Hey guys,
I have designed a new honeycomb-like lockscreen (optimized for tablets in landscape mode and for smartphones - one handed usage in portrait mode), and I'd like to gather some feedback from you
This is not meant to be an exact copy of the original HC lockscreen: my goal is to offer a similar experience while also providing as much informations as possible and offering an option to use it fullscreen, without the statusbar.
[PROJECT STATUS]
Picard666 has done a fantastic job porting this concept to MIUI and now the project has been released at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19222707
CM integration is still pending.

Here are the latest mockups

Very nice concept. I would love to see this incorporated onto CM.
I would also like to see this merged into CM7

This looks great! My only suggesting would be to remove the shadowing behind the lockscreen info. I think this would make a for a cleaner lockscreen.
Does anyone else feel the same way?
Do you know where you could get the lockscreen info widget you have?

Do you mean the semi-transparent black background behind the info text?
I think this is a necessary feature as it's a huge plus for elements visibility. No matter what pic you choose as the background, you'll be able to read the infos without any troubles
Looks nice! What is the gesture for unlocking the device? I'm guessing by the small arrows on the lock, you can drag it up, left, or right? Is there a way to just use one direction?
Also, link?
nice work buddy

Atm this is just a concept. If I'll get enough positive feedback I'm confident that with the fundamental help of mad-murdock this will be implemented in a future version of CM
I think that, usability-wise, the best option is to give the user the choice about the drag-to-unlock movement
Looks great, hope to see this merged soon
Love it! Super sexy.
looking amazing nice work
The design is nice, you got my vote!
Huge thumbs up for this idea, I really hope you guys get this put together!

It would be really cool if someone got that launcher and ported it to Android. I'd love to use that.
Looks nice
There are a couple of custom roms that do make the Galaxy phone operate and look like WP7.......... don't know about other phones but the Vibrant has 3 out right now.

Looks like a fun and useful UI, I'd use it...assuming it doesn't have a big hit on battery life..

...wow thanks that was really helpful! /sarcasm
This is different, it's not just a launcher that looks EXACTLY like WP7, it has some elements of it's own and the ui looks altered a little. I think it's better than just the WP7 launcher.
I'm new to the Android scene (coming from a Touch Pro 2) and I'm really hating the Motoblur interface. Is it possible to install another launcher, or is that something that's hard coded in the ROM?
For some of it you can install a new launcher, ADW, ADW Ex, Launcher Pro are a few examples.
Any of them will allow you customize your homescreens more.
Curious wat you don't like about it? It seems very snappy to me. Much improved over previous versions of blur ui.

Its snappy and neat but not as snappy as a third party launcher such as launcherpro

I don't mind this motoblur but go launcher is still more functional for me.

i suppose i dont disagree... put the topic was that he was "hating motoblur", and while old versions were truly hate worthy, i don't find this version offensive! in fact if they had launched originally with this version, i don't think there would be much hate at all... LP and ADW are still better, and easy solutions for those who like more customization for sure!
The only thing I don't like about this blur, are the 4 launcher icons. Wtf 4? I want/need my app drawer button in the middle, and there's no middle with 4...
So, aside from that, I would be using the stock launcher. When will manufacturers realize people need options, and options are the biggest advantage over iphone. I would be perfectly happy with blur if I could add a 5th icon to the launcher bar.

I put Launcher Pro on my wife's D3. Apart from a very occasional graphics hangup on the homescreen (which may or may not be from Launcher Pro) it's working really well. She likes that the interface is cleaner, and I don't have to try and explain how "this icon with two squares represents your app drawer", heh! Using the Froyo Wide style for the dock, visually, makes a big difference in not being confused on her first Android device.
Only thing I actually kind of miss is the Moto's QuickContacts widget, which shows up invisible from within LP; and LP's people widget isn't very nice IMO.

I get the same graphic hangup on waking the device. It's seen as the desktop area being black while the dock is still visible and showing the wallpaper. Happens every time but clicking the app drawer or rotating the phone makes it go away. This happend on my d1 occasionally with cyanogen as well so I'm fairly certain it is Launcher Pro. Still can't live without LP as the blur home sucks imo.
I honestly love this blur ui. The blueness is awesome, The widgets are sweet, the icons are nice looking, and the 3d-ness is pretty sexy. This is all coming from a touchwiz fan tho

