Greetings All,
Just bought a HD7 from Telstra in Australia and I have a simple question regarding the ROM currently on it in regards to receiving updates on the device.
What I am really after is the ability to free myself from Telstra in an official way.
I'd like a Vanilla ROM for my HD7 that will still allow me to receive updates from Microsoft and/or HTC as they are released, cutting out the 'Approval Time' set by Telstra. (Telstra is one of two carriers worldwide that still hasn't released NoDo for their network - I'm scared to even ask about the HTC Specific update released just after NoDo)
Is what I'm asking to do impossible?
I can see the ROM available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=993186
It looks official enough, but I'd like confirmation that this ROM will still allow me to receive updates as I've heard that people hacking ROMS/Updates onto their devices won’t be receiving future updates.
A secondary request would be help unlocking of said ROM so that I can tinker with the registry, side load apps ect, but at the moment I'd just like the ability to receive updates as they are released.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Frist: Gratz to your HD7!
Depending on your country laws, a modification of the preinstalled rom is not legal or at least voids your warranty. (thankfully in germany its only the latter, which makes no effect bevause you can flash back to an operator ROM for warranty reasons).

It is possible to flash any compatible rom (HD7 ROM) on your device. See this thread for a howto. The other way is that ansar provides a hacked rom that you can update without goldcard. (See the threads of him in the dev Froums). But keep in mind that they are modified by ansar and therefore not really official. (I use one of them on my phone atm, without any problems)

This rom is a telstra rom with OS Verion 7389. The official OS verion is 7390. So if you flash this one, you still will get an update via zune (the 7390 one). I did not see any differencec between 7389 and 7390.

You want an dev-unlock via chevron. Just search a bit around, there are many informations out in the web how to do that.

It was possible to force a NoDo Update via chevron (that has nothing to do with dev-unlock or flashing a rom on you rdevice). If you do this (force the nodo update via chevron) you possibly won't get any further updates.
Hope i helped

Huh? I thought Ansar's ROMs were just various branded/unbranded ROMs? Pretty sure you can't install a truly modified ROM with a locked bootloader, right? Some people have security unlocked phones, and can thus flash whatever they want. In my case, though, Ansar's TMOUS ROM system image has the exact same md5 as Football's stock...therefore, I'm assuming it still has MS signatures intact. Flashing anything without a signature fails at 0% on my phone.
I was under the impression that Ansar's unbranded ROMs take advantage of the fact that certain branded phones (O2 for example?) simply allow flashing of unbranded ROMs (or other still signed bootloaders, which allow flashing of unbranded ROMs)? Is this anywhere near correct?

I have flashed a ROM from ansar to unbrand my HD7 from O2. But i can't flash a HTC Europe ROM (invalid vendor ID). I'm not sure if they are hacked or not but dorianmuthig stated here that they are.
Maybe ansar himself can bring in some light.
Thanks for the info ST13Hogan, your a champion.
Basically, the method to use would be to flash to the ROM I mentioned in the original post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=993186
Then unlock the ROM using the dev-unlock tools.
Then upgrade the device to recieve NoDo.
This will still leave me at the mercy of Telstra for updates though will it not? Pretty sure they still haven't approved NoDo for their network so I'll have to wait till it gets approved before i can do this.
Thanks again.
Estens.
On a somewhat related note, i found this article and it looks rather interesting.
Can anyone confirm that this works as it may be exactly what i've been looking for.

Hi All,
A friend of mine has a Vodafone uk Nexus One (whilst I have a Three UK Desire lol), and I used to have a T-Mobile UK G1. One of the things you could do with that (and from experiences with friends' Heros) was create a goldcard and flash a google unbranded image.
Question is, can that be done with the Nexus one? I know how to create goldcards, but I don't see any RUU exe files anywhere. Obviously he'd like to get froyo asap and avoid the voda delays in future too.
So, he doesn't want to do custom roms, just would like to have the option of stock roms and ideally OTA updates when google give them not when voda mess about with them and eventualy release them. He doesn't want to void the warranty though, so as I understand it, fastbooting a .img file is out as he'd have to unlock the bootloader?

Hmm, unrooted nexii one are able to flash froyo without a goldcard, no idea about branded handsets. I'd suggest finding the link for frf91(latest froyo build) somewhere around these boards, chucking it on the sdcard as update.zip and hope for the best.
Maybe get the noradio .zip first, just incase it goes terribly wrong. I doubt it will though, it will either work or not flash at all, so give it a try.
We tried using a goldcard with an frf91 universal rom (i.e. the direct from google signed zip), but it failed verifiation on the phone's update system. I'm assuming RUU checked for goldcard but the standard recovery ignores goldcards
Anyone got any more suggestions?
Root the phone / unlock the bootloader, and flash whatever you want. There is no "unbranding", since Nexus isn't branded. It's just that there is no stock update that is based on your version (EPF21?), so no update will be executed.
He can try the "non-voiding-warranty" root, though it's specified to work for Froyo. If it doesn't work for him - he can try the PASSIMG.zip way of upgrading to some version that will allow root. If that fails too - oh well... Either root the usual way, unlocking bootloader, or accept the fate.

