So I rooted an android device for the first time and decided to try out the Das BAMF remix 1.6.2 and im noticing that it doesnt look quite like the screenshots. For example, I have a 4 bar signal strength indicator and the tool bar is missing from the notifications pull down. Is there something I'm missing? A setting I need to enable?

First off, you said Android phone...is it a Thunderbolt? If so, then start over and download 1.6.1 full Rom. Then flash the add-on zip 1.6.2, I'm pretty sure 1.6.2 was just an added zip to the full Rom?
If its not a Tbolt then it won't work.
Yes, it the HTC thunderbolt. Hmm, Maybe I don't actually have 1.6.2 installed then. Under software information the build is "1.13.605.7_Das_BAMF_1.6-Remix.
I also don't have any more than the original three power options. So for example, when I hold down the power button, I don't see "hibernate", "silent mode", etc.
Being new to this I'm not even sure what I should be searching for. Is there a good site that explains all this stuff?
You really need to go the Das bamf 1.6.1 thread and follow all the instructions. This IS the place to be to learn everything you need. I would download the Rom again and do a wipe before installing. If you use Rom manager it will give you the option.
My advise is to read as much as possible! Saves time in the long run.
I agree totally wipe in clockwork and then flash the 1.6 bamf. Then boot set up phone with accounts and what not.
Backup.
Flash 1.6.1.
If that doesn't work then try the Remix. I like that one a bit better.
Did you just flash the 1.6.2 patch only? If so, you didn't really install the ROM, just a patch. Install 1.6 remix, then the patch. Should fix your issue.

No thats the weird thing. I followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027804
I rooted, then installed ROM manager and created a backup.
...copied the BAMF remix 1.6 to the SD
...loaded ROM Manager and installed BAMF Remix from zip
...rebooted and everything ran great except it didnt look the same
I can change CPU speeds inside the DasBAMF toolkit. I also have the DasBAMF Dusk skin. It DID change my battery symbol and charging animations. It also added a few utility apps like Titanium Backup. Other than that I can't see or notice and differences really except my toolbar in the notifications menu is gone completely.

When you say toolbar in the notifications menu what do you mean exactly? Are you talking about the recent apps list? If so that is removed from DasBAMF...
I'm not exactly sure what it would be called. If you look at the far screenshot on the right, at the top of the screen inside the notifications pull down, there is a panel of options for toggling things like gps, bluetooth, etc. Is that an additional mod I need to install?
Did you verify the checksum of the ZIP file before you flashed it. I had this issue with 1.5 when I flashed a corrupt download.
There is probably an app someplace that will check the md5 if the .zip is still on your SD card or since you said the toolkit is installed you can fire up the terminal.
In the terminal:
change directories to the SD card
Code:
cd sdcard
if you didn't put the ROM on the root, find out where it is
Code:
find -name dasbamf_1.6nte.zip
use the results of the find to locate the .zip
for example if you put the ROM in a directory named BAMF then you would calculate the checksum like
Code:
md5sum BAMF/dasbamf_1.6nte.zip
if it is on the root then just use
Code:
md5sum dasbamf_1.6nte.zip
repeat for the patch and against what is listed in the DasBAMF thread.
I checked all the md5sums and all looks well. Could it have been anything with the root method? I followed this guide for rooting: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...he-htc-thunderbolt-and-unlock-its-bootloader/
I'm going to back everything up and clear everything out, then try flashing remix again.
I tried some other roms(twisted sense, bolt of photons, virusrom) and they were all like this. The roms flashed fine, but then I'd never get the 6 bar signal strength indicator as well as some other mods.
Those are the same instructions I followed to root.
You didn't mention it, but did you install the new radio? It is linked in the 1.5 section of the BAMF Remix thread.
I don't think you have any option other than to try again. I would try booting into recovery and manually cleaning up data, cache and dalvik and then install from the .zip.
I would also allow the phone to boot all the way up after flashing the 1.6 rom and then rebooting it again and making sure that 1.6 took before applying any patches.
No, I didn't install the new radio. I guess that wasn't included in the 1.6 ROM? Maybe I'm confused on the fundamentals of these roms. Should I install 1.5, install the radio update. Then move to 1.6, etc?
I tried a fresh install of 1.6 to no avail. Same result as always. Its not that big of an issue that I have these features, I just want to know what it is that I'm not doing/doing wrong so I can not screw something up in the future.
I'm also new to android and having this same issue. Followed the same guide to root. I did remix 1.6.1 through the ROM Manager right after rooting and I don't have the additional power options, controls on notification pulldown, or the 6-bar signal. Tried doing ThunderROM and also have the same thing.
Aha! Interesting clue here. When I lose service and it shows me as 0 bars, it displays the 6 bar indicator! But then once I have service again it goes back to 4 bars indicator. Very mysterious...
Just flashed das bamf nte from Rom manager and that got everything working. Haven't gone back to remix to see if that works now too.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I had the exact same issue with my phone until today. I rebooted in Recovery and did a full wipe to factory settings. After that was complete I installed the Das Bamf Rom from my SD card and voila, the Power Control widget was working and the extended reboot list. I previously tried installing through ROM Manager with the same results, so perhaps you'll have the same luck as I did trying this method.
I'm having issues as well. I am trying to change my battery meter and the drop down menu, but it says operation aborted.
I thought all you were supposed to do was download the file, change the name to update.zip, then go rom manager and install it through there.
Btw, these are the files I am trying to flash..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043589
Edit, I'm running BAMF Stripped 1.1
I rooted for the first time this past week as well. Using BAMF. I found it best to start with going into recovery mode and installing the ROM or updates from the SDcard in recovery mode after wiping all the cache. This seems to make sure that all the changes take place. BTW 1.6.3 remix runs awsome.
I ran into the issue's of power bar not being there as well as the 3rd (right) drawer not using the setting I applied. The single strength bars were still default as well. After following the process of recovery mode everything is set and working as it should.

