I flashed Andromeda 3 2 days ago with Darkfire theme. I love this ROM and theme except for one problem. The coverage I get doesnt show 3G. It just has the bars. I can send text messages and phone fine, but when I try and email someone, or try and use GPS or the internet, I cant because it says I have no network coverage. Can anyone help?
This happened with me when I installed Andromeda 2 a couple months ago and was the reason I installed something else.

How do I go about checking the APN and making sure the data is turned on. Im a newb
Hold your power button for a couple of seconds and the 2nd menu item down will tell you if the data network is activated or not.
As far as the APN, I think that you could check that under settings--wireless and networks--mobile networks. I'm sure someone will let me know if I'm wrong about that
Please use the sticky, that's what they're here for.
What the poster above me said. On that note, thread closed.

I am having a very strange issue:
Whenever I am at home, and my G1 is connected via 3G, I cannot use data or make/recieve calls. If I enable the "Use only 2g networks" checkbox, it reconnects via EDGE and works perfectly. I currently have a service request out with TMO which should resolve in the next 24-48 hours, but I was wondering if anyone had heard of this issue.
TMo has no idea why I'm not getting signal, the problem continued even when I reverted to stock "Cupcake".
Things I've tried:
Reverted to stock firmware and unrooted phone (Didn't work; same symptoms)
Call T-Mobile, they removed and re-added me to network. (Didn't work; same symptoms)
Swapped SIM card at T-Mobile store (Didn't work; same symptoms)
T-Mobile service request in my area (Results pending)
Things I am going to try, but haven't yet:
- Return to stock firmware, reinstall CM 4.2.7.1
- Try an older CM like 4.2.4 or 4.2.5
- Connect to WiFi for data connection, see if this replicates the problem as with 3G
- Enable data roaming.
The fact that it only happens at home leads me to believe it's not a problem with the phone, however I'm more than willing to do more to rule it out.
Phone Specs
T-Mobile G1
Firmware Version 1.6
Baseband Version 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel Version 2.6.29.6-cm42 [email protected]
Mod Version CyanogenMod 4.2.7.1
Build Number DRC83
Dont tell T-Mo that your rooted thats a big mistake right there, that can be used against you if you ever have to get the phone replaced.Play around with the apn settings and make sure "always on 2G" isnt checked in settings. Maybe your house isnt in the small 3G coverage area, or your phone cant connect to it. Why would you think data and talking at the same time would be possible? Its either you answer or you stop browsing the web.

Yes, thank you, I know not to tell them that, they have zero idea. I also forgot to mention they did swap out my SIM card at the store.
Read what I posted. Turning on "Always On 2G" is the ONLY WAY I can make calls and use data at home. When that isn't on, the phone says it has a 3g connection with four bars, but will not dial out, take calls, or connect to web pages. I've also verified my APN as epc.tmobile.com which is correct, and this affects my voice and data communications.

Try another rom to confirm you cant get 3G, it could also be HW failure. But just try a older cyanogen or something else.Ive cant get a 3G signal with cyanogen roms for long but with a hero rom i seem to get 3G(maybe its my imagination)

It fails on both stock (untouched, unrooted), and CM. I'll try an older CM just in case though.

Rebooted phone between each of these tests:
3G With WiFi enabled: Same result, can't dial out.
Data roaming enabled, Wifi Disabled: No signal at all, 0 bars with "X" symbol.
Stock firmware: 3G won't dial out, forcing 2G works.
Downgraded to CM 4.2.4: Same symptoms.

What ! if you have 3G coverage you can talk and access data at the same time.
That is what 3G provides.

That's not what I'm trying to do! When I am at home, on a 3G connection, I cannot do ANYTHING. That includes text, voice, data, web, ANYTHING. If i force it to use Edge, all services work properly. This is not acceptable. T-Mobile's coverage map lists me as in a strong 3G area. It SHOULD work.
I dont know what to say, except stay on edge, you alreadt sent a req to tmo.
I am having the exact same problem. Would love to learn what you found out.
3G and H are appearing but nothings happening, no activity. This is after a data\cache wipe. Any fix or do I need to flash again?
On JPO
Check your apn settings. Also, try searching for your network provider.

It's set to orange internet, network provider is set to orange.
dial *#*2263* and make sure all the bands are selected (go under combi bands and select them all). Other than that, not sure.
That's not doing anything on my phone, you sure that works with froyo?
Nevermind, tried sgs tool, all are selected... Still not working..
Ps: swype is awesome.

Get the exact APN name from Orange and make sure it's set for internet.
Sometimes, telcos have multiple APN settings.

