So after looking at the teardown and assembly info online, I've started to percolate a notion in my head to double the battery capacity of the NC.
My thinking is that if you sacrifice a bit of structural reliability by cutting out the portion of the plate the battery is on, you could cram another NC battery, scavenged from the ruins of a dead one, into there and wire it in parallel. The end result would be a heavier, probably slightly girthier, NC, with 8000mAh of life. I don't care how bright your screen is or how many rooted roms you're using, that fool will last a looooooong time.
My question is primarily for electrical folks here: any pitfalls to watch out for? Do we know if there's any circuits in the battery itself that might interfere or is the battery unit just a collection of Li-Ion packs?
Of course if you think I'm a mad scientist who must be stopped at all costs, please feel free to chime in too. Just stand over there on the scorched X on the floor next to the death ray...

The main issues would be....
1. extra strain on the charging circuit.
2. the possibility of battery imbalance...leading to extra strain on charging circuits...possible overheat...boom
3. possibility of overheating due to combined heat from 2 batteries during heavy charging...boom.
make sure all of those are taken care of and you are golden. Personally, I would source a larger amperage battery with similar dimensions and wire it in.

I have one of those, and yes it will charge the Nook Color on the go.
Just a little heads up on the topic, android stores battery info in the boot partition I believe and that's what tells the kernal the status of the battery, I.e. a double capacity battery would report as fully charged when only half charged if you didn't Pachelhoffer the is/kernal and such to match the new capacity.
Correct me if I'm wrong!

These are excellent points. I would avoid hacking the internal circuitry and instead get a hold of an external battery, design a circuit to drop the voltage to 5v and use the usb cable to charge up the battery. Trying to charge two batteries in parallel is asking for trouble because of the imbalance problem.

For the price, I got the XP1000 I think (its in my backpack which I left at work) I actually got it for my Epic to charge when I was out and about and moved around too much to use a wall charger. Works on the Nook too, but I haven't tried a real charge to see how much I get out of it. I would guess if I can charge my Epic 2-3 times that I could at least recharge the Nook once completely.
Warning - be careful screwing around with the internal LIPO battery and circuits. If something damages the single cell battery or voltage gets to low, and you try to add voltage and amps to it, it might puff up and if it does its flammable!
Its a single cell LIPO pack like used in rc airplanes and cars! They are very finicky to say the least when it comes to discharging and charging. Let alone if you want to hook up another one to it and do it wrongly! People have burnt down there whole house at night just over charging one and not babysitting the charging progress!
It is a lithium-polymer battery and not a lithium-ion!
They can catch fire when they puff instantly, many videos on youtube!
Correct me if im wrong, but the battery has a built in monitor and charge stopper so if you were to charge both the batterys via the micro usb slot you would need some sort of trickle charge/sbc kernel mod to overcome this which could be a real pain in the arse and not to mention dangerous considering trickle charge has been known to damage batteries on occasion and we do not have an easily replaceable battery.

Wirelessly charge your phone
At the moment the power mat costs too much, if ever a battery is made for HD2 to use this, the battery cells will be smaller due to additional electronics that will be fitted within battery, so possible less battery life. Mat in present design (works on same principle as electric rechargeable toothbrush) does not fully charge batteries to prevent overcharge and heat.
You can buy an adapter that sticks to outside of phone/gadget so that powermat can be used with current phones/ipods etc., but expensive and will make a nice looking gadget ugly.

Microsoft uPad looks lots better than the powermat, if Microsoft think and get it right they should include added features for windows mobile phones, this really would be the ideal charger for the new windows phone 7 handsets.

And seeing the size of the "hump" at the back of the sleeve with the electronics in, it's actually larger than an HD2 battery, so no way to integrate it inside...

did you actually watch the video? somewhere in the middle they say that they will be producing batteries instead of all the other things soon. so the only thing you have to do is change the battery (still sleaves for the iphone) an put it on the mat.
It's brilliant technology, and it is still very very new. Hell, I remember being in a Physics lecture a few years ago and being told a proof of concept had been done, but the power transfer was negligible. I won't be buying one until they are cheaper / more efficient, but its a brilliant technique.

