Weird problem when making image of SD - Nook Color General

So I tried to make a backup image of my SD card containing my present copy of CM7 and files.
Took out the SD and mounted it to my PC then using win32diskimager made an image and everything seemed okay. Put in a fresh new SD card same size as the original and burned the image I made to the new card.
Put it in my NC and booted and it just goes to stock. So I took it out mounted it to look at it and it contained everything from my original stock memory.
What could have happened. The only thing I can think of is when I put in the SD and rebooted it copied the internal over to the card wiping out the boot and everything
p.s I am using version win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.1-r15-win32
Have just downloaded latest version 0.3 and will try it.

Did you make the SD card bootable first?
Windows can't see Linux partitions and will not copy them.

Using the latest win32 diskimager it created a copy that booted fine. Not sure why the older version didn't work. Before using the new version I redid with .01 and then looked at the SD and it was blank while it indicated it was writing nothing was placed on the card.
Why the NC transferred over its memory to the card though is weird.

The NC will do that any time the card is in... with stock or rooted... you can dual boot the CM7 with stock and it will always create those folders on the boot partition when you boot into stock.

Switching SD Cards

Hello,
I am buying a 16 GB Class 6 Micro SD soon, and i was wondering if there is anything I should do to it before putting it into my phone. Should I be worried, since the new SD card isn't partitioned, about accidentally bricking my phone? If so, what should I do to it before putting it inside of my phone?
Thanks.
1. you will loose all applications, they are stored on the sd card, so duh!. (lots of force closes)
2. you can't brick your phone by replacing an sd card.
If you want to use or already using apps2sd, you will need to partition the new card to have an EXT partition. This is where the apps will be loaded on the sd card. You can use the latest from Amon Ra (located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=5666691) to partition the new sd card.
After rebooting from the partitioning, you will need to download all of the apps from the market again. Or you can backup using a rooted back up.
If you are not using any apps2sd currently, then you only need to ensure that the new card is formatted to fat32.
Thanks, so when I get the sd card I should just put it in, boot into recovery, partition it and then re-download all the apps and I'm done?
make a backup using what you like best (nandroid, switchrom, etc.) and copy all you fat32 to your computer.
put in new sd card, create desired partitions and mount to your pc so you can copy all your old files over (this will include your backup) then unmount and unplug from pc
restore backup and you will be right back to business as usual for the most part (may lose some passwords and other small things)

Can someone talk me through step by step cloning my SD card?

Basically setup:
N1 rooted
5.0.6 via kang
all 280 apps on sd card, 512mb partition. Got like half of it empty so dont need to expand if that makes any difference.
8GB class 4.
NEW 16GB class 6, so could someone talk me through step by step how to clone that SD card please [have titanium backup, and will buy the premium asap]. Also how to format the new SD card because I REALLY dont remember how I did it the first time.
Cheers
Just copy everything and put it back and run fix_permissions for the applications to work.
Format the card anyway you want, Amon_Ra's recovery image can do it from the phone too.
Will running it from Amon Ra erase the info on the card (i am sure it will)?
Also, how do I 'copy' from and onto the ext partition?
I use ubuntu.
Doesn't the recovery have a backup+ext? I believe it does. Think I used it once.
I'd back up twice, maybe three times since the last backup I made was an incomplete/corrupt backup.
Then just use USB mode to copy al your files onto the PC. Stick your new card into the N1 then format under settings.
Copy everything back onto the card from your PC. Go back into recover and restore.

What your going to do is, copy all your files from your old SD card to a space on your hard drive. Then, insert the new SD card into your phone, format it, and only after you have formatted inside the phone, you can put your files you copied to your hard drive onto the new SD card. Just drag and drop. Simple.
p.s. This is just what I would do. Might be a faster way

If you are using apps 2 sd, here is what I did. Made a nandroid back up with extension. Copied everything off my sd card to my computer including the nandroid back up. Inserted the new card into the phone and booted into recovery. Partitioned the new card appropriately for apps 2 sd. Copied the files back onto the sd card. Wiped data, dalvick, and ext while in recovery then restored the nandroid back up. Everything should work then.
If you're not running a2sd copy to pc and then on to the new card after you've formatted

[Q] I have Rooted the Nook (SDCARD) but I cant get Clockworkmod to work

So I have installed the Rom on the SDCard and I can see the Rom Manager but I took the SD Card out and put the Google App zip from here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version on the SD Card booted the nook back and then went into Rom Manager to "Boot Into Recovery" but nothing happens the system just reboots and I don't get that screen with the orange text to let me install the apps from the SD card.
Keep in mind that I rooted the nook the soft way buy making a bootable SD card.

