2.9-3.1, so almost right there with those going to 767, definite improvement over stock. Anyways, try it, my favorite sense rom by far.
I'm having these issues too... I want DarchDroid....
Actually, darch's latest booted finally for me! It's a new update, go try it!

Aye Zen did a pretty sweet job on it, If I have to use sense thats the rom with the goodies I really like, more so when he managed to get rid of all the purple and pink from it.
I had the same issues. I loaded the overclock widget and set it to 480 then updated the kernel to .29. Seemed to work. I got it up to 691 before I had lock up issues. 768 is 3 seconds.

That's an interesting fix. I'm going to try that, as I've had issues flashing any rom that is OC'd (trying DC 2.08.1 .29 kernel right now using your suggestion)
Edit: That still did not work for me for DC. I'm at a loss.

I did. My phone will not boot any OC'd ROM. I've been trying for about a week now...not sure what else to try.
As of DarchDroid 2.6.5, it is no longer working on our "sub-par" phones.
If anyone needs 2.6.4 and the dl link is not up, just let me know.
And he added bfs back in, I know it doesn't make sense, but I wonder if that's what is doing it, it's one of the few similarities between darch droid and zen slide that is different in all others.

[MOD] FFC for the Vibrant development

MODDING THE SAMSUNG VIBRANT TO HAVE A FRONT FACING CAMERA (FFC)
DISCLAIMER: It is NOT my fault if this Breaks your Device, or if you screw it up trying to do it. blah blah you know the drill. XDA is also not responsible. This WILL void your warranty. Luckily it is easy to do.
***THIS IS ONLY FOR THE VIBRANT***
Other phones are slightly different inside
Required:
-Compatible rom (Bionix fusion or eugene's froyo or any rom that the dev specifically says ffc compatiable)
-JAC's OC/UV Kernel. Stock kernel will not work, period. Voodoo should also work KK's kernel also does not work.
-An FFC, of course (see below for where to get it)
HOW TO DO IT:
1. Open your phone
2. Remove the 7 screws or so
3. Remove the internal battery cover.
4. Remove your Vibrant camera... it is snapped in under the cam chip.
5. Using Goof OFF! or denatured alcohol or something similar, dip a q-tip in the chemical, and slightly dab the whole where it is to go.
6. Let it sit for 10-20 minutes, and repeat (or if you are anxious, don't wait...)
7. Using something plastic for the safety of the digitizer glass, and scrape out the gunk.
8. Now, definitely let everything dry before putting your phone back together, and MOST definitely before you put the battery in and turn it on. Give it 20-30 minutes to be safe... depends on the chemical used.
I used a flat head screw driver, which is metal, but if you choose this USE EXTREME CAUTION!!
For more info, go to my thread in the General section as I may have missed something/got something wrong in this post. It has been a while since I first did this mod...
Useful tidbits:
If you get force closes when trying to use a the cam, then you did not read instructions. Use the proper kernel.
Banding is present in low light conditions. This looks to be a software issue. Popular belief is that the phone is powering both cameras at the same time when either is called, and is basically confusing itself. This is a work in progress.
Software that is known to work is Fring, various lame mirror apps, etc. Android video calling is only available in Froyo, but I have not tested it recently since Eugene's R3, so I cannot confirm that it working ATM. Tango may also work.
Attached the mach.aries file for those of you that wanna chip in and do some digging. Looks like most of the things we need are in there. Attached a .rar and a .zip file... for some reason I had both? It's been a loooong couple weeks.
Epic camera: thanks to KellyLewis3985 for the dl.
http://db.tt/0DEkw9X
How to Flash:
1. Download the ZIP and put it on the root of your INTERNAL SD Card.
2. Open ROM Manager and boot into ClockWorkMod (DO NOT use Stock Recovery) or boot into recovery the manual way.
3. Navigate down to "apply sdcard: select zip" and locate the .zip file in your internal SD card. Push the power button, navigate down to "YES" and push the power button once more.
4. Let it do its thing, and reboot. First boot *may* take an extra second... Play with new cam app.
To get a cam:
Just got some more cams ordered... should have them by the weekend, so any orders now will start shipping 11/8 in the order they are received.
Go here: http://bit.ly/8ZEPW4
UPDATES:
So, now my desktop is totally dead... makes noises it shouldnt right when i turn it on... have to replace... grrr
-----------------------------------------------------
Got some donations recently, just wanted to say thanks, but the good people here on XDA do not need to pay for one kid's dooschery. I returned the donations back to you. Here is the response sent with the refunds:
Hey man, I appreciate the donation... but the overwhelming support I received the other day on xda was more than enough. This one guy got me down for a night, and you guys picked me up. No one else on xda should pay for his dooschery. Again THANKS

