Phone doesn't boot after flashing a kernel - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I flashed the latest offical rom from samfirmwares.com the one from 8 april.
After flashing I want to flash a kernel, after rebooting the screen is stuck at the screen where you see Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 blabla.
When on a 2.2.1 rom flashing a kernel works fine.
Anyone a idea?>
Thanks

I tried to flash speedmod kernel 256 mz and 500 mz, both same error

Stuck at screen means bad flash wrong firmware or wrong kernel .
make sure you are flashing compatible firmwares .

Flashing the rom is fine, but after flashing the kernel it's stuck,
And yesterday flashing worked fine. I don't know what I did but now, nothing.

go back to 2.2 or 2.2.1 with all 3 files and pit
flash it with re-partition checked. and start again

Custom ROMs for P1000N

does anyone know which of these custom ROMs is for P1000N? it seems to me that every ROMs i installed were not compatible with my device. Thanks
None of these ROM's is actually usable on the N or L models, the only "mod" that can be used is this OC Kernel

Sorry I have only a P1000T model. I wish I can help you.
is there an original firmware for this P1000N then? I tried to update it through Kies but it wont let me update. and if I update it through ODIN, will Kies let me do the update in the future?
Thanks all

Thanks, Jorge. but when i tried to flash this kernel, my tab got stuck at the Samsung screen and kept vibrating. I had to flash it back to Roto-JMI-Full-v2 before I can reflash it to the P1000NUBJM2 firmware downloaded from Samfirmware. Any ideas?

G-P1000N Update
I tried Updating My GTp1000N using ODIN and the root files...that is: gt-p1000_mr.pit, dbdata.tar and Cf root. But my tab restarted and got stuck in the language selection screen... what do i need to do to restore my tab...
put tab in recovery (power, volume up) and restore the original rom

[Q] soft bricked tab u.u

My problem is that i flash my tab but, when it boots the os, vibrates once, and then three times (like an app crash, i think)
I change the kernel, then the rom. THEN, i wanted to go back to stock and flashed stock over the other kernel, and other rom.
Now i turn it on, and hangs on the samsung screen, and gives app error.
Right now, i'm downloading the previous rom, 'cause i think i have to flash that rom and then use heimdall to flash the stock kernel.
Any ideas ?
KERNEL: HumberOS 05052011
ROM: HumberOS 1.2.5 i think
SGT P1000L
I just want to flash cf root to flash overcome
Thanks in advance !
Overcome kernel isnt compatible with latin tabs. Get a stock rom for your tab and flash it with repartition. Basically follow instructions on flashing that stock rom. Make sure your tab is fully charged.
check this thread , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133590
THANKS !
DarkPal: Yes ! you are right ! But i never flash that kernel ! I've flashed HumberOS Kernel, wich is compatible with my tab model.
I just refered Overcome 'cause the same developer of HumberOS ported CF Root Kernel (Gingerbread) to P1000L and N, and he tried Overcome and CM7 and he get them runnin' on a latin tab.
I've flashed my tab one, two, three times with repartition. But it's still getting app crash when it boot the OS.
:/
k0sh: I read your guide before posting here, my friend. That's why i know that my tab is only Soft bricked. But i have flashed my tab (with ODIN and the stock ROM for my tab model) a thousand times. I don't work.
Both: Well, the previous ROM (HumberOS 1.2.5 it's a .zip for Cw... if i only can flash a kernel with Cw...)
Maybe i'm just give a try to Heimdall.
Thanks !
Solved
I just flash a stock 2.3 ROM and my tab boots finally (ona complete week turned off D, then CF-root, and now i'm flashing Overcome Hermes... just waiting the initial boot !!!!!!
Thanks a lot !!!!!

Are you flashing with repartition?

