Do not install a lot of apps before you understand what you install...

[Q] Best option?

Hello to anyone reading this your time is greatly appreciated.
I have been trolling forums for a couple of days now and am not sure which process may help me out of my situation the best. I am new to android and recently used a one click Samsung s program to root my phone. It worked fine until after I uninstalled some stock apps and ran a cleaning app. I began getting the Sorry! The application settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly when I would try to change the voice ringtone and many apps followed suit when I would try to use them.
I came to the conclusion that a factory reset may solve my problem. It only made it worse. I can no longer download apps; kies, media player and my pc do not recognize the phone, kies won't update, the android market has a different theme, and most things I try to do on the phone I get the Sorry! message.
I did not flash my ROM because I did not learn about it until after the restore.
My question is what has the highest probability of making my phone work properly again, flashing the ROM (I have been looking at a Darky's custom ROM), downloading an newer firmware version ( I currently have 2.2 FROYO), or is there another way to fix the issues that I just have not come across yet?
I appreciate any pointers or advice and once again thank you for taking the time to review this post.
I would have to say your best option right now is to switch over to CyanogenMod 7.
Since you are still on froyo the installation is dead simple now thanks to codeworkx's efforts and atinm's nightly updates are knocking off the last few open issues like 9 pins. Plus great kernel makers and an experienced user base means that the community is active and high spirited.
Come to the CM7 thread in the dev forum, read the first post and the troubleshooting post (also on the first page) to get all the instructions and to see a video that makes very clear why cm7 is the gold standard of android ROMs.

How to unroot my galaxy tab P1000?

Hi,
i got a P1000 galaxy tab 7 and found out that it was rooted and had a non stock rom installed, i asked the seller and he said it was rooted through ODIN, i used ODIN 1.7 to install a europian rom, and all what i need now is to un-root the device,, how can i unroot the device?
thanks in advance!
Why would you do that? Now you can use Titanium backup which is a very handy tool. If i need to unroot my tab i use oneclickroot. You can use oneclickroot for rooting and unrooting your tab. Look on the shortfuse.org site for download. And dont forget to donate if the script worked for you.

Random reboots

Hi guys
A friend of mine has a problem: his Galaxy keeps restarting randomly for no reason, many times in a day while using it.
What is weird: the phone hasn't ever been rooted/flashed with a custom rom, neither updated, always been 100% original. Just a normal usage!
I'm not much into this phone, so i don't know if it's a known issue or what.. but it sounds strange to me, possible hardware problem? Needs to be flashed or rooted? Other?
I've already done a factory reset and now i took off the sd-card to see if it could be it, but i'd appreciate some advices!
Thanks
Try updating it with kies, might help but can't guarantee
if random reboots happens while using too much mobile resources then its normal for galaxy mini like phone
Random Reboots might be device specific or not , It depends.
But you may want to visit the samsung care center in your vicinity area just to be sure about the latter .
Else just flash a new stock Rom via ODIN (not that it would leave your device impure as rooting does ).

Is Froyo the last "official" release or was a Gingerbread leaked/official firmware released? I'll probably try flashing something, don't know yet if a custom rom could solve the problem but still it's a possibility

With mobile resources you mean 3G/wifi or RAM? By the way in both the cases i don't think it's the problem, since there aren't many apps in background and the only one using internet connection is whatsapp!
Thanks for the replies :good:

The last official android update for for sgm was gingerbread based api.
Try flashing the stock gingerbread on the device via odin (google it if you don't know how to.) and then try custom roms.
Also the thing about resources, you already know about our sgm aka lil'g . Its not that powerful as most quad core latest devices boosted by plenty much RAM. So multitask on it wisely.

