phone wont flash - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My sons phone is rooted and running a rom not sure but it reboots alot so iv tried to just take him back to stock and it will not do anything. I can not get it to sync to any pc 1 xp machine and 2 w7 machines. So iv taken his card out and loaded a couple different img's on his card using my phone and when i try to flash the img it doesnt recognize it. Also his phone says there is an update from htc so i d/l it and install it but it wont install it says something about verification. Iv even downloaded a new rom and it wont flash that rom it fails half way through. All i can say is i rooted and flashed a rom about a 8 to 9 months ago so that is how old his rom is. The reboots just started and he has to reinput is gmail info alot cause it erases that info as well.

Answer a few questions for me sir:
- What rom exactly did he flash?
- At what frequency was the kernel overclocked?
- What stock rom did you use? I would recommend doing a RUU if you want complete stock.
- What recovery?
- Are you S-OFF?
- Any mods done to the phone?
I'll be back to help you once you answer those questions

rom not sure software says NFX.2.31.651.7.U3
kernel says 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
and iv tried ruu but phone will not sync to any pc so ruu is out
s-off

Sounds like the recovery borked. Use Rom Manager from the market (free download) and flash clockwork mod recovery. Then reboot into recovery and try flashing a new rom

Thanks that was it i didnt think of using Rom Manager and flashing a new recovery, sad thing is i own the full version of it on my phone. Flashed rock steady cm7 and everything seems to run pretty good so far. Still wont connect to a pc but i think its the cable i have.

Happy to help..
Will your phone charge while connected to a computer?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App

nope wall charger only and i have 2 other cable that have usb ends for other devices and none of them work either so i might have to look for an official htc cable.

I dunno...I just always put my SD card in my computer to download things to it...if you have a PS3 you can use the cable that plugs into the controller...works for me

Just for future use, you might want to do the following:
- Always keep a hercimg.zip on the root of your sdcard that contains a working recovery
- Keep a nandroid backup
- And always take note of what was recently done to your phone
That way its easier to find the problem yourself but i'm always here to help
and glad to see it was just the broken recovery nothing to serious

it was brand new via ups. replaced my old hero. i rooted via the .7 method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804296
then i flashed clockwork. i wanted to try it with the update but the phone didnt install the update it just downloaded the update. so i tried running the .7 ruu and i get usb connect error. i run .6 and get some other error. the over the air update gives me a triangle exclamation and when i press menu im at the clockwork screen.
not sure why i cant run the .7 ruu...maybe i should try rebooting my pc as well.
thank you
Might wanna try this: turn off your phone, then hold Volume up and power, plug in usb and run the RUU this will return to stock.

Not true.
You just have to have the sync drivers, I've never sync'd but I've ruu'd at least 4 different times.

I rooted my phone, then really messed it up, please help

My phone is an HTC Hero CDMA Sprint running the latest update. I was talked in to rooting my phone to delete un needed apps, so I agreed and let my friend do it. Everything went fine, no problems. But then I deleted what I thought were nonsense aps, but I think I deleted something wrong because now I can not download from the market, gmail errors out when it tries to sync etc etc. And my friend did not do a back up of my phone (doh slaps hand on head).
I just want to put the phone back like factory. Of course, factory reset didn't really work because the stuff I deleted did not come back...but I figured that would be the case. I just made it worse because now I don't have my file manager to access the SD card and I can't download one from the Market.
I know there has to be some way to download something with my pc to flash the phone back to original, but I can't find it I only seem to find "updates" and I am not sure those will really help.
Can someone please point me in the right direction so that I can get my phone working properly again? Thank you so much!!
Flash a sense rom...that should fix everything..
Search RUU under the hero development section or go to the htc site ( http://www.htc.com/us/support/hero-sprint/downloads/) and get the hero software from there. Running it from either of those will return you to stock.

