[Q] DataCreate.apk what is it? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In \system\app directory what is functionality (purpose) of the "DataCreate.apk"
what does it do?
what is the result of removing it?
before saying anything about searching read the below statement:
I've searched in google, XDA and other forums about this apk but none seemed to know what is it so I am going to ask here.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Inside the apk there is a sound file inside res/raw called mp3_1khz.mp3 which has very annoying sound any idea why does the app need this?
EDIT2: link to the mp3 file I was talking about http://www.mediafire.com/?2zay7j6xrlfyjs1
WARNING: The file is really annoying
Request: if the file is important can someone delete that sound file from the apk and re-upload it (JVH deodexed )

Google is watching us ? what the hell and why is there such a sound file in this ap p.... i delete it.... For me it is google spy ...

I deleted now and I am going to report if there are any negative consensuses
don't think that it is use (spying on us)
Ok
In first reboot (phone rebooted it self)
Second reboot (Email crashed)
EDIT: Doing some reboots and dalvik cache cleaning to see what will happen.
EDIT2: It seems that its needed for phone without it phone will reboot itself.

I though someone knew about this apk so I posted here.
I found what I wanted to know so this thread is officially CLOSED.
Conclusion for future reference this file is necessary for EACH boot.
However I could delete the annoying mp3 file which is 1.8mb by using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681633

It's from Samsung. Have a look into classes.dex, there are lots of sample contacts (near the end of it). There are references to samsungtest. Maybe this app can be used to create demo or test data.

How to fix non looping Ringtone?

Anyone know how to make ring tones loop?
I say this as I am using the Incubus froyo build and when I set it to the Digital Ring (not a custom ring tone) , it only tones once.
This, as you can imagine is quite annoying, anyone know why or how to fix this? Others must be dealing with this problem.
This was talked about before but I'll have to look for it, from what I remember you need to open it in an audio editor and there's some kind of "loop" tag that is set to false on Digital Ringtone. I'll see if I can find the post (unless somebody beats be to it)
EDIT: Here's the post
and HERE is an archive with all the files already looped
Use Bell phone its close. Sorry I don't have a better solution.

Thanks for the link. I remember this being an issue in the past (I have used Android since the beginning). I remember putting the media folder on the SD card and the phone detected automatically.
This is not the case however with my version of froyo. I put the media folder on the SD card with all the audio and the phone isn't detecting the additional ringtones. Is there anything else I need to do?

Download 7zip (google it) and you can open .tar/.tgz files with it.
Download the build you'd like to use and open with 7zip.
Replace the media folder with the new one.
Flash the new androidinstall.
Or here's an androidupdate with the new media. (Haven't tested though)

[Q] Willingly uninstalled a default app (how could i be soo dumb)

Please help me, i have a Galaxy S gt-i9000 with froyo (rooted) and i downloaded some custom dialer/ contacts and sms packs (it looked nice so i thought .. why not give it a try) but one of the apps said that its recommended to remove the default app so that it wont cause any conflicts. i wanted to uninstall the default dialer app but i ended up uninstalling the "Phone" app .. and now i cant use the contacts widget.. touching a contact wont pop up the menu with options (call, video call, send sms ..)
i wanted to check if i can try anything in Kies (restore or something) but my phone doesn't seem to be recognized anymore in Kies :|
Is there anything to be done?
any advice is deeply appreciated.
i have attached phone apk for you to install. you just need to unzip it and place it under /system /app and then reboot. make sure system is mounted RW
if that fails, reflash the ROM.
thank you for the prompt answer.
i downloaded the zip but i cant get to the root folder .. i mean .. i can only connect the phone in storage mode ...
should i try using a card?

