HD7 on Fido - data speed test - HD7 General

SO I have been using a nice HD7 (orginally from Bell) on Fido and am loving it
Just wanted to see if anyone else is getting some strange speed numbers:
I tested on dslreports & mobilespeedtest and both are saying that I am getting below EDGE (around 250kb/s to 400) speed.
I know that these sites aren't that accurate and also know I am on 3G (HDSPA speed) because of the 3G & H icons at the top of the phone.
Just wanted to see what everyone else is getting for speeds here in Canada

Anyone using Touch Diamond on AT&T in US? With 3G working?

In the past HTC disabled 3G support on the S710 and S730 for use in the US because no US carrier 'supported' this phone. So although both were decent phones we couldn't use them at EDGE speeds.
Does anyone know if the Touch Diamond quad-band model works at 3G speeds with the US AT&T network?
Thanks!
Bill
Oh yes, beautifully.. Better yet, the Diamond is able to use HSDPA with AT&T, which is faster than 3G, as alleged as 3.5G
Mine is working too!
Didn't work at first but I woke up this morning and the E turned into an H.
Thanks for the feedback!!
I bought the unlocked US version from Best Buy, they matched web price, and I had the phone up and running on AT&T very quickly. There is an auto setup for AT&T users. Solid performance, H in my area, auto changes elsewhere.
It can beat my home dsl speeds while tethering when I am on the road. That rocks pretty hard imo. Just be aware that the euro version of the diamond which can be found on the internet and in the used market cannot be flashed to light up the US 3G freqs, it really is a hardware issue.
Does anyone know if this will also work with T-Mobiles 3G network or is the frequency on this phone not capable? I want to check before I bite the bullet on picking one up. Thanks!
Unfortunatly, it won't due to different bandwidth. AT&T uses UMTS 850/1900, whereas T-Mobile uses 1700. More details can be found in "US 3G First Look" in this thread.

[Q] Rogers dream on telus network 3g speed

Hello i need to know if im supposed to have full 3g speed using my rogers dream on telus network. It is rooter and simunlocked and i use vannon rom. My 3g speed is at 500 kbps max and most of the time its lower . i test it using speedtest.net application.
thx fos your help!
What to you mean you're 'supposed' to get 'full' 3g speed? I think you're referring to Tmobile G1s not getting 3G for Rogers and Telus bands, so yes, you're getting 3G.
The 3G speed you get depends on a large number of factors including location, it is not the same everywhere. Unless there's a fault with your phone (highly unlikely) there's no reason why the speed you get will be less than what everyone else gets. Maybe Telus has a ****ty network?
i whas wondering if it can be a firmware or hardware trouble i whas talking about rogers dream not t-mobile i know they dont work. its just that my 3g speed is very very bad .
Most carriers have crappy speeds, it's highly unlikely that your phone is the issue.

What is with this H internet instead of 3g

I have cognition rom and instead of having 3g I have this H internet. It sits on 3g for a milla second then switches to H. My buddy with iphone four is getting way higher speed tests than me, why can't I get 3g and get better speeds?

Since this has only been answered 100 times in the past three weeks...

AND as far as the better speeds for the Iphone go......you can Google that as well............ I'm guessing your on At&T?
I don't know why but my buddies 3g was consistently hitting 300-350 kbs. The max I was hitting was like 150. We were right next to each other when we were testing this, I guess that the iphone blows the captivate away in 3g reception and speed. Also in the spotty areas he was keeping his 3g and I was dropping down to edge. Kinda disappointed . Had anyone else noticed that the 3g reception isn't that good our is it just my area?

this is why i hate american cell providers, they want you to remain ignorant. it's not your fault but it is funny that people arent familiar with grps, edge, hspa, and hspa+ it is like they are telling you that you are too stupid to understand so you dont need to know.
the cdma providers are the worst. but att should be proud of having hspa, but i think they want to hide the fact that it is not available in all 3g areas. instead they advertise the hspa speeds as there 3g speeds as hspa works on there 3g network. they dont distinguish the two so you think there network is so much faster in so many places
meanwhile verizon advertises the hspa coverage for att as 3g coverage to make att's coverage look smaller. they say they have so much more coverage, if they showed a current 3g map for att instead of the hspa coverage you would not see a big difference at all. also cdma 3g is totally different from what att has and is not a fair comparison in the first place. how can you compare coverage if the speed is not comparable?
Comparing phones side by side with speed test is also not the best way to test which device is faster, especially if they are on the same network. I am annoyed by the input on this device or Id go in depth. Use some google-foo and read on cell phone signaling and theory and youll see what I mean.

Att Data Throttling?

I live in Southeast Missouri and it seems that when I'm at work (full bars of H signal) I get horrible data speed. My phone won't even load the Xda app. I've been through about 3 different modems and still get the same result. Is there anything I can do or is Att just f###ing us Android users again?

The Bars indicate the signal strength and not necessarily the quality of your data connection. It is possible to have a good signal but still have slow speeds / poor data quality. It's like that where I work too. I've go good bars but the speed is slow. My coworker called ATT about it and they said they were in the process of getting new towers installed, or upgrade the old ones or something like that, in our area in order to increase the speeds available in the area. ATT told us that they do not throttle speeds but that it was an issue with the quality of the data connection in our area due to the towers in the area and how many people were using them versus the amount of bandwidth the available towers were capable of providing. I hope that gives you a better idea of what is probably going on for you.

should i go with at&t or stick with tmobile

Is it just me or does tmobile have the worst reception
my wife's Verizon phone can be used anywhere
Now I have the option to go with at&t ..is at&t any better
I have a hd7 with a rom
To tell you the true this is up to you. In my opinion I stay with T-Mobile because I get more coverage and reception than AT&T. Check with your provider and check how much coverage you have were you are located. I hope this helps.
On my Galaxy S II I average about 8 mbps, sometimes going up to 18 mbps. However, the Galaxy is one of only 2 phones (the other is the HTC Amaze) that can take full advantage of T-Mobile's fast network, and I live in a strong TMo coverage area. My HD7, with it's older radio, averages 2 - 3 mbps - which i still not bad.
Of course, none of that matters if T-Mobile's service isn't where you are. You are best off with a phone that can tap into the strongest network in the places you'll be in. Take a look at the Root Wireless coverage map on CNET. This is based on actual speeds people have achieved using their testing app. Maybe the data here will help you make your decision.
Look into simple mobile. $40 unlimited everything for my hd7. Runs on tmo network but for $40..switched months ago and haven't looked back. Though tmo in my area is pretty good. 4 bars H pretty much everywhere I go..
My understanding is that Simple Mobile caps 3G speeds at a fairly low number - 150-200k or so.
