So I was messing about with Cyanogen Gingerbread, didn't like it and tried to restore a Froyo backup. The backup failed (kernals don't match right?) and now I cannot get past the AT&T screen on a normal power up or when trying to enter recovery. I tried to go back to stock using ODIN, but no com port is opened when I enter download mode and the phone is showing up as an unknown device in device manager. I have installed the x64 USB drivers, but I still cannot get ODIN to recognize the phone. Any suggestions?
When you say you are using x64 drivers, I'm assuming you are running either Vista or Windows 7 64-bit. I have heard there have been issues with 64 bit Windows drivers and getting the computer to recognize your phone properly.
I would recommend uninstalling the drivers, re-download a fresh set of drivers from Samsung and try again. Also, did you try to reboot your computer and attempt to get it to recognize your phone? Try different USB ports also. If it is possible, try a different USB cable. Finally, if you have a 32-bit OS handy, I'd try that.
Hope this helps and good luck!!
i run windows 7 64 and have no problems at all. make sure to uninstall samsung keis.
and reinstall the samsung drivers alone.

Hello all, I am turning to the Forums since I have spent 5 hours trying to resolve my problem.
Earlier today I installed Kies Mini on my computer in anticipation of the official AT&T Froyo. However, now my computer no longer recognizes my phone at all. It does not show up in the Device Manager, or anywhere.
I tried Uninstalling Kies Mini, Uninstalling the Drivers, Rebooting my phone. etc, etc. But Windows still will not recognize the phone as attached. It worked in the past and I would like for it to work again.
I am currently running Windows 7 64 bit. My Captivate is running Cog 3.4.
Try this:
Uninstall Kies Mini and all Drivers
Reinstall Kies Mini
Once installed turn on USB debugging on your phone and then plug it in, let it install all of the drivers.
Unplug your phone and shut it down
Once shut down activate download mode (hold up and down volume and plug in the USB) again it will install more drivers.
Once this is done unplug your phone, remove the battery and turn it back on, then restart your computer.
Uninstalled Kies Mini, and Samsung Drivers. Reboot
Installed Kies Mini.
Attached Phone to Computer. Nothing.
Also, Tried to Just boot my phone into Recovery Mode. But only boots into Clockwork Recovery. Can't Log into Stock Recovery
Update: Tried hooking up the phone to my XP machine. No Joy. XP did not recognize the device or try to install drivers.
Did you enable debugging?

Yes, I placed it in Debug mode. When I plug in my Phone my Title Bar Shows the USB Debugging Android indicating that USB Debugging connected, the USB icon that says Copy files to From Computer. If I click on USB, it gives me the Green Connect Android, then the Orange One. But none of my computers recognize a USB device as connected.
I have tried it with Three different cables. I'm thinking that somehow the phone is not sending some message to Windows saying "Hey, I'm connected"
Did you use the correct drivers for the phone? Can't recall of the top of my head if I can use the standard captivate drivers for windows if your on cognition..

Not in device manager
I have what appears to be a soft brick. I was running the i9000 drivers. I was trying to install the i897. At first Odin recognized my phone and I began to download. The Odin bootloader flash failed. No my computer (Win 7 64 bit) does not even see my phone. Nothing in device manager, not even an unrecognized device.
I can get my phone into download mode. Does anyone have an idea how I can get windows to see me again?
From my experience as long as you are in download mode and have odin opened up it when you connect it, odin should find the phone no problem for you to be able to flash something new to it.

Have you rebooted the PC? Try to reinstall the drivers again. I had to reinstall the nexus s drivers but I have read some need to reinstall kies to get the drivers to work. Just keep at it. Try other USB ports. My phone wouldn't be recognized for about two weeks with trying everything. I tried new USB cables, drivers and all. Then finally it kind of worked and I went from download mode with a jig to phone!PC and then it took another reboot of the laptop and phone was able to get flashed again via the phone!PC screen. Just keep trying is all I can say.

Try uninstall again.
Dl usb drivers but dont install. Save them to desktop
Plug in phone
Unknown device pops up, click on message. Click install custom drivers, navigate to where you saved uninstalled drivers are. Select
This has worked for some
CM7
Ok I uninstalled any versions of the drivers, when I plugged in my phone, the computer said unknown device as usual but it is automatically installing an "unknown device" driver. When I went to select the driver manually for it, it told me that there was no need to update and it didn't give me another option.
I should probably mention that originally, the computer recognized my internal sdcard when i mounted it. Now it isn't, and it won't recognize it in any mode.

what rom are you using now? does the driver you installed came from the stock eclair or froyo. I get the same message after flashing from stock to custom roms. I just plug my phone again and the pc automatically searches and installs driver from gt i900 driver. My old PC is running win xp with android sdk manager in it aside from the kies mini it has which already has the samsung drivers which supports stock roms.
definitely wrong drivers...If your computer recognize it in normal mode as in to mount internal sd card, but says unknown device in download mode than try to download USB drivers from somewhere else...
I have noticed this that drivers from samsung website doesnt support the download mode...I have faced this problem...mine would ask for gadget serial..so i use this drivers...http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
Hope this helps
I'm running perception 10.4. I've tried several different download sources, and it doesn't read when I mount the sd card anymore. On my windows 7 computer it worked no matter what rom I had, and I didn't have to change drivers at all. I'll try that link and see what happens
Still won't work...
This happens to me all the time when attempting to flash back to stock. What I do is just keep doing battery pulls and switching usb ports. Eventually, it works!

