Galaxy tab or Xoom? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys just wanted to get the opinion of a few tablet users. My parents want to get a tablet on Verizon, I wont let them get an iPad and they wont switch carriers due to coverage at their house so the only options they have are the galaxy tab and the xoom.
My parents are not tech savvy at all and will mainly use it for web browsing and use it as a mobile hotspot. They probably wont take it out of the house much, if at all and my mom has bad eyesight and my dad has really big fingers which makes me think the xoom might work better for them but I don't know if they need it. Does the tab seem big enough to you guys or does it leave you wanting a bigger screen? Also does it have HDMI out on it?
Do you guys think they would really benefit from the xoom or do you think the lower price of the tab makes it the better choice?
Let me know your opinions please, I have no experience with tablets and they need help making a decision.

I would probably say the Xoom for the following reasons:
More customisable interface (so you can customise it according to their preference with more user-friendly UI for mum's bad eyesight, bigger widgets for Dad's big fingers
Future-proof (given that it's a newer Honeycomb based Tablet it is likely to have more improvements and a longer lifetime than the Tab

As the tablet will (probably) never leave the house, i'd say the larger tablet (i carry my tablet with me everywhere, one the reason i prefer the Tab).
But also look at the EEE Transformer (if you can get it there). Has the same Hi Def screen as the Ipad and i've heard its been preferred over the Xoom. There is also an optional keyboard dock for it.

Get the ipad if its for home only, when im at home i never use the tab, (but the tab goes everywhere with me outside the house, the iPad never leaves it)
If they arent tech savvy then a ipad is definitely for them, being a android fanboy and the iPad being my only apple device i must say its a awesome piece of tech, the android market dosnt come close to the apple one

This. Especially if they're not tech savvy at all, go with the iPad. You can get the iPad 1 for less than the Xoom nowadays and you can certainly pick up a used one pretty cheap. They're perfect for non-tech savvy people who just want to sit around the house and consume content. Why would you not go with an iPad in that case?

Well for me. Galaxy tab is the best because of high dwfinition screen....

Ditto, If its for your parents and its not going to leave the house then you are much better of getting an iPad. Im too a Android fanboy but the iOS is much better for tech n00bs such as your parents etc and they will enjoy the experience much more because of ease of use.

The galaxy tab doesnt have a HD screen. 600 x 1024 pixels is not HD. The tab can "play" HD movies but it doesnt display them in HD resolution, thus its not a HD screen.

Had a friend with xoom, video play jerks: maybe settings? Something about sd card slot, motorola still updating firmware.

i'd recommend to zoo as it's dual core and has full hardware requirements for a tablet android, it also has the latest android - 3.0
the tab was good upon launch... but it's quite old now... unless you hold out for the 8.9 tab

i prefere the tab because of its size , and with respect to the high definition screen , the galaxy tab practical is higher it has (169 ppi ) 16/9 screen , while the xoom has (160ppi) so the galaxy tab would look nicer ad higher in resolution , and about the gpu the galaxy tab has very strong gpu even comparable to the dualcore tegra 2 in most benchmarks , and since the xoom has higher resolution the performence would b nearly the same ,
add for that the full phone functionality and the (vibrator ) xoom han no vibration

Thanks for all the input guys. The main reason I wont let her get an opacity is because I haven't used anything like it since the first Gen itouch and I will be tech support for her. I wouldn't be any help with an ipad so I wont let her get one.
I was leaning towards the tab originally but I think I am going to have to just let her pick between that and the xoom since it seems like the performance isn't different enough between the two to make a decision based just on performance. I'll probably just take her to the Verizon store this weekend.

The beauty of the iPad is you don't need tech support. Buying a android tablet for a non tech savvy person is just asking for trouble, you can't go wrong with a ipad, and Im %100 positive she will enjoy the ipad more, I'm pretty tech savvy and the ipad just seems like a better product. But its up to you I guess
swyped from a galaxy far far away...

Thanks again for your advice guys. I thought about what some of you said about the ipad being more user friendly and decided to have her try out all 3 tablets. I took her to the verizon store and she didn't like the ipad or xoom at all she said that they were too big. She got the galaxy tab which may be a good thing because I am way more familiar with froyo than I am iOS or even honeycomb. All in all i am just glad that she is happy now, if she has problems I'll be able to help her over the phone, and she saved a few hundred dollars too.

