[Q] Cant add, view or edit "Phone Contacts", only "Google Contacts"
This is really weird, I've had the phone about a year now but just today I decided to add a custom ringtone to one of my contacts, which even though I'd done it before, I couldnt find any way to do it again for another contact. All my contacts are google contacts synced with my gmail. So I went to display options to see if the phone contacts were being hidden but there isn't even an option to view them, only my google contacts. Tried to add a New Contact but there isn't even an option any more to save as phone contact instead of google.
Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

Click to collapse
First:
You need to make sure you enter a new contact by saving to Google.
Contacts that are on your "phone" will not transfer to Google automatically.
You can change your default save location by:
Open contacts
Press menu touch key (key on left side of your phone)
Press MORE
Press SETTINGS
Change: Save new Contacts from: Always Ask to GOOGLE
In Google it saves your contacts under the "My Contacts" tag.
Let me know if you need any other help with this.
p.s.:
If you want your contacts on Google and your phone, the easiest way is to enter them through gmail then let sync push them to your phone. Your phone (should) join the duplicates since they will have the same names and telephone #.
Hi,
I'm having this weird thing: I just upgraded my SGS to froyo 2.2 , but i forgot to backup my contacts list. So, when i looked on my contacts list and it was empty and i had no one to blame but me...
However, after a while i noticed that most of my contact list is somewhere in my phonebook - i can see someone's details by typing his phone number. I can view his name and even his gmail account by clicking on the "add to contacts" option (that appears after you type numbers) but i can't see him in the contacts folder.
Maybe it basic and i'm missing something - i don't know, but it's really irritating...
I've tried everything i can think of: Some of that was to sync my gmail account (and facebook). I imprted every phone number from SD and SIM: But i still can't see my contacts numbers via "contacts" (only via "phone" by typing the phone numbers)
Anyone has an idea what is wrong? Or how to add the data that is out there in "phone" to "contacts"?
Thanks
I've flashed my phone half a dozen times and it has really messed up my contacts. Contacts were randomly linked together that were suppose to. Good thing I can restore back to previous contacts from the website. However, I still have some contacts were are no longer there, it seems like they moved to the "Not assigned" group on my phone. I have 800 of those.
Is there anyway to move those contacts back and merge them with my Google contact group?
Just change Display Options
I would suggest going to the "Contacts" page in your Phonebook app, clicking "More", then clicking "Display Options." In my case, those "Not Assigned" contacts were actually just sync'ed with my phone as "All other contacts." This display option is not selected by default -- hence why these "Not assigned" contacts are not showing up in the phonebook. HTH!
Hi all,
I was wondering if there was anyway to solve the following problem:
The contacts on my phone are synced with my Gmail contacts, I have a group called "Phone" in which all my contacts are stored.
On my phone, I have deselected everything except for the subgroup "Phone" which I created.
If I add a new contact on my phone, I can select that I want to save it to my google account, however one cannot select a subgroup.
So, I think it saves it by default to "Other contacts". The naturally it does not appear in my contacts list on my phone unless I select to sync that group as well.
Is there a way to change the default saving directory on the phone, or should I just move all my contacts to "Other contacts"?
Using Zues V3N, but this problem has been on the stock ROMs as well.
Thanks for any help.
Nevermind. Found the groups option when adding a new contact...
Didn't notice that before....
Someone is more than welcome to delete this thread if it is not useful at all
Perhaps I'll be able to sort this one out with the group's help.
How to merge/clean/eliminate duplicate contacts under "Phone Contacts" group? Some of the contacts seems to have up to 8 entries or at least it shows 8 times. And they all have the exact information.
If I try to link them, it says "Couldn't Link Contact". Not sure what is going on here.
And to clarify, I use "Phone Contacts" & "Exchange Contacts" only. No Google nor SIM contacts. I've disabled my Exchange account trying to figure this one out, since the Exchange account it is clean and concise.
Any help would be very appreciated!
Thank you!
Okay, upon further research it seems like the best way to go is to have Google Contacts & Exchange Contacts and to drop local Phone Contacts. So I have exported Phone Contacts into vcf file and imported back into my Google account - ironically there were never any duplicates, as I suspected despite the phone showing repeated entries. but this puzzle is beyond my level.
In any case, now I need to globally delete all 850 contact entries I have under "Phone Contacts". I can't seem to find a "Delete All" or "Select All" option to delete local contacts saved on the phone.
Am I missing something here?
TIA!
This keeps on getting better!
Tried following multiple Android forums about simply deleting "Contact" app cache & memory to realize they were referring to "Contacts Storage" app and not the "Contacts" app. Apparently this Sony only gives us access to the Contact app with the Contact Storage app not being visible.
Really? Do I need to wipe the entire phone to simply erase contacts saved on the phone? Even my freakin old Symbian phone had the option to select all contacts...
I also tried in vain to install the useless Sony Companion software but of course, no access to any contacts thru that.
Arghhhh!!!