I'll try with gingerbread when i see my friend, thanks! I own a i9000 and flashed pretty much so i know odin and similar stuff, no problem
And yes i tried the mini many times, doesn't have a bunch of ram but still i think it can't be a ram-lack problem since it did the same also after the factory reset, with few apps installed!
Thanks again for the help :good:
Oh, was forgetting: how does the cyano run on the mini? Smooth? Battery killer or ok for everyday use?
Try cm7 by mebitek. Despite its source code is old and official cm7 is way more ahead of it, the mebitek's cm7 relays on battery & performance like a pro..
by resources I mean more ram and CPU usage
background apps ( they don't play big role as they get closed automatically)
running big games (HD one)
etc.
if you have many apps, cut the .android_secure folder and paste it on your computer.. i had this problem with the stock GB 2.3.6.. reboots reboots and reboots!! i pasted the folder in my comp, delete unnecessarily used apps and VOILA! it was running smooth again.. but now i'm using cm7..
I updated to official gingerbread release, then after putting all the (few) apps into phone storage i removed every android-secure file!
I'll see how it goes with this, if the problem remains i'll try a cyano or go directly to the service center
Thanks again for the tips!

[Q] Baked Black Bean 9 ROM

Hey guys and gals,
First off, I want to thank all the devs for their hard work on creating these roms and kernels for such a great phone. I rooted my phone a little less than a year ago following a guide by jocala, and using RebelRom. From my understanding, the phone is still rooted. I have done nothing to change that so I hope it remained rooted.
My question today is in regards to the Baked Black Bean 9 release. Does it follow the same installation as other roms? Such that download the rom, move it to the sdcard, boot into the recovery mode, wipe it all, flash the room then gapps? If so, that is fine, I will just have to reread on how to do all that to the T so the phone does not get bricked, lol. If it is different, can anyone please explain?
My current phone state is :
Model Number: SGH-T679
Android Version: 2.3.6
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-custom [email protected] #7
Build Number: RebelRom 3.0.7 Milestone 2.A
Also, is swype supported by this ROM ? I loved swype but couldn't seem to get it to work with RebelRom.
Thanks in advance for your help with this!

Yes Baked is installed like the others. Nandroid your setup however in case you don't like how things turn out. Wipe everything, flash the ROM and then Gapps. Please keep in mind the latest Baked is funny on first boot. You have to let it sit for around 5 minutes or so. Press the power key once (screen will be black) and then it will reboot in a bit. Everything is easy breezy Japanesey after that.
On Swype I can't tell you, I use Swiftkey.
THANK YOU. Finally something new and it comes preinstalled with a swype or something of that sort. Now I need to figure out how block the used dial attacks said in the wiki. It seems I'm still on uvl1. Nonetheless this forum is fantastic and the people are tremendously helpful. Also I flashed black Bean first top give it a go.
Any other amazing apps to try out?

Well I hate to tell you this but the only way to get the latest baseband is to flash Peach or the latest stock ROM, then revert back to Baked. What I did was nandroid, flash Peach, then restore the nandroid. Do NOT sign in to Google when/if you flash Peach or stock. Otherwise you will lose sync with Google Play which is a mess to re-sync. Just reboot recovery immediately after install.
On apps, there's a lot of good ones but depends on what you're looking for. For basics go with Boat Browser mini for web browsing and Poweramp for music. Use Seeder for a little less lag (Google "entropy" to learn more). And yes, I would pay the $5 for Poweramp especially if you're a music lover. Very worth it. The Google music app is awful IMO. Also make sure you have Google Maps installed so Google Now works properly.
Hope that helps you get started.

Ok! The next step!

I started with a stock Froyo ROM. The only tool that I could get to work for Froyo was "blackjack".
This link helped me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487105
Look for "ROOT ON Froyo (2.2.x, v10x)".
Once you root your phone (superuser will be installed) , install CWM's ROM Manager. From there it's Happy Hacking.
A note (or two):
You're going to have to make a decision about what you want to do concerning stability. Froyo and GingerBread-based ROMs are "solid"; they are usable as "daily-drivers", i.e., you can use them on a daily basis without fear of significant hiccups, freezes, and crashes.
ICS (4.0.4) and greater based-ROMs (including the factory ICS) can be problematic, with freezes, lock-ups, features not working, etc. Some folks are using KitKat-based ROMs as daily-drivers; good for them. They have more patience than I do.
My recommendation for a stable ROM is either Marvel 9 or Zeus 6.4; both are GB-based. Zeus 7.06 was absolute headache for my phone.
If you want to go all-out, try Evisceration's KitKat ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2610681
He's one of the few developers still working on this old phone.

When you loaded the ROM and went to install, did it take you to the superuser screen?
Try updating superuser from the Play Store. The version might be old.
