Hi,
My unit is rooted with 1.1 and I am trying to get my unit back to stock so I can install 1.2 and manual root it.
I have been trying to get the unit to load the stock ROM for hours and I cannot get this to work. Here is what I am doing.
1) Press power button for a second or 2.
2) When "future of reading" appears hold down power button until screen goes dark again.
3) Repeat
I have repeated way past 8 and it never starts the screen that loads the stock ROM.
Any ideas?
CWM Install.
Do you have Clock Work Mod Recovery installed? Well, if you don't install it, there are many guides on xda.
Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
Download either 1.0 or 1.0.1 and flash it using ClockworkMod.
That is a great idea!
I did this when 1.2 came out and here is what you have to do.
-Turn On Nook
-Wait till the Screen goes black after the "touch reading" or whatever
-As soon as the Big N appears hold Power
Repeat 8 times to reflash Stock then Turn Nook off and hold N+Power for 6 seconds. Follow onscreen prompts and you're data and emmc will be wiped. You MUST do this or you'll have a real buggy Nook.

Absolute NooB to the NC here, so please be gentle!
I've got four issues that should be no-brainers but they are beating me up. I've split them into four separate posts to keep things clean.
1. Booting to recovery
What I've read is to power the NC off, power on, hold down power & N key until boot screen (which I assume is the "Touch the future of reading" screen), then release both to boot into recovery mode.
Certainly sounds simple.
I can't make it work. Been trying for days.
So, does this actually work? What is the trick?
Timing on that can be tricky, so don't get frustrated. When the 'touch the future' logo comes up, continue holding N and power and count to about 4. Hopefully that gets you, but if not, try 3 and 5 counts. If it powers back off, you held too long, but it won't hurt anything!
I have the same darn problem with mine---but I never see "touch of the future" script, I see " loading". I always see "loading".
CM7 on the sd card.
I have never booted into recovery.
?
I usually reboot to recovery from rom manager.
Thanks! Got it down now. Once I got the timing down, tis as easy as on my original Droid.

That's my preferred method (on my original Droid) but it doesn't work for me on the Nook.
Maybe because I am still booting CM7 from the sdcard?
I'm on the same boat here cant figure out how to get into recovery mode.
I tried the power/N button combinations, reboot into recovery from CM7 desktop, and ROM manager still doesn't get me into recovery mode.

Problem fixed, stopped using stable build 7.03 and used nightly build 102 and now I could get in and out of recovery mode with no issues.
I had been using my Captivate for a while, and used Kies mini to upgrade to Froyo, and everything had been working fine until randomly the phone wouldn't boot.
It would take forever to go from the AT&T home screen, and would lag through the galaxy s intro, and then stop.
I tried to use Recovery mode, and it didn't work, so I tried to use Odin3 to flash back to stock.
Now it won't go past the Logo screen, and recovery mode doesn't work, but download mode still does. I have tried Odin one click, and Odin three click v 1.0, 1.3, and 1.7. I've used the .tar and the .pit from Breakin' Ranh's [Guide] How to Recover a Captivate to Stock 2.1 Eclair JH7
It keeps getting stuck in a boot loop after odin, no matter what I do.
Any suggestions?
Using SGH-i897
1007
first boot takes along time to build new files and delvik.. are you sure you waited long enough?
keep trying to get into recovery. try holding the buttons a little after the screen comes on.
factory wipe/ clear phone/
It keeps going to the AT&T logo screen for like 10 seconds, and then goes to the spinning wheel/battery charging screen, and then reboots.
Can't get into recovery mode through it, still.
a different .tar package.... dunno about that one..
or flash to 2.2 tar package
I have to use rom manager to get to recovery on my captivate

I was able to use a dragon rom to get it to boot, but now my phone wont give me any access to my internal sd card, and won't mount my external, so I can't download rom manager because I "have no room" Where do I go from here?
I've already tried formatting both cards, and it seems like nothing happens whenever I click on format.
you dont need rom manager....ever
Then what does he need?

