Is anybody having problems with sync of contacts from Google after the GB upgrade?
When i go to Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> Google
and run the sync of Contacts, i get the message "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly".
I have added a new Google account and can sync Contacts from that account, but not from the existing Google account.
Tried to delete the first Google account, but then i get a message saying that it can only be deleted by a Factory Reset.
So how to delete the first Google account so i can add it again?
This is what i did to solve the probelm:
First, press menu and go to "settings" - click on "Accounts & snyc" - uncheck "background sync" - now use your back key to get back to the screen where you saw "Accounts & snyc" and then click on "Applications"
Locate "Contacts Storage" - if you can't find "Contacts Storage", click menu again and select filter, then select all - open the "Contact Storage" and click "clear data" of "Contacts Storage"
Get back to the first step above and recheck "background snyc" - it will start to snyc and take anywhere from 2 minutes to 15 minutes
If you have problems with "calendar" and "gmail" do the same steps above to for "Calendar Storage" and "Gmail Storage"

I'm sick of having to go into each separate email and sms account to do an "empty deleted items" command. I've tried googling but to no avail: is there any utility out there that will clear all the deleted items from all accounts in one fell swoop?
Ta v much.
Menu > Tools > Options.
Tap on the "Storage" Tab.
Empty Deleted items: Select "Immediately" and tap on OK.
Hi,
I use gmail app on a Samsung Galaxy S and after uppgrading to 2.2.1 yesterday when I delete email on the phone they are still showed as unread on the server (Gmail web client). IMAP is activated on gmail.
I want an email to be deleted on the server when I delete it on the phone.
Any ideas?
Edit:
I found a solution that works for me:

Clear your device's Gmail application data
Warning: The following steps may result in the loss of any drafts (unsent, saved, or unsaved) as well as ringtone, signature and other settings for Gmail.
We recommend proceeding with these steps only if the above steps don't resolve the issue.
Press your device's < Home > button, then press < Menu >.
Select Settings.
Select Applications, then Manage applications.
Select Gmail and then select Clear data. Answer OK when prompted.
I ran into a gmail sync issue. Went to fix it but I didn't see "Gmail Storage" application in the Application list under All.
Is it hidden or renamed?
I "fixed" the problem with a factory reset but if/when it happens again I'd prefer not to reconfigure and lose game and app settings.
Thank you for any insights.
go into the app management, go to gmail, tap "Clear Data"
I did try that before flushing to factory, just left me with a wait to sync screen in Gmail. I did give that 30 minutes.
I know on my old Motorola Droid one when this happened I'd go to application management and stop Gmail and clear it then clear the Gmail Storage app. After that it would sync up happily.
So after having an issue getting my Facebook to sync with my contacts I went through a lot of effort to find a solution. I eventually found the issue that was causing Facebook not to sync. At some point the Facebook app removed the sync option entirely from their app. Older versions had an option that you could enable contact syncing.
So to fix the problem first uninstall Facebook.
The next step is to go to Settings->Security and tick the option Unknown sources. This will allow you to sideload apps.
Then go to http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/facebook-2/facebook/facebook-31-0-0-20-13-android-apk-download/ and download the Facebook apk.
Then open up a file explorer and go to your downloads folder.
Tap the apk you just installed and then click install. You may need to press next a few times first or scroll down through the permissions.
After this press login and once you're at the main page for the app press the menu button.
Tap Settings.
Scroll all the way to the bottom where you will find Sync Contacts.
Tap Sync Contacts where you will be given three options. Choose the one that best suits your needs.
After that go to your phone's settings again
Find and tap Accounts & Sync
Tap the plus sign
Tap Facebook
Go through all you need to go through
Then when your back at the Accounts & Sync page tap Facebook
Make sure the checkbox next to Contacts is checked
At this point you can go to your People app and sync your contacts
I highly recommend you make sure Facebook cannot auto-update
To do this go to Play Store
Tap the three bars at the upper left
Tap My Apps
Go to Facebook and tap it
Then press the menu button
A menu should popup that has an Auto-update option with a checkmark. Make sure it is unchecked.
A little side note you will get notifications in Facebook to update. Just ignore them you do not have to update.
Hello,
I have the following issue: it looks to me that the contacts app on my Samsung does a kind of sync of contacts on the phone.
For example I have a DAV synchronization of my professional accounts, and as you see in the attached image, Mat is twice in my contacts, once in "Phone Storage" (I have never added him there or enable any kind of synchronization on my phone) and once in the normal DAV address book.
The problem I have is that in my work address book I have removed Mat's phone number, but it still exists in the Phone storage.
Can I turn off this automatic synchronization with the Phone storage, or at least force my phone to do it correctly?
I mention that this is the case with all my address books, it is the same behavior with my private contacts in Microsoft 365 and that I never edit my contacts on my phone, only in my work account or in my Microsoft 365 account directly, so I can say that the synchronization is always one way, from the external system to my phone.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Sorin
Try this :
Go to settings - apps - tap on the sorting icon on the right of the 'your apps' area and enable 'show system apps'.
Go to 'google contacts sync'. Choose force stop and disable it.
Thank you! I have done what you have proposed, but I still have all my contacts in the "Phone Storage". Can I delete them safely? How?
