i encountered a problem that my phone always have low ram even if i just started the phone and have not open any apps. the ram always used up above 200mb out of 304mb. and y is it the overall ram is 304mb instead of 512mb which is stated in the specs of sgs

You need to have a look at applications and services.
Check what you running (for example livewallpaper is between 11-20MB, every widget using memory as well) it is the same with services, some of them are useless some of them are not.
From my experience 2.3.3 (without any super modding) using something like 100-120MB. I can tell you that with 3 email accounts (including exchange) and some widget my SGS have free 146MB.
Is hard to say what is causing lack of memory on your phone without knowing what is on it.

I usually find that lack of ram is from apps running in the background.
I'd suggest getting TaskKiller or ZDBox to kill apps running in the background easily.
Aparently don't quote me I only ready this that the ram is on a flush when needed system I thought ram useage was high try playing game or browse net then kill them and check I found it dropped on jvk jva and now jvh not used jvb gave it a miss

Hello all
i am kinda new to android
so i installed a task manager which shows me my current amount of RAM
and i found that only 50-70 MB of ram is available with me always
and also when ever i try to play NFS shift on mobile it gives error of less memory
so is there any fix available
also is it normal for everyone ???

It doesnt seem normal for me. Mine is usually in the range of 150 MB to 200 MB depending on the tasks in the background. I use my i9000 for development and dont play games too often (except on my smoke breaks.... )
There are no "fixes" per se. You might however consider using "ATK" (Advanced Task Killer) or "Task Panel X". According to my observation as you keep using the phone for a prolonged period, services and apps will keep getting consuming resources even if you apparently think you had closed them. Its really an honest mistake pressing the "home" key to "close" applications, but I do it all the time too....
You could use ATK to close apps other than those in the "ignore mode" (a feature of ATK) after a specified duration. Does wonders to my RAM

When i turn on my phone i have 170 MB available memory but after a while down to 70 MB sometimes to 40 MB, what should i install to have more than 100 MB free?? i already have [email protected] 256Hz #97 Kernel and 2.2.1 XXJPY firmware.

Usually this won't matter because with the Android OS, it will usually keep all the stuff you close (internet, contacts, recently accessed menus etc) cached in it's RAM as a non active application until you happen to tab into it again, thus instantly loading.
Android is also smart enough to know since the application is inactive, if it's eating your memory, it will force-close these applications to free up memory for the new applications. ie, I'm running internet, close it, and my memory is up to 280mb, then try to run AngryBirds and it will close the Internet app + others if it has to.
So... usually not an issue, but if it does become an issue you can run a service/task killer app that will handle all nonactive apps and terminate them. Or you can just clear level 1+2 ram periodically and it will reset it back to default until it starts filling with crap again.
Ok i have advanced task killer but i was reading in some topics in this forum that some guys have more than 150 MB free without using a task killer
Advanced task killer eats your battery
android doesn't need a task killer, as it kills tasks itself.. i don't know why there are so many out there they just eat up battery..
one app I would suggest is 'auto-killer' its free and I have mine set to aggressive. that's all you need to do then forget about it.. it keeps your memory from getting bogged down.

i've started to noticed that my Tab P1000 is lagging quite badly. Open and closing of any apps takes about 1 second or so. i'm not sure what's wrong and don't know when it started. i then explore into memory usage and memory booster app is telling me that free memory is only about 34%. The number of tasks running in the background is also quite huge (24 at a time).
Is the memory usage normal? i've tried to delete any un-used apps but it doesn't seem to help. Are there any ways i can improve the memory and the overall performance?
i'm running custom rom (overcome) kernal 2.6.35.7 overcome v3.3.1.
Any advice will be appreciated.
I had this, I cleared all of the app cache files and seems a lot better now.

you can try to wipe app cache, then use autoruns to disable all rubbish. and use overclock
I use taskxp from market, not just because its a task killer, but because it allows you to switch easily between open tasks, very helpful if you are running more tasks than holding home key menu will show (which is only 8 last accessed tasks)... anyway as a task killer it is very stable and customizable, I never have a lag or a unwanted task running in background (most games I notice will run in background even when you don't open them and I just kill them and free up my memory

Hey there, this problem might have been discussed before but I wasn't able to find it, so the problem is with ram usasage, I once went to the apps in settings and on the running apps I always see 250mb+ ram used by something, then I killed all the apps, but that just made a dliference of 50mb ram, It's real anoying because when I want to switch between apps it's slow and when I turn a browser back on after using aother app the page realoads which I guess wpuldn't happen with 300 mb ram, does anyone know the reason for this, I am currently running cm10.1.