You can try the tutorial at http://bloginblack.de/2010/07/how-t...e-google-nexus-one-from-epf30-to-froyo-today/
I had same issues as my N1 was EPF30 build probably a EU one and the above tutorial helped me get all the new updates OTA, because to the best of my knowledge Froyo is not yet available OTA in EU, atleast that's what i found in google
Cheers
I want to flash a clean stock ROM on my T-Mobile HD7 and I need to know which one to go for ?
the leaked Nodo ROM or the one posted by Ansar.
(In the Bootloader it says 'Security Unlocked' on the top of the phone)
Is the Goldcard method the only way and I want to know after I flash this ROM would it be updateable in future via Zune ?
Also where can I find the tutorials where I can learn more about this ?
Doing a search on the forums would yield directions and information on everything you've asked.
How to Flash a new ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876451
As for stock ROMs, the European ROMs (unbranded ones) from HTC, would be as stock as you can get. This would come stock with only HTC apps installed, which of course, can be easily removed. This would be the NoDo one posted. You aren't going to find a true stock app, since there are none available.
The branded T-Mobile ROMs of course, come with some T-Mobile apps (that can be easily removed), and very little customization. Most important, they include preset configuration settings for T-Mobile services such as data connectivity (though this can be configured to any HTC phone with the HTC Connection Setup app), and most importantly, the latest software radios for phone use in the United States.
If you choose a device with radios outside the USA or made for a different network, you may notice varied battery life, call reception and quality, and varied data throughput.
Because you say your device is security unlocked, you should have no trouble installing a ROM for the HD7 from any region, without goldcard. I think.
original t-mobile rom for hd7
i have htc hd7 changed my rom to HD7_TMOUS_2.20.841.02_Radio_5.65.09.11a_22.44.50.1 5_NoDo, by ansar and tried to do chevronwp7 and i think i should have done chevron first before the rom. i dont know if there is a way to unlock my phone with chevron with the nodo rom already installed but thinking i should revert back to original rom then chevron it but where can i get that rom since i had t-mobile. or is there a way for me to unlock with chevronwp7 even with the installed TMOUS_2.20.841.02_Radio_5.65.09.11a_22.44.50.1 5_NoDo, by ansar (no worries i figured it out , no need for reply)

First windows phone ever, skilled in android as well as older phones (think motorola seem editing, LOL) I just have no idea about this. I recently bought mine on craigslist and the guy added the nodo update like 2 days before I bought it, How did you revert to stock tmobile and chevronwp7 it? I want to sideload apps!
Hi,
Firstly apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere - I have had a look and couldn't find anything specific to my needs.
Basically, my question is...Is there a custom ROM for the HD7 which consists ONLY of Interop Unlock and no other changes from stock functionality?
I am looking to be able to use WP7 Root Tools on my HD7 but I do not want to use one of these crazy custom ROMS - no offense to the guys who put in the hard work to make 'em, it's just not what I'm looking for - I just want a stock Mango ROM, but I want it to be interop-unlocked.
Here's the progress I've made so far:
-My device is currently unbranded Europe (was previously O2UK but flashed an unbranded NoDo ROM back in the day) upgraded all the way to 8107. This means that I'm on a bootloader version > 5.10. Fortunately then, I am capable of using this method to downgrade my bootloader as I have a 401 (European) phone. I have the original unbranded NoDo ROM which I flashed when it first came out, which should have a low enough bootloader version.
-After that, I should be capable of flashing an RSPL/HSPL to my device, although I'm not sure exactly how to go about that. The instructions in this thread seem like a good place to start.
-Once that is achieved, I could theoretically grab the 7720 ROM from here, and edit it to include Interop Unlock. Then, flash it to my phone, run WP7 Root Tools, and I'm good to go! This is obviously the part I'm most likely to have issues with, I'm not exactly a ROM chef, and it doesn't look very beginner friendly
Hence my question: Is there a custom ROM already out there (presumably it would have to have Mango v1 drivers) which will be as close to stock as possible but with InteropUnlock so I can run WP7RootTools?
OR: Can I simplify these steps in any way?
Thanks for any replies... meanwhile, I'm going to continue my research!
Yeah...I'd say your on the right track. Use ansars SLSPL method for Europe devices to downgrade your SPL and using Shadows tutorial to install RSPL/HSPL. You can also get the 2nd rom needed for the SLSPL method from Shadows tutorial. The hard part is going to be adding in an unlock to the rom. I know this isn't the answer that your wanting but your best bet would be to find a custom rom that is as close to stock as possible!
Heh, thanks. I figured as much.
Well, it turns out that this needn't necessarily be as complicated as all that - I've just discovered that my student App Hub registration is still live (I could have sworn it had run out, as I was unable to dev-unlock my phone) but since updating to that latest Tango which just became available today, I am able to dev-unlock my phone again!
So, slightly different question: are dev-unlocks only possible with the most recent firmware? (Surely unlikely given the current status of firmware rollouts)
The reason I was unable to unlock my phone previously was possibly because of registry tweaks made down the line - I kept getting "error check the phone's time and date are correct" when the time and date were obviously correct.
If it is still possible to dev-unlock a device running Mango, then I can simply use ansar's SLSPL method to go straight to Mango 7720, dev-unlock, Interop-unlock, install WP7RootTools and mission accomplished
EDIT: Well, there goes that plan - while my device is currently on 401 (Europe firmware) it is not actually a 401 device (as it was previously o2UK branded) so I can't use ansar's method....time to go and find me a USB Y-cable!
Hello everybody. My phone is bought with contract on Orange in UK, software is 1.28.61.7, but the phone isn't carrier locked. May it be the reason why I don't get update to 1.29... with new camera update and so on? Maybe the phone may be different form international version in this way? Is there any way of making my phone to international eupopean version (if it isn;t now)? After everything i want to have my phone not-rooted, and get updates from htc ota with everybody else... Don't know, if i asked correctly and everybody understand me, but thanks in advanced anyway.
Umh, also in germany O2 One aren't branded, but the update is released from O2, in fact, O2 phone can't see and don't have 1.29.401.12 version...
They have 1.29.209.xx version, i don't remeber which with precision.
However, i resolved this problem with root and flashing a custom rom
EE seems to be the slowest of all the UK carriers at pushing out updates, you'll probably be waiting for another good few weeks yet. Might want to try this rom since apparently you can keep OTA updates with it:

