Anyone had any success with this? I've tried the adhoc-infrastructure switch stuff with no avail. That worked when I was using 1.1 rooted.
I can connect to my wifi network fine. However, the switch between both modes for tethering to my Incredible is not working anymore. I've searched, haven't been able to find much info on this for phiremod.
Related - does v 6.2 address this issue? I read the changelog and saw nothing mentioned, but maybe someone else knows more than I Thanks!
Try use the open source Wifi tether; I am using 3.0 build experimental 14 and it works perfectly with my EPIC and NC. Supports infrastructure wifi also. Worked both with phiremod 6.0, 6.1 and 6.2..

Yeah, that's what I was using.
Not sure if it was the update to 6.2, or the fact that Wireless Tether doesn't like static ip/dns settings... but at any rate, it now works like a charm

Ahoy. I'm having issues getting wireless tether to work.
I'm currently about 3 revisions back, on CyanogenMod - 5.0 beta 4, baked via Modaco's kitchen, I believe - and wired tether works perfectly. Wifi, doesn't.
In my quest to get wifi tethering working, I've tried, but not limited to:
Modaco's custom rom (can't recall revision number)
Baked goods 1.1 (based on recent Cyanogen)
Modaco's sense rom (alpha 9, I think is the last I tried?)
Cyanogen's latest, as baked by Modaco
In all cases, wireless tether force-closes instantly, and wired either fc's, or in some cases opens, tells me the kernel supplied doesn't work for tethering, etc - final tally, in all cases, it just doesn't work.
In all cases, I've been wiping prior to testing - everything; dalvik cache, rotation, battery, everything. So it's not a wipe issue.
In all cases, I've been restoring back to my old, trusty nandroid backup of cmod 5.0b4.
The only thing I feel I'm lacking at this point is wifi tethering; why can't I get this working? And why is wired tether not functioning in any of the later roms?
Halp!

I have CM 5.0.4.1 (various other addons, none of which would alter tethering abilitiese) with an overclocked/undervolted .33 kernel which works quite well with wired, and wireless tethering. Now, I have never been able to get the built-in wired tethering to work so I simply use this:
http://android-wired-tether.googlecode.com/files/wired_tether_1_2.apk
I have had good success with wireless using:
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_2_0-pre8.apk
That is the latest update (6 days ago) and so far so good.
is usb debug on?
I think it should be on. Also do you have the tether-usb driver ?

Always had it on... As to the driver, unsure. Is that phone-side or client-side? As the client machine has been detecting and using the tether under one ROM, I'm guessing phone-side? I didn't have to install anything beyond the ROM noted to get it working...

Thanks, I'll try both of these.
Alright, progress report. At least I'm more up-to-date now?
Flashed a modaco kitchen 5.0.4 cmod w/ tck (and wired/non-wired tether). Same situation as before; wired reported unsupported kernel, wireless forcecloses the instant I try to enable.
Installed the two apk's listed above. Wired now works; no change on the wireless side, still forceclose as soon as I try to enable. What am I missing?
Forgive my ignorance, I am a EVO user and dont know much about the Droid, my brother had me root his Droid today and i installed the BUGLESS ROM, afterwards I installed the Wireless tether but it doesnt work, it turns on and connects but will not feed any internet on his laptop, is there a known issue on this ? what did I do wrong ? what is the solution ?
Try disabling the access control. On Simple Stunning 4.3 I ran into an issue with this. Disabling it allowed internet connection for me.

If that fails ^^ SimpleROM has working WiFi Tether
I don't know if you've tried this but after installing rom some times you need a custom kernel for wifi tether to work. P3droid has kernels to fix this and there are others I'm sure you know of. Just search alldroid, or droidforums. They should say kernel has wifi fixed.

hey, i am new to the whole android system. i have had my captivate for about a week. its running on 2.2 and its rooted. i updated to 2.2 as soon as i got it and the wifi worked perfectly. only problems that i herd of the wifi messing up was immediately after the 2.2 update but mine worked fine for about a week. the error that i get is disabled secured with wpa wpa2 psk. don't understand it, nothing changed just stopped working, any help would be useful thanks.