It doesn't sound like you've actually rooted the nook - you've just booted into an alternate ROM on the SD card. If you want to get into CWM, you can either create an SD card which has CWM and will launch it when you boot with the SD card in, or you can install it to internal memory so the SD card isn't necessary.
Thanks for the notes. I basically figured out I didn't really need it if I used the trick of turning the unit on while holding the N button. As a follow up question. Now that I have everything setup can I make an image of this SD Card and put that image on a bigger faster card? Or will I need to start over?

If you use dd just to copy the raw data on the SD card, you'll get the advantages of faster speed, but the partition will be the exact same size. If you want to take advantage of the bigger space, you'll need to partition the SD card and copy the files manually.

So I don't know much about dd although I have seen it on the site before so I can look that up. As for the partitioning tool I know the first partition has to be 'boot' not sure on what size it has to be or any other specifics do you know any of that data? Also thanks for taking the time to answer all of this. I am hoping that this will stop some of the Force Close issues I am seeing.
The easiest way is to use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957 to install CM7 to your SD card. The image takes care of creating the partitions of the appropriate size. As for writing the image itself, you can follow any guide for dd, or use WinImage on Windows which is probably a bit easier to follow.
Yeah but I wanted to know if I could copy all my date over. Just by like copy and paste sort of thing. In other words I dont want to get to carried away on installing all this stuff then have to redo everything once I get a better card.

[Q] Nook HD+, Upgrading from Jellybean to KitKat?

Hello,
I'm currently running my Nook HD+ on Jellybean, using one of verygreen's boots.
(NookHDplus-verygreen-New-SD-add-bokbokan-Cyanoboot-rev0-(06.01.13) to be exact)
I'm wanting to upgrade to KitKat, because a few reviews say it provides a better experience.
So I followed the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602796
It's all very familiar, and is pretty much the same exact process as I followed when I successfully did the verygreen boot above.
I've got everything loaded onto my 8GB SanDisk SD Card, it's in my Nook HD+, and I'm ready to go.
At least, that's what I thought.
I seem to be having this issue where it's not able to find my SD Card.
When I load cyanoboot universal bootloader, CWM only gives me the options to install zips from /sdcard.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but /sdcard is classified as the internal "sd card"; and the thing I'm wanting is ext_sdcard, right?
So the question is, how do I point my device in the direction of the external SD Card, so it can boot from it?
Not sure if this helps, but when I spring my SD Card out and back in, it returns the following:
/storage/ext_sdcard: Idle-Unmounted
/storage/ext_sdcard: Checking
/storage/ext_sdcard: Idle-Unmounted
I could be wrong; as I'm no programmer, or by any means a developer, but this sounds like it's recognizing the drive, but unmounting it immediately after recognition.
Thanks in advance,
Vahn
I'm definitely no expert, but looking at the link you provided, step 6 says to copy the files to the INTERNAL SD (internal memory) as the current CWM can only read the internal SD. So it seems you boot from the external SD card, but you need the files on the internal memory for it to find them?
Update:
Fixed it myself.
I just had to completely re-format the SD Card, and drag/drop the ZIP files (CWM-Recovery-Ovation, CM-11, and PA_GAPPS).
Then I restarted the Nook WITHOUT THE SD CARD, and it started recognizing external_sd.
I put the SD Card in, mounted it, loaded the zips from external, and it worked like a charm.
Since your HD+ already had CM10.x on EMMC, there is a simpler process that does not require use of an external SD card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/general/how-to-updating-hd-hd-internal-emmc-to-t2863171.