Simpilicity crashed, stuck at bootloop, nothing works

Hi everyone,
First time posting, I was on Simplicity rom 2.2.1, playing tiny tower while my alarms were going off. Next thing I know, the whole phone (GT-i9000) crashes and its stuck in an infinite bootloop. I can get into download mode easy enough and I tried flashing to a heap of stock roms: JVT, JVU, JVH and JVN. Nothing worked. I couldn't get into recovery mode, but after flashing the original CWM7 kernel I could.
Tried wiping everything in recovery, including dalvik cache, then flashing back to Simplicity in CWM. Again, nothing working, in fact nothing at all. Tried stock again, not working. Tried flashing some other kernels, didn't work either. Curiously I tried flashing darkys rom RE 10.5 in ODIN and it failed at repartitioning. Not sure if there's anything behind that. Anyway, I don't really know what to do next, so I'm here.
i tried without repartition with repartition etc and it would always fail.. but then i tried again put repartition set pit file and now..its flashing it! so trying more might help you. btw im using darky resurrection
That didn't work, it only lets me attempt one ODIN flash per entry into download, then I have to reset the phone to try again.
Make sure flashing a rom with bootloader.
Sent from my I9000 running JW5 with Dmore3.3 and Semaphore 2.7.4
I've always been cautious about bootloaders, I read somewhere that if you do it wrong it will completely brick your phone. Can you tell me how to do this safely?
you need to flash stock rom 2.1 with three parts and pit 512 and repartition checked, if didnt work try with out repatition
Can you provide a link for stock 2.1? I can't find one.
Found one with a bootloader, used ODIN, and it worked! Then went to stock JVU, updated to speedmod kernel (still working) but then I tried to update to SURFACE rom and I'm back to square one. Bootloops.
Tried more stocks roms with bootloaders, none of them working. I can get to recovery again if I flash CWM7 kernel like before.

Sorry when I say bootloaders I mean they are built into the rom. I never flash them separately. The above link is a great resource to firmware with bootloaders. The newest gingerbread firmware is JW6... Try that or one of the others. I'm currently on JW5, with semaphore 2.7.4 kernel and DMore 3.3 Rom, it's rock solid. Hope you get it sorted.

Yeah I found this thread earlier, I did flash with JW6, doesn't work.
So instead I just accidentally flashed a ROM for the Galaxy Tab, now my phone won't turn on at all, I'm afraid I just bricked it for reals. Can't enter download mode, completely dead boot.

[Q] Get SGS back to Factory Defaults

Hello All,
Have some issues with my phone that i want to run it through you all.
I live in India. I have a SGS GT-i9000
I got it first with 2.1. I updated it to 2.2.
At 2.2, I installed DarkyROM and played around with it. I tried going back to 2.2 after a few days. At that point, the Lagfix was enabled and then the flashing did not work.
I somehow fixed it and was able to resolve it and get the phone working. This was close to a year ago and i do not remember what exactly
I then installed 2.3 and it was working great. However, from then on, Any flashing i do, i get the dbdata.rfs error message and i've to flash the dbdata.rfs downloaded separately for that issue. That works, But again, If i try to flash, or do a Format Internal Flash, i see the problem again.
How do i fix it?.
I tried going back to 2.2 with the 3 file method and then went to 2.3. Same Issue
I just want to format the phone completely and go back to a saner state. Please help.

Tried. It works. But then comes up with a complete error trail when resetting the phone.
I am trying to get that error now. Had it somewhere......... Basically, it says unable to format and so on.
Hi.
I did this now...............
Installed Froyo 3 File combo. ( since i read it somewhere) and did a Factory reset. Works ok
Installed GB 2.3.6 3 File Combo and did a Factory Reset. Works Ok. No Error Message
And then Installed CM10 and Slimbean. All working ok
However, I come back to my original question: What is the best process to get my phone to complete defaults?.. Like all hidden partitions cleared to how it should be even to the partition format level and so on.

http://d-h.st/4nP - this is "GB Flash kit", unpack it - in there you'll find 2.3.6 JW5 ROM, Odin v1.85 and also CF-Root kernel, after flashing this your phone will be ready to flash any stock or custom ROM

Is this kit for Galaxy S i9000? Can you please confirm, my stock kit is the first 2.3.6 and I would like to use something newer (like JW5 is). Or is there a newer latest I9000 ROM from Samsung?

Yes it is 3-file stock JW5 ROM for SGS i9000 (from Samsung) +PIT512, JW5 is not newest, but for example in my country it is... there is already JW8 value pack.... just signup to http://www.samfirmware.com/, then type "i9000" in the search field and check the newest ROM for your country/carrier ... I posted the GB Flash kit cause it is the best way to prepare your phone for flashing any ICS or JB ROM, also for flashing 1-file ROMs downloaded from samfirmware