Yes, but being an electronics engineer a can tell you the coil and regulation electronics needed to capture the energy are nearly the size of the HD2's battery itself - so in the case of the HD2 if possible at all the battery would have a ridiculously low capacity.
So if they release self-contained batteries, that will be only for a few phones which have big enough batteries to put the electronics while keeping a decent capacity, which will obviously be reduced (and I really wouldn't want any smaller capacity on the HD2...)
And turn phone off, take battery out, put other one in, put empty one on a mat, reboot phone? Having to buy at least 2 batteries to be able to swap? Instead of just plugging a microusb plug? No thanks...

Well... so far I've ordered a 3500mah extended battery from Hong Kong.. but as I believe this will take rather a long time to get here... I've ordered another one from the UK as well from ECELL, which apparently has a silver extended cover.
I'm well aware that these are likely cack batteries and I have a plan for that
Basically I'm hoping that whichever one I consider to be the worst will either die on me... or I will simply end it's life prematurely. I am going to cut open the battery (Carefully!) and try to replace the cell's with two Genuine OEM 1500 mah batteries, for a true 3000mah. I bit elaborate but I think it should be possible as long as I cut in the right places.
EDIT: I found genuine LG batteries for about £8.50 each plus about £5 postage, so will order 2 batteries for around £22. They are special order though, so will take 14-28 days. (I am also getting them to confirm the capacity is defo 1500mah, as no point buying them otherwise.)

Well.. I was getting a little impatient... so when I was really tired (and may just a little to drink), I ordered one from ECELL on ebay. It had a silver cover and a 3600mah battery (We all know it isn't that much), and was listed for the 2x P990. Turns up.. it's for the LG Optimus S :-( Bummer. Just trying to get a return/refund.
So... experiment is delayed somewhat.
Update: Two LG OEM batteries have been ordered ; The incorrect extended battery sent back ; Still awaiting the HK Extended battery. Bizarrely I thought I actually ordered a 2nd UK based battery.. but I was so tired I think I forgot to do it lol. Can't wait to have a play with these

With that in mind I have ordered two antenna's of different types to see which one fits (expensive.. but then at least we all know )

Apparently the LG batteries have been dispatched now, so should get them within a few days. Only annoying thing is that even LG were unable to confirm whether these batteries I'm getting are 1500mah. I will be gutted if they are not lol.
btw.. you should see my desk at present at home. I have about 5 phones, four of them in bits awaiting tinkering, LED bike lights (all modified), circuit boards from laptops everywhere, reparing a 4x 18650 battery pack + routers etc lol. And I just realised that I actually don't know where my soldering iron is ROFL. Must dig one out.
Anyway... I'm looking forward to it and if I can get it working, I'll put up pics etc. I'm very interested in trying to get the temp sensor working (although I realise it may only work for one of the batteries.).

Genuine LG batteries have just arrived about 30 seconds ago. They are 1500mah
So with the delivery charge added in they were £11.04 each (£8.49 each without delivery charge). So if you ordered more it would be less due to the one time delivery charge of £5.10. Not bad for a 1500mah genuine battery! Batteries dated 10/09/2011.

On my first run it lastest almost 2 days on stock rom, with a fair amount of use. I would prob say only around 2000mah at a guess though.
I'm just trying to get it to run down again for a 2nd charge now.
Once all that's done, I'll open it up and start tinkering I will have to get both the LG batteries to the same state of charge as well (same voltage level) before hooking them up.)
Bear in mind I've spent £22 on original batteries that I am about to hack open for the cells inside, so there is no going back lol. Pretty expensive mistake if I **** it up relatively speaking.

no doubt it could be an expensive mistake, but if u succeed which i think you will the results will be probably a 4 day battery. so i think its worth it
i got the 2450Mah battery and it holds about 2 days with medium usage, so im really thrilled about ure test as i dont care about the size of the phone,