If it's mainly for web browsing I hope for you that there will be a gingerbread version for cdma tab soon, because it's much more pleasant with gingerbread. No lag at all on flash sites like with froyo. It's the same experience like browsing with the ipad, except in this case it's with flash. I hope you won't regret your choice.
Sorry for my bad english.

[Q] iPad 2 vs Galaxy Tab

Did a search, didn't find a whole lot on this topic so figured i'd ask since I'm trying to decide between the two.
I currently have a Captivate and can say i love the dev community it has. Running CM7 and its awesome.
That being said, Apple's hardware has always been great but iOS is lame. I previously had a jailbroken iPhone and it was ok at best. iPad is a bit different though, if i was to get one i'd jailbreak it as soon as i can....but more interestingly its looking like OpeniBoot has support for the original iPad so it might have iPad 2 support in the furture. I'm not sure how smooth android would be on it but it would allow me to run both android/iOS on great hardware.
A big factor for me is price, from what i'm reading the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 will probably be around $800 like the Xoom and thats too much for me. Both wifi verisons of iPad 2/Galaxy Tab around $500 which is the price point i'm looking for.
So which would you recommend?
Thanks
Wifi Galaxy Tab will be more like $400 max..
Would you not consider a used/new 3G Galaxy Tab.
The 7" design is great for portability and adding 3G completes the Tab imo..
If its for household use only I would say IPad..
Bear in mind I only own a Tab though not an IPad lol.
Well This is what I think:
iPad 2:
Much more secure
Closed Source
Nicer Screen
NOT PORTABLE DUE TO BIGGER SIZE.
Galaxy Tab 7
Not very secure ( Thank you you SOB's....your day will come ) but still more secure than Windows.
It is PORTABLE ( Can fit into pocket )
You can customize it/Flash it
All in all the Galaxy Tab is a winner IMHO. 7 inches is the PERFECT size ( pls no "****" jokes ) for being more portable and customisation.

RE:
Just got the Tab on Thursday. Bought it outright.
Got the Bell Mobility model so I could put my internet keys' SIM into it.
Two things impressed me:
1.) Using Z4Root I rooted my Tab in seconds and it was simple. (Article on the forums here with the apk)
2.) The fact that I could unlock the device for free with Roto's process (also on the forums), was pretty sweet.
I put the Overcome 1.2.2 ROM on my Tab, an extra 16gb mem card, and have installed a crap ton of apps to test its limits.
Thus far, the device has not slowed down.
It's usable in all lighting conditions, and the battery life is quite impressive.
I get that everyone pushes Apple products because they're the greatest thing since a toaster(and mildly more useful. ), but with the Tab you get freedom, functionality, and portability.
I call that a win-win.
I feel that Galaxy tab is much more impressive, I am impressed by the openness of Android and how you can manipulate it with only a little effort.
Plus, iOS is a shame, with a huge portion of its apps being paid ones, go for the Tab if it gets only a bit more expensive but 800 is way pricier to be sold.

I agree with both of you about Android. I suppose one of the main reasons I was even going to consider the iPad is the possibility of putting Android on it in the future

Better quality hardware, bigger screen, and the prices are basically the same. Also openiboot dual boots iOS and android
Galaxy tab 10.1 is the same size screen as the ipad. And where is the documentation saying the ipad has better specs...
On most threads in all the blogs I've read, Galaxy tab beat the ipad hands down... Most threads say the ipad and tabs specs are pretty close with the main difference being screen size (also ipad has bigger battery with a bit better life, 10 hours versus 8). Nowhere did it say the ipad has better hardware...
Personally Apple hype up everything, had the ipod/iphone reps to expand their market with. They aren't any better than anything else out there, in fact I get the dirts with how limiting IOS really is.
If you want something that seems to be developed with the speed of continental drift go with the Ipad, if you want something thats open and can be altered, changed and played with then the Android Galaxy Tab is the go...
When Galaxy Tab 10.1 is released then Apple are REALLY gonna have a battle on their hands, there's a reason Android is liked and IOS isn't.

i haven't been comparing the Tab 10.1 with the iPad, I'm referring to the 7" that has been out for a while. And by hardware I'm talking about the materials its made from, i.e. look/feel/build quality...i already know what the specs are