I feel that there are some things more valuable than money. I wasn't pissed about losing $30 as I was about the principle and that someone would have the audacity to rip someone off that is trying to help. Again thanks.
-----------------------------------------------------
Well, due to over whelming support, i'm not done. Last batch has sold out, and some new options have presented themselves. Also, with the help of a few others, they are getting mad progress on diving through source code working on the banding issue... Keep following this thread for progress.
-----------------------------------------------------
So.... An ebay user who is also an xda member deliberately screwed me out of a camera and the money for it, so after this batch is gone, i'm done. He never updated his address with ebay or paypal, and of course i sent it to the address i had... and he got ebay to not only refund the full price but keep the fees for the sale and money transfer. Way to say thanks to the guy that got this started... asshole. oh! i get it. he is just out of high school and is a little slow to how the world works. probably because he "works on a farm with 70 dairy cows." <- quote from him.
-----------------------------------------------------
Next batch of ffc cams are coming in for those of you who do not have one yet. New listing, donating some of the process to breast cancer research/awareness...
eBay listing here SOLD OUT
Still settling in after the move and new job... Still w/o internet at my house too... So I am limited in what else I can do right now... Hopefully getting these out will help some of you.
-----------------------------------------------------
Breaking news available via my twitter feed of #vibrantFFC. my original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7941083
-----------------------------------------------------
This thread is for android/software development of the FFC for the Vibrant. Software and ROM support is insufficient atm, so let's get that fixed.
To see how to add the FFC, check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804142
To get a camera check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804122 or hit up my ebay listing here. buying cams from the wholesaler in large quantities to provide them to you individually... Wholesaler had minimum order requirements.
Currently, I have only tested the FFC in JP3 and Bionix. Mirror app works fine, but is useless.
Video calling is doable, but not available in Bionix. Is available in JP3, but is broken.
Have not had a chance to test Tango, but Fring looks to be coded to use the rear camera...
UPDATE: there has been a lot of progress recently. Halfway through reading all of the threads... Seriously have note had much time, but should be able to finish compiling all of the info into this post soon.

Ok, I am a little confused as to which thread I should be posting in. But here goes.
My FFC wont load in Mirror App using Bionix 1.8 Stock Kernel.
Here is the logcat. http://pastebin.com/biJmEhPr
----------- Edit -----------
Ok, so I finally got around to installing a Rom with a modified kernel. (Specifically Bionix 1.8 w/ Jacs)
The Mirror app now loads the FFC and the image is actually better than the rear cam at the moment.
So, it looks like whatever is going on in the kernel makes a huge difference. Perhaps someone can
take a look at the i9000 and Bell SGS Kernel's.
Posted this in the other thread and it was recommended that I post it here:
Just a thought to kick around some ideas, has anyone looked at this?
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/Camera.Parameters.html
Looks like there are a few options that could be tweaked, including 'antibanding' for 50 and 60hz

i believe the above it true, i am running bionix 1.8 with the kk kernel, and i cannot get the mirror app to work, will load in the jacs kernel and see the difference.
edit:
i reloaded Bionix 1.8 with Jacs oc/uv without voodoo, and can now confirm the front camera working with the mirror app, albeit grainy
Could not get FFC to work on Bionex 1.7 Stock kernel. Third the kernel info.

