Mkv videos - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I cant find this anywhere. I downloaded a complete tv series in mkv format. On the pc its good quality. But on my tab im using arcsoft media player, and the video is a little choppy and pixilated. Any suggestions to get better quality?

Try moboplayer. Its awesome and free as well. Its in the market.

The native player is working good with mkv if it doesn't have dts audio. No need for third party player.

Video playback with subsonic.

Subsonic streams audio and video, using ffmpeg to covert video to flv and audio to mp3.
With flash support released yesterday I've been using subsonic to play both SD and HD movies on my xoom. The HD quality is obviously not as good as converting the video and playing with the native app, but it's still pretty good. If you are lazy like me and don't want to convert, it's perfect.
Visit subsonic.org to download the software that runs on your PC (or if you have a readynas there is an addon!). The software is free, but you need to donate any amount for the video streaming. Then grab the free app on the market and you're set!
*yay*

Subsonic kicks ass. It's definitely worth the donation if you get it set up properly.
for music subsinic is awesome. But for video I hate not being able to fast forward easily. Only gripe but still a fantastiv app!
you can fast forward by selecting which minute to start playback at... not perfect but works very well
Any way to play a video in a player and not a browser?

[Q] Best video player for OB?

I was trying to play MKV files on my OB but it seems that the original Video Player doesn't support it. So I downloaded the MoboPlayer on the Market to play it(since it can play almost all codecs), but it lags for a while, or the audio doesn't sync with the video for a delay of 3 seconds. The quality is definitely good but is there a better Video Player out there? What are you guys using to play videos of other codecs??
try MX Player

I know, i was just saying 1080 is just wasting your card space.

Been using Rockplayer for a while its pretty solid.
but none can play 720p X264 smooth. i've got the best results with mx player but still not very good. i don't think the hardware is good enough.
try diceplayer.
My Optimus Black(Korean version KU-9500) can play some of 720p H.264 MKV files.
I watched some 720p H.264 MKV files using QQPlayer, everything worked fine, no desync, subtitles were on spot.
H.264 suport only to 480p....720p is lagy..not enough GPU power.

This player is sucks...i repeat the optimal player for OB is "daroon playe"
I use Moboplayer. How is Daroon better?
Nuno
i prefer moboplayer
Tested QQplayer, Daroon Player and MoboPlayer to play a 720p MKV file. Moboplayer produced the best results in terms of Audio and Video Sync.
MoboPlayer is the best for my OB!
I just bought VPlayer through Market...seems to be the ranked 1st video player on the market...should be pretty good!

MKV are slow and laggy

I was extremely surprised that MKV do not work on the HTC Raider. My old SGS could do it I wonder why HTC did not make codecs for it.
I tried MX player and it loads both subtitles and video but is so laggy and slow since it software decode.
I tried to get the arm7 codecs but they did not work. Anyone know more on how to get MKV on the Raider?
Dice Player.

thank i will try it.
Convert them with handbrake to mp4, pay for the pro version of mx player and use it to play the files.

Too much unnecessary converting, mkvs can play, and you just need to search for the one you like best from the market.

I bought streamers specifically with MKV support so i don't have to convert otherwise I would have just used Handbreak and used my Xbox/PS3. When i had the the SGS i never had issues since it natively supports MKV, to bad HTC does not include this. I never want to convert formats ever again.
Funny thing is the few anime episodes i tried where high bit encodings, tried some regular 720P and it played it just fine.
Mxvideo player works with subs when i watch bleach anime (720p mkv format)
Yeah MX is very good, I have some anime that is very laggy. I guess it varies from encoder to encoder.
Dice player is not polished and i hate the ads, plus it still lagged when playing that MKV.
After trying about 10 players with the same laggy MKV. The 2 best players I find are:
MX Video Player by MX TECHNOLOGIES
MoboPlayer by Mobo Team
The troublesome MKV lagged badly with MX but played perfectly with Mobo.
Bsplayer is the best I've found so far.plays 720 visa no prob
Sent from my HTC-X710a using xda premium
I am trying to use BSPlayer (latest) on a HTC Vivid with 720p MKV streaming from my NAS, it's not even watchable. Yet on my SGS3 plays no problem. Same player, same MKV file, same NAS.

[Q] Which video conversion app do you use for Note?

Hey guys,
Recently got a note but cannot find a decent video conversion app. What is the size I should convert the video files into? any reccomendations for mac/windows?
Cheers!
Don't have any answer for the question but with mx video player, you won't need to convert probably.
Just use Handbrake which converts to MP4 - you can change the settings to get better quality or smaller file. I've been using this program for all of my phones...perfect so far!!
To play on the Note, MX Videoplayer is your friend!
Unless the file size is larger than 3.9Gb I dont convert it anymore, I use Handbreak to convert it to 3.9Gb but for HD movie sources that are 15-20GB I split convert them into 3x 3.9Gb files to preserve the quality and just delete it after viewing.
For info, here is the link : http://handbrake.fr/
Thanks, I know of handbrake and will try it. Will give MX a go too without converting. Thank you all.
If you're quite technical and/or somewhat of a videophile (as I am!) then I'd recommend giving Mediacoder a try too.
Mediacoder lets your configure a lot more options than Handbrake, but it has a terrible GUI so is a lot more difficult to use.
Moboplayer plays everything. No need to convert.

+1 for moboplayer. Never converted anything

Mxvideo player is the best and if you have big files just use mkvtoolnix (PC app), no reencoding, just split the file in 2 or more mkvs (under 4GB) !
BS player
Plays everything and smoother than MX with my HTC HD2 ICS

Hey off topic, but dont use mobo
It has got a adware
Use MX instead
Its really cool

Its gonna be the same with the avi and mkv files as well if they are encoded with ac3 codec.
I asked htc they will consider putting this into the future upgrades...
Till then use mxplayer and set the decoder to hw or hw+