I charged the battery again last night, and rapid drained it running bluetooth (nothing connected), some GPS usage and wifi with smartshare running a video across from my NAS drive. In the morning it was down to about 25 percent so tried GPS on cycle to work and then drained it with music and GPS until 1%. Charged it without using it, and it's reporting about 1900mah estimated for the battery. I don't rate the estimator as highly accurate btw, but it's a guide .
I will try to take the battery apart tonight if I can. Not sure on best way to open it though, as I will need to reuse the carcass.
Damn.. was taking it apart and fried the circuit it came with. Unfortunately the metal legs that bring power from either side slipped off and touch the outer shell of the battery, was enough for a small yellow spark :-( oh well. (EDIT: Hmm.. circuit may still be alive actually...)
It's two batteries pressed together with several layers of thin plastic between them, either for insulation, spacing or both. I'm actually pretty surprised the cells weren't isolated better from each other.
Update 1: Well, for the first time.. I just managed to burn myself with electricity opps. These packs are really badly isolated. Shorted it on the tip of my finger... beginning to hurt lol. There are NO ratings on these batteries whatsoever. However, one thing they are is... amazingly well balanced. Just measured them and they are both exactly 3.78V's.
Update 2: The circuit and LG Battery will NOT fit directly into the old casing. There will need to either a mod to the extended casing, or we'll just have to 'go without', and make a casing up. It's looking like it's best to do without using the old battery at all actually, and just wire the two batteries together using the LG circuitry. (Well only one of the circuits).
Update 3: Will dig out the soldering iron tonight and get this double battery running
Update 4: Have VERY BADLY soldered the batteries together and combined battery is now charging in the phone. Due to the excess solder on the sides the battery is not quite proper fit, so I will have to redo it at some point. Really very dissappointed with how awful the soldering is, I will simply HAVE to redo it once this experiment is tested. Any tips on a soldering iron chaps? On the plus side, the one thing I do get is a temperature reading :-D
Tip number 1: Quickly snip the circuit off first and DO NOT let it touch the side of the battery casing, it will short out.

Points of interest
A) The extended battery is EXACTLY double the width of an LG battery.
B) LG OEM Batteries are made by Sanyo
C) Don't use a conventional soldering iron... it is almost impossible to solder the negative side and you will end up overheating the battery if you are not careful. (Any tips here guys?)

Technique... used the 'flashlight' app to keep the LED on, turned on bluetooth, turned on wifi, and use smartshare to stream a movie (at full screen brightness) to the phone. Played Dungeon Defenders for a while as well at full brighness so hopefully the graphics core would take more power. Battery Temp got as high as 40C under 1400mah draw. Odd thing was that battery widget pro at times reported +25000 Mah(ish), yes PLUS '+', and 25000mah, that's just insane..not sure where it was getting the figures from :-(
7% battery left when I put it down, voltage was 3.550 or very close. This morning, voltage it still had 7% left and voltage had increased to 3.7 ish. Guessing it's because the battery was warm last night when under heavy strain, and now it's relaxed and cooled it's feeling better lol. (Or maybe something else?)
Running gps client down now in attempt to drain the rest before recharging. Ideally want to get it down to 1% before a full charge.

share with us ure images / knowledge its sounds really cool doing.
I basically copied what they had done on the 3500mah battery, and merely connected up the positive to positive and negative to negative terminals of the batteries using thin strips of metal, and only used one circuit from the LG battery. Basically I parallel the batteries to increase capacity.
I used a small spacer to keep the batteries seperated, but thinking about it, I could have use the bodies themselves as the 'negative' but it wouldn't have been a good connection). I then just taped the battery up and use the 3500mah battery sticker to hold it all together.
This really is just a 'prove it works' / prototype, and I will remake it neater, although I may have to buy a better soldering iron.

Note: After charging back up from 1% this morning to 100%, the 'estimated' mah by Battery Widget Pro is 1551mah. This would indicate to me that one battery is not connected properly unfortunately. I'm gonna run the battery and see how long it lasts under general usage. If it lasts only a day and a half, then I suspect I will have to resolder.
I bought a 3500mah half a year back and it wasn't any good. Twice the width but lasts the same as the original one. It'll be good if you could show us some pictures? I may consider making one too!
To be fair the estimated capacity of the 3500mah was around 1800 to 2000 mah. Pretty good considering it came with an extended back cover for under £5. It does seem entirely random though, and I was never comfortable without a temperature sensor.
The work I have done so far is rubbish to be honest. I thought I'd make a better job of soldering. I will have to redo it, as the fit is terrible due to the solder being too big/messy, and the connections are not very or or not working/broken.
Can't wait to see the results.

