Hi,
I am running a custom ROM (Darky's 9.5) on a rooted Galaxy S with Voodoo Fix. All has been fine for the past week since I changed to this ROM.
However, today, suddenly the phone switched off and then immediately turns on by itself and as soon as the Galaxy S screen appears it restarts again and the loop continues.
I removed the battery, but as SOON as I put the battery back in, it turns on by itself and resumes the on off sequence.
So its IMPOSSSIBLE to get into recovery mode, it doesnt work even though I have it enabled. I can get into Download mode but it lasts 5 seconds as the phone switches off and back on.
I can connect via USB to computer in download mode, but like I said it lasts 5seconds.
Is my power button jammed or is there something sinister going on? lol
Doubt I have warranty as I bought it off eBay many months ago...
Thanks for any advice!
Here we go again yet another Darky broke my phone post .
You have no warranty full stop as you flashed a custom rom ..
Usual fix for dead Deadlys rom is flash stock Froyo 2.2 rom via Odin with pit 512 and repartition checked .
However as you cannot get to download mode i would try first factory reset .
Second three button download recovery jig from .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
You could always ask Darky .

Thanks for your response.
Don't know why the ROM would behave like this a week after being ok, perhaps an app has caused the issue to surface.
I cannot do a factory reset, the phone is in a continuous loop off switching on then restarting within 5 seconds. It doesnt get past the initial Galaxy S boot screen.
I shall get my hands on a JIG in a couple of days. Not sure how that will stop the loop but worth a shot I suppose. If that dont work, this phones dead isn't it?
UPDATE: SOLVED.
It resolved all by itself. Basically, I got fed up and I left it to loop back and forth from the boot screen....and after a few minutes I returned to the phone screen to find it had booted up fully to the normal desktop.
Very strange. I might just have a dodgy phone.

I may have bricked my phone while flashing with odin to stock froyo 2.2 rom. The download mode works but i cannot get into recovery mode it just flashes at the logo screen gt-i9000m over and over and over again.
Is there a way past this or do i have to send this phone in for repair?
I have stock everything.
My phone battery died and I have spare batteries and changed it to a fully charged one. It booted up and said that a bunch of apps have to be FORCE closed... so I rebooted it.
Now it's doing the same thing yours is... the logo screen flashes over and over.
I pulled the battery to hard boot it. Then without turning it on I plugged it in to charge... so it tries to go to the charging battery icon and then flashes the logo screen over and over again.
This is my second phone... first one kept eating battery life and got real real hot.
omg stoopid samsung. I can get into download mode just fine, when i reflash it just stuck at the boot logo. Are you able to send yours away for repairs? i have mine unlocked but i also got warranty from where i bought it at wireless wave. i rather not send it in though...
I couldn't get into any menu's... sent the piece of **** away for repairs. I almost threw it at the wall behind the clerk at the bell store.
same boat here, i woke up this morning to find a bunch of forced closed messages. so i hit okay, my phone was all screwy so i turned it off, pulled out the battery, put it back in and started the phone and ta-da the galaxy S TEXT (not logo) kept...well it looks like it would boot over and over again just to the title screen, shut off and boot again. If i do the 3 button press to get to download mode i see that screen and i cant do anything else, actually i dont know what to do there.
I bought this thing in august so i am good for warranty, oh i haven't once rooted or lagfixed or anything, i just unlocked it, and with rogers instead of bell, but yeah i called bell and they refuse to help. The guy was not cool with me unlocking the phone, says i might not be covered under warranty anymore.
Next week i am going to take it to the bell repair center in person, see what they say.
Not sure what to do now. EFF!
Last samsung phone ever. the LG optimus 2X looks pretty awesome.
I'm having the same issue, my phones all stock.
When I got my phone this morning is was turned off, I plugged it in, powered it up, saw the Samsung logo and intro play and I walked away. When I came back I tired using my phone but only the lights, on the buttons, turn on but the screen and the rest of the phone doesn't respond. The lights will stay on forever.
If you can get into download mode, have you tried flashing it with some other Rom? Like DocX custom rom?