I didn't know you got a Droid 3. I loved your themes on the Fascinate. I'm actually getting one myself on the 27th. Can't wait to ditch the Fascy for it. Any plans on making themes for this when it gets root?
And I agree. The blur on the D3 is very nice. I've absolutely hated every version of it besides the D3's. I hate the TW3 launcher but like all of the TW features(like notification bar toggles). I love TouchWiz4.
Overall I don't mind blur at all. I wish they had certain features from the full blur, but I switch launchers like no tomorrow. I have ALL paid versions of LPP, ADW, Mobile Shell, and Go. I wish I could keep the favorites launcher from blur or find something similar to that.
Motoblur is now called "Motorola Application Platform"
Hahaha that sounds like "we don't want to call it Blur because everyone hates Blur."
Under "Operating System" on Verizon's page on the details screen:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/droid-3-motorola.shtml
Also, it's funny that Motorola decides to phase out the name rather than phase out Blur completely: http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/09/motoblur-name-phased-out-due-to-public-feedback/
And by funny I mean annoying!
But as the others have said, it's much less annoying than what it used to be. At least when you get your phone you don't have all of these stupid widgets everywhere preloaded on your screen. I really can't stand having all the VZ apps.
I actually liked the blur ui on this phone, but it seemed too laggy. I put launcher pro on and it has helped, but I still notice a little. I am thinking it shouldn't have any lag at all being a duelcore phone and all. Any settings I can change to help it?

I would definitely theme this when the time comes, I planned on it. I kinda dont know if Id want to theme it TBO, Blur is perfect (For me anyways). If someone ends up making an aosp rom or something I could probably theme that for the people that want to be de-blured. Im not sure how this phone will work theming wise.
I really don't mind blur on D3, way better than the blur on that defy I was tinkering with for a while, but I've been a loyal LP user since my OG. What I would like to see though is that quick contacts widget working in LP. That widget is slick, one of the coolest widgets I've ever seen, and I would use it alot. Anyone got any ideas on that?

True. There are a few changes I'd want, like making the menus black with white text instead of white with black text.
I got the D3 today. Of course, the one I get has a touchscreen that stopped working after activation. Waiting until Friday for the new one to come in. But, at least my DX2(Fascinate replacement, since mine has issues and I was gonna give it to a friend) came today and works so I have that in the mean time.
EDIT: Got the replacement in earlier. Loving this phone so much. It's extremely smooth and fast(even with Blur), and the keyboard is amazing. This is the first version of Blur I've liked. I would like root to remove V Cast apps and a few other bloatware apps, but meh, I can wait. At least Blur has app groups in the mean time.
Anyone know if there's a way to restore an old LP backup from an OG Droid?
I keep getting no files found... the backup's on my SD card... do i have to create the directory on my internal storage for it?
[edit] Ignore - Figured out solution. Simply copied the LP backup folder from my SD card to my internal storage and it worked.
Guessing since it mounds as sd where as the actual sd card mounts as sd-ext?
For everyone who just can’t seem to wait, the developer that brought you the Honeycomb launcher for your non-tablet devices, has also chosen to deliver the Ice Cream Sandwich launcher. Now technically, no one in the community knows exactly how ICS will look, but there was some leaked images shared via the interwebz a while ago that gave everyone a “taste” of what ‘Tha Sandwich’ might look like.
The launcher itself has a definite Honeycomb feel to it, but you will notice the icon that shows multiple apps (which everyone was buzzing over) in the dock area. There is a “running apps” feature, but this is complete hogwash seeing as how I have never opened the stock email app on this device, so there is no way it is actually running. They seem to just be apps pinned there by the developer. Looks neat though.
If you’re into trying the newest of the new, then give the launcher a go – don’t expect ADW/LPP type results though. The app has a ways to go to become our daily home app.

I like the layout a lot, super buggy but not bad for an alpha release...

That's what I was thinking, it could really have some potential as long as the Dev keeps working on it.
I didn't install this, so forgive me if this is a stupid question...But based on the screenshots, this looks basically the same as previous launchers, aside from the running apps bit. It seems the only change that gets made is the choice of 3D effect used on the app drawer lol.
Again, sorry if this is a question deserving of an "RTFM" response.

Basically it's just another launcher but themed as his vision of what ICS would look like on a phone. As far as the running apps go, that's just an icon... it looks good but doesn't actually represent any apps that may be running on your phone. The 3D looking drawer is pretty much just a scrollable list of icons that only open those specific apps. I didn't notice any difference between the actual app drawer and any other vanilla app drawer aside from the ability to access your widget menu directly within it.