You need either Root Explorer (paid) or Astro File Manager (free) from the market. Storage mode is fine, just copy the unzipped apk from your pc to the internal storage, then use one of the apps above to move it to /system /app.
Make sure you mount /system /app as rw or it wont paste.
ok so i copied it in /app ... asked me if i want to replace .. canceled and tried to run the phone apk that i already had ... it said App not installed.. so i copied and replaced the one from you .. and tried to run .. still no result :|
the phone apk is there ... but i think the dialer app is the one actually missing .. could you please add the dialer app as well?

right now i have from dialer: dialertabactivity.odex (i think there should be a dialer.apk here as well)
and from phone: Phone.apk, Phone.odex, Phone_Util.apk, Phone_Util.odex, PhoneErrService.apk, PhoneErrService.odex, PhoneSetupWizard.apk, PhoneSetupWizard.odex
pff .. i erased the contacts.apk as well :| i just figured that one out :|

Yep, it's the one with the green square, no Dialer.apk on my phone, just DialerTabActivity (apk&odex)Ok I've added a few into this rar, most you probably have, but I found 2 contact ones you didn't mention, so maybe they will help, these are all I have on my laptop that are related to the phone I think, see if they help.
you got a DialerTabActivity apk?
i copied all and overwrite them but still cant install the apps back. i would of wanted to keep my apps and stuff ... is there any other way to reinstall the default apps that i stupidly uninstalled? (Contacts, Dialer, Phone) dont know if it helps .. but i used the "Uninstaller for Root" app

Ok, I could be wrong here, but I'm fairly sure I read somewhere on here that you need to MOVE system apps, not COPY them, so go to system/app/ again and delete the ones you copied, then Move them from root of your sd to system/apps again. Then maybe try a reboot. I'm not sure this will solve it, but it's probably worth a try...
well ... no wireless here ... no wap on my sim ... cant get astro at the moment seems that everything i thought i was doing was bogus .. the file manager was saying that it was pasting/ copying/ deleting but it wasn't ... Sorry, I assumed you were using Astro, or Root Explorer.
Astro is free on the market so it should be ok for me to post it here (if not, someone tell me ok?).
Gimme a few minutes to upload it...
ok .. i'll wait as much as it takes .. just to get this bastard working
Hey, happy to help, if I'm actually helping lol. That's what the sites for
Ok I've attached Astro, but I'd recommend buying Root Explorer, it's what I use. Also I've included a pic of the permissions needed by each of the files I put in the rar. I don't know about Astro, but in Root Explorer you just long press the app to get to permissions menu. You may not even need them, I'm not sure. Will check back tommorrow to see if you're making any progress.
ok thanks once again .. and good night
well astro cant edit permissions .. or at least not the free version .. or maybe they changed it in newer versions (in case there are any)

Damn, that's a pity, that was the latest version from the market, think you should buy Root Explorer if you can.
Permissions aside, did you successfully move the files with Astro?
If you did, dont try to install them, try a reboot first, I think that's what I did when I put the email.apk from SGSII into my SGS.
Sorry I didn't solve your problem tonight, will try again tommorrow if you want
i couldnt even move them cause the app dir is read only ... same for the files ... so unless i can get an app that can edit permissions i cant try moving/rebooting .

[Q] LightJBv1-2.ZIP contains 'SMSspy' Trojan - according to Ad-Aware

Hi all,
A while ago I managed to install LightJB thanks to this forum; the phone became a lot snappier because that ROM had ditched a bunch of bloatware.
Just now, I ran a PC system scan with Ad-Aware which detects in the file "LightJBv1-2.zip", a trojan called "SMSspy". The ROM is too big to upload, but its size is reportedly 417 MB (437.476.670 bytes), and the size on disk is 417 MB (437.477.376 bytes). Unfortunately I have not written down from what mirror I downloaded the ZIP file, but it was a link listed here as I slavishly followed all suggested steps. I did a search for 'virus' and for 'LightJBv1-2' and did not find any report on this. This leads me to believe that more people have downloaded the file. Possibly the ROM has been used as a basis for other ROMs (I am quite a n00b, so perhaps this is a dumb remark:cyclops.
I was wondering whether this might be a false positive, or perhaps if someone that has the LightJB v1-2 installation file on his/her PC could try to verify if the Ad-Aware scan was correct or not?
I am using some government services that require an SMS verification system, which makes me worry a bit..
Kind regards and please do let me know if more info is required,
Wouter