NOTE: This will work with *ANY* rom/theme. As long as you can get MetaMorph running, its should work.
To flash simply put BlurAnimations.zip into the "AndroidThemes" directory on your sdcard, then go into terminal type the following:
Code:
su
mm.sh -i
Then follow the prompt. Select #2, then select the BlurAnimation.zip file, then once its done press 1 to select the frameworks-apk and hit enter to flash.
REBOOT is necessary after this.
Find out more info at the MetaMorph thread.
For those that have no clue what the Blur animations are:
-When you hit 'menu' key, it 'bounces' up and down before snapping into place.
-When you open or close apps, it zooms in and zooms out of the app image.
Before you needed to flash a theme that included these in order to use them. Now you can flash these on top of the default rom theme, or on top of ANY of your favorite themes.
To go back to defaults, simply flash your rom or theme back again.
(Technical info if anyone is interested: Blur animations reside in frameworks.apk in res/anim/ folder, there are about 45 files that you can pull and drop into any themes/roms and it'll work, this just does that job very very easily for you)
If anyone wants to do a little animation video/gif of this in action, please give me the link to post as example.
It only works on ASOP roms, not hero correct?
If metamorph works on hero roms (I'm not sure, try installing it) this should work on any rom as well. All it does is replaces files in frameworks.apk>res>anim which hero roms have as well.
Its better to do a nandroid backup before you run it though, just to be safe :]
This would probably work in hero roms, but not entirely sure, Just do a nandroid before testing.
Also, Awesome idea Prash, Blur animations on any rom without having to flash a theme, very nice.
Stericson
Thanks Prash,
Just wanted to let you know this worked great for my magic with the gchrome theme (gChrome-0.3.8-CY4.2-LS.zip). No FC's as reported in MM thread.
Not working in Rogers Mod :-(
Prash - I was trying to do this in "Enomther's Rogers Mod v1.9.1" and it says:
ERROR: The theme control file says that we are looking for the dir framework-res within /sdcard/AndroidThemes/BlurAnimations but it could not be found! Invalid theme.
I tried both options 1 and 2 (full theme / theme of my choice) - it is giving the above error when trying to apply the Sub Theme step :-(

Could you try again with the latest mm.sh files? I just tried the blur animations and it work fine. I'm sure even that rom has a frameworks-res directory, i usually do option 2, then pick the right file, then hit enter to apply.
Very cool, yet simple theme. Im lovin this new system for themes