Aside from being gorgeous and buttery smooth on my Nexus S 4G... and aside from being ridiculously customizable as it always has been... I just did a full wipe and installed it after not using it for a while.
Running a completely stock 2.3.7 rooted ROM because I'm just sick of stability issues with ICS ROMS (big loves to the brilliant devs that are working on them, btw... I know the stability problems aren't their fault... Google needs to hurry the f**k up!).
Back to my point... they've built in some of features that the ICS launcher has. Like:
dropping icons from your homescreens on top of each other to automatically bundle them into an auto-sized folder.
automatically adjusting the scale and position of the icons on the dock (which you can just drag and drop stuff off of)
Give it a whirl! This is Android perfection right here! I was thinking about getting a Galaxy S2 just for giggles but I've fallen in love with my phone again and saved myself $500
While I love ADW EX. Using ICS is just too good to go back. I don't know what stability issues you experienced, ICS has been wonderful for myself. Loving the browser and battery life. The overall feel of ICS is more fluid and just makes sense. Cut and paste is a great example.

Terrible battery life on every ROM I've tried (oICS, CM9 Alphas, CM9 Kang, etc). And if it's not battery life, it's random reboots, launcher force-closes, screen flickering, slow or laggy homescreen or app drawer transitions, etc.
Yes, I've done full wipes. I even use that wipe script linked in the NS4G Dev section.
This is the smoothest, most stable Android experience I've ever had, right now... and I've had a Nexus One, EVO 4G, Epic 4G, and a couple other ghetto phones.
Well, I am running pete's "almost stock" rom and it is perfect, not a single issue.

I hate the new dock they put in ADW Ex, which sucks because I bought it a when it first came out and didn't have any big complaints, but the new dock is terrible imo.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm debating whether I should try it. I'm seriously considering just waiting until the official OTA comes out and something more stable and faster is cooked up by the CM team or someone else. I'm so tired of all the messing with backups, wiping, flashing, etc...

Funny... I feel the exact opposite. I hated how it used to be. Love it now that it's a wee bit more like ICS and just drag/drop.

OK, the official OTA was already released and this rom was cooked using it. Are you waiting for a new OTA, like 4.0.4?
My favorite combo is ADW Ex with sph33r's ICS v2. ADW makes ics that much better - I'm loving it. Everything is smooth as silk and configured exactly how I like it.

Not for the CDMA (Sprint).
am using BM's stock ICS + eugene's stock 3.0.13 kernel. battery and speed are great! no reboots, no FC's.
Used Adw a long time back. The thing I was most uncomfortable with was the single dock. Would have loved it had it included configurable no. of docks as with launcher pro or nova.
The problem I have with ICS & nova launcher is that some widgets (Scrollable News Widget to be precise) says that it's incompatible with launchers that do not support scrollable widgets ... although I know that many other widgets work well.

3.x and up has support for scrollable widgets, so dev's of those widgets you're talking about need to re-code them.
I used ADW ex prior to upgrading to a custom ICS ROM.
Few things; ADW in no way compares to the premium and smooth feel of legit ICS. ICS has so much more and is vastly improved. An earlier poster mentioned the new copy/paste. Aside from that we have the new tabs in the browser, better auto-correction, the kick ass multitasking/recent tab, the overall UI and so much more.
If you like the ability to change icons and notice there isn't much support for that in ICS try out Nova Launcher. It's beta 5 right now but it's awesome. You can change icons easily, and more. Not to mention the app drawer very closely resembles ICS which I love.
The only thing I feel ADW EX has that ICS (coupled with Nova Launcher on a Custom ROM) doesn't have is capacity of folders. The ICS folders can't fit all of my games so I have to use "alternative" folder apps which blows. Once they fix that ICS will win at life, 3 times over. Then CM9 will come out and make us **** ourselves in excitement XD!

Have you tried ADW with ICS? I was not at all impressed with the stock ics launcher, although it is quite a bit better than the gb launcher.
ADW mostly just adds to what ics provides and as far as I can tell, only the app drawer widget picker/market link are missing (I did not use those anyway).
I run vhgomez's ICS v1.2 with the latest ADW Ex and the App Widget Picker replacement apk. Friggin sweetness.

I just don't like it.... I prefer Nova Launcher with ICS. So much better IMO
Ya, I've been using the new adw for most of my ICS time, and it's been pretty smooth. There are 2 things tho that I like much better in the Stock ICS launcher (Trebuchet).
Most of my scrollable Widgets in ADW are messed up.. especially the native calendar and browser bookmark Widgets. It seems like ADW registers the downward motion as a gesture attempt.. even though none defined.
Second is folders in the bottom bar.. which I really like in ics launcher. Definitely gonna try Nova tonight tho.