thanks for the reply. I have made a screendump to prove my point about the ZIP (attached). I then unpacked and scanned the contents hoping Ad-aware would pinpoint the file containing the SMSspy.GD trojan. However, it did not find anything Does this mean it is a false positive? I don't know, but Ad-aware does continue to find this Trojan in the ZIP file...
F-Secure has written about the SMSspy trojan and what the code does. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to post a link there, but searching Duckduckgo with this "On Android threats Spyware:Android/SndApps.A and Trojan:Android/SmsSpy.D." does bring up the site immediately. I'm reckoning someone could change some values in that code to make a phone running the hacked app send data to himself. Perhaps someone on this forum recognizes where this code may be put and help with this search. Anyone with the F-secure virusscanner could also download the LightJBv1-2.ZIP file and go through the contents.
I have scanned several more times since then and no suspicious file was found... I downloaded the Avira scanner hoping that it would find SMSspy.GD too, but to no avail. Avira does find code of Rootor.RH (listed as a virus in their database) in the Superuser.apk files, but I'm guessing that is a false alarm that has to do with the function of the Superuser app.

I have it!! That is, Avira did find it this time:

(Dutch version, reporting "[DETECTION] Contains code of the virus ANDROID/Smsspy.S.Gen")
Apparently, the classes.dex file in the DSMLawmo.apk contains the Trojan code. What does this file do and who can open the APK file and check whether the code from the SMSSpy trojan (see my previous post about the F-secure forum message) is actually being misused??
best regards, Wouter
Attached:
- screendump showing Avira found the virus in the DSMLawmo.apk file,
- the Avira log (also finding code of another virus in Superuser.APK - I am guessing this has to do with the fact that Superuser is root-related and therefore scares the virusscanner),
- and.. the infected APK file. I renamed this file to make sure people don't run it unintentionally. SO please, only run the APK if you know what you're doing! I take no responsibility for any damages coming from running it (as a matter of fact, I might be a victim myself as I installed and am still running JBLightV1-2 on my Samsung Advance S). I do think the importance of uploading this file outweighs the risks as developers may have unwillingly and unknowingly contributed to spreading malicious code through this great community. It may - after all - also be a false positive, but two scanners have now found the SMSSpy trojan independently.
Please tell me how to remove G data Internet security ? When I try to remove from Goole Play, tell me to the this application is Administrator on device, and I must deactivate first , and try remove ?
How to deactivate???
Try in Settings --> Security (on CM11, on Stock look for something similar)

XDADev Forum i9300 ROMs contain trojans
Just bumping this post as it appeared on google when I looked up the smsspy.s.gen virus. The Avira database had this to say:
The file is a malicious Android application that undermines the security of the device or the privacy of the user. Typically, Android malware attempts to steal personal or account information, gain access to device functions via backdoors, send text messages or dial premium numbers, and lock or encrypt the device so the user must pay to unlock the device.
Operating System: Android.
This piece of malware is able to steal sensitive information.
Aliases
AVG: Android/G2M.R.FB4923BB003A
Avast: Android:SmsSpy-KB
Dr. Web: Android.SmsBot.439.origin
ESET: Android/TrojanSMS.Agent.AAJ trojan
Kaspersky Lab: HEUR:Trojan-Spy.AndroidOS.SmsThief.es
So in general, this isn't some harmless adware and what is more disturbing is that my anti-virus didn't detect the trojan when I downloaded the I9300XXUGNH4.LiteROM zip file. The trojan also appears to remain dormant for several weeks before activating. It's damage isn't limited to Android since it was hijacking Java files on my PC and dropping a Bladabindi backdoor virus into them. I also found that another APK file called DSMLawmo contains the same virus. So in short, the xdadeveloper forum is a minefield of trojan software which the administrators really need to do something about since it undermines the trust of it's users.

[APK Request] Car mode

Edit: The S voice APK would also be most helpful.

Install a launcher, Nova or Apex both work. Add a shortcut (system shortcut not apps) choose a setting short cut and look for Drive Mode. It also gives you the option to use Download Booster. Which AT&T has removed.
The drive mode is present in your phone, its only hidden cuz they want you to use their AT&T drive mode. Samsung one still exists! Hope this helps.