Just remember that running the RUU will also remove root from the phone...completely stock again...which is what it sounds like you want.

can you do this from your phone only, i.e. BT transfer an RUU flash img and flash it all on the phone, or do you have to USB connect to RUU?

ineresting.... I think you could, but ONLY if you were s-off. You could download the s-off only RUU, bt transfer it, and flash the HERCIMG.zip from hboot.
When running the RUU you do need to be connected to a PC. However, there is an HERCIMG zip RUU that you can run if you are s-off in the dev section and there is also a method posted to unroot without RUU from the sd card in the development section. Search rt100's posts for the second method and it should come up and I'll see if I can find the zip.
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using XDA App
Easiest way is htc sync and RUU on pc unfortunately.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA Premium App
I tried both methods and the first failed due to hboot update and the second where you use the zip kept snagging at the file moving to /root saying write protected of read only. I tried this mount -o method but couldn't get root to be chmod only like /sys. Even with SU priv in the terminal emulator no dice. And when I called for upgrade sounded like they want the phone is why I'm little worried, maybe few seconds in the microwave or get it degaussed lol

Problem with teamhacksung's ICS rom!!! Need help desperately!!!

ok guys here is the deal. I just flashed teamhacksung's CM9 ALPHA for Captivate (BUILD 16) and faced multiple problems :
-no service at all
-phone doesnt recognize internal sd card, and keeps asking to insert sd card to be able to use camera and media player
-no option to choose wifi that i want to use
-cannot connect phone with computer via usb even mass storage is on
I need help desperately guys as soon as possible!!! can someone tell how to fix these problems, or tell me how to fix connection problems so i can copy another rom to my phone, or maybe how to go back to stock settings and stock rom !!
try flashing different ROM, may be?
Nostalgia 2.1 is out.
Check the sticky in the dev section for an odin flashable stock rom. Don't use cwm. Start back at kk4, flash a cwm kernel (corn or similar), then try cm9 again.

Hey guys i got new question for u, well now while im dealing with encryption problem i used the guide that yall mentioned and im having little problem (i hope its little) so heres the deal : whenever i try to pull or push file using adb i got device not found error. Im trying to push vold.flstab file that i somehow got out system/etc folder on my phone without using oull command since it wasnt working. I got it out and modified it but i cant push it back. How can i fix this error or how can i create a zip file to flash this file to my phone using cwm ???
Nevermind guys, figured out how to change that file (using root explorer) but now when i changed i was supposed to restart phone (thats what guide said) but phone now stucks on boot screen. really dont know what to do -.-
My friend says to me all the time... "your doing it wrong" and "just stop hacking your phone and u won't have that problem"
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yeea, I figured out that way now when my phone is totally busted, im gonna get new one (Captivate again) and not gonna mess a lot with it as I did with this one.
Really you shouldn't have to worry about completely messing up(but don't hold me to it) I thought I was done a couple times, but even when my captivate was soft bricked and my computer wouldn't recognize it, a USB jig pops it into download mode that we all know and love ... and from there you can flash back to whatever you like.
By the way...when is the last backup you have made? If it was right before you flashed, just go into download mode, flash to whatever you were on, restore your nandroid, then start over the right way(or choose not to flash that again)

Semi brick. Need help

Basically I've screwed over my phone.
It WILL boot. However I can't get it to go into USB mode.
I'm on Android 2.3.5 and I have this rom installed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779290
When I try to flash from a backup, it fails flashing system and renders my phone a brick until I reinstall the above ROM
I've also tried going into download mode so I can use the official LG updater to flash it back completely stock. However I can't seem to get that working.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

First you are posting in the wrong section.
Second, what baseband do you have installed. I am running on a Froyo baseband and can't run thrillseeker due to the baseband requiring the GB baseband. You can probably return to stock by using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491870
From what I am reading, the LG Updater sometimes will fail but you just have to continue using it.
Good luck with your issue. I am planning to do the same to my nephews phone later today. If i can figure something out I will post back.
I think its V20P which is Gingerbread. I know when I last updated it I used the official updating tool and grabbed it from their server. But again I'm on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Will those update.zip files work?