For some reason, battery widget pro was recording very high mah draw/drain. I do not believe I soldered the negative terminals well enough. I took it apart and tried to prise a little flap of metal up for soldering, and managed to rip the terminal off the pack. I will do my best to remedy this of course and let you chaps know the result.
I also have the 3500 mAH and I was wondering if it was really giving 3500 mAH. I'm getting about 1.5 days on this battery with moderate usage. Heavy usage I get about a day. I wonder what I'm doing wrong. I think it's supposed to last longer.

Not worth it, there are many other cheaper options. This could have been a great device if they'd applied common sense and designed it such that it charged your phone at the same time. I think it's a stupid idea to remove your battery everyday to charge - that just greatly increases the chances that you'l break the phone.
Samsung needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. This is a really idiotic idea to put it kindly. I'll be getting the note, but I'll be avoiding this stupid dock at all costs!!!
This is not a dock. It is a battery charger that doubles as a stand. By not having a protruding USB connector, it allows the phone to be placed in landscape mode - great for movie watching.
The idea is not to remove the battery to charge it but rather to have a second battery ready and waiting, swapping them as needed I've been using this method with both my SG2s for about a year. The very flimsy plastic covers did withstand the abuse quite well.
I may or may not get this stand for the SGN2. The battery seems to last quite a long time, so I may not need to have a second one. Besides, the SG2 stand works well enough with the SGN2.
Having said this, not everyone will feel confortable with the constant removal of the cover and will prefer a "proper" phone charger/dock.
Yes, this setup is not for everyone, my main point was that it looks better than the external battery charger for the Note 1 battery, and for those that are familiar with it. It did the same thing, but looked cheaper and more like a generic no name unit you might buy off eBay.
If I had a spare battery, I'd rather charge it like this than have to use the phone.
If you want a dock, I use the GS3 one for my Note 1 and it works well.
There is no width restriction, so any phone with a usb port on the bottom should work. It even still works with the rubber gel case on my phone.
Audio out via the usb is handy too.

That would annoy me for everyday use.
I actually like this a lot. Even though it would've been nice if they also designed it as a dock, this fits into my current daily habits with the Photon.
That was my setup with OG Note and plan to do the same with N2.
No more situations were you just don't want to grab your phone because it's charging. Or take second spare with you if you need etc.

I just collected my Note II from the webshop and found that the 'old' (SGN) docking station can be used, applying some duck tape or other to compensate the slightly less wide & thinner design of the Note II.
The nice thing about the old docking station is that it charges the device and can be used on its side (movie watching) as well. There seems to be no similar docking station for the Note II available/planned so it really is the only way atm to charge in landscape mode (besides of course charging in portrait mode).

The idea is not to remove the battery to charge it but rather to have a second battery ready and waiting, swapping them as needed I've been using this method with both my SG2s for about a year. The very flimsy plastic covers did withstand the abuse quite well.
I may or may not get this stand for the SGN2. The battery seems to last quite a long time, so I may not need to have a second one. Besides, the SG2 stand works well enough with the SGN2.
Having said this, not everyone will feel confortable with the constant removal of the cover and will prefer a "proper" phone charger/dock.

I agree, I use my i9300 with an external charger and spare battery and it works great. Whenevef I drain my battery I just swap it out with my spare. I never have to plug my phone into a charger and wait for it to charge.