What he said. Sorry I got the code wrong, I was going from memory. Failing that (apn check), you may have to reflash, but I'd see if you can get some insight from someone a little more experienced than me
maybe he updated to froyo and lost his imei
Don't understand why but it appears to be working now, I also tried it this morning with no luck maybe it's due to location, but it was working fine before...
Very strange, will try later today and see if it's still working.
Shortly after getting home, got no service message, after reconnecting to network the 3G connection is dead again.
I'll reflash later, this isnt right..
Exactly the same after being flashed and reseting everything to defaults, this is great.
Last time I touch clockwork recovery.
Can't even make any calls now , either the sim cards messed up or the phone is...
I'm starting to hate this phone.
I bought an AT&T Galaxy Tab. I confirmed when I received it, data worked, and then discontinued my service.
In the meantime I flashed to Overcome ROM, flashed to JPD to enable phone calls, brought it to Canada and used it there with a Canadian GSM provider, and now am trying to reconnect my AT&T service.
I activated my AT&T service about an hour ago, and everything seemed to be fine. I received the welcome to AT&T text message. However, it just won't connect to any data of any sort.
I've reflashed the modem to JPA, which I've seen people say works on AT&T, without any change.
I've installed the AT&T data usage widget, and it says "No Network Available or SIM could not be verified".
My APN settings by default were set with everything normal except for an empty password compared to what I found online. I tried setting a password and no effect.
Under Settings => About device => Status it shows Mobile network state as either Disconnected or Connecting.
Settings => Wireless and network => Mobile networks => Use packet data is unchecked, and whenever I try and change it, it will change to "Turning on..." and then after a few seconds it will change back to unchecked.
All of the Samsung related data connection toggles like on the pull-down windowshade or on the long press of power act like they're changing something instantly, but have no effect.
Anyone have any ideas on what's gone wrong here?
Someone stated earlier that their tab was kicked off of the network as well. I would try a series of restarts to see if the problem persists. If it does, try contacting at&t directly.
I Haz 3D!

I've restarted it about a million times in the past hour. I'll give contacting AT&T a try, hopefully it won't come up that I'm missing something from the stock ROM.
Called AT&T, they knew absolutely nothing, and couldn't help at all.
I suppose I'll try flashing a few more modems, including stock, and then I suppose I might have to reflash to completely stock if that doesn't fix it.
Try the sim card in another phone. They might not have apportioned it correctly.
Any modem will get you at least voice and EDGE, so don't worry about that now.
I have wap.cingular apn for a voice and data plan.

Hmm I'll see if I can dig something up. However, I'm a little unclear on what will happen because this is the $15 AT&T Tablet data plan, and at best I might be able to scrounge up a phone.
The sim card automatically entered wap.cingular apn on my tablet plan as well.
I was soo excited when I found this thread. This is clearly my situation exactly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1083173.html
I was using the voice APN on a data plan. I deleted all the old APNs, created a new one that is just Broadband/Broadband for name/APN. Rebooted.
Hit connect, and.....it's still screwed up. Now it flickers back and forth on the status page between Connecting and Connected, and the status bar up top reflects the same - I'll see the H with arrows for a half second, and then it'll disappear again.
On the Mobile networks page, Use packet data now similarly flickers between checked on its own and unchecked and gray.
Okay, no idea why, but everything works now.
After Broadband failed to work, I tried changing it to APN Broadband. That didn't work either, so I changed it back to Broadband. Things then started semi-working in that the connection was still flickering on and off, but when it was on, data was actually being transferred.
I rebooted, and now it's fully working. Hope it stays that way. Seems to shift back and forth between H and 3G a lot considering I'm in the middle of a city with full bars not moving, but other than that, all seems well.
It would have been good to know about 1,000 word ago you only have the $15 broadband sim!
Apn is: ATT BROADBAND, and nothing else.

Hmm I have it set as Broadband, not ATT BROADBAND, and it's working for now so I ain't touch it.
Are people able to activate an AT&T Galaxy Tab on anything but the broadband sims?
Yes, I have voice and 3g data by ising a sim from my old android phone.
This phone is unlocked from verizon to metro. The phone was working beautifully for the past week and i am loving it. Today however, i went to a forms house and my phone said something about global mode being turned on or something and after that my internet has gone away. Someone please tell me what's wrong
My Internet turns off every now and then. Turn the phone off and see if it fixes it.
If not, go to apn settings and see if everything is okay.
If yes then go to network mode and change to gsm and umts. Turn off and restart.
T mobile
First of all sorry for my bad English. For those people on T-Mobile network after install elix r v2.0.1 ROM I lose my data connection. So I change the ROM to see if works but still no data working, so decided to restore ( nandroid twrp) and the same results.. So I went to cellular network, then APN and I change the T-Mobile GPRS on APn protocol to ipv4/ipv6 and I got data working.... I know some people already knows this. But people like me (noob) needs some help ..
Good news that it started working! Good follow up by the way. I was about to ask for more information in the OP but it's not needed in this case
I thought I was the only one. I just encounter this issue today
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I deleted everything on my phone for nothing it was just the APN protocol.I really got pissed
On a side note does anyone know what the exclamation mark is for? I've seen it on both my WiFi and Mobile Data icons.
The exclamation on the signal bars means one of two things.
1. You are not getting a data connection. This may likely be because:
2. Cellular data is disabled.
I just called T-Mobile yesterday (well, two days ago now) to make an ass of myself because I had the exclamation on my signal bars and I wasn't getting data. Turns out I had somehow disabled my cell data. Pull down quicksettings shade, tap the mobile data icon, and check that the cellular data toggle is enabled.
However, I did run in to another issue a few nights before where data was enabled, but I really wasn't getting a data connection. My signal bars were full, and it showed HSPA, even though I usually have LTE in that area. I fixed it by attempting to select a different APN in the list. The APN I selected failed, it automatically went back to T-Mobile, and data came back after that.
Odd, indeed; hasn't happened since.
Ah ok. I only see it now and again to be fair.
