Stock kernel doesn't support overclock . You have to insert a custom one to get access to oc.
Bty, wrong section maybe

First this is the development section, please post questions in the Q&A section.
I do not believe there is any app that will do the overclocking if you do not want to flash anything. The overclock option has to be enabled in the kernel and stock kernel does not have that option.

using the PilotX 4.0 rom with speedmod hardcore 13E kernel

Pilot x rom?
Speedmod does not let you oc/uv. You would need to flash a new kernel that allows overclocking, and then download Voltage control to enable / control it.
Btw, if you are on a rom / kernel that is other than stock, you have already flashed... So why do you not want to flash again?

You could try this, no need to flash anything
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060010

by mean "flashing" i meant other rom to enable the OC feature.
what about the exect values to 1.2ghz?

Onix 2.0.5 is good. Try that, install it via CWM.
Anyway,
Ask the dev to post the ROM over at the development section. ;D

Yes it converts data to ext4
CF-Root 3.2 I think is more stable and faster
Cf-3.2 is very fast and very stable. Not s single fc since installed! cwm +tweaks + ext 4. Quadrant 2100+

Voodoo over CF-Root
Can I install voodoo kernel (XXJVP) after my phone (SGS) was CF-rooted (v3.7)? Can I solve this without factory reset? I had backed up and restored all of my data before, but I'd like to try out voodoo kernel with ext4 filesystem convert, without dataloss.
It would be important, so somebody please help me!
Thx,

I think you should flash the stock JVH first.
Using JVP (2.3.4) I had bluetooth issue with CF-Root, none so far with SpeedMod.
GPS was also not so goot with CF-Root, I'm gonna see tonight with SpeedMod
Has anyone done a quantitative comparison of battery life with different kernels?
I think every kernel has his own good and bad parameters so the difference between kernels depends of what apps do u use and what do u want from kernel...
So for someone it is Voodoo! For another one it's CF-Root and so on !!!

Just give both a try

I tries, but I dont see differences, it is why I'm asking you
What the differences between them?
I'm using Platypus' kernel - works great. When I tried to overclock @1,6GHz with the Glitch kernel, my phone freezes. With the Platypus kernel, I have no problems at this frequenzy, but just try both.
Be sure to have the kernel cleaning script and the voltage scheduler (if you use Voltage Control to oc/uv) on your sdcard, it can save your phone's life.

OK, so yesterday I installed Darks 10.2.2 on my SGS, but I have a few noob-ish questions as this is the FIRST time I've ever flashed a ROM..
1) whats better, 10.2 or 10.2.2?
2) why has some of my data from int. SD been left over?
3) Why Can't I overclock with DarkCore 2.9.3 Kernel? Do I need a different one? If so whats a really good and fast one?
Thanks.

Overclock

Hi ,
I have a few begineers questions , I have a galaxy s that is running gingerbread 2.3.6 , is rooted and had a voodoo kernel (with recovery option) . I was thinking of possibilities of overclocking , can that be done with the setup I have ?
thanks in advance
You can easily overclock your phone with a root access with an application like this :
bit.ly/fnUFCD
There are lots of applications existing.
You can see on your kernel thread on this board what frequency is supported.
try Tegrak overclock or NSTools. Find other apps on Market.

thanks for the info guys , installed busybox and android overclock , but appears the kernel is not able to be overclocked as I got a message and the max frequency showing is 1000 mhz , would anyone be able to recommend a kernel that would suit - would like to keep things preety simple and straightforward at the mo
cheers

thanks again , my phone is showing jvz suffix at end of kernel - show the semaphore jvz is the way to go ?

Semaphore kernel can work on all gingerbread roms. So it is safe to flash semaphore 2.5 on your phone.

Will overclocking the phone significantly reduce battery life? Or cause any degradation of the phone due to excess heat?

Battery use will obviously be higher with the processor on more clock speed but there's no problem with the temperature. Remember, always overclock in minor steps, check stability and in this way you would get a stable phone

how to overclock the Cappy

our cappy is fast as it is on 4.2 but i have yet to overclock a phone yet and i hear its not like taking the risk of OC your computer so i would like to try it out on the cappy first. so i have googled this already and it comes up with somone already OC it to 1.2 ghz which i would be fine with but in order to OC you need to flash a kernal i think it said? i am not fimilular with kernals with all of the phones i have messed with i have yet to touch kernals, the only time i have flashed a kernal (had a interesting custom recovery) was to root my cappy to put CM on it and got CWM after. i dont see the points of them other than more customization which im not interested in, so how would i go about doing this can someone help me out please?

You do indeed need a custom kernel that allows it. Flashing them is fairly simple, you just need a Odin flashable version if you don't wanna go the custom ROM way.
Make sure that your kernel is made for the current version your phone is running and that it's for the I897! As per your signature, Corn kernel would be your best option as it is for GB.

as of last night i flashed Cyangenmod to get CWM and then flashed paranoid android 3.99, mines a I896 btw i think since i got a bootloop its on At&t/firmware. (only useing on wifi for now) i had corn kernel before to get a recovery and root but if i want to OC it would i have to get corn kernel again? it was a pretty slow boot up every time i turned it on with the stock rom.
No you don't have nor want to. Corn is for GB, if you flashed CM, you're probably on JB.
You'll just have to flash a JB kernel that allows OC (like devil).

Buddy, read carefully what kernels are compatible with what ROMs and what Android versions.
The information you need is already available here on XDA in Captivate Android Development section.

so i was looking through some of my stuff on my cappy (cyangenmod 10.1.3 on it) and i looked at the performance option and it has the option to overclock it to 1.2 GHz, would i have to flash a special kernel? or am i fine like this?
Default CM kernel supports 1.2GHz step overclock, just set it and test for stability issues. Nothing else is needed.

first of all the t211 is a tablet not a phone . you have a dual core clocked at 1.2ghz im sure thats pretty fast i think its because you have too many apps. if you still want to overclock ask at the q&a section of its offical forums here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3 . cyanogenmod sometimes have the option to overclock their devices, i would check that out as well

OC is a kernel option so simply flash a kernel that allows it. That being said, you're not on the right sub-forum like Trozzul mentioned. Be sure to flash one for your tablet. OC has its disadvantages so make sure you read about it before going through with it.