But, if you have a spare battery you will need to remove the case and back cover anyway...
The only reason you would buy this charger is if you have a spare battery...It would be pointless to buy it if you only have 1 battery that could stay in your phone the whole time
If I had a spare battery, I'd rather charge it outside of the phone, rather than have to have my phone tied to the charger whilst I charge up 2 batteries.
Or, have the ability to charge up one battery in the phone and another in the external charger at the same time eg. 2 dead (or almost dead) batteries at the end of the day, go to sleep with the phone charger and the spare in the external charger, wake up and the phone and spare are ready to go. Without an external charger, you need to either wake up in the middle of the night to swap the batteries in your phone, or allow a couple of hours in the morning before you leave to charge the 2nd battery.

I have it by N7000. It is very simple with usb port. It is versatile with all smartphone, psp and compact camera. It has capacity of 5600 mAh and it is very small than large pack of gum.The full charge takes 6 hours
So I got one of these, doesn't come with wall plug or USB cable I am guessing it's designed to be used with the original note 2 wall charger? or will any USB wall charger work? Just worried about using a wall adaptor with the right amount of watts etc

I got the one from Samsung's online US store and it comes with .7 amp usb charger. But the unit itself will suck the appropriate power it needs so using the same charger that comes with your phone (2 amp charger) is fine.

I've got this stand and it's really nice, but I'd prefer to have one that charged the phone and the battery at the same time. Anyone see one of those? I don't need the full smart dock with USB connections ... though that would be nice if it also charged a spare battery.
So I just received the ZeroLemon Note 5 8500mAh Extended Charger Case that ZeroLemon sent me to review. Here are my initial thoughts, along with some pictures.
-IT IS HUGE! Just like the ZeroLemon 3500mAh battery case, the battery is separate from the case. Unlike the 3500mAh battery though, this battery is almost as big as the phone itself, falling about 2mm shorter on both length and width. But the battery is about 3mm thicker than the phone. With the battery and case on the phone, it is about 1.5x as thick as normal.
-It actually feels better in my hands than the 3500mAh version. Despite this case being so much bigger than the 3500mAh version, I actually like the way it fits in my hands better. The design of the case is a big improvement over the 3500mAh version. It does add more weight than the 3500mAh version, but it feels like it is distributed more evenly due to the size and shape of the battery.
-Unfortunately the battery alone does not fast charge my Note 5. This was a complaint I had on the 3500mAh version as well, and I am dissapointed to see that it is still an issue with this battery case. I have not found any information as to why fast charging isn't implemented, though I have a few possible ideas. I have reached out to ZeroLemon for clarification and will update when I head anything.
-The battery does pass through fast charging when connected to my Aukey 3-port USB charger (1 of the ports is fast charge). The battery alone does not fast charge, but it is nice to see that ZeroLemon is able to pass fast charging through the battery to the phone.
-The battery has a full sized USB 2.0 Type-A connector for charging other devices. This is an interesting feature that I have not seen before. I charged my Note 5 with this port, and just like the MicroUSB port this does not fast charge my phone. The odd thing about this USB port is that when I plug my phone into that port, and than plug the battery in to charge from my wall outlet that port stops working and my phone stops charging. I have reached out to ZeroLemon to find out why that is.
-If I plug my phone into the battery, and than plug the battery into my Samsung Fast Charge external battery it also passes fast charge through.
-The 8500mAh battery case came with an extra curved MicroUSB to MicroUSB adapter, but no headphne jack extender. The distance to the headphone jack is about the same as the 3500mAh version which did come with an extender. Since this is a unit sent to me for free to review, they may have left it out. I have contacted ZeroLemon to find out.
So far this is all I have. I will post an update on a few days after I have used the battery case with more information on how long the battery lasts.

i would love to know the difference! I have been trying to decide on the two and will be ordering one by the end of next week after my charging port gets fixed.

I would highly recommend the 8500mAh version over the 3500mAh version. They both have similar downsides, like the battery alone won't fast charge, but I actually like the size of the 8500mAh version better. I have a car mount that works with the 8500mAh version but not the 3500mAh version. Also, if I am going to have a huge phone because of the battery case, I would rather it actually help my phone last 2 or more days on a single charge. The 3500mAh battery wouldn't charge my phone from 0 to 100%, the 8500mAh battery will do that, I haven't fully tested how many times it will go from 0 to 100%, but so far it seems like it should be at least 1.5x if not 2x

Can you also open the battery compartment and snap a few pics to show the internals? I have the 3500 and the circuitry is confined to the bottom of the enclosure. I'd be curious to know if there is separate circuitry up at the type A connector or just a line going to the circuit board at the bottom.