Try booting into recovery mode (vol-up, home and power). Do you get an error message under the menu? If so, report it here or do a search on that specific error. It appears that some errors are easily recoverable from via flashing while others are not.

The flash will go through completely and pass, as soon as it reboots to the Gt-i9000m logo it will just loop continuously. even when you hold down vol-up, home and power, it just doesn't recongize those buttons but will recongize vol down, home, power what gives?
Valinorian - If you can get into download mode, have you tried flashing it with some other Rom? Like DocX custom rom?
Yeah tried darkys 5.6 rom, does the same thing shows gt-i9000m logo then loops it self
dtran00 - that sucks man, but bell offers unlock codes so i dont' see how that can void your warrenty when you have to pay $70 for the unlock codes no?
Spudsicles - hopefully i won't have any troubles but i might end up throwing it at them lol
Seriously this is a good phone but the problems omgosh.
regarding everyone with the boot loop errors, Sounds like you have got the corrupted internal memory. This is a common problem everyone has been having including me. You will have to send the phone off at bell. I'm still waiting for mine to come back to me, sent it off Dec 1, although some people are reporting repair times within 5 business days.
To the best of my knowledge, that does NOT necessarily indicate flawed internal memory. I've experienced a few errors myself - one was a real SDCard issue which required repair while the others I was able to recover from.
Have you tried reflashing firmwares via Odin with the repartition option checked?
Have you tried booting into recovery using ADB? I'm not an ADB pro myself but do know it's possible. You'll have to google for instructions.
I had my phone since it launched pretty much and it was working fine with official 2.2 froyo for months.
I was about to sell my phone tomorrow so I factory reset it and when it booted up, it was working fine and made calls fine.
Then I took out my sim card and rebooted it and now the phone won't boot up. Now it just shows the galaxy s i9000m logo flashing on and off.
It was from bell and it was on 2.2 froyo, unlocked, and with no lag fix or any other mods.
Can someone please give me a quick link to a fix if there is one because I need to figure out a fix or else I will have to cancel the sale of the phone. I know a lot of people have different circumstances and I'm not sure which one mine would be under.
Will it boot with the sim card in .
Is the battery charged .
Try removing battery for a short time .
Can you get into three button download mode .

I was working on a captivate today that boots straight to download mode when i hold the power button to turn it on.
I tried odin one click back to stock. Everything flashed fine but as soon as i shut off the phone and try to power it back on, it goes straight to download mode again. It seems as if the 3 button combo is automaticly applied as soon as i go to power on the phone.
Has anyone encountered this type of problem? If so i politely ask for your help if you have found a fix
Thanks.