I also assumed you were comparing the iPad 2 to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 - I think that's a fairer comparison, for the original 7" Tab it's better to compare to the original iPad.
Between the Tab 10.1 and iPad 2 - I'm not sure, still deciding. But between the 7" Tab and the iPad - I went for the iPad, mostly for the bigger screen. If you go the way of the original iPad I'm sure you can pick up a mint condition one for a good price off eBay.
i think it all comes down to what kind of user you are. If you're the type that buys a Mac or any other decent pre build desktop computer and don't want to think about (read:don't understand) what goes on inside it, get the iPad/iPad2. If you're into building the desktop computer from scratch get the galaxy tab/android .

Well my main thing is price. I've been reading that the 10.1 Tab could be around $800, i dont' wanna spend that much. I've seen the 7" Tab for around $500, and the iPad 2 is $500 for the wifi version.
Hmm idk, i think it'd be wise to wait for the 10.1 Tab's official price. If its around $500 then i'll get that, if not then i'll just try n find a cheap used 7" Tab or iPad
I appreciate everybody's input

Not so!
I used to put my own PCs together, but simply can't be bothered any more, so now I own Dells and Macs. However, I choose Android for my phones and tablets mostly because I dislike the control Apple exerts over its mobile platform.

I have the galaxy tab, but the ipad 2 is better.
- dual core
- nicer screen
- netflix
- more RAM (i think)
- apple's market
- smoother and more refined
for me basically it lies on the OS itself
yeah sure, iPad looks / screen is better, but in term of hardware u can't possibly say that iPad 2 hardware is superior coz AFAIK, the chip is manufactured by samsung, and the storage drive is toshiba's
the fast that you saw based solely on the simplicity of the OS itself
you're doomed, not being able to do / mod anything like you wanted to, but in the bright side, you get stability and speed
same iPad hardware but running android wouldnt feel the same way i think, only my opinion though
how hard the process needs to be to provide square beside square beside square and that it opens up when you touch?
my suggestion is go for what you need, and make your own +/-, coz in the end you'll be the one using it ^^

That's a strawman argument. Samsung don't even make the Tegra 2 chips that will power the Tab 10.1. They have a processor, the Exynos (which I suspect is very similar to the A5), but they are using the Tegra 2 because (a) it's the Honeycomb reference platform, and (b) chances are that they don't have sufficient production capacity to satisfy both A5 and Exynos demand.
Just because Apple don't make every single component in their devices (they don't even "manufacture" their own devices anyway), doesn't mean that they don't produce superior hardware (in most cases).
A product's hardware is almost always more than the sum of its parts - it's also how well it is designed and put together. The only time when this is generally not the case, is cheap Chinese clones, which are often less than the sum of their parts!
Regards,
Dave
I think you wouldn't go wrong with either.
However, given you already have your apps in your android phone, you could stick with android, so you don't have to buy them all over, by getting into IOS.
Do you need microSD slot? Then get galaxy tab. Why not get Xoom?
Do you need a large screen? Then get Ipad.

Thats the thing. I love android, but to be honest am leaning towards the ipad2 because the Xoom doesn't seem appealing to me and from the looks of it the gTab 10.1 is going to be a xoom with better speaker placement and lack of a sd card slot.

[Q] should I get this tablet

hey, I already have an expensive smartphone plan but I want all the experience of android so I am looking for a somewhat inexpensive WiFi only android powered tab with a good build quality (good specs, multitouch, at least 6-7 inches, 1ghz, you know, that stuff). I currently have a windows phone, but I used android long ago and I was wondering, is this the tab for me?
also, is the android experience good on the tab?
and another thing/ slightly off topic, if I bought apps in the amazon app store, can I download them on the samsung galaxy tab?
sorry for this barrage of questions, but I just don't know if this is the right tablet for me
The tab is the best 7inch tablet on the market hands down, i love mine to death and it goes everywhere with me besides the pub. It was my first android device, but its not that different from android phones ive used, its just wayyy better for gaming and web related stuff
Just to provide some colour (yes, that's the correct spelling of colour) to the argument:
No. Don't get one.
I also wouldnt buy one,
I just got one bbecause I only had 300€ and no cellphone, so this is my all in one device.
But it really isnt as great as I thought and if you have a gooood cellphone already a 7inch tablet wont give you much more functionality...
I thought it would be great, it is, but not really functional.
Thanks for the input. If I don't get this tablet, what tablet would you suggest (I don't have a laptop anymore so I want another mobile computing device, other than my tower) for under $500 USDollars?
Very subjective. Getting it or not depends on individual requirement. I had mine for more than 6 months now and still loving it; maybe because how I use it and suit my requirement. Lugging an 7" inch tablet with phone function everywhere is no joke. Quite heavy after a while. Well, my guess is, lugging an Ipad is also the same. And because it is my 1st Android; it just got better.