lol How long will that usually take until it works..
I've tried pulling the battery and switching ports at least 15 times.. nothing happens. windows installs an "unknown driver" automatically, and if I choose the galaxy s drivers for it, it says the driver isn't compatible for my device. It's not even recognizing it's a phone, or a mass storage device, or any other usb device it can be.
Unknown Device
Was this ever resolved? I have the same problem. Unknown Device in Download Mode. ADB works, PC recognizes phone in normal mode.
The phone shows up in Device Manager when in normal mode. If I use ADB to reboot download, the PC immediately drops the phone and displays unknown device in device manager.
Have tried complete uninstall/reinstall of drivers including regedit. NO JOY.
Running XP SP3. Any ideas?
after upgrading to gingerbread my pc thinks it is an i9000.
try those drivers.
i have no issues though.
Hi, looking for some help with a soft-bricked SGS i9000.
It is bricked to the point that it only shows the 'Phone--!--Computer' when switched on, or when attempting to access Recovery Mode.
I can access Download mode absolutely fine, but Windows refuses to recognise the device when it is plugged in, therefore it doesn't show up in Odin, therefore I can't flash a new ROM.
Is there anything I can try to get Windows/Odin recognising it?
(Someone on another thread suggested just unplugging and replugging the phone until Windows recognises it - should I give this a try?)
Thanks.
I assume you have tried reinstalling the drivers?
Yeah, I've removed the device from device manager, reinstalled the drivers and re-plugged it.
Then I've tried updating the drivers via Device Manager - the message I get is that the best drivers are already installed.

Uninstall whatever drivers you have installed at the moment and read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...an always uninstall and install Samsung Kies.
try a different usb port, sometimes you can actually fool windows with that, i have had the same a couple of times, rebooting your pc or using a other pc sometimes works...
can you enter to download mode? It should be recognised by odin. If not you need an usb jig.
I had the same thing, so i looked around and someonle suggested installinog nexus S drivers and Odin recognizes your phone!!
It really works.

Happy new year all,
I have a 8.9 wifi only 32gb amazon.com version 7310.
I can’t get it to connect to my windows PCs (multiple PCs) ANYMORE…I have the drivers installed, but when I plug it in, windows will ask me for the driver and when it tries to install it I get an error (device not installed properly).
Some history:
I have the usb driver (“GT-p7510_USB_Driver_v1_3_2360_0-Escape.exe”) installed from the thread: “[GUIDE]Root, Bootloader Mode, ODIN, Recoveries & NANDROID Backup [7300/7310]”
Fresh off the box I hooked the tab up to my windows XP PC using the above driver and my PC recognized it. Also ODIN connected too.
I installed CWM (“Overcome_CWM_Recovery_v5.1.2.6_P73xx.zip”) from the above thread and rooted the tab using the root file (“Root.zip”) also from the above thread.
After that I couldn’t get the tab to be recognized from my PCs. But ODIN still works.
BTW, I’ve also tried Samsung Kies but it did not work (couldn’t connect to the tab).
I did a hard reset but I still have the same problem!!!
I need to be able to move files from my PC to the tablet as fast as possible. Wifi works but it is slower than usb 2.0!!!
Any help?
Thank you,
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers, restarting, then installing again? Sometimes Windows is a bit iffy. Also, the drivers from Kies are kinda different and tend to conflict (happened to me once). Another tip I'll give you: certain ROMs tend to hate having USB Debugging set to ON at Settings > Applications > Development. They just won't connect through USB while having that set to ON. I found this behavior on Android 3.1 ROMs, haven't had it in the KJ5 firmware and it's been almost two months with it. Best of lucks solving this!
issue solved by re installing the kies
Thank you for your suggestion.
Re installing kies and the latest kies update solved the issue.
So attempting to root I can not get my tmobile note 4 to be recognized by Odin when I enter downloading mode. I obviously tried installing samsung usb mobile driver, when I did a message window in Japanese with a red x appeared on my win 8.1 desktop. I tried different downloads of driver and even tried samsung site all give same error window. I then installed latest kies and it installed ok and recognized my note. I tried Odin and entered dl mode on note and still Odin doesn't recognize device. I uninstalled and reinstalled kies and driver but no luck. Is there a setting on my phone that's not allowing. I have usb Debug checked. When in dl mode it just says secure download enabled and then says entering udc. I am adb literate but new to odin. Any suggestions ...
Delete everything and start over. My laptop automatically downloads the drivers for me so not sure if your desktop will do the same.
If not, download drivers or just reinstall then and try it out and see if that works for you.
Well my fix was to go to a friend's house and use there pc. Tried everything and my win 8.1 did not like.
Removing or reinstalling Samsung drivers can be tricky. You did the right (easy) thing going to a different computer. Trying to use the same computer for an old and new Samsung device at the same time can easily cause your problem to happen. I found that you can't just switch between different versions of the drivers willy nilly. Perhaps the uninstaller routine doesn't work? Registry issue? Don't know.
If your win 8 pc can be rolled back to before you ever installed kies or a Samsung driver you might be able to get it to work using the correct (new) driver. That said, I'm still using the same driver I installed for my Note 2. Since it worked for the Note 4 and knowing what could happen, I left well enough alone!
