This is a howto for editing all the splashscreens of your Wizard.
There are several tutorials however none of them deal with all 3 of them.
I myself had a lot of searching before I found the way to change HTC Logo.
All info is already on this forum, I only wrote this little tutorial, changed a tool and created some scripts to ease your work..
I have changed a few steps (just to make it easier)
I have included every program and file used.
WARNING:
DO NOT PROCEED IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE STEPS.
Do not blame me if you brick your phone, your house burns down, your girlfriend gets pregnant and all other catastrophies..
1st step: Splashscreen1 the HTC Logo
The HTC logo is the first splash screen you see (its the screen without the IPL/SPL ETC data).
It is a 240 W x 320 H 24 bits bitmap, but it is compressed..
In order to make a HTC_Logo Splash screen do the following:
1a) Create a 240x320 (Portrait!!) bitmap save it as 24 bits bitmap.
1b) Call this file htc.bmp and copy it to the folder with my files.
1c) Doubleclick htc-compres.bat -> Now a file called "HTC_Logo.nb" is created. The size of this file should be exactly 65536 bytes *
2nd Step: Splashscreen2 the Splash Screen
The Splash Screen is the second splash screen you will see when booting the phone
It is again a 240 W x 320 H 24 bits bitmap.
2a) Create a 240x320 (Portrait!!) bitmap save it as 24 bits bitmap.
2b) Call this file splash.bmp and copy it to the folder with my files.
2c) open nb_image_converter.exe; load your splash.bmp and click save .nb; call this file signed.002 ( not signed.002.nb )
2d) doubleclick splash2.bat. A file called signed-splash.nb is now created. The size of this file should be exactly 196608 bytes
3rd Step: Create the splash-installer.
3a) run nbfsplash-tool.exe (this file has been modified by me in order to simplify the process)
3b) Model ID is wizard (don't change)
- Choose the language of your rom (eg. WWE)
- leave OEM version; Operator version and CID empty ( So don't change!!!)
3c) Check File #1 and add the signed-splash.nb file; select the image name "Splash screen" and click the start address
-it should read "92000000" don't change!!
3d) Check File #2 and add the htc_logo.nb file file; select the image name "HTC Logo" and click the start address
-it should read "9D000000" don't change!!
3e) Click translate. a file called nk.nbf is created.
3f) open RUU_SPLASH.zip and drag and drop the nk.nbf.
3g) rename RUU_SPLASH.zip to RUU_SPLASH.exe
Now you are ready to flash your splash files.
doubleclick the RUU_SPLASH.exe and follow the well known actions (it will be done in less than a minute).
4rd Step: Splashscreen3 the Welcomehead.96.png
It is the third splash screen you will see when booting the phone
It is a 240 W x 320 H png file.
4a) Create a 240x320 (Portrait!!) bitmap save it as a 24 bits bitmap.
4b) Call this file welcomehead.bmp and copy it to the folder with my files.
4c) doubleclick welcomehead.bat, now a file called welcomehead.cab is created.
4d) install the cab on the phone.
Have Fun.
EqX
Attached: tools you need.
*
In order for this to work you need the MSVC 8.0 runtimes:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...EE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en
Note: If your own bitmap is compressed and the HTC_Logo.nb exceeds the 64K limit, the bitmap is too complex. The Lz compression can't handle it.
Save the BMP as a gif file, then open the gif and save it again as a bmp. The compression of gif is enough to simplify the bitmap.
Then try 1b-1c again.
If it still is not enough, then you'll have to convert to jpeg (try lowest compression first!) and re-convert it to BMP, after that try 1b-1c again..
created some more scripts
I have added some scripts in order to eliminate the use of a hex-editor.
Made a cab-creator to change the welcomehead.96.png.
Modified the tut (simplified).

Following your instructions I have created the file [htc.bmp] then clicked the file [htc-compres.bat] nothing happens.
section 2 works fine.
Sugestion for where I'm going wrong?

It's not your fault!
I forgot to include a file.
Now it has been included in the zip file in the first post.
[edit]
removed the file because startpost had been updated some time ago..

I also attached the file here so you dont have to download the whole zip.
unpack it and put it in the folder with my files.

Thanks for that, works a treat.
finally i can modify the HTC-Logo by myself! thanks a lot!!
I tried. Problems here:
I made a 240x320 24bit BMP file (htc.bmp, i double check its properties), after i run htc-compres.bat, a file named HTC_Logo.nb was created, so far so good? no, the file size WASN'T 65,535 but 119,004, any hints?

I encountered it once, I saved it as a gif file, and then opened it again and saved it again as a bmp. The compression of gif was enough to simplify the bitmap.
It won't work always, in some cases you even have to convert to jpeg (try lowest compression first!) and than back again.
Superb - I love it whena plan comes together.
Great little tutorial, worked a treat.
Cheers

great work. makes my life easyer.thanks!!!!!
I'm using a wizard, i had no problems changing splash screen using other thread instructions, but theres something i can't get here; you guys talk about 2 or even 3 different splashes, i had only one;] seriously, first there goes the splash i uploaded, then after a few seconds, the same picture with rom, radio etc numbers on it... is it other than usually? enlight me;]
also... you may find it a bit funny, i havent ask anyone yet... my wiz. boots quite long... it's more then 2 minutes usually, sometimes it's longer... i seriously doubt it's normal, but haven't have time to hard reset yet... tell me please, how funny is it for you?

