Power down reboot options - Nook Color General

I have noticed when powering down a box with options. I just use the reboot option. When should the recovery option be used. If you used that option what does it do? Will it fix a troublesome app?

The recovery option have nothing to do with apps. It's for booting into clockwork recovery.

It never seems to work for me to be honest with you.

the reboot to recovery from power button does'nt work (at least for me on CM7.02)... to reboot to recovery use ROM Manager (after you have installed last CWM)...

Which one is the "ENTER OK" Key ?

im trying to wipe my captivate at the moment, booted into the clockwork 3e recovery mode.
vol up down chooses the menu but what button to "Enter" ? Power does not work, thanks

how do i get out of this ? Vol up down buttons work, but no enter button ... home etc... nothing happens.
It's one of the bottom four keys... menu or back
-edit-
Oh, I see the other keys don't work.
When I saw something similar, one of those keys worked for "enter". If no keys work for enter, these are the options I know of:
- Hold up+power to reset
- Hold up+down+power to reset in to recovery
- Hold down+power to reset in to download mode (where you can flash back to stock with odin)
- Pull battery
worked, thanks.
how do i come into the green recovery mode ?

To get to the green recovery mode, make sure you have the install.zip file in the internal sd. Then in regular recovery, click reinstall packages. You may need to press it twice.
If you don't have the install.zip file, boot your phone, download ROM Manager from the market and select the option, Flash ClockWork Recovery.
Once this is installed, each time you go to recovery, it takes you to clockwork recovery mode automatically

update.zip
not
install.zip
and it needs to be the update.zip from CWM/ROM Manager, not any old update.zip

[Q] Trouble w/ Gapps and recovery mode for Cyanogen 7.1

I installed Cyanogen 7.1 following these steps and selected the option to download Gapps:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Captivate:_Full_Update_Guide
I used the ROM Manager method. Everything worked fine until Step 7: "The Samsung Captivate will now reboot into the recovery, wipe data and cache, and then install CyanogenMod. When it's finished installing it will reboot into CyanogenMod."
The phone did reboot into recovery mode but I had to navigate to the .zip file for the install. Cyanogen is now up and running. However, since I manually selected the file, the gapps zip file was not installed along with it. I know where the file is at, but the three button combo to get into recovery mode does not work.
Any suggestions?
long press power button, reboot, recovery, ok?
without working 3 button, you are playing with fate.
buy/make yourself a jig....sounds like you are going to need it one day.
Or go into rom manager and select reboot into recovery.

Yeah, the jig is the plan. I'm not sure why it's not working. It should work in Cyanogen 7 right?
And thanks for the "long press power, reboot to recovery". I didn't know that was an option on Cyanogen.
Now I was able to install the gapps zip and restarted the phone. The apps started installing on reboot but now the main screen says "Problem Loading Widget". Any ideas how to correct this?

Installing custom rom, on galaxy s gt-i9000, with a busted power button

Hi there i am relatively new to android modding and rooting etc. I recently tried to install Cyanogenmod to my phone and I succeeded, but the next day my phone began to restart itself, turns out that the power button is broken. We tried to repair it but ended up burning down the processors internal i/o (latch or whatever structure it has) with a faulty multimeter . Now i have to turn on my phone with a dock cable (with 1kohm res) which wakes up the phone, i can access the Download mode by plugging in the dock, and pressing home+down, but the recovery needs the power button signal too.
I can access the recovery by using adb commands, but i need to boot in. If i install a new recovery like CWM, i am stuck in a bootloop and i don't know if i can use the adb commands. Is there any other way to get into recovery mode, besides home+power+up, or adb commands?
Can i install CM onto the phone under these circumstances?
Thanks for any help given!
Not sure how you are going to select options in recovery as you need the power button unless you have Touch Recovery or TWRP recovery. Anyway use this app to boot to recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423071

Well if i install a new recovery mod like clockworkmod then i'll be in one. That is why it is necessary to reboot in it so i can install the ROM.
Rather get your power button replaced.

[Q] Broken Fastboot Menu

I rooted my phone yesterday, it will load the fastboot menu but if i select any option(like recovery or normal boot) the phone will simply power off, does anyone have any idea whats going on? other than that the phone is fine. Because of this I can't boot into recovery.
PS. i rebooted once and found the CFQtest app in the app drawer after a failed attempt to reboot into recovery via the fastboot menu, however in panic I didn't let it complete the test and switched off the phone.

(Vol - for scrolling and for selecting vol +)
Thank you, Solved.

yes, vol- for scroll and vol+ for selecting, that's what I did but turns out that the problem was with the improperly unlocked bootloader. I had unlocked the bootloader via the autoroot for windows and I remember an error screen appearing once. So i relocked and manually unlocked the bootloader. its all working fine now.