Grainy or blurry?
If blurry, you can rotate the focus ring on the actual camera. That's what Cobra did to fix his.
Received camera, installed and confirmed that mirror app works on Bionix 1.7 with JAC voodoo kernel(voodoo activated). Unfortunately, the rear camera problem still exists. Tweaking focus now via outer ring of FFC.
Just installed the new camera. Still on stock JI6 ROM. Banding happens. I recorded some video and can post it if people are interested. Might check if there is any logging that happens when the camera starts up.

ahh gotcha, i'll try that when i get home after work.
when using the rear camera in vignette, the area where the camera chip is gets very warm after not very much use.
maybe the stock vibrant camera data files don't place nice with the i9000 camera
Does any dev have a cam yet?

Everyone seems to be including Darkyys RAM booster and the Fugu Tweaks in their ROMs now, does this one include either, or is the EDT scripts your own version of the said above?

I'm about to flash this and check it out but I was wondering what, if anything, are the major differences between this and Bi-Winning aside from theming. Thanks.
For those of you who (like me) can't stand having an accurate battery mod, I've posted a MetaMorph that will replace the numbered batteries with the stock icons. It won't break the xml and any charging animation will stay the same. I've also included a Pepperkake revert if you change your mind.

does this rom include chinese input language?
So far so good with this ROM, it's simple and clean... pretty much just like Bionix. I've kept Overstock in it for now without OC'ing just to get things setup, I'll be tossing in TB later to use the UV features I enjoy.
** Only bug I've noticed so far is the puzzle lock screen. The puzzle piece is really fugly...like a teal-ish color with a drop shadow under it. Kinda looks like a photo negative or something. **
I would also like to request the gingerbread keyboard. I'm not sure if it's a Bionix specific deal or if it's as simple as just pushing an apk, but it's probably the only thing I feel this ROM is missing.
This was installed on a fresh formated factory ODIN. Had a softbrick issue a few hours ago so everything was re-done.
Guess I'll ride this one out until we get a 2.3.
Yea it has the Chinese keyboard as well as the 4 Chinese language options.

Hi, there!
Before I get started here, let me apologize if this subject has been covered before. I can't seem to get the forum keyword search function to return any results--at all- and I don't have time to read pages and pages of threads to find what I'm looking for. If there is a better place for this, please let me know.
I'm new to the Nook Color, and I'm running CM7 nightly release from 07/02/11. I love it, but I have some questions and a comment.
When the app drawer is open and you long-press an icon, it used to put a shortcut to that app on the homescreen. now it brings up this weird little submenu... What exactly does, "Choose Catalog", mean and what does it do for us? I REALLY miss that long-press to add shortcut to homescreen thing. Is there a setting that I can change to re-enable it?
Is there a specific thread to use to give feedback and ask questions about the nightlies' that is for the Nook Color only? I saw one for the nightlies, but it seemed that it was mostly irrelevent to us since all manner of devices--includung phones-- were being discussed.
I've just been using the CM7 nightly releases with Google Apps installed. Am I missing something by not installing Dalingrin's clockwork mod kernel? I was afraid that it was a replacement--not an addition-- for the CM7 nightly build. Should I install it? I'm sure I'd like to overclock my Nook to over a gigahertz, but I wouldn't like losing the stability and fumctionality of the nightly build I'm using.
Thanks in advance for any assistance y'all can offer.
Looks like the launcher is sorta corrupt. Try a different launcher that will work. Go Launcher EX (free) on the Market. Launcher Pro Plus is the best I think but it costs a little amount. Oh, but if you want to really stick with the stock launcher, go into Settings>Applications>All>ADW Launcher. And uninstall it. Then re-flash CM7 Nightly + Gapps and it should be restored.
First... on the launcher screen... use menu... more.... make sure homescreen is not locked.... Then it will do as you're used to regarding placing on launcher screen.
Actually... you don't have to unlock desktop... just wiggle finger when the menu you are talking about is up.... you will have to unlock desktop to move the item or delete it if you want.
Now I will edit this to answer more... just wanted it posted before you did anything as drastic as replacing or reinstalling your launcher...
The CM7 user thread in the Nook Color section is a great place for discussing all things NookColor CM7 related.
What the catalog does is....
You can place apps in a catalog... then when you're in app drawer then the left and right app launcher buttons turn to < >... use them to move between catalogs... ALL apps will still show everything... but in each catalog will show only the apps you add to it... so you can create a catalog called "Utils" and place all the Nook Color and CM7 utilities in it... scroll to is and ONLY those apps will show on the screen.
As for Dalingrin's OC kernel... if you're not using it and his NookTweaks... you are TRULY missing out... STRONGLY encouraged to use them.
Oh and don't OC past 1.2 GHz in NookTweaks.... it will give you SOD every hour.
Thanks for the quick response. I didn't know about the long-press-and-wiggle technique, and it worked like a champ.
Do I have to start over to install Dalingrin's mod? Does it replace this operating system entirely?