Okay, here are the files from the /system/ directory of my own S5. Mine is the Sprint variant, however I'm confident that they're the same...
You CAN NOT flash this .zip in recovery, you must extract the contents and copy to the appropriate directories in the system partition.
Remember after you put them there, you must change the permissions for the folders and the files:

No, you dont do that....
you do exactly what i explained....
download the .zip,
extract the contents to SD Card, (or ANY Download folder),
Once extracted, you will have simple directory, starting with "system/",
[ Now, you simply go thru the folders, and copy them from where you extracted them and paste into same folders in your phonephone's "system/" partition....]
Basically;
if you copy it from /system/app/DriveLink/DriveLink.apk on your SD Card,
Then you paste it to /system/app/DriveLink/DriveLink.apk on your phone...
Change permissions as i indicated earlier, as you copy each one,
When all are done, reboot. ..
[While booting back up a message will say something like
"Optimizing Application 1 of 3..."
thats a good sign that you did it right. ...]

Hi, thanks for the explanation, but I'm really new at this, and I need this application.
I do not understand, "Change permissions as I indicated earlier, as each copy"
that you mean this?, the only thing I see is that button "r-w and r-o" or you mean super user permissions?
------------read---------write---------execute
---owner--x-------------- x--------------
----group--x--------------x-------------
----Other--x------------- x------------
----set uid-----------set gid-------r sticky
hello ... when given permission to DriveLink, and drivelinkremote,
at 2 give them permission, but I did this to see if this well in owner, group, others, check all run.
restart, and indeed was installed when lit, but when I want to open, do not find in menu, and the car mode toggle of the active,
I get that you can not open out "car stopped mode"
Do you mean that the app is force-closing when it tries to open after toggling the 'car mode' quicksetting?

okay, hopefully this will answer any questions you have had or would have had...
I know its a little messy, but bear with me, I've never done a Screen Recording before...
Just read the instructions i posted above, watch the videos, and if you still dont get it, read and watch again...
remember to put things in the same folder paths you pull the from (the main difference between the two videos), etc...
Once all are done, reboot....

Error - the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped

Hello gentlemen,
I'm back, with a what I hope is a minor issue. I hope someone can help me.
I have the following head unit (Universal Model):
KLD Universal model S07 - RK3181 (quadcore)
800x480 resolution - KK 4.4.4_23072015
MCU version MTCB-KLD2-V2.67 (Jul 09 2015 19:15:51)
Kernal version 3.0.36+ [email protected] #396 (Wed Jul 22 17:40:16 CST 2015)
Build number RK3188-ENG4.4.4 23072015.09:09:11
CPU ARMv7 1.6Ghz (x4)
It is rooted via the factory settings method. But other than that it is pretty much still stock (I added a cooling fan). The only other apps I add where PowerAmp, PowerAmp Toast, Xposed Framework, XposedMTC, and Lucky Patcher (I believe this app fully unlocks the PowerAmp app). I have had no issue with it for the last 7 months.
However, the other day it took a long time to bootup. Now I have some google service errors: "the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped"
I have to keep on clicking "OK" in order for the error pop-ups to close. I have to repeat this several times until all the pop-ups finally stop. Other than that, everything else is working properly. Although I notices that Xposed and PowerAmp Toast do not start (no icons on the top notice bar).
I tried going to Settings/App Manager/Google Service Framework - and then I click Forces Stopped it, Disable, Clear Data, Clear Cache, Enable. Then I reboot, but I still get the same google service errors.
Can someone please help me fix this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Galo
PS - One other thing. This is related to the XDA website in general. How can I get rid of that stupid side panel (Analysis & Opinion / More XDA New). It keeps on automatically scolling and gets in the way of reading and typing. It is really annoying. Can someone tell me how to switch this off. Thanks again
Lucky Patcher has a "clear cache" option. Maybe try that? Should force all the Android apps to optimize at boot and maybe fix your issues.
Hello BullGawd,
I already tried that. I also tried going into Settings/App Manager and clearing the cache for Google Services Framework.
I even tried by pressing the small reset botton on the face of the head unit. I am trying to avoid doing a factory reset from the recovery screen.
Has anyone had this issue with this these head units? How did you get this error fixed.
Thanks,
ggee
Hi guys,
My unit is stock. But I think I am just going to flash a newer version of the factory firmware (kitkat 4.4.4). In the old threads there used to be two repositories. One was the huifei-fileserver, and the other was a Google Drive site. Now I only see the huifei-fileserver.
Anyways, I downloaded the latest KLD RK3188 800x480 firmware:
http://huifei.fs-fileserver.de/cont...D 4.4.4/800x480/KLD 800x480 20150820 Factory/
However, it looks like the firmware .img file is made up of two parts. Both are zip files and each one contains a .img file.
-Am I supposed to merge both of these files into one .img file? If so, how do I do this?
-Or am I supposed to put both of these .img files into the root of the sd card (then insert to the gps slot)?
I know how to flash and update the firmware. However, I have only ever seen this process done using one .img file - not two. Can someone please clarify what to do with these two files in order to flash them properly. I do not want to gamble and brick my unit.
Thanks,
ggee
is one an mcu.img file? If so, remote that and only flash update.img