Free RAM is useless. It just sits there sucking up power and being available in case you need it. It's pretty much a waste to have 300 MB of RAM and then only use 100 MB. Instead you should try to keep your RAM full at all times with the things you are likely to need in the near future. For example, if your phone is currently only using 20% of your RAM but already caches the browser in case you'll use it soon it will be faster to load the browser. If you decide to use the music player on the other hand the cached browser can be overwritten with the music player without requiring any additional time, so no harm is done.
Modern systems don't have "free" and "in use" RAM, they have "free" (wasted space), "in use" and "cached". You shouldn't look at the amount of free RAM but rather the amount of actually used RAM is a better indicator.
The reason you only gain 50 MB when you kill all apps is because only 50 MB will be actually in use by apps and all remaining unused space is used for caching things. If your phone is slow, this is not the cause of it. You may just have a slow phone or the ROM might be slow for some (other) reason.

yeah only 50mb is used to keep the apps running, but it probably takes up a whole lot more when using the apps, and this is a problem for me that it is slow to change between apps, and when I do change between the for example if I wanna text some one back while using a browser, once i turn the browser back on it restarts the page, and that didn't happen in my zte blade, unless I had some more apps running.
I wanna know what is using those 250+mb of ram!

see exchange service,any svn services n keep track of system usage. normally 100mb+ will be taken for ui, framework...etc.
but. eventhough u keep track of it,then slaughter it, it will come back to life n running, so i wouldnt recommend slaughtering system usage.
switching between app normally slow for full or stock rom. try find some debloated rom. it will be suitable for u if u wanna more free ram rather than liquidity.

Google Chrome was the most ram-eating app as far as I know.
Sometimes the best method is just restart your phone from time to time or even make a wipe - this is normal for all low-end android phones as they get sluggish after some time.
Long story short: I ended up buying a new phone with 2gb of RAM

but, bigger ram doesnt solve anything as far as i know.stock gapps n app from firmware will be da 'pacman' here. unless ur obtain 'god mode' for ur fone.

I have same symptoms pawci0 and ltkipras mentioned.
But I don't want to buy a new phone...
The lack of memory is noticeable when I run Waze or maps . It just opens for a couple of minutes and closes by itself or rather hangs the entire device.
What should I do? Go for the CM10.1 stable, try a different ROM (i.e. Slim). Change kernels?
nope, waze doesnt use that much ram, try to fix permission first n clear cache in recovery
n try to use other kernel, mine ok with multitask, rather heavy with online games n hearing mp3 n receiving whatsapp, line n we chat at da same time
n try greenify app to control app thats always running.

Just try a other rom or kernel you would be amazed how lets say a change of kernel can speed things up. The point is everyone uses their phone differently different apps and things so you need to find the rom that suits you mostly.

I have my phone for about 3 months (i think) and it was working perfectly. Smooth, without any problems. I was using it for some small games (CoC) and social media (Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook). Well, it WAS working perfectly. Everytime I was clearing RAM (closing apps) it was showing that about 800-950MB of RAM were free. Now, after updating to Android 7.0 it changed. It shows about 300-400MB of RAM is free (without any app opened). I am also lagging as hell (specially in Snapchat - it freezes almost completly). I was trying to clear it anyway possoble, uninstalling apps, using stock File Manager trying to optimize system. It didn't worked.... Does anyone has similar problem and/or has some solution? Thanks...

tbh, for me android i did opposite. more ram free and 5% increase in antutu score.

More free RAM doesn't mean more performance. It's a bad habit to clear your RAM. Apps that killed will just come back and more hungry for RAM. Continuously doing this will put strain in the CPU and thus, will drain more battery.

I recommend uninstalling bloatware and keep minimal number of apps . This will save more ram and more juice . Dont use any task killers as they are themselves battery havvoks