Tried twice or thrice but ended up with the same error. Requested the frameqork-res.apk from enomther so that I can push it to the ROM to get the blur animations...
Not sure whether it is the issue with the ROM (since I ran it sucessfully in Cyan 4.3.2.1)
the blur animations work on hero. I am not sure if this method works on hero though, i would imagine since it is the same exact directory.
good job. works on dwang 1.13 on mt3g.
re-updated this but it doesn't work for the nexus for some reason only the bouncing part i tried everything even tried my own through searching..
Works just great on Cyanogen's 5.07 Test3 Rom for the Dream/Sapphire.
Very happy with it as on this Rom the animation style was "slide" instead of "zoom", and the latter is wayyyy cooler
So thanks! This makes my whole phone-experience much nicer

No problem glad I can help still trying to figure out how to make this work for Android 2.1 phones.

I am using an Android 2.1 phone...
[Edit] Got to admit: while applying this theme the telephone reboots by itself (during the update). After booting up all works fine though. Just applied the new DarkStar theme which removed the blur-effect so after flashing that theme I Metamorphed this Blur morph again, phone rebooted, and works well yet again (Cyanogen 5 Test3 + hotfix + DarkStar 2 + Blur anims + Cloverdale's Blackbar + overclock kernel = phone heaven)

Description
Basically I have taken Kos's theme and made it more of a black/grey theme. I have gone deeper into the OS and replaced most of the green stuff with black/grey etc.
There are also bits from themes found at xda for other Android devices. Ended up doing a lot more than what i should of really
There is still a bit of green left and most of it is where it makes sense to have it (some check boxes, indicators etc).
WORKS ON MoDaCo MCR3.1 & 3.2 Beta's ROM.
Fixed or should i say replaced, the lock screen for a different one . Hopefully that is it
MetaMorph Version>>>GET IT FROM HERE <<<
Update.zip Version>>>COMING SOON <<<
This theme is purely for people who like black/dark themes. Please don't write bad feedback or that it isn't to your taste, as i won't change it or provide reasons for my choices .
Use the attached Wallpaper for use in SenseUI. In Android it is already default
Big thanks to Kos for base theme, tristan for inspiration & all the CREATORS & ORIGINATORS of anything that may of been theirs in some form!!... (u know who u are )
Enjoy.
KEEP A LOOK OUT.
Details!
Update.zip is 31.8mb in size as its a fair few .apk's
Metamorph file size is just over 5mb, so i have achieved a smallish footprint of this theme.
Modifications
Rework of Android UI
Customised Keypad dialler
Status Bar Icons from HelloMoto
Over 40 apk's have been modified in some way
Changed the Screen Lock pattern icons
Lots of stuff i cant think of.......
*I have only modified the apk's i am currently using on my ROM build (3.2 Beta 5; very LITE version)
Basically i have edited a lot of stuff, changed a lot stuff and borrowed a lot of stuff To make this theme, i like it, now...
And am gonna be making a LITE ROM, based on MCR builds and also a ASOP build based on one of those builds...with this type of theme built in.
FYI
Your Home screens will be reset, i cant do this yet (put them like i want), but in future i will be able to, just need to open the xmls with hextool..will be same result with the update.zip too.
I have used Beautiful Home here in my screen shots for my Home....i just wanted to show you a comparison of HTC vs Android (not much difference)
The Battery Widget is BatteryLife
The Settings Widgets are Beautiful Widgets
The News Widget is News Buzz
I did the Google search bar in the Android UI too
I am ultimately NOT responsible for anything that occurs from use of the provided theme. Use at your own risk and hopefully enjoy it.
B)
How To Install Metamorph Theme
Always BACKUP your Hero (Nandroid or whatever you use)
For best INSTALL RESULTS for Metamorph & update.zip, Re-install current ROM fully, let it install, set up, then reboot when finished...
Then either....
see below for options....
Metamorph Version
1. Download the Metamorph application from the Market
2. Download AndExplorer application from the Market
The above are required, Metamorph uses AndExplorer to search your device for themes
3. Download then copy the .zip theme from this thread, to your SD card to a location you know of.
4. Open Metamorph, and select 'Pick Theme' after it checks your device
5. Select the theme from its location, then Install All (Apply All).
6. It will extract the theme, and a progress bar is now shown in Metamorph as it extracts the theme.
7. It will then install each apk one at a time... it will take some minutes...and some more.....
When it asks to force close an app, please do so.
** I recommend keeping the phone awake during the installation to ensure it installs as quick as possible **
8. When it asks to REBOOT, it probably won't (even in newest Metamorph version), so just manually reboot by turning device off and then on again.
Update.zip Version
1. Download then copy the .zip theme from this thread, to your SD card (ROOT)
2. Boot Device to Recovery mode & flash as normal...
3. Reboot
RESULT
If you already run other themes in some form or another, the best install method above will benefit you most
Nobody tried this yet?
Come on, please leave feedback.