The 1st screen you see (without rom radio spl etc) is the HTC Logo
The 2nd screen you see (with rom radio spl etc) is the splash
The 3rd screen you see (again without rom radio spl etc) is the welcomehead of windows mobile 5.0
A lot of roms use the same picture for the first 2 screens.
Some may even use the same as welcomehead.
Excelent Work
Nice job,
Can I put this how-to on Molski.Biz?
Offcourse I will give you the credits for it

UPDATE:
First I want to thank every one, I also want to give a shout out to
Mrdaviso for making the sound possible on cm7, please give him thanks for his thread on this. I've been waiting to have sound for the animation for sooo long and now it finally works and thanks to him.
I stripped all the text out of the animation except for the android logo and the preview below is exactly what it is, he screams and then stares at you and blinks until your phone boots.
The scream I choose is one I thought was appropriate... the original Godzilla roar! But if you really want, and I honestly would love to see more sound files made, please offer others. You can use mine as a template for syncing with the animation. I love to see others post sounds for this!
Heres the d/l link hope you guys like this. This zip file contains the bootanimation.zip, android_audio.mp3 (godzilla) and the bootsnd.sh (to setup sound playing on phone bootup)
Installation of the new un-branded versions with sound!!! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
First how to setup boot animation sound on cm (link to the op):
To install boot animation:
1. just unzip the screaming_android_with_sound.zip file on the root of your sdcard
2. copy the bootanimation.zip file to the system/media folder replacing the old one or renaming the old one and copying this one over if your just testing.
3. Android wins again!
Changing the ResolutionThe resolution for the animation is 480X800 if you'd like a different size:
1. copy the bootanimation.zip file to your computer.
2. open the zip and edit the desc.txt 's second line (480 800 not the 25 read below) to match your phones resolution.
3. save the file and close the zip program
4. you shouldn't need to unzip the bootanimation.zip file to do the above
5. if you do need/want to unzip it when rezipping make sure the compression level your zipping it on is "store" or it won't work.
Sound doesnt seem to match up?... change to animation speed in the desc.txt file:
1. copy the bootanimation.zip file to your computer.
2. open the zip and edit the desc.txt 's second line (only the 25 not the first 2 numbers) to speed it up or slow it down.
3. save the file and close the zip program
4. you shouldn't need to unzip the bootanimation.zip file to do the above
5. if you do need/want to unzip it when rezipping make sure the compression level your zipping it on is "store" or it won't work.
NOTES:
want a different sound on the animation... the sound file has to be called android_audio.mp3 for it to play, this file will play for any new bootanimation you install unless you remove the android_audio.mp3 file and it has to be an mp3.
Programs to help... if you don't have root explorer get "Super Manager" from the market it does r/w and root privileged file exploring (and more) just like root explorer and its free.
I'm only giving this out in zip file format, I'm not doing a flashable as its to hard to keep up with all the different roms and resolutions. I provide instruction on how to change the resolution of the animation to fit your phone.

Yeah I'll try and post the bigger one tomorrow. I should since I actually have an Evo myself.
Looks good except the text which says Android 2.2
Very Nice!! Great work!! Much appreciated!!
Is this version big enough for the Nexus or MT4G?

Im going to try and make the bigger version soon... give me a couple of days.

Really would like the larger version. The smaller one you posted I initially doesn't play at all on my X.
Btw, for those with Droid X's and other newer phones running FroYo, bootanimation.zip goes in /data/local as primary. It only pulls from /system/media if nothing is in /data/local

Any word on this for wvga devices like the EVO or Droid X? I'd really like this unbranded, but the current unbranded version just appears as black on my phone.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I honestly don't have the time to do it... maybe in the next couple of days.
i tried to change the size for 480x800
but it doesn't work..
how can i do for a full screen on my galaxy s?
is wqvga (240x400) is supported?
Any chance of the unbranded screaming droid formatted for the HTC EVO Shift 4G which I believe is 480x800?
I will try and trim this on the top and bottum to remove everything but the droid... I just don't have the time to do much more on this, but I will try and finish this off, just wish I hadn't put that on there.

Bump for sound and unbranding!!!
Made a 2001: A Space Odyssey Boot animation

file download here
http://www.multiupload.com/NDRHZ1QHME
and here
File name: bootanimation.zip File size: 87.75 MB
See my sig for other boot animations
Looks pretty cool, ill give it a try.
Here is my 2nd Bootanimation.zip!
I made it with Cinema4D. I use it on my NS (i9023), so i don't know wich phone this works with.
I only named it "Icy" because i used Ice Textures for this and i had no idea how to call it.
This zip is NOT flashable in CWM recovery. You will have to copy it with a file explorer like ES file explorer or Root Explorer.
Have Fun!

Hello,
Ive compiled a download for CM10 bootanimation (the image/animation you get when you start your phone up)
Simply download this zip file and use the Root explorer of your choice to place this file in System/Media
then set its permissions to
Owner= Read + Write
Group= Read
Other= Read
Restart your phone and enjoy
Note: The Image doesn't fit exactly, ive tried resizing it to the correct format but the image is distorted,
this zip file contains an image 320 pixels by 320, however the black background matches the screen and so its unlikely you will
notice the image doesn't fit exactly
P.S ive also uploaded a full CM9 animation that does fit perfectly (320x480)
just use instructions above to "install"
CM10 = http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?jnpdap5ez88cw5d :good:
CM9= http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?uy1hs4c5yw25yja :good:
I do not claim ownership of any of these Bootanimation my only credits are
1. Resizing the CM9 Animation
2. Uploading them both to mediafire so that other may use them
Nice job! AS for me, it works perfectly!