Since you already have a smartphone, get Viewsonic Gtablet and put a custom firmware on it as soon as it arrives.
I've had mine for a few months now and recently looked at the Xoom and the new Acer 10" tablets.
I don't use it for voice but use mobile data quite a lot.
After comparing I've decided to stay with the Galaxy Tab because, by far, it is the best made and (despite Samsung) developers are giving us all we need to keep the Tab great.
well, just tried out the sprint version in the store (any difference between that and wifi only in terms of the OS?) and I think that the tab is perfect in terms of hardware however, I will try out other options like that viewsonic Gtab 10 when I get the chance to.
thanks for all the input and opinions
If you just want an android experience, and don't really mind having a 3G, then Archos 70 can be a cheaper alternative. Otherwise, if you want to venture into the realm of 7" tablets and want a lot of customization or an pure eBook experience, the Nook Color will, errr, color you impressed.
Otherwise, if you want the best 7" android tablet that no other 7" android tablet can hold a candle to, then go on and get the tab.
@grammarfreak - Random thought, that's what they said too when I went to UK a year ago. The Philippines uses American English, so we say, "color" instead. Btw, do you guys spell it as, "Center" or, "Centre?"
Edit: accidentally typed 10" instead of 7" for the Nook

Don't get the Tab.. Buy a B&N Nook Color and put this on it.

It runs as fast as the Tab. Has WAY better XDA Development and cost 250 instead of 350.
I am regretting buying my Tab.. It's the most hostile dev forum I have seen for getting a straight answer to any question. that's not a good sign.
hmm, judging by the specs, the nook color may pay off as the better tablet (for the price) in the end except, does it have any HD output? that is important to me however, its not a deal breaker

You mean it can play 1080p without hiccups? If that's true, I'm buying
Nah nah nah.
Dont get a nook color. I had one and I sold it after a month. It was the first device that I've ever sold.
In comparison to the galaxy tab it pretty much sucks.
The mediaplaying capabilities are limited to 854•480 mp4 baseline profile.
So you have to start to convert again.
Not that I have a problem with converting, after a while of constant converting its very annoying....
The tab has overwhelming mediaplayingcapabilities. It has played absolutely EVERYTHING that I've thrown at it.
mkv, avi, xvid, mp4, mov. 1080p no problem.
I had to only convert some vids once, they where mov, the tab played them, but they didn't show up in the videoapp, so I converted them to mp4.
The tab is so cheap now. I wouldn't save those 100$ to get a nook.
If you really like the tab, you could also simply pop in the sim from your cellphone and use the tab as cellphone-replacement.
That's the way I use it, the tab is actually the first cellphone I've owned LOL.
I rather have a device that is a working jumbojet than a device that is a small plane and everyone is wanting it to be a spaceshuttle.....

Dont get a nook color. I had one and I sold it after a month. It was the first device that I've ever sold.
In comparison to the galaxy tab it pretty much sucks.

Thanks, needed an opinion from someone who's had both devices.
well, I took a look at the Gtab (thx ravness for telling me) and the specs for that are amazing at an even more amazing price so I have added THAT to my list of possible tablet devices I might get.
so, does anyone have both/can tell me what the viewsonic Gtab is like compared to the galaxy tab?
and thanks for all the suggestions and, If I wasn't interested in tweaking my device(so as to make it how I want it to be) as soon as I get it, I would probably already have a galaxy tab however, Dual core 1.2Ghz processor does make the Gtab look nice (aside from the default homescreen/skin which looks and functions terribly).

Just got a Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab!

