Other networks - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a G1 and it is locked to T-Mobile, and I can't get signal in work with that network. Is there a way to unlock it to Orange or o2?
Any help would be great.
Thanks

The only way to get a T-Mobile G1 to work with other network is to unlock it.
You'll have to get it unlock by either contacting T-Mobile and asked them for the unlock code. Or pay for the unlock code through the third party site that offer that support for a fee.

root / unlocked question

does root meen that the phone is also unlocked to any network ?
if not
how do you get round unlocking network
no root does not automatically unlock your phone, from what I've been told if you've had your phone with tmobile (assuming you're a US customer) for three months or longer you can call tmobile and request an unlock code, there are also plenty of pay services you can find on the internet for unlocking

Imagio sim card master confusion....

I called VZW and got my unlock code, and I have unlocked it so that I can use another Sims, but while the other Sims is on the phone, or even without a Sims card I can still make phone calls. This is a problem as I unlocked the phone so that I could use Sims on India, where I'm traveling in 2 days...tips?
A call to VZW clarified my questions. While on CDMA inside USA the phone does not use the SIM card, with a T-Mobile Sims card on the phone, I switch to GSM and the phone inmedially registered the T-Mobile card and new number. If I happend to be abroad, and I have my Verizon/Vodaphone Sims inside, the CDMA network will then use the Sim to register on the network.

Unlock?
So how does Verizon give out this unlock code? I have an Imagio but I whodinied it and have it on metroPCS. I would like to unlock the phone to use AT&T or T-Mobile.
Call global support and tell them you will be going overseas. They give you the 8 digit unlock code, you enter it. Poof. I can use my neighboor's AT&T SIM and be her .
You do not need the SIM in the US to make calls on Verizon.

Even if I don't have the Imagio activated with Verizon? Is the password different for each phone? How do you enter this password? You dial it in?

Yes they are all different, they generate the code from your IMEI ( kind of like a cars VIN number ). *#06# will give you the IMEI.
Just tell them you are going abroad and not using Vodafone and that's it. 800-711-8300 Option 2.
IMEI is under Start/Settings/System/Device Information/ Version Tab
You enter the 8 digit code under
Start/Settings/Personal/Security
Good Luck!
They denied it, they said I needed to have the $29.99 plan plus the $39.99 unlimited data plan. WTH???
Any other alternative?

*#06# didn't do anything, even tried the "TALK" afterwards, nothing, nada.
Any other trick in getting the IMEI?
Who did you buy it from, who is your carrier? You probably should call your carrier if Verizon won't help you.

I figured it out, had to switch to GSM mode before dialing the *#06#
Im boricua also, and have the Imagio on metroPCS, trying to get GSM working when I go to PR I can call out with same phone.
You *DO* have to have a qualifying Verizon account. I asked and the minimum account you need is the $29.99 and you also need the $39.99 unlimited data plan addon. Too much IMHO. If you have the Imagio on another network (like I do) then here is a service which is in our pocket's reach...I submitted my IMEI and will post results as soon as I get my unlock code.

Hey would you please help me whodini my hTC Imagio to cricket as well?
PLEASE
LOL! Whodini is a metroPCS flashing tool, not sure if Cricket uses the same software. Try calling Cricket to see if they will add the MEID of the phone to their network or if you actually have to take it in to one of their stores to have it done. I can guide you how to provision it once the MEID is on their netowrk...
I am looking for the data settings for T-mobile. Can anyone help?
While I was abroad in India, I used my company's T-Mobile Sims card, from which I send SMS and also used voice but no internet as I had my data OFF, what I did not know was that they still charged my Verizon account 16 bucks of data fees. Apparently since the phone is global it still was recognized on the India network as it was trying to connect to their network, in other words, just the fact that the phone was trying to connect to their antennas counted as data transfer!!! I rather pay for unlimited international data plan next time I'm abroad and it would have being the same amount of money...sucky

Unlocked Galaxy S6 Active?

I would like to purchase the GS6A from Amazon. It's without a plan but it is locked. Will I be able to unlock it in my country if I don't have any account at ATT's, etc?
How does that work?
You don't need a AT&T account for unlocking it. You can buy the unlock code form any unlocking website online.
My self using it in India bought from eBay and unlocked it later.
Note that it's not blacklisted or anything like that.
If you buy from ATT and pay retail price, they will give you the unlock code. Just call their customer service line.
Doesn't Make Sense
So, since I don't know much about unlocking devices, I asked AT&T Customer Support about it:
Me : After the 14 days: In unlocking the phone, does the phone have to be connected to the network actively at that time? What if I'm out of the country with the phone and want to unlock it remotely from some other location outside of AT&T network?
Karina : You will need to be within the U.S. to have it connected to our network to have it unlocked.
Me : I couldn't be on ROAMING at the time?
Karina : No, that will be since you will receive an email with the code to have it unlocked and need to be connected to our service.

So, this doesn't make sense, because the process for unlocking the phone is to turn it off, remove the AT&T SIM, put in another carrier's SIM.
Turn on the device and you should receive a message to enter in an unlock code.
Don't see why the phone needs to be present on the AT&T network first in order to receive the unlock code. What, do they send it via SMS or something?

Network Unlock

I have a SM-G925A that I purchased unlocked. I am using it with a Straight Talk sim with no problems. However, I am now trying to use a LIME sim and it is saying "SIM Network Unlock Pin". I contacted AT&T and received the unlock code but it is not working.
Is there a way for me to Network Unlock my phone without the need of the unlock code? Like perhaps with a USB?
My phone is not rooted and it is on Android 5.1.1. G925AUCU3BOI2 factory.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks

XT1774 can't figure out where to enter unlock code for sim.

I got the unlock code off ebay. When I put a verizon postpaid sim in I just get a webpage for phone locked, when I dial #786074* I just get a voice prompt saying device is not active. How do I unlock?
Ok, found it! from settings: wireless & networks:
well, I can't find it again. I think it goes away once I unlock it. But there was an option in there to change network carriers and that brought me to the unlock screen.
