Hi, I got the stock JVB running with supercurios hacked kernel and ext4 lagfix applied. I want to flash Juwes ROM 4.1 now. There are 2 versions, one with WIPE and one without WIPE. I am planning to flash the NO WIPE version to keep my apps and settings.
Do I have to undo the ext4 lagfix before flashing? Juwe says "to make sure", that does sound kind of optional...
I already did a lagfix-undo once and I experienced FCs after it.
Just installed it without lagfix-undo and without any wipes. everything seems to work fine so far.

Lets say im already on serendipity 7, naturally i have the GB bootloaders. Can I flash any GB ROM over serendipity, or do some GB firmwares not play well with others when flashing one over another?
Or is it pretty straight forward, if I'm already on Gingerbread, im good to go as far as flashing any other gingerbread ROM over the one im on?
yes it should be pretty straight forward...unless you are switching to continuum(which has talon kernel and cwm 3) you need to odin talon first and then flash continuum from the orange cwm. if you were going to any other gb rom, say mosaic for example, just wiping data/factory reset, wiping cache, and wiping dalvik cache then flashing the rom will be fine.
oh if youve done any converting to EXT4 (chainfire app, or voodoo lagfix) convert back to rfs first.
In the threads for each rom it should say which bootloaders its running and from which model, if it matches what you have it'll work. Just be careful with CM7 and MIUI because they use custom ones.
Experiencing a few issues.
I want to flash a fresh version of Milkys rom because the current version I have won't let me flash a new theme.
I have the current version backed up and can restore it everytime and it works fine.
Flashing a new copy doesnt work. I get force closures and other issues such as partial themes.
I've flashed back to JPU and JPY and I can then update to JVO through kies without issue.
Even then, I don't get the result I know I should get when flashing Milkys rom. For example, there is no theme.
If I try to factory reset or clearing cache etc, I just get bootloops.
I then restore the original version of the rom that I have backed up and it works fine but I can't flash themes or rather they make no difference and I can't factory reset for the same reasons as above.
Whats going on ?
Do I need to wipe the int sd card at all ? What is safe to delete ? What do I need to get rid of ?
Help !
Please !!
The best thing you can do is a complete format of your sd card in recovery mode.
Btw pay attention, you MUST reflash with odin a deodexed stock JVx (the base rom your theme needs) because just kernel and bootloaders (if i remeber well) should remain on your SD!
Then wipe everything, dalvik cache included.
After that you can put on your SD the theme and then install it by recovery.
PS: this way will erase your backups also, so copy that file to your computer to get back (if you need to).
ok. Fed up now lol
Formatted sd card from recovery and checked it is clean.
Using Odin, flashed JVR.
Using odin flashed Milky v1.2. About phone says I have the rom but zero theming.
Put onto the clean sdcard the milky 1.3 patch and a theme zip.
Flashed the 1.3 patch, rebooted and then flashed the theme but I can't get any theming at all.
Whats up with this damn thing ?
Oh and everytime I'm doing a factory reset in Milky I'm getting bootloops. Is this cos the lagfix is active ?
Ofc, if you have lagfix you must disable them before any kind of installation

Milky's is ODEXed. Are you sure you have ODEX theme you try to install?
If you try DEODEXed theme, it won't work.
Yeah, it was an odexed theme.
Hello,
First I want to say sorry because my english isn't on a high level.
I'm a SGS user for some months and I flashed it many times ago (MIUI, CM7, other custom roms...). Now I'm on "teamhacksung ICS 4.0" by... lets say 1-2months.
I was thinking of upgrading to the latest version of your ROM and wanted to use to try to leave my SGS as if it was just purchased.
I was wondering which is the most appropriate way to do it.
As much as I wanted (I started looking more than 1 hour ago) I have not enlighten.
I searched about clean "Stock ROMS" but I think that I will not be able go to into CWM and I will not be able to install again CM9 via .zip
So.. whats the solution???!!!!!! I'm getting crazy...
Thanks guys.
Do a factory reset and clear catched data

1. in CWM factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. advanced > wipe dalvik cache
4. mount & storage > format sdcard
5. install an Kernel cleaning script (like this one from lippo) under install zip (from an e.g. extern sdcard)
6. than flash a rom 2 a clean system
there you go

1. So with that, I won't lose "Root" and the "CWM" wich I have at my phone?
2. Doing that will clean completly the system?
3. It isn't better to first install a stock rom (eg JVT or JVU), install a kernel that makes me automatically "Root" and installs "CWM", and then install CM9?
I don't know wich "kernel" or "rom" I have at the moment under my CM9 (...maybe I'm confusing concepts...).
Thank you so much!