I've had my Nook Color for a few months..... have it rooted running cm7/phiremod (emmc). I got a 7" Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab 3g a few days ago and absolutely love everything about it. I took pics of my kids, videoed a humming bird outside my house, used it for GPS, front faced a video with my wife (no jokes... I'm no Anthony Weiner) and love the HELL out of my 3g. BUT..... That nook color I am so proud of. I still grab that NC for almost everything when I'm in the house (OC'd with D's kernel). Keep in mind I have an evo 4g (use as a phone now), Sprint Galaxy Tab and a nook color. What the Devs have done for the nook color is mind blowing. I really hope that Devs keep doing what they're doing for the nook color because the NC is a GREAT (gingerbread) tablet and no two ways around it. I love my rooted stock SGT but am very proud of my NC and and what roms, kernels, themes etc that I've done to it (not me but the Devs). That's it..... The nook color is a GREAT tab!

The Galaxy looks pretty darn nice. In my opinion they are quickly getting the tablets to where folks want them from both a performance and a feature perspective. The Nook was about the best choice a few months ago, its low price was able to make up for the missing features (camera, microphone), and the competition at that time was either Crap (gentouch anyone?) or Gold ($800 Xoom? Seriously?) These days there are a lot of good choices out there, and many of them are priced on this side of the sanity wall. What sets us apart is the community and the accomplishments of our devs, and the new tabs will take some time to compare there.
I used a 7" Galaxy Tab before i got my nook, and my cousin and brother both have the Asus Transformers so i have lots of experience with various tabs, and for the money i think the Nook Color is just amazing. Keep in mind tho, if i was paying the full retail 250 for the nook color, i would pay more and get a transformer, but i got mine used on craigslist for 160 and for that price it is absolutely AMAZING. I will upgrade tabs when a cheap quad core tab is out for 400 or less, but for now my OC'd to 1325 Nook Color does so much its absolutely mind blowing. Really there is no need for a high end tab right now unless you are super into games and even then a lot of them run fine on the nook.
Chef Dave....did you, by chance, work at Computer City in Edina, MN?

Nah explore I live in upstate NY. Btw... I know longer am an owner of the evo 4g.... but the proud owner of an evo 3d. I gave my 11 year old son my evo.... imagine that... an 11 year old with a pretty high end android phone and..... I'm far from wealthy. I own a restaurant and haven't cashed a pay check in 5 weeks.

Not from Minnesota, but I have a Sprint Galaxy Tab along with the NC, and both are great. The GT is an amazing tablet with the camera and the great speakers. Too bad it can't do Netflix, but that's what the NC is for, plus some.

LOL My Evo 3D arrives on the 30th and my wife is getting my Epic 4G. I had to pay $75 for Sprint to buy out my contract so I could get the 3D at the $199 price, so technically I'm getting it for $275, but my wife loses her crappy Samsung Insight and I get an upgrade in the process. Win-win!
I thought you might be someone I know. I have a friend named Dave who fancies himself as a chef and he just bought a Galaxy Tab. On his Facebook page he mentioned XDA so I just figured you were him.

Can I ask you a question.
I've got my NC - that's my first and only tablet experience. I really like it - but like anything technology related - it has strengths and weaknesses. The only real grip I have is - and the RC I'm using sometimes has software glitches . With the internet connection sometimes pages load pretty slowly - but once they're loaded - everything scrolls fine.
Besides " extra features " like screen size, speakers, and hdmi, etc --- what are the noticeable performance benefits of say - an Asus transformer compared to Nook Color
I too am waiting for a Quad core - " thin " tablet - with longer battery life - for around 400 before I'd upgrade - as the NC really does mostly all I need. and it's Hack friendly for an android greenhorn.