No you don't have to start over... just flash it after anyof the nightlies... any time after.

Really? What about some people reporting being able to go up to 1.6 ghz? One of the reasons I bought the NC was in hopes that it could run 1.3 or 1.4 ghz stable.

That is a pretty dumb blanket statement especially when there is a percentage of users who have hit 1.3GHz and higher without getting a sod. I get them less then once a day. I used to get them as often when I was at 1.2GHz. So please don't misinform people

Well, when I went any higher than 1.2 GHz, I got sod every other hour. When I clocked up to 1600 Mhz, the thing got SOD like every 5 minutes.
EDIT: @PoisonWolf, do you know how to get up to 1.6 GHz no SOD? I would love to be faster than the Flyer... which is double the price.
C'mon, people. We provide feedback based on our own experiences and it's not always 100% true but still, no need to use harsh words to correct the mis-info. Be nice and together we can build a strong community.
Anyway, even though I'm using Dalingrin OC 063001 version and nookcolortweak installed, I cannot ever seen any option to overclock greater 1200MHz, how do you guy get up to 1.3GHz, left alone 1.6GHz? What kernel do you use?

Well, to be able to get up to 1.6ghz, that is really the luck of the draw. I would gather that the manufacturing process is not perfect and not all chips can achieve such speeds. If anything, I would imagine there to be a range on the "limits" of these chips.
I found out that mine was 1350 mhz. No matter what I did, anything higher than that resulted in clunky responses, choking, skipping, etc.
I was hoping I'd get something in the 1.5 ghz range, but ah well.
Thus, I now run it at 1.3 ghz ondemand!
Just tinker around with the combinations / voltages / governors to see what your true limitation is. While you are doing this, do NOT set anything ON BOOT.

Same Kernel with U.
Most Nooks go around 1.200-1.300mhz.Some few lucky can go a bit more.
Got it,
Thanks Ras

Cap is bootlooping on MPD 2.0 .

I need a little help. My I897 is running on MPD 2.0 ROM, w/ EyeCandy v 3.15 and Corn Kernel 7.06, and it is stuck bootlooping at the swirling optical illusion at start-up. I don't know why, all I was doing was playing a couple of games and it was really lagging, and freezing up and it has been a lot lately. I even posted about it yesterday or the day before? Whatever?
So tonight, it just froze while playing a game and it was totally unresponsive so I let it sit. After about 10 minutes, I noticed it was on the optical illusion and stuck with the illusion spinning away. I pulled the battery, restart the phone same thing. Goes through the first start up screens and gets to the swirl thing and goes no further.
I pulled the battery again and replaced it, went into recovery and hit the reboot device and started it up. Same thing.
Should I reflash the Rom? If I do, I have to do a full wipe and that will suck.
Has anyone had this problem on MPD 2.0?
Maybe someone has an answer.
Thanks, whoever tries to help me with this.