Try rebooting your router.
ive done all that. i just went to a few friends houses and it connects fine to all of their wifi one being the same ISP. so something happened to my router or accidentally changed a few settings. other than that i have no clue. the error i used to get is disabled secured with wpa wpa2 psk, and now after messing with a few things it just says disabled.
Used to be a common issue in 2.2 based ROMs, atleast in the ones I tried. Switch to a 2.2.1 based ROM.
When mine does that I usually make the phone forget your router, disable wifi, unplug router, plug it back in and then turn wifi on and find your router. Works for me hope it works for you.

updates? mine has d same issue, that's y Im connected via static ip now
I figured out how get it working. I download fxr wifi fix and rescue from the market and it actually fixed it lol. Basically the process put you in air plane mode, and removed all the previous remembered wifi connections. It has to do something else because I tried that a million times manually but I'm not complaining. Worked like a charm
I know some people use roms. But I haven't really looked to much into them yet. Any recommendations? I've seen a few on YouTube but some major features were not working. And where do I d/l them?
that solution worked for me. thanks
Need help getting WIFI tether up and running again.
Before I was running stock ROM and kernel, only rooted. Had Barnacle WIFI tether app and it worked perfectly.
Being a mac user, i didn't want to have to deal with all the extras to re-root phone after last update, and android 2.2.3 was not treating my OG Droid right, so I upgraded to Cyanogen Mod.
However, Cyanogen mod does not support WIFI tether, or wired tether to macs. I want to keep the ROM because it is sweet, but I would like to be able to stream data to my laptop again.
Other forums have suggested other kernels (like AdamZ's low voltage kernel) that may play nice with Cyanogenmod. However, I can't find a good link to some of these.
Help please, or suggest a good stable ROM that allows WIFI tethering.
Replied on CM forums as well. "Wi-Fi Tether" app works fine on my phone with CM. So does Barnacle (or it did, don't use that one much....prefer the others...)

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded WIFI tether from the market and it works.
Barnacle still doesn't work though. It goes through all the motions like it is going to work, but none of my other computers can see it. Either my phone no longer likes it, or it's something buried deep in the settings.
I wonder if it has something to do with running the App while I still had the Stock ROM installed?
So much as turning Wifi on seems to crash the phone.
Can anyone confirm that tether even works, if Wifi still crashes?
i read recently on droidlife that verizon is in the wrong to block tethering apps in the play store.
Hi,
I can't get WiFi tethering to work on my device, even though the ROM specifications imply that it is compatible and tested to work.
Basically, the problem is that when I activate the WiFi tether, the process goes smoothly and it becomes active, but none of my devices can see the SSID of my X8. I tried to scan for it both with my laptop and the Xperia Arc S device, and wasn't able to find it, albeit my laptop on one occasion actually managed to see it and connect to it successfully. When I tried the next time, the X8 wasn't there anymore.
I tried both the Wireless tether for root users app, and Barnacle wifi tether. Both have the same issue. I've also tried rotating through the channels and adding encryptions.
ROM is FroyoPro v2.5 and kernel is stock. I've read somewhere that stock kernel doesn't support WiFi tethering, but keep in mind the creator of the ROM tested it on stock kernel successfully, and I actually managed to connect to the device on a single occasion. Something else must be the issue.
Anyone else with the same problem? And possibly a fix?
EDIT: I've read that most phones can't connect to your WiFi tether because it's ad hoc mode. Is that the case here? And if it is, is it possible to make our X8 broadcast in infrastructure mode?
Had a few more successful connections to the laptop. No luck so far on Xperia Arc S.
Same problem on GDX stock kernel

As far as I can see, an app called WiFi tether is the only one capable to set up an infrastructure mode, but your ROM and kernel must support it. Also, most phones support searching for infrastructure networks and don't support ad hoc at all. I can't unlock my bootloader so I can't investigate this any further.
For now, Barnacle wireless tether is the only one that works for me, probably because it supposedly loads its own drivers, and I can connect to my X8 only from a computer.
I'm really getting annoyed with the stock kernel. One day I'm going to get drunk somewhere, and when I come home I'm going to attempt to unlock it. I swear (11w41)

I did try that, and it doesn't work even though the fix for tethering is installed in v2.5. Also, another thing that is annoying with it is that I have to reboot after each use, or else normal wifi wouldn't work. Barnacle is the only thing that works at the moment.
Good morning everyone.
I'm looking for help from anyone who can help me.
I'm looking for a rom that works well wi-fi tethering.
Barnacle does not work for me on all roms I've tried.
I'm a little desperate.
I'm waiting for someone to help me .....
I've tried much more rom like JB and ICS, but nothing to do.......
At the start, it works well, very fast, but after 5 minutes the display goes black, the network is disconnected and no longer works.
HELP ME!!