I don't know how to open this battery. I don't know how you opened the 3500mAh battery, but I don't see a way to open that battery either.

The seam is pretty easy to pry open with a thumbnail or a flathead screwdriver. Let me know if this helps.

Ah, that is quite interseting. I don't think it would be so easy with this one. The battery is sealed similarly to their extended batteries for the LG G3 and Galaxy S4. There is no cover to pop off, I would have to unwrap it, which I am unwilling to do at this point in time.

It looks like there is a seam in the pictures on Amazon but it is not super clear. Can you post closer pictures of the side that faces the phone?

I have looked at the 8500mAh battery closer. There is no seam on it. As I said, there is overlapping white paper glued down on all sides.

The thing is this one is sealed all around. Unlike the 3500 version. And I don't want to peel this off & have a sticky mess with glue residue.

Has anyone found a suitable belt clip setup for this case yet? Im all in but putting this thing in even my pocket is going to be impossible. No belt clip kind of limits the case to women who carry bags..

Sorry for taking so long to reach you. Please kindly note that this battery pack only passthroughs quick charge but not supports quick charge.
The reason why we don’t include quick charge to this battery pack is because of these three limitations which are our major concerns.
First reason is that the larger IC board used to accommodate QuickCharge will reduce the capacity of the battery pack which is against our intention to provide high capacity battery case.
Secondly, if the battery pack and the phone both have QuickCharge activated, it is possible that the phone will overheat to an unsafe level.
At last, QuickCharge Support requires Qualcomm certification which significantly increases the cost of the product due to further licensing and testing cost; as a result, the price will be higher.
Regarding to the issue with the Type A micro USB port, for better protection to the battery pack, the battery pack can not be charged and discharged at the same time.
And for the earphone jack adapter, most headphones are supposed to be able to plug into the headphone jack as tested by our tech team. If you do need one, we will send it to you for free. Please keep in contact with us to let us know your opinion. Anyone who needs earphone jack adapters can contact our customer support to get one.

ZeroLemon released a belt clip. It is a little bit dissapointing the 8500mAh battery case doesn't include this. Both my LG G3 and Galaxy S4 ZeroLemon extended baterries came with a belt clip. Idk why the change with the Note 5, but it is dissapointing.

Looking at the picture it appears you can only mount the phone with the screen facing the inside. This would make the kickstand feature kind of pointless. Has anyone here tried the belt clip?
I'm switching from a Note 4 and swap out these super thin batteries almost daily.
All the batteries that are on Amazon that support quick charge seem to be mostly 10,000mAh and up. But I'm not looking for super big batteries.
I could work with a 4,000-6,000mAh battery pack that can recharge the phone at least one. If I go on a long trip, I'd rather carry only one in my pocket and then another in my backpack.
Is there a thin and short one that can fit comfortably in my jeans pocket?

I was looking for the same a while ago and couldn't find any that size. Seems like the aukey 6Ah is the closest you'll get that's available now. For this phone I'm considering getting the Samsung battery backpack.

I just hate having to carry a battery pack and making the phone thicker just to accommodate having extra battery during the day.

A rubber band can keep them together.. but then I worry about the heat while charging. Plus it takes 3-6 hours to charge which is crazy.
I guess I have to wait for something better to come along. In the meantime, I ordered the silver S7 Edge.
I will also order the Auckey 6,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 I linked below and the Anker Astro E1 5200mAh Candy bar, which doesn't have Quick Charge, but supposedly does high speed charging and try them out.
It sucks that I will go from carrying an extra 3220mAh battery that weighs less than 45 grams and smaller than 3 credit cards to carrying something bigger than a candy bar and weighing 136 grams (and this doesnt even include the size of the cable when plugged in). But I guess that's progress??

I had that for my Nexus 6 and it was okay, but very inefficient. I don't think it's worth the $$ unless it had a higher capacity.