Hello,
The first zip file says Part1 and its 204MB in size. This zip contains one update.img (634MB when extracted). The second zip file says Part2 and its 91MB in size. This zip also contains one update.img (yet it is the same size when extracted - 634MB). This is confusing and should be something easy and straight forward.
I am not sure if both of these files need to be merged. If they are supposed to be merged, how would you do this (what app does this).
-OR-
I am not sure if both update.img files need to be copied to the root of the sd card. However, both files cannot have the same name within the same directory, otherwise one file will overwrite the other. One file name will need to be changed. But I believe once you change the name, the head unit will not recognize it as a firmware image anymore.
Can someone please clarify this.
Thanks,
ggee
ok you need to use winrar first to combine the two. Are you sure these weren't rar files NOT zip files?

Hello,
Yes, these are winrar files and I also use the winrar software. Sorry, I tend to use the word "zip" when talking about compressed file formats in general. Both files I am speaking about are winrar (Part1 and Part2). And each has an update.img file. How do I combine the files? Is there a special function within winrar?
BTW - do you have any idea about my original problem (google services stopped working)? Since I have not gotten a definitive answer, I was thinking about either doing a factory resetting, or just updating the firmware and mcu. I decided to update and that is why I'm stuck on these two "winrar" files, and how to combine them.
Thanks,
ggee
if you search that is a very common problem. Resetting won't fix it. Open first rar and extract. It will then combine the two into one update.img file.

Hello Dave,
Thanks for pointing this out. I honestly have never had to merge two winrar files together before. I was definitely overthinking this process. I guess this happens when dealing with the more complex issues here, and not wanting to brick the unit. I really appreciate it.
As for my google services problem. I have done several searches on this topic. I do see lots of people asking how to fix it. But I do not see posts answering them back with a fix. The only other answer I was able to search out is on the Old Threat Q&A sticky (Problems and Solutions Found by Users):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56791126#post56791126
This is a very vague answer and does not give much detail. I tried what they mentioned and it does not work for me. I think after the Old Threat was split, the answers are probably scattered around in partial chunks. If you have a the link to an answer/solution to this, I would be greatly appreciative. Otherwise, I am forced to have to update/flash the firmware on an issue that probably could have been easily solved. If it is a very common issue, maybe it should be its own sticky so that people can easily see it.
Thanks again.
ggee
There is no fix but myself and another person did try a bunch of different versions so search for it to find the most stable version.

Hello guys,
Yes. I was able to correct the problem.
All I did was re-flash the stock firmware rom. You can either re-flash your current version (if you have the update.img file for your head unit model). Or you can find the post in the Android Auto forum that lists most of the stock firmware roms. Make sure you select and download the correct one for your head unit type and model. I simply went back to the seller and asked them to send me the latest official stock firmware rom.
If you have certain apps and setting that you want to keep, make sure you make a back up before re-flashing the rom. Otherwise you will have to reinstall the apps and setting. Since I am basically keeping my head unit in a stock status (except for normal root), I just skipped the back up step and re-flashed the rom.
Extract the .zip or .rar of the firmware rom image. Then copy it to an SD card and insert it into you head unit. Reboot the head unit into recovery mode. Make sure to clear caches while you are in the recover mode, before re-flashing the rom. Then follow the menus for flashing the rom.
Later,
ggee