I tried your Theme and its still ob my hero,so i like it.
There is just one thing i dont like:
The dark black coloured Status bar at The Top. Its to dark dir me. When you pull it down its a little more grey, this colour i would like to See as Standard.
Hope you. get what i mean.
Cheers
I get ya bro....
But i prefer the Black bar , thats how i do it....
If you want i could make u a quick Grey bar like the pull down and post later tonight (am at work) and u can just update with Metamorph
right ive installed it this is my first time trying metamorph so bare with me. i followed your instructions above it installed and i then rebooted and ended up with a few problems
-it removed my people.apk completely off the phone
-removed most my widgets from my home screen but i just added these back on
-it completely removed the htc picture frame widget altogether
- when i press the phone button it just brought up a text saying phone it didnt actually open the dailer
- lock screen was still the same
- the pattern password screen was still the same
ive restored my nandroid backup and will try again.
still a no go for me im affraid i tried to install some parts individually but im still having problems. if you could do a update.zip that i can apply from the recovery menu id appreciate it as i like the look of the theme from the screen shots
@ mjcook1984
Thats strange.....what ROM are you running.
For it removing apk's; well thats something i have never seen.
All those widgets, are actually in the metamorph theme too, so it wouldnt remove them.
Try installing one at time.....bit tedious but hey.
Update.zip will come, i made one last night, but it doesnt work fully.
I even sucessfully installed this theme to my own ROM (based on Modaco 3.2 beta 5), it has no rosie etc.
Even tho the ROM didnt have some of the apk's it still installed fine and everything working fine.
I would recommend, wiping, then when fully booted, reboot, then use Metamorph again. NEVER UPDATE a metamorph theme ALWAYS replace.
thers defo something strange i just tried kos-worlds black eclair and that came up with the same problems.
im running modaco 3.1
ah just realised ive not got andexplorer ive been using astro will try again
Hmmm....i tested mine originally on MCR 3.1 (and 3.0 & 3.2) so it should work....
I know you wont want to, but try wiping, reflashing the 3.1 ROM, rebooting, then running Metamorph.
Strange. Have you used any other Metamorph themes before?
no first time ive tried to use it. just tried again with andexplore installed still the same problems but this time the htcpictureframe.apk stayed. i am using a custom theme that was applied from the recovery menu i wonder if that causing the problem. il re flash 3.1 and see if that sorts it
That might be it....
Try again bro
UPDATE.zip now available
update.zip coming to the first post soon....
Posts updated accordingly.

