Non market apps - Captivate Themes and Apps

How do you "allow the installation of nonmarket apps"?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

you have to root your phone and flash a 2.2 ROM. thats one way. the other way, is to use the newest version of Super One Click Root and root your phone, then flash the "allow non-market apps" option. both can be done using the newest Super One Click program. And some advice for you since i'm guessing you're new here, is you shouldn't post something like this in the themes and apps section. this is more of a Q&A topic. Theres prob quite a few threads that can answer your question there. i'm just letting you know before you get flamed for doing something like this again

I did root my phone already, im just not sure how to flash it

If you rooted with Super One Click , there is a button that says "allow non-market apps" like norcal says.
Just click that.

Do I find that in my pc??

You simply need to open the same super one click program you used to root your phone.make sure you have USB DEBUGGING ON.then just plug your phone into your computer cord, and then click on the "allow non-market apps" icon.I believe it is the third box from the left.its right next to the "shell root" box.once you click the "allow non-market apps" box, you should be good to go

Check out mobiletechvideos.com
He has some really comprehensive "how to" videos for rooting and flashing roms for the captivate.
I'm still pretty new to the rooting world and I was able to follow along. Just make sure you watch the video at least once before trying anything and follow his directions exactly.

[Q] How do you know when your phone's rooted?

Can I ask a stupid question? I've just used "Universal Androot" on my Milestone 2.1-update 1, and it SAYS it was successful and that it has been "rooted". I'm just wondering apart frm flashing a rom etc, how would I be sure that my phone is now rooted?
Download a "root only" app (i.e. setcpu, root explorer, wireless tether). If your phone asks for superuser permission, you're rooted!

Aight then, thanks for that, I'll try that now and report back.

I've downloaded and used the "Root Explorer" app, and it works and asked for permission to be used in the beginning. So if I wasn't "rooted" I wouldn't be able to use this app then?
Right. It allows you to change system files if you select r/w. You can't do that without root. Setcpu allows you to overclock your phone (make it faster). It's worth buying.

Aight then, well thanks you 2 innit, greatly appreciated but I think I'll jus' stay safe for now and keep it "unrooted". The main reason I wanted to "root" was for 2.2 Froyo, but thanks though.

Also try VISIONary from the Market and let us know if that works on the N1 2.2.1. I have a hunch it might, but I'm already rooted.

I just confirmed myself, VISIONary from the Market roots 2.2.1 on-device. Have fun!
Is root with VISIONary permanent, or do you have to run it every time the phone is rebooted?
Try it, and report back...

Seems like r10 VISIONary (currently on the market) perm-roots the N1. At least I get "already rooted" whenever I run it even after storage wipe and reboot. I personally wanted only temp-root.
Please don't spam threads. There is already a Superuser zip file from ChainsDD which is quite well-used and well-documented. And this thread was from over a year ago and was about a completely different topic.

Install sucsessful

I get this install complete message from my update. Zip file but when my phone boots up I don't get the super user message and I install the screenshot app. For root phones only and it tells me not rooted. Any ideas why I'm not rooted yet?

Did I say to use it for lagfix?....no but even someone who can't read well can use it to root....literally rooting for dummies
You were having trouble so I tried pointing you I'm the direction for easiest root method...heck you don't even have to know how to follow directions to use it
It's funny you talk down on somebody without even doing your research. If you did you would know that the app doesn't root your phone anymore. Thanks for the help tho I do appreciate it

I have saved on my computer Ryan's z4root.apk from 2-3 weeks ago, that will still Root won't it if I ever need on Stock 2.1.1?
I'd suppose it would - he just had to take out the root feature for some reason. The application wasn't defective.

On the oneclickroot program there's an option to " allow non market apps" to unlock your phone you'll need to SEARCH xda or Google/xda on the one click unlocker for captivate. Some captivates it works others are to new. + galaxy s unlocker in the market has proven to work for some.

Download the apk of the application from anywhere u find it. Put it on your SD card. Use any file manager to install it. You may need to change your permissions before that in settings. Have fun

Or perhaps even easier, download the apps on to your computer, then start android central's sideload wonder machine, plug your phone in with USB debugging enabled, and follow the simple instructions.
http://www.androidcentral.com/swm
You can use Droid Explorer as well and simply push with adb
Superoneclick will root your phone, we all know that. But it will also enable 3rd party (non-Market) apps. After that, no problems.
3rd party apps can be installed on all versions of android by default.

Att removed the option on their captivates. The i9000 roms we run on captivate have that option in settings/applications. Captivate roms do not have that option. I heard there was an ota update that changed that for att customers, but I can't confirm for sure.
Ohhhh that's sad. Kill the purpose of open source.
