EXT4 on stock ROMs - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, n00b question here.
Is it possible to convert the filesystem on a stock flash to ext4? E.G: Flashing a stock ROM, then flashing the OverCome kernel. Will that work?

Yes - only flash a zimage that supports ext4 ex. overcome_kernel with odin or heimdall.
Make sure ure a GSM or CDMA user so that u flash a correct kernel for ure phone.

Thanks very much : ) Tried it and it worked perfectly.

I agree. I did it yesterday and I have gone from 1004 to 1750+ on quadrant. You can actually see and notice the difference with normal use.

[Q] GB Bootloaders

have you done it, it doesn't create any issue? can i flash the bootloaders, flash a GB rom, make a backup, flash CM7, use it, make a backup, and restore back to a GB Rom using clockwork recovery?
I have used them on CM7/MIUI on GB bootloaders b4
No once on CM7/MIUI you have flash to stock and then to a GB rom, because the file system types are too different

You will need to check their kernels. Last time I checked some of them had issues with specific bootloaders. But this was a while a go.

[Q] - newbie - flashing jump help

Hi all,
I am wondering if someone will be able to clarify for me.
I have got the Darky 10.2.2 final and I want to install the Latest JVS from SamFirmware.
Will this okay or will this be dangerous? I just want to put it back to Stock and then root it using chainFire CF "Our Legend".
I am planning to just flash on top of the current Darky on the Phone.
Hope this make sense.
I am using ODIN and I have got JIG for download mode.
Thanks guys.
I went from Darky 10.2 to JVS (and then semaphore kernel) no problems..
I had no need to use a jig.

Thanks for the reply.
I am not too familiar with I9000.
Do i need to install the ext4 from CF afterwards? For the lag fix?
Reason i ask is because i noticed that CF has the addon file available for download.
Cheers
It's always a good idea to revert to rfs before flashing a new firmware (in case the kernel doesn't support ext4; i don't think stock jvs does).
Otherwise shouldn't be a problem
Flashed stock rom with pit included. Now using latest. Seems to be ojay. Dont think i will need lag fix
Cheers

Restocking for MTD ICS

I've been with AOKP and now CM9 RC1 roms for some time but I wish to restock to Gingerbread.
My concern is with the MTD filesystem : can I just flash GB stock image from SamMobile ? I remember it took a specific procedure to convert my filesystem to MTD, isn't there a procedure to convert the filesystem back from MTD prior to restocking ?
Thanks for your help !
Use overcome gb stock safe.
There is no procedure to convert bml to mtd. All taken care off by the installer when you flash cm9.
To convert back so far has to reflash with Odin with pit.

I wanted to unistall AOKP SGT7 and install the Overcome ROM. So today I followed the Overcome guide again and worked perfectly.
Restocked today, no problem.
Stock 2.3.6 is not so bad after all !

[Q] Help with Kernel Identification

Hi friends, I happened to install this ROM with Battery Extender 1.6 Kernel. Wanted to flash BE 1.2. Followed the steps. Showed installation Complete. But I still dont know how do i make sure the kernel flashed properly? Can somebody help please?
The kernel is the "Heart" of the ROM" and without the kernel the ROM wouldn't boot
so If after flashing the Kernel BE 1.2 from recovery, the ROM booted fine then I must say that kernel got flashed successfully
And you can make sure if the Kernel got flashed successfully by going to settings>about phone and then by checking kernel information(version)
No need to worry, the kernel CWM Recovery flashable zips of BE flash the kernels successfully,I have tried them personally on the Myth 3 ROM
cheers
Can you suggest me a kernel which wud enhance my battery Life?
Right now i'm using BE 1.2.

Hahah!!
Method 1: flash other kernel as CF-root b84, Spacekernel...and then BE1.2
Method 2: WIPE all your data (cwm 3 wipes) flash the custom rom and then BE1.2 kernel intead of 1.6