This is a black status bar theme that looks just like the one you had back in the days when you were running the Eris OTA ROM. This theme is for medium resolution phones like the Eris, Hero, etc.
Gingerbread ROMs
Tested with GSB 1.5 and 2.2, but it should install just fine on any medium-res GB rom. For now there is a single theme file that updates the top status bar. I haven't yet ported the pull-down notification panel.
INSTALLATION FOR GINGERBREAD ROMs:
Download the attached HtcStatusBar4GB.zip file and then install using ZipThemer with these instructions. ZipThemer is free from the market.
CM6-based ROMs (Froyo)
I developed and tested it with KaosFroyo v32, v37, and v39. It will work on most any CM6 ROMs with the same screen resolution as the Eris.
There are two themes, one which just sets the color and icons in the top status bar, and another that updates the notification pull-down panel. Install both if you want the full HTC notification experience.
INSTALLATION FOR CM6 ROMs:
This is now a ZipThemer theme, but also remains compatible with MetaMorph.
1) Install the ZipThemer version 1.1 or above from the Market. Its free!
2) Download the attached HtcBlackStatusBarTheme.zip. Also download HtcNotificationPanel.zip for the full HTC notification experience. The first sets the top status bar, the second modifies the pull-down notification panel.
3) Fire up ZipThemer.
4) Click "+Theme" and browse to, then select, HtcBlackStatusBarTheme.zip. Repeat if you also want to install HtcNotificationPanel.zip.
5) Optionally select a different output zip file, and/or edit the ouptut filename using the "+Output" and "*Output" buttons.
6) If installing both the status bar and notification panel at the same time, expand the HtcBlackStatusBar item and uncheck the "CM Tweak Extras file", leaving the corresponding item checked under HtcNotificationBar.
7) Click "Built It!" to create the flashable update.zip file. The output file is signed and ready for flashing! But don't flash yet, you have to set the notification text colors in separate steps, so continuing on...
8) Press Menu, Settings -> CyanogenMod Settings -> User Interface -> Tweak extras -> Select a Theme. Select HtcBlackStatusBar if you are only installing the status bar changes, or HtcNotificationPanel if installing both the bar and panel themes.
Click "OK".
10) Now boot into recovery and flash your update.
The file FroyoStatusBarTheme.zip can be used to return the status bar and notification panel to the stock Froyo look and feel. This theme also contains a cmparts_ui.xml for setting the clock and text colors back to black. E.g., same instructions as above to install.
kellinwood said:

Please read the KNOWN ISSUES section below.
INSTALLATION:
This is my first theme and I'm still learning. THIS IS NOT A
FLASHABLE ZIP FILE! The theme must be installed manually via adb commands, so you must have the Android SDK in order to install
this theme.
1) Make a Nandroid backup first!
2) Extract the zip file somewhere on your computer
3) Using adb, execute the following command:
adb push sdcard/cmparts_ui.xml /sdcard/cmparts_ui.xml
4) On your phone, press Menu, Settings -> Cayanogen Mod Settings -> User Interface -> Tweak extras -> Import colors from XML.
Click "OK". Do not reboot yet. This step sets the clock and date text color to white.
5) Using adb, execute the following commands:
adb remount
adb push system/framework/framework-res.apk.theme /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb push system/app/Mms.apk.theme /system/app/Mms.apk
adb reboot
KNOWN ISSUES
The home screen background image always reverts to the default KaosFroyo image when installing.
Sometimes, after pushing the apk files to the device and rebooting, I would have to re-add my Google and Facebook accounts. The sympom is an empty contact list, no icons in the call log, etc.
On rare occasion the phone would enter a boot-loop after installing the apk files. If this happens pull the battery, boot into recovery, and restore from a known good nandroid backup.

Its fairly easy, I took the plunge a few days ago and all is well so far. Still much to learn for me the curve is steep.
Updated to MetaMorph. All the details are in the first post.
Thanks awesome. I miss Sense but I want Froyo. I can't wait for a Sense Froyo ROM for the Eris.
Thanks, glad you like it.
I don't miss Sense myself, I just think HTC did a better job with the status bar than Google did.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
One problem. The bottom graphic of the notification shade is still the original Vanilla white. Was it suppose to change to the black like in the Sense UI?
I also couldn't import the XML file via Cyanogen menu. There was no option to import. Only options were to load themes from SD and it only had Stock and Dark as options.
KaosFroyo v35.1

This theme does not update the notification panel (the pull down part), so yes it remains stock white.
I haven't installed v35 yet... didn't realize it was out until just now. I'll post again after I get that sorted out.

Thanks. I fixed it myself. I could make this theme, I am just lazy =] That is why we need people like you <3
I've added another theme for the HTC pull-down notification panel. Download HtcNotificationPanel.zip and install it using the same seven steps.
I updated the instructions in the first post for CM6.1 (KaosFroyo v35 and beyond).
Thank you!
This is exactly what I've been looking for! I love Froyo, but missed the HTC Status bar.

This is just what I've been looking for. Unfortunately it's such a chore to install it whenever I flash a new ROM I stopped doing it (I do not like the light status bar). It takes me at least two passes of about 15 steps and it never applies the first time. Metamorph always seems to reboot the device in the middle causing me to start over. It is possible to make this a flashable zip? That would be great.
I am installing this theme as we speak, but how long does Metamorph usually take to patch this stuff in? It's been doing the framework for like 10 minutes now.