1. You will lose Root and CWM, cause you go back to stock.
2. No. To format "as from the store" you need to flash stock gingerbread - JVU, JVT, with repartition checked in Odin (it wipes also sd card);
3 After you install stock gb, flash a rooted kernel, like CF-Root or Semaphore and then flash ICS.
CM7 and Gingerbread(GB) are Android 2.3.x
CM9 and ICSSGS and other are Android 4.0.x
Make sure what you have. Cm9 is another build than ICSSGS.

Well.. if you are on Vodafone in Europe, use XXJVU (don't forget to check repartition). You can find it on Sammobile.com or here on XDA. Flash that one. Then flash Semaphore 2.5.0 (not 2.5.0 BM).
After that you can copy on your phone the rom that you want. I am on ICSSGS. I found it the best (this is up to you).
For the modem, you have to try to see which one has the best reception in your area. In Romania, i use JVT and JVU. Both work fine.
After you flash ICS, you can also try KF1 and KB3 for modems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1548815
As a further reference, ICSSGS has a RC5 in testing, and in the next few days will be updated to 4.0.4 because Google has started releasing the sources.
My aging i9000 is still on 2.2.1 Darkyrom 4.2 and DarkCore1.0 kernel.
2.2.1 xxjve to be precise...
Should i do anything besides wipe it completely before attempting CM9 nightly ?
Installing via DarkCore's CWM ? Odin ? Odin settings, guide for froyo-2-ics ?
Any advice before i screw something up ?
1)install gingerbread first in your phone using odin...
2)install semaphore odin kernel then for that particular gingerbread rom..
3)go to recovery do all kind of wipes, wipde data factory rest then wipe cache then wipe dalvik cache..
4)install zip and then install cm9 or better try trimislim 1.1
Apart from that, backup your EFS folder. And don't worry about lagfix (a big cuestion coming from darky to ics).
I did the same way and I'm pleased with ics. And you will be impressed, because there are a lot of differences between froyo and ics. A lot.
Can someone point me to files needed to flash stock gingerbread ? (Rom, kernel)..
Too many out there...
You should go well with flashing the zip from download.cyanogenmod.com twice, first from darky recovery, then from cm9 recovery.
For a kernel I recommend Devil2 ICS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445214
but it is not necessary.
Hello,
I have samsung galaxy S i9000 and i'm using Darky's ROM v10.2.2 (android 2.3.4, JVQ). I want TAJB. Can I flash TAJB over Darky's ROM using CWM?
Thanks.
Absolutely, yes

Personally if I want to go from a GB to JB ROM, I flash ICS first and then flash a JB ROM.
What I do is:-
(1) Wipe Cache partition, dalvik cache and data factory reset.
(2) Install zip from SD-card --> Flash ROM (I flash SLIM ICS ROM here)
(3) Here you might experience Boot Loops. Dont worry, just remove the battery, put the battery back in and try to goto recovery (the toughest part - It takes me a lot of attempts to goto recovery).
(4) Repeat step 2 --> Flash the ROM again
(5) Reboot.
Repeat the process from ICS to JB rom.
Hopefully this helps
I ask you because DarkyROM needs lagfix + system lagfix enabled. So if it's REALLY REALLY possible, thank you
P.S: Must I turn off lagfix?
It's always a good idea to do a full wipe if you're moving over to any of the Jelly Bean roms.
I'm no dev, but the partition layouts are different and if you have a lot of apps already installed it may cause major problems.
So I suggest you do a clean install. You should also try the CM10 Alpha build by pawitp, it's very fast and quite reliable.
I hope this helped!
Thx!
So, I'm going to do full wipe, turn off lagfix, install ics first, then do another full wipe, finally install jelly bean. No need of odin.
