[Q] Unrooted Nook Color 1.2 Honeycomb - Nook Color General

I bought a nook color over the weekend, and I love this thing. It came out of the box running 1.0.1, I quickly rooted it with autonooter I believe, then like a moron I side-loaded the 1.2 update. After fiddling with that for a while I decided to try and root it again, with no luck. However I did make a bootable SD card running deeper Blue's Honeycomb image.
I love it! even if it is unrooted!
I was wondering if anyone else is doing this or something similar?

Can you give tell me how to do this?
I have 1.2 and wasn't sure if I can do this? Can you post the thread?

Go to youtube and search for "How to Root the Nook color" there should be a video playlist by Butterscotch TV, step by step how to run android 3.0 (Honeycomb) using both a Mac and a PC. The only problem I had was installing GApps, I think it's because I used the incorrect command line.

For apps I just use the amazon app store and app planet

Did you ever figure out how to get the market or gapps onto the system? I've been troubleshooting it for about a week. I keep getting a "device not found" error.

[Q] colornook zinio anyone?

Anyone able to get zinio magazine reader run on the nook color?
Following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827566 here I got the apk and installed, but the zinio app isnt visible and the readerhub isnt working either.
the zinio app is the last thing I need to say woohoo and be satisfied with the root.
Thanks to all who have done so much with the nookcolor to root and share the information!
Thanks
I tried it as well. Got nothing.
Seems like a cool app but doesn't work yet.
I was just on the phone with Zinio today because I wanted to find out if they will be coming out with an Android app, and they told me they are working on one and should have it sometime in the first half of 2011.
This version
http://forums.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870399
works for me on Nookie Froyo, but dies on the stock firmware.
I tried installing on stock firmware with adb. I got the icon to show up but that's about it. I did try changing permissions but that did not help either. Works on my EVO. So something is missing the stock firmware.
Maybe it requires flash to work, it works fine for me on Froyo, booted of an SD card.

Anyone have this working with CM7 on the Nook Color? I loaded the three APK's but zinio just force closes as soon as it tries to connect. If the wifi is off the app seems to work. Tried fixing permissions and rebooting but it didn't help. Wondering if maybe it doesn't work with flash 10.2 perhaps...

New to Nook.

Just got my Nook today, and am interested in rooting it. I'm looking for the best method to do so.
I have rooted my HTC Inspire using Bubby's one click method, so I'm not completely unfamiliar with the process, but want to make sure of the preferred method for the Nook before I started.
Any and all insight would be appreciated.
This is what I did: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barnes_&_Noble_Nook_Color:_Full_Update_Guide
It was easier than hide-and-go-seek against helen keller.

I just use the version room manager has.
There's a post for the new market here in the nook forums, but I can send you the apk if you can't find it.

That would be appreciated, things I'm wanting to do:
- Market (I've got various items I paid for, that I would like to try).
- Fix ROM Manager, when trying to download, I get "Must upgrade...", then a force close. I'm assuming this is because I don't have the paid version installed, which I can download from Market (since I purchased it)
- Install Amazon Kindle (for the irony factor).
Any insight would be great, since I'm obviously new at this (I've owned my Nook for about 15 hours)

I used the method described in Cyanogen's wiki and had the same issue. I ended up having to install through recovery instead of ROM Manager.
So is rom manager not working for you?

OK, I am now officially pissing myself. I am now able to get into Clockwork Recovery, I've wiped Factory/Cache/Dalvik, applied CM, and after a system reboot, it just goes back into recovery.
Help!
I am not having any luck whatsoever, and am afraid I bricked my device.
I've attempted to do a CM install (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barnes_&_Noble_Nook_Color:_Full_Update_Guide), but after putting the image on, and rebooting, it goes to black, but never comes back up.
Not sure what to try at this point.
OK, something new, I was able to return back to 1.0.1, but when I get to step 5 of setup, it indicates there is a problem, and to call B&N. It reports that the serial number, model number, and Mac address ing as "MISSING", and it is at version 1.0.1.
I do have a blue dot on the box.

rooted Nook Color Run flash

Ok i read some post but i am looking at getting a Nook Color for my wife and then rooting it using CM7 to the internal drive and getting her a 32gb micro card
the ? i have is does it run Adobe Flash Like Android Phones
I dont get exactly what are you writing, but if you ask if NC runs flash, yes it uses flash normally through the appropriate web browsers, like eg Dolphin.
Sure, you just grab the Flash app from the Market. If you're having trouble with it letting you download, you need to go to Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>Market and uninstall any updates. This will give you anywhere from 10 mins to a couple of hours to install any troublesome apps, before it auto-updates back to the new Market.
I use a hacked version of flash that let's me watch hulu and its pretty smooth compared to any android phone I've used flash on.

Took hours to track down this post, and I'm not even sure if this is the best thread to ask this question, but I am running Phiremod 6.3 and can't get flash to work, as it will not show the download button in the new market. Tried the above, and while that did help me to get flash to start downloading in the old market, the market updates before the download is complete, and then kills my download of flash player 10.3. The closest I've been able to get is 80% download of flash before the market updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Never mind. Trial and error eventually paid off and I got it downloaded in under 30 seconds
Use Titanium Backup to uninstall the market update app. The uninstall the update and then try again.