If you flash stock boot.img and recovery.img it should, yeah. Coming from Samsung myself it was a bit weird getting things going initially, read through this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
Hey there everyone
(TLDR version on bottom)
I've got a somewhat problem on my hand,
I did search this forum, but didn't find the real answers to my question
I was on holiday in china last month, and i got the brilliant idea of buying my HTC One there instead of in my country, The netherlands
Now it seems my Blinkfeed on HTC wont be able to show English or Dutch news or Facebook updates, Nor do I have the Play Store.
so i went to a HTC servicecenter, they told me there is nothing much they can do about it.. and one of the employers told me to visit this website and "Flash a ROM" (since i have no warranty anyway)... now.. I'm a Complete and utter noob with phone software, so I tried to find some info about it all, but i am still somewhat confused what will happen if i "unlock boot", "root" or "flash a rom"
i found this video on your forum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LENBpQW7mM4
and read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069904 this
and when i read this... and if i would do this... how do i know what kind of version of the HTC i should use, and will i have acces to the Blinkfeed with news from my country and Google Play store(that works)
i have a T-Mobile Simcard, but it's not a tmobile phone
so now my questions
1. Is it Safe to unlock bootloader, root and flash rom?
2. If i do it, Which Version should i take? (T-Mobile, M7, Sprint or ATT(although i think this is for america?)
3. Will it give me a properly working Blinkfeed with english / dutch news and facebook?
TLDR version:
Problems:
- Bought HTC One in china
- Blinkfeed news and Social media is only Chinese
- I have no Play Store
- I dont know what Unlocking bootloader, Root and ROM will fix
info:
The sellswoman from HTC china said it is an international phone, but i dont know for sure, since she also told me i could have english news on my blinkfeed etc.
questions:
so now my questions
1. Is it Safe to unlock bootloader, root and flash rom?
2. If i do it, Which Version should i take? (T-Mobile, M7, Sprint or ATT(although i think this is for america?)
3. Will it give me a properly working Blinkfeed with english / dutch news and facebook?
1. yes is safe to unlock bootloader via htc dev
2. still unclear about what to say, maybe you have dual sim version? what numer it is 802w ?
3. i have blinkfeed in english but is not usefull until you root phone
EDIT: >> If you don't did ota update >>> DON'T DO IT YET !!

OTA stands for Over The Air. Some ROMs require you to be at a certain "CID" (Carrier ID) and/or "MID" (Model ID). In order to change those IDs on your phone so you can install different ROMs that you might not normally be able to, you need what is called S-OFF. HBOOT 1.44 (which is what these devices shipped with) are able to be "S-OFF'ed" - if you install the OTA, the HBOOT will be upgraded to 1.54 and S-OFF is not able to be achieved on that version, effectively sticking you to whatever CID and MID you currently have.
If you'll be installing ROMs that are for your current model, you don't need to worry about S-OFF but I'd still shy away from the OTA just in case at some point later on you do want to delve into that world.
Seeing as how you aren't even sure what an OTA is I would take your time and read through the various guides on here extremely carefully. Some of these processes can leave you with a bricked phone if you don't know what you're doing. I'm not trying to be rude either, just offering a word of advise. You don't want to turn your expensive phone into an expensive paper weight.

very much appreciated for taking time for giving me this answer, and yeah i'm afraid i will end up with an expensive paper weight as well if i do this... so i will just leave it be for the moment, unfortunately I do not know anyone who is experienced with this
maybe i can ask for 1 more thing, is there anyway to get a working Google Play on my phone? if i download the APK and install it... when it starts up it closes down immediatly again (download manager is enabled)