It would be my first flashable zip, but I think I can handle it.
If I understand how they work, it means that entire files in the filesystem are replaced and not simply patched like MetaMorph does. In theory this means that the update.zip should be targeted at specific ROMs or major OS version (2.1, 2.2, etc).
Which ROM do you run most often and what is the OS version -- 2.1 or 2.2? Are you just upgrading the ROM versions or going from one ROM to another (e.g., from KaosFroyo to CELB, etc).
Also, are you installing just HtcBlackStatusBarTheme, or both HtcBlackStatusBarTheme.zip and HtcNotificationPanel.zip?
FYI, the MetaMorph delay setting really does help to stabalize the Metamorph install process. I've got mine set to 5000 and it only reboots when patching framework-res.apk, and the reboot seems to happen after it has successfully patched anyway.

MetaMorph usually crashes just after successfully patching framework-res.apk. Usually the device just reboots but in your case it appears to have hung so pull the battery. Be sure you set the Metamorph delay setting to the maximum value (5000). This seems to help a bit.
Also, apply the sub-themes one-by-one instead of using "apply all".

I use Kaos Froyo, currently on v37. I do flash both zip files and have gotten it to work a couple of times. I think it took four tries last time and I did have the max delay in MM.
Thanks for considering my request.
I am very new to this, so I am not sure what to looks for on the forum.
I generally followed instructions from Lifehacker and this forum, used androot to root my phone, done it after two days.. (finally figured out I had to downgrade my phone.. )
So now I'm rooted, I have super user access, and I have rom manager installed. Here are a couple of things I know I want to get to do:
- install froyo (as stable as possible)
- uninstall sprint crapware (the NFL, navigation and others.. who needs them)
- possibly overclocking a little by what I read, I have another battery and I'm willing to try and give overclock a "little" each time to see if it works.
Before I do anything (I backed up my current settings with rom manager), I wanted to post here and ask you guys what I should do first, and how do I restore things back to normal if something goes wrong?
Thanks a bunch!

Go to the development forum, you should find the latest Froyo builds out there (check my signature for the latest ;-)).

If you install CM, it will remove all apps anyways. If you want to know how to remove apps - there are threads all over the place for it.
Also, attached is a script I wrote to remove apps (apk). It's a very simple straightforward script. Here's what you do, create a subfolder (not needed) on your sdcard, copy the two files into the folder, update "Apps-to-remove,txt" with all the apks you want to remove (with the full path) and run the script through terminal or adb shell. This script is not needed, but just simplifies the job, that's all.

Goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756774, read through and use, as appropriate. If you use the latest build by Jaybob, you may not need any kernels from this thread, as the builds have the latest code.
Hope this helps.

To restore everything back to "Out-of-the-box", just run the official RUU from HTC/Sprint.
Thanks Andy.
Right now I'm going through Roms (I heard good things about Cyanogen but I can't download it because their registration page is messed up..) and I tried what comes for free with Rom Manager, which almost gave me a heart attack when the phone started... fortunately I read the instructions to restoring things so I was able to get back to my old rom (whew!!)
But now, for some reason, I don't have the market app on my phone! how am I to download rom manager...
Is it possible to chat with you or someone at least for a couple of minutes as I go through this, because at this rate I won't have my phone working well until tomorrow >.>
You need to install GAPPS, once you install a ROM.
I would highly recommend CM. The builds Jaybob has put together are based on CM code, take the latest (12/08) - it's stable. BTW, it's a mediafire link, so you should be good. I just downloaded the latest, y'day... works like a charm... (Thanks JayBob and Cm and everyone - can't say that enough).
The best way to install rom is:
1. Download copy ROM and gapps to your SDcard's root
2. Reboot into recovery
3. Wipe everything - Wipe/Factory reset, Wipe cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache
4. Install ROM from zip
5. Install Gapps from zip
6. Reboot - btw, the first reboot after a rom/gapps install takes a while, so don't be alarmed.
You can PM me, if needed.
I installed that last Rom via Rom Manager, which did it pretty much automatically.. so I didn't try to install a Rom via the SD card yet.
To make things worse, the phone does not recognized it's connected to a computer at all (there is no USB icon on my phone's notification bar) so I can restore it being to old sprint crap. No Market app, no way of installing anything or communicating with the phone, my backup, when I restore it, brings back the old HTC but without the market app and as I said, no USB support.
heeeeeelllllllllppppppppppppp
Ok,
I managed to restore things back to the old Sprint RUU. I noticed the SD card was *completely* out of room, which might have messed up my backups. I still don't know where these backups reside or how much room do they take, but making sure you have enough room on the SD card is important, as I think I have learned the hard way.
Important: the RUU detected my phone and installed *even without* the usb icon or my computer treating my phone as a "usb storage device". So resorting to this option, even though annoying (have to install and gain root access all over again), is helpful to have.
Now I am going to format my SD card, which doesn't have any important information, I don't think (my documents are all backed up anywhere and try and install the CM rom from a zip file, which I'm not sure how to do yet (people like me are used to have something like setup.exe, and everything works from there...) so I'm going to read and go step by step.
ROM installation is pretty simple, once you get your recovery going... just make sure you wipe everything, as I mentioned earlier to you...