stuck in the same position
I can get into download mode (only with a JIG tho) but when I go back to stock with Odin (or try to) it's just stuck in the AT & T logo screen, it doesn't go beyond that, how do I get into recovery mode, press both Volume buttons and Power button, when the AT&T screen comes release the Power button right?
Need some help please!
you might need to flash the 3 button fix but keep trying, if you get into recovery clear data and cache. but first boot always takes a long time as it has to build delvak cache and more... try flashing again, with the 3 button fix att rom.
3 button fix? to get into download mode you mean? I CAN get into download mode (with the jig) but not into recovery mode :-s
I have no idea how to flash it without being in the Stock rom, any help?
download is 2 buttons
recovery is 3 button.
some phones loose the 3 button combo to get into recovery.
in that case you need to flash the stock rom with 3 button fix.
it is for Att only so i dont know much more.
After Odin, I was in a boot loop yesterday. I plan on writing it up in a new thread to see if someone can help me understand what happened (cause I have Odined and modded two different cappys without issue) but here is how I was able to recover.
After Odin was complete and said successful, it reboots the phone.
Upon reboot I was in the ATT boot loop. After Odin, I lost both three button recovery and 2 button download (both of these worked before Odin). I don’t have a JIG so no way of getting to download mode.
I read to try the following sequence after reading it other posts.
1. Pull battery, sim, SD card and unplug the USB. Let it sit for a minute.
2. Plug in the USB cable.
3. Holding all three buttons, plug in the battery.
4. The battery charge (grey) should be seen on the phone. After the phone screen goes black twice let go of the power button.
This worked for me once, after several attempts.
Now that the phone booted back up, I did a master clear with Odin.
Upon reboot right back in to the ATT boot loop screen.
Was not having any luck with the steps above after several attempts.
Here is how I eventually recovered.
1. I opened Odin on the PC.
2. Pulled the battery and USB for a minute or two then replaced it and plugged in the USB cable.
3. After few cycles of black battery icon and spinning wheel, the batter icon turned green (like normal when you turn your phone off and plug it in). Sometimes this only took two cycles and sometimes many cycles (or a few minutes).
4. Once the battery icon was green, I hit the power button.
5. As soon as you see the ATT screen, pull the USB cable and the phone booted (if I left the USB plugged in, the phone went back to the black battery screen after the ATT screen).
6. I copied the correct Update.zip and Rom to my SD card.
From here I tried to boot into recovery via ADB.
The phone rebooted but back into the ATT boot loop.
Following the second set of steps above (2-3 times), I was finally able to get into Clockwork recovery.
From here I flashed Phoenix Unleashed.
After the flash rebooted and the phone seems to be running fine now (with the exception that I lost my 3 and 2 button combos, but that will be for a different thread).
From the Power Menu, I can get into download mode or Recovery no prob.
Not sure if this is something that will work for others but wanted to throw it out there just in case.
It never booted for me, so this is what I did
For anoyone that might find this thread, Odin 1 Click didn't work for me, so I flashed back into stock using Odin (not the 1 click version, another one), here are some links that proved to be very helpful (I ended up Flashing to Serependity 6.4):

FIXED:
Used this version of Odin to get me into recovery mode:
http://www.multiupload.com/PM9TNZWL84
Once I got that, I realized my internal SD card wasn't mounting properly, and used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10056254&postcount=36
this thread to finish flashing back to stock.
I accidentally turned off my rooted Nook Color yesterday rather than putting it on Airplane mode and when I tried to bring it back last night, it would not boot up. It goes directly to the screen that says "Touch the Future of Reading" and won't go beyond that. I have tried holding the power button and N button down for 30 seconds and it has not worked. I let the battery die and tried rebooting it again from there... and no go...
Any ideas??
Thanks!

You should try this...
ie. make a bootable sd card and reflash stock rom (or whatever you're running) off of it
I’m almost ready to make the jump from verygreen’s unofficial emmc CM 10.1 to the official CM 10.2: I have the newest TWRP, backups made, ROM and Gapps downloaded. However, I'm concerned that if I bootloop, I may not be able to get to recover, since I can't seem to find a hard-button set that forces Cyanoboot to either display a menu or boot into recovery.
Am I missing a particular combination of hard-buttons that I just haven't managed to figure out or locate online, or is there an updated bootloader that I need?
Thanks in advance.
Scratch that. Another bunch of trial and error bore out that you can force it into recovery by:
1. Powering off.
2. Holding the power and n buttons until it turns on and turns off.
3 Starting it again.
Nothing to see here, move along...

Don't hold the power button so long that it turns off. Hold the power and n for only about 5 seconds and release the power. It should boot to recovery.

I was attempting to install a ROM, and CWM gave me several errors about not being able to mount partitions. So, I rebooted and went into "mounts and storage", mounted the partitions, and tried again. This time, it got to about 100% and then crashed.
When I rebooted into CWM, I got a bunch of errors about not being able to locate files, and I couldn't access any menus. So, I shut it down.
Now, when I boot it up, it goes to the Cyanoboot screen and then powers off. When I try to boot into recovery, it just gives me a black screen.

try a hard factory reset and then once you are sure its working fine
you can install another o/s and maybe use a different sd card as that one may be corrupt.
1 press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to turn off the nook
2. press and hold the power button, and then press and the home key while still holding the power button down.
the screen will flash and then the message "touch the future of reading" appears. The message disappears and the factory reset prompt appears.
3. press the home key to execute the factory reset. a confirmation screen will appear
4. press the home key again to confirm, the nook will be deregistered from Barnes&Nobles and original factory settings are restored..
if you've blown away the original factory settings you may need to download a new copy and load it onto an sd card (suggest a known good sd card)
and reload it.
good luck
Thanks! I've been able to get it back to stock, but I can't get a ROM installed. It either gives me a status 0 or status 7 error, or it hangs at the Cyanoboot screen and then eventually reverts to stock and sends me back to the "Hello, welcome to your NOOK" screen.
I've spent several hours going through XDA threads and various tutorials around the web, and nothing I do works. I've rooted and installed ROMs on three phones and two other Nooks (an original color and an HD+), and those all worked fine, but somehow this HD (hummingbird) manages to thwart all of my efforts. What really drives me crazy is that all of the tutorials make it look so easy, but when I try to do the same thing, it fails!
I think it might be a problem with the recovery. If I could just get that installed, then maybe it wouldn't be able to revert to stock anymore. But whenever I install a recovery, I get the same thing: it gets stuck on the Cyanoboot screen.