I'm not so sure what MPD is but Corn kernel is on GB. Therefor, there's no developping nor support being made for it, which could explain why you got no answer on your previous post.
Luckily, you can get in recovery. Make a backup, wipe cache/dalvik and try to boot up. If that doesn't work, back in recovery, wipe cache/dalvik, factory reset and reflash your ROM. Altough, I would suggest looking at the newer ROMs out there as we're up to JB 4.2.1 (you're on GB 2.3.5).
If you go ahead with the upgrade, make sure you follow the full instructions in the OP.
Thanks, I already reflshed and its running. I know that there are newer Roms I only flashed it because I hadn't yet flashed anything from the Collective and the eyecandy theme I wanted to check out also.
But after running great for a couple weeks, it started getting buggy. Now I'm gonna do something else. My SII is running darkside Evolution #5 4.03 by thederekjay w/venom kernel, and I wanted an older Rom in my Cap, for contrast.
I'm not sure what I'll do next. I just needed it running. It is my business line for my electrical contracting company. And it will start ringing in about a ½ hour.
Thanks, for your response and have a great day.

Wait, the collective? The Collective and The Family used to be one team.. Yet I dunno what you mean by MPD?
And if you're looking into something stable, I would highly suggest either AOKP or AoCP (4.1.2).
MPD is a KK4 based Rom put together by robm1911 of the Collective. The Multiple Personality Disorder ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27985912

What would you recommend for a stable build? I use my Cap as my business line. So it has to be reliable. Camera, GPS, texting, etc..., all have to function. But I also like to have the little extras. As you know I'm on the kk4 kernel, and I'm OK with flashing, not okay with having to run anything that needs me to use Linux or do any command lines that kinda thing. I still new to everything. Thanks

Sorry, but I forgot to mention that it running pretty normal now. I got rid of the eyecandy theme. It is the culprit from what I can tell. Without it the phone is better. Still a little laggy though.

There are also tweaks in recovery that u can choose from and even the ability to change the partitions to Ext4. Check the kk4 corn kernel's op for info on these things.
I use my cappy for work and pretty much have stock kk4, with Root, debloated, Ext4 on all partitions and the tweaks i have are sio Scheduler and smartassv2 Governor. Runs great !

I have it running on deadline and smartass v2 and it runs pretty damn well, I dont know too much about partinoning so I have stayed clear just in case I screw something up.
What about the kernel tweaks (ROM toolbox pro) the voltage controlsyscti tweaks? What is that for, signalling the different MHz -0mV? I'm an electrician and have been for 20 years but electronics is a new hobby and the phones my new medium. I would love to know more, so if you could tell me what I should read or??? That would help me learn more I would be stoked.
Thanks KK

OC = Overclock
UV = Undervolt
SoD = Sleep of Death
I don't suggest changing voltage on the cappy (UV). The processor isn't strong/fast enough, therefor it takes more time to process what you ask of it = more screen time = more battery drain. While screen off though, your battery will be better (can also cause black screen and SoD at unstable state). Screen on is the main battery drain for androids. So basically, reducing your voltage (UV) will lower your battery consumption, of course at a price = slower processing and despite you intention to reduce battery drain, it might increase it. The Captivate has proved to be quite unstable with OC/UV on GB and up.
Up'in your Mhz (OC) will make your phone faster but at the cost of faster battery drain and faster hardware usage. On top of that, both can make your phone unstable. Finding the right combination can take some time if you really wanna get into it. There are guides about it which you can find with a little search, altough, once again, I don't recommend it.
Thanks Bwolf, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain some of that. I have read some some of that stuff in other posts, over the past year or more that I've been on XDA, although it was Greek to me at the time. Now I knowwhat you guys are saying, I just don't know the hows or whys. In time.
I will follow your advice on the voltage and the OC and leave it alone.
There was a time a while back when I first started messing around and I changed something it might have been voltage, and my Cap went nuts. It was sucking down my battery right before my eyes, so fast and getting hot, I pulled the battery and I don't remember how I got it straightened out, but I did. Crazy! So, I know better, curiosity killed the cat (cap) lOL. Thanks Again

Hehe np. As for what happened before, pulling the battery most likely reseted your kernel settings (OC in this case) as it probably wasn't ''set on boot''. Probably saved you a lot of hastle too