Did you reboot with the phone connected by USB, by any chance?

Had it not been for reading this again, I would have been waiting for a reply. This was awesome and now I am back to business. Thanks a ton for this. i now have what i need to do this on my wife's Hero. Thanks again
So I just installed cm_encore_full-173.zip which was brutal... Took me like 5 hours to figure out how to get rid of errors. But now its working. So thats good.
How do I get a status bar at the top that has running Apps, battery icon, etc? I have one on my phone but the ROM does not have one. i really want that back.
Also I am not loving softkey... Is there anything better?

Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Tablet Tweaks>bottom status bar
as far as the soft buttons you can try a theme, TransformerBread and HoneyBread have gotten the Tablet Tweaked treatment and if you look in the Android Themes section you'll be able to find more
I'm on the latest nightly and I have a status bar with softkeys...
Make sure you wipe data, cache, and dalvik when flashing!
Great. As soon as I hit the "CyanogenMod settings" button I gt that error again and it closes out. This whole thing is screwed up. And no one will tell me how to wipe this and try a different ROM...
I have tried everything and I cant get this one off.

Open the rom manager in your app drawer and make sure you have the latest clockwork recovery installed, if you don't, flash it. Then go to download ROM and download the latest Nightly and check gapps in the pop up window, once its downloading another popup window will come up, check the wipe data and wipe cache and the wipe dalvik cache and hit ok. make sure you don't have a bootable SD card inserted into your Nook during this process.
That should fix all your issues.
I did all that but then it just says "your download has started you can view the progress in the notification area" Where is that? How long does it take
its been like 15 mins. How do I know when its done and how do I kick off the install?

It should be done downloading... Pull up the notification bar and hit on the clockwork recovery icon in there. If you don't have the statusbar, press and hold the power button>reboot>reboot recovery
while in recovery go to mounts and storage, format the system, data and cache, hit the power button to go back to the main menu and choose install zip from sd card>choose zip from sdcard>clockworkmod>download>download.cyanogenmod.com>get> then choose your nightly to flash it then choose install zip from sd card>choose zip from sdcard>clockworkmod>download>goo-inside.me>gapps> and flash gapps
once you've done that restart and everything should be good...
Your initial rom may have become corrupted while downloading. The softkeys should be there by default.
I had the same issues. The only way I could get the errors to go away and the status bar to appear was to flash clockwork recovery from ROM Manager and then download and flash the rom from there.
Ok I'm really close. Its WAY better, I actually the the logo run at the begining. Its fast, i can install thing, no errors.
But Facebook did not install, it said "File Not Found" and when I search for Facebook in the Market there is no Install button. But I was able to install Kindel just fine. So there is one last weird thing with facebook.

There is an issue with the market right now where you cant install some apps. There is a work around though, you'll need to edit your build.prop and change your dpi from 161 to 160 and make these changes
ro.product.model=SCH-I500
ro.product.brand=verizon
ro.product.name=SCH-I500
ro.product.device=SCH-I500
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
reboot, goto setting>manage applications>all>market>clear data
and you'll be good to go for awhile, every once and a while you'll have to clear the data for the market.
there is a thread on it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218974
How do I edit build.prop?
This should go in the general forum, not development.