Yea it charges but that's it.
Luckily I have SwiFTP installed on my phone so I can still transfer things back and fourth between my phone and PC over my home network via FTP. Just much, MUCH slower.
EDIT: I just realized why this was in the wrong section. I TOTALLY thought I was posting in the general forum. Sorry. *derp*
Bump
First thing uninstall LG PC drivers then reboot PC and reinstall them. Or try to connect to a different PC to make sure it is not PC related. If that doesn't work then try wiping caches and instsall a different kernel. If that doesn't work I would then try full data wipe and reinstall rom of choice. You might try different rom as once its fixed you can always flash back...hope this helps you.

Well I believe I've figured out what the problem was.
You see the other day while I was charging the phone I accidentally knocked it off. The USB cable got caught on my alarm clock and caught the phone, so the phone was hanging by the USB cable.
Well today I looked at the connector on it and I noticed it was bent a little. So I bent it back up and heard a small *click*
I was afraid I had broke it completely inside. However when I plugged it in my computer recognized my phone and USB mode showed up.

[q] htc one messed!!!!! Help plzzz!!!!!!!

So i'm basically a total noob when it comes to this kind of thing.
I recently rooted my new HTC ONE (International) using a method i found on htconeroot.com
After that the phone could not read the SD card. Every time i open storage in the settings menu it closes.
The phone also would reboot at random moments.
I tried to fix it using some other methods and messed it up. I deleted the original OS and i cant access the backups i made because i switched recoveries from TWRP to CWM. Even when i switched back to TWRP, i couldn't find the backups.
I tried installing two roms (Android Revolution and Maximus) but when i did they would not boot completely and would be stuck on the boot logo.
I cannot flash stock RUU because it is not out yet (1.29.401.12)
I tried to use the Nandroid method i found on this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267435
But the installation aborted for some reason and would not work.
PLEASE can anyone help me find a solution or show me how i make the nandroid backup method work?

Could you send us a pic of your bootloader? That way we can determine exartcly what state your phone is in.
Also, I just used HTCOneRoot two days ago without a hitch (AT&T variant). The first boot takes a good 2 - 5 minutes so maybe you just didn't wait long enough.

Ok so i had a friend of mine who's a tech-wizz when it comes to this kind of thing help me out. He explained pretty much everything but i still have a problem.
I basically erased the system by accident (playing with TWRP), so i flashed CWM and restored my phone using a nandroid backup for version 1.29.401.12, which was the original version the phone came in.
The backup worked although it still has the same bugs that i had when i first rooted the damn thing.
Basically, some apps would just restart themselves right when i open them, such as google chrome. They would eventually open after a couple more tries. The phone is a bit laggy, and would also reboot at random moments, which i think normally happen when i do something with the phone such as install a new app or simply post a facebook status. Is it possible that i might've erased an important system file? Cuz the backup should've restored all missing system and data files.
Oh and i also couldn't take a photo of the bootloader because my camera has the same image taking capabilities of a potato.
So i'll just copy down everything on there.

I looked everywhere but all the threads i found said that the RUU's for the 1.29 base are not out yet so i had to use the nandroid backup instead.
This phone is killing me
I tried re-rooting and giving the phone 10 mins to stable.
I tried flashing AndroidRevolution rom
I tried several nandroid backups, including the software version that i was initially on (1.29.401.12)
Just now i flashed an odexed rom version 2.17.401.1 and it still keeps on restarting.
I'm starting to believe this phone is fake.
Are flashing the boot.IMG through fastboot after flashing the ROM ?

No it doesn't, but normally rooting the device shouldn't really do this, right?
Cause i've looked everywhere and no one seems to be having this problem with the HTC ONE.
Is there a way to tell if it's fake or not?