I have the same deal here; rooted/phiremod NC that I love, and just got a Tab 10.1. Love it!! It weighs the same as the Color Nook!! The bigger screen really makes a big difference, and I like the widescreen orientation over the *cough* *cough* iPad2. The thing has frozen up on me a few times, and takes a second to re-orient when you flip it, but I think those things are HC-based and should be addressed in the much-anticipated update to TouchWhiz in a few weeks.
For me, the jury is still out on HC. I like the original OS a bit better, in certain ways. But, you can just run a different Launcher, if you really prefer that. I'm just getting used to it, I suppose. Seems a bit too "unstructured", I guess. With iOS and Froyo, (if you want it to be), it's all neat and orderly. My guess is I will get into it and fix it all up the way I want it to look and I'll prefer it.
I have heard that iOS is getting widgets... If Apple would throw in a microSD slot it would be impossible to resist. But, that'll never happen. and therefore, I will never have an Apple device. (yes, the Tab doesn't have one, either, but they do have an optional dongle that allows you to connect different USB devices, including a USB thumb drive)
So, I last night took my NC and brought it back to factory settings and updated it to 1.2. I will likely re-root it and just add the Market and some apps back on, but leave the original launcher, so whoever I sell it to can use all the functionality of the device - like reading magazines, which you can't do with the Nook app.

Who's upgrading to Galaxy Tab 7.7?

I'm getting the 7.7 for sure when it is out!
I was debating whether to get an iPad2 whilst on holiday in Florida as prices are cheaper than UK.
But then the 7.7 came out!
Android > iOS FTW
WHAT ABOUT YOU GUYS?
- yes
- no
- not sure.
Please share your opinions! Whether you think it is a worthy upgrade or not!

Hi, I have an Archos 70 Internet Tablet, and I'm going to upgrade to the new Samsung Galaxy TAB 7.7, as soon as it's on the stores.
May be if available in Europe !

I'll be getting it as soon as it comes to Canada. I've been waiting for this tablet for quite some time.
if they sell it in US and the price is under $400, then I will get one. I have both Galaxy tab 7 and 10.1.
To be honest, I love my tab 7 more since it so easy to hold and most of the apps/games are compatiable with Gingerbread.
10.1 is nice and fast.. but it is a little bit too thin and too large. hahah.. I am probably the only one to complain the "thin".
Anyways, the 8.9 is still too large to hold by one hand (I have a small hand) as well as my 5 years son.
Tab 7 is almost perfect for me except the CPU is a little bit slow, there are some lagging..opening apps/games..
So, 7.7 is dual-core (small size) is perfect for me. Hope Samsung keeps the price low.. Anyways, I am selling the 10.1 Anyone?

I'm thinking about jumping over to the xoom or acer a500, i am really cheesed off with the lack of support from samsung.
I bought my P1000, 3 days ago.. So now I am still ultra-happy..
I saw that 7.7'' but when will it come out..I could not wait..
I LOVE that amoled screen (after some time using P1000 than switch to My Galaxy S phone to do something.. only then I see that BIG diference between screens)
Anyway what is most important to me and if someone can answer me, as far as I can see this new tablet 7,7' will NOT have that she.t of nVidia Tegra..
So can I presume that new tablet it will support all video codec's as Tab P1000?
If it will I am definitely selling this (new one ) and geting 7.7..
Definitely gonna upgrade, but I dont think its gonna come out soon
and before that, I would love to taste the Ice Cream Sandwich 1st on the original tab
if the taste is good enough, i might prolong my tab life before upgrading since ICS is newer than honeycomb and prolly have better features too
I would never get an iPAD unless the incorporate some sort of cell phone capability, be it a remote device that belt clips with a display or actually on the ipad.
I love the SGT 7" that I have, it is perfect, for cell calls, and surfing the web. Think carefully, do you REALLY want to help the Apple machine make more money?
Does anyone know when it is coming out?
Actually when the last Galaxy tab 7 was released, could we buy it unlocked somewhere?
I ask because I need the new 7.7 to work with Bell. I already have a Bell 3g SIM card ready to go.
Thanks
If I could I would.
Once I have the money for the tab 7.7 ill definetley buy it.