A friend faced a similar problem some time back and i think its not still rectified, it is some kind of shorting inside the phone.
he was running CM7 on and no GB boot loaders were flashed ever.......i think time to give him a call to ask was it solved.....will let know.
cool thanks for lookin into it i had a couple phones come in all with the same problem. they are all running on android os and they are all samsungs. i find it weird. samsung ACE, samsung Captivate, and an I9000. i did a thorough inspection on the ace and i found no liquid damage. did the same on the i9000 and there was some heavy corrosion found on the board. just before closing shop last night i went ahead and opened up the captivate and i found a very small area of corrosion where the charge port rests on the housing, i didnt have any time left to stay and clean it so i left it for monday im hoping that that has something to do with the autokick into download mode.
as far as software wise, i tried to flash the phone to stock and it took me a couple tries before i was successful, and it still kicked into DL mode as soon as i shut it down and powered it back on. so i flashed to 2.3 GB went to have a smoke during the flash, got back and found the phone running nice and healthy till i shut it down and restarted it, the end result was the same.
NOTE: with this autokick into download mode problem i am not able to enter recovery mode via the button combo.
check for dirt/ debris in the usb port.
More than likely the problem is actually a bad PARAMS.lfs file. Reflash the entire thing. You can find Heimdall One-Clicks here: http://files.teamkomin.com/index.php?dir=Captivate/ Enable bootloader flashing to reflash the params.
Were u able to correct this ?
I put my new Galaxy Note into download mode to begin rooting but my son turned off the phone on the warning screen, thinking it had stopped working because the screen wasn't moving and now the phone has completely stopped responding!
Has he bricked the phone or is there some way to get it back? I had been waiting for this phone all month too! I hope it's not as bad as I think it is
Thanks guys
I would suggest removing the batter for like 10 seconds, then charge it for a bit. Hopefully it just got drained, then try to get it into dl mode again. I sure am sorry if it's bricked already
Would I be able to take it back to the shop tomorrow do you think? I have been reading the forums and tying everything but I am getting no response at all from the phone
Phone not response after turn off from download mode
I turned my phone off during the download mode once time but I could get it back by holding the power , up volume, and center buttons many times. Eventually the phone was on and booted back to state before I put it into download mode
Same situation
Hi did you have any luck with your Note? I accidentaly interrupted odin and am having the same issue. There is absolutely nothing happening on my phone. I have taken out the battery, been charging for a few hours and have been trying to enter download mode many times.
... nothing ... I'll keep trying.
tknguyencsu, how long did it take you to get the phone to respond?

I'm sorry, but your device is bricked and there's nothing you can do because you interrupted Odin, while you were flashing... Send it to Samsung for repair or buy a new device. =\
Just to updated, I took the phone back and got a replacement and everything is fine. I am now putting off rooting my Galaxy Note for a we while
Still very much enjoying it without rooting it though
I'll try to make this short.....
I am using N910T3. Phone was charging in car while using (stop by roadside). Out of sudden it shutdown and went into reboot loop and the phone is extremely hot. I took the battery out for soft reset and try to turn on again. Phone will freeze at different screen (Lock Screen, Home Page, Samsung Logo, Powered by Android) and give two separate vibration before reboot.
I thought it is battery problem so I bought a new battery to try, but still the same problem. So I went on to backup all file before I perform hard reset. While doing that, I find out the phone can be use for longer before reboot if it was stay off for a long time. So I have this crazy idea: put it in a fridge. Surprisingly it works! The phone will not reboot anymore and I can manage to backup all file before doing anything else. Also, the phone will not charge if you plug in right after a few reboot.
Then, along with the fridge method, I perform factory reset through normal android setting. Now it will just stuck at powered by android screen while in reboot loop. I then try to flash with Odin, multiple times. Flash by Odin is complete, phone restart, then it freeze and reboot, at different screen (Installing system update, Erasing, powered by android).
Out of frustration I try with the fridge method to flash, and IT WORKS AGAIN!!!. The phone can now boot to welcome screen where you first setup your phone. However, it will then freeze again and reboot while doing so.
There was only this one time, where I left the phone off for a day after flash with a previous stock ROM, turn it on and skip as much setup as I can, finally reach the homepage screen, then will stay on without any reboot issue. I thought I finally fix it. I then power off the phone, put in my Sim Card and SD Card, power it on, then again, reboot issue appear.
I tried flash with latest stock ROM, previous stock ROM (one updates away), flash any stock ROM with pit file. I sometimes will get error code on device after flash (can't remember the exact error). I also cannot boot into recovery mode without flashing a twrp. Sometimes if success, I will get straight to Lock Screen without going through the phone welcome setup process. But again, none of these I tried can solve the reboot loop.
I may went too far and mix up all steps to the phone. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Or is my phone, as I believe, has a faulty motherboard that cause the reboot loop? Thanks in advance for reading through my problem!
Hello there, I had a Tmo Note 4 which I loved it until the end, it's a hardware problem and there is no fix for it unless you replace the board, by the time you buy the board and what you need to pay for labor you're going to expend a few hundred dollars, I also tried the freezer method but it finally the phone gave up, it does not turn on anymore. That was my experience. Good luck bud.