Watch out for 32GB SD-cards. Some do not work right in the nook color. Electronic ghosts and what-not. A 16GB Sandisk class 2 or 4 is advisable.
Two Nook Colors here, one rooted, one stock; both using Sandisk class 4 32GB cards without even an hiccup. I can't imagine a Sandisk branded card ever having issue honestly.
DolphinHD browser seems to work fine with the version of flash on the marketplace. For Opera to work with Hulu though (my preference), you have to follow the directions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040971
Install the version attached to the original post and follow the directions on replacing the libflashplayer.so and you should be good to go!
If you just using uSD card as storage, then get one with high-speed (high class rate such Class 10) from any well-known brand.

[Q] Nook HD+ Rooting and Romming Help

Ok I'm not entirely sure where to start with rooting and flashing a new rom onto one of these fancy tablets and i'm used to dealing with phones where there are a bunch of sticky posts leading to wikis and such not of how to do this yet i see no such sticky posts so i was curious if someone could point me in the proper direction of where to get started with rooting one of these and then flashing cyanogenmod onto it.
Also a side question from the owner/user of this tablet, is there a way to install the stock rom onto a bootable microSD card to be able to keep the stock apps and stuff or should i just be able to make backups of the stock apps, namely officesuite, with titanium backup once the device is rooted?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Thanks for all the info leapinlar. A couple more questions. I haven't checked with root checker yet, but is the nook rooted by default?
Also i notice that when you go about installing cyanogenmod, that you make a back up of the stock rom, which is standard in any romming. However, I can't remember, is there a way to install certain apps from the stock rom backup once you've gotten into CM and got it running? I only ask because I'd like to be able to install office suite that comes with the stock B&N rom onto CM.

Just manually put back the apps you want after you do it.... Pretty painless. Also, after root you have the option to install apk's from anywhere so no probs
Also i remember my first root and while this sit is very helpful and the people are great i was still nervous to do it until i watched a few youtube vids on the process, i guess i am a more visual learner when it comes to things. Anyways though, watching the videos of the proicess helped me tons
Good luck

Regardless of which build or method I use, nightly or otherwise, SD, EMMC, or Updating from within CM10, I've never been able to get CM11 working on my Nook HD+ 16GB. Each try ends in my device getting stuck on the cyanogenmod boot screen (revolving arrow). The only recovery is to flash back to CM10. Any ideas?

Yes, doing a Factory Reset. Also have tried clearing and not clearing cache, neither seemed to have any effect.
Thanks for your attention. It looks like I've found a build that works. cm-11-20140804-SNAPSHOT-M9-ovation.zip installed and booted rather quickly. None of the other nightly or official/unofficial builds seem to have worked, but I'm up and running now.

Help
Ok so I managed to install cm-11-20140706-UNOFFICIAL-bok-ovation. Installation ran smoothly and everything was fine (kitkat running ok and I was able to go into main menu etc.), until I powered off the device. I remembered the display sort of paused for a brief moment and the device powered down. As I turned it back on, it boots back to the original factory rom.
I've lost my back up rom and cynoboot now only allow selection of either no.1 (boot from Stock ROM), or no. 4 (boot CWM recovery).
I have tried installing the newer ROM (cm-11-20140804-UNOFFICIAL-bok-ovation) but it says E: Can't Open /emmc /cm-11-20140804-UNOFFICIAL-bok-ovation.zip (bad) -tried downloading the file again with same result..
Out of desperation I tried all the menu functions from wiping and formatting to hard resetting it, but nothing happens. It can still boot to Stock ROM fine though. Any help to get this thing rooted with kitkat running is much appreciated..
Patience is the key ...

Patience. No, I'm not good at it either, but combined with the slower operations on the bootable microSD card, I had to wait about 15-20 minutes for the revolving arrow to stop. Touch the screen occasionally, so that the processor stays up to speed (I shouldn't think that necessary, but it stopped revolving when I touched the screen after about 20 minutes).
Noob Questions
I realize these questions will likely seem obvious to everyone, but I couldn't find an answer looking through the forum, so I figured I would ask before proceeding to try this;
The instructions say to download the SD Card Image - I see the links under "SD Card Images", but I also see similar looking links under "Cyanoboot Sources"
Example: SD Card Images: HD: sdcard-hummingbird-cm11.0-v1.img
Cyanoboot Sources: HD: u-boot-hummingbird-cm11.tgz
My question is are these the same thing? Do I need both? One or the other?
Maybe some helpful info: I have a Stock Nook HD 8gb running 2.2.0, never done anything to it other than the factory updates.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the great posts
I want to thank everyone for the outstanding work here that allowed a complete noob to take my stale 2 year old Nook HD from blah to WOW in a few simple steps.
I really worried about getting a good SD card, but I was able to exFat format an ADATA 64GB Class 10 card which then tested to 1.62 MB/s on Random Write 4KB (QD=32) on CrystalDiskMark (5 iterations, 50MB). Already owned it as I actually purchased it for the nook, but it seemed like it would not store on the external card.
I followed the instructions exactly as posted on page 1 of this thread and I have the following results: (All confirmed with Screenshots I hope will post)
Total space: 57.12GB! (dramatic improvement over factory Nook HD)
Up time: 18+ hours and going strong with NO forced restarts
Android Version: 4.4.4!
update installation steps
Hello,
I have the August update installed for the cm11 sd install on the hd+. Simple question:
What's the procedure to install the updated Rom(11/23)? Do I just boot to recovery and
flash the Rom? Or do I have to do some other things ( wipe? and/or flash gapps?).
Thanks