Let's see, it's 7.7 so that's too big for a small tablet, won't fit in a pocket any more...
It runs Honeycomb rather than a phone version of android, I don't like honeycomb on larger tablets and surly its even worse on smaller screens... I have also yet to see an ambled screen that beats a common LCD (Galaxy Tab 7, iPhone 4, iPad all look much better than the Galaxy S 2 screen and it's supposed to be one of the best).
That means it can't replace my Galaxy Tab and it can't replace my iPad as it's smaller and would be missing some apps (mail and calendar for starters, android just can't compete with on that front IMO)...
So no, I won't be downgrading any of my current tablets
i like my galaxy tab 7 but im not sure if im going to invest in any more Samsung devices after they kinda wrote off this device as a red headed step child.
Ive put some thought into it and either the 7.7 or 8.9 would be nice i love the fact the 7 fits in my pocket. 7.7 has what i want and that's honey comb tables I'm a medical student and some of the apps like Google body are very useful.
So ya i think I'm gonna hop ship to 7.7 just hope there's a lot of good development on it get rid of that tw ux garbage
correction if http://sammyhub.com/2011/09/05/galaxy-tab-7-7-and-galaxy-note-pricing-for-scandinavian-countries/ is correct then no i will not be upgrading that's some insane pricing.
After using my tab as my phone for 12 months I've recently got myself a SGS2. I love the s2 and I really must disagree in regards to screen and picture quality. The S2 is far superior to my eyes. I miss my tab though, and have found it is used as a wifi device around my home as my primary portal to interwebs and the world! Its perfect and with the car kit set up in my kitchen (suction cup works well on my benchtop) it is extremely convenient and I love how connected I feel even when cooking breakfast! Its fantastic. The S2 is about to be violated and I'm hoping this'll breath new life into it but I can absolutely see myself going back to a tablet of around 7 or 8" and don't ever carry my 7" tab in my pocket so would lean towards the larger device... I would like to see a device that is a phone that goes inside a tablet that docks either @ your entertainment hub or in your car or both. The phone would be the primary CPU and such with each step providing supplementary hardware enhancing the GPU and CPU and memory extra. Or a more solid mirroring across devices.. its frustrating not being able to just put one device down and being able to continue seamlessly on another device.. its kinda exciting when you think how easy some of this would be with current tech.
I have more ideas.... but I've said too much already.. patents pending Nobleskill Inc.
;-)

I'll get the Galaxy Tab Plus, not the 7.7 one.
7.7'' is too large for my pockets and if a tab is not pocketable then it's useless to me. The Galaxy Tab Plus will have Android 3.2 and the same 7'' screen as the current tab. I'll stick to this form-factor forever (or just not upgrade my tab :-D).
Here's more info on the Tab Plus: http://thisismynext.com/2011/09/20/galaxy-tab-spotted-7-inch-honeycomb-tablet-t-mobile/
Dont think I will
I have been using the 7" for about six months and it satisfies everything I need. I can do my work on the go, remote some PC's that need fixing, surf, youtube and even gaming!!!
I don't think I will upgrade just for the sake of having a faster device as I haven't noticed any slowdown on this device.
The screen on this device I think is brighter than the s2 screen and clearer, maybe amoled is only for people with blue eyes!!!

Should I get rid of my galaxy tab 7????

Is there any hope for the galaxy tab 7', their is hardly any development for it. Its been like a year now and they only have like four roms for it....
don't do it yet me and oldmacnut are trading tabs he can't test 3g cause he had a sprint tan and he's on verizon I'm on sprint with a verizon tab were planning on putting a lot of work into this nice device.

you must be crazy, the gtab is pawning all tegra 2 tablets so hard when it comes to playing hd movies its not even funny anymore, it came to a point where I wish I was able to scream and shout (with vulgarities included) at the dicko from Nvidia who came up with that incredibly stupid processor.
for myself , i bought the galaxy tab 10.1 3g , and i still have my gtab use it as a phone xD
I just bought one after lots of research into 7" tabs. I think it's the best 3G tab on the market still. What other 7" tabs can compare to it?

I don't see what difference development makes, if it fills your needs for a tablet, why sell it? If it doesn't fill your needs for a tablet, why wouldn't you? Mine still fills it's role just fine and it still fits in my pocket...a leading reason why I still have it and my iPad was stolen.
I just bought mine (seven days ago) because still it's one of the best tablets..for me at least..
I needed tablet which will suport ALL video formats and this little guy is doing that perfectly..
Only time whan I will consider replacing it, is when 7.7" comes out.. (but I think that price will be ridiculous, so..) because of SAMOLED and as far as I can see i don't have that retarded Tegra crap..
PS.
Only thing I would like to know is - Can we expect Ice Cream for our P1000?
If the galaxy tab had a keyboard dock like the transformer, I'd keep it for a long time

As I recall from somewhere I read, Samsung / Google guarantee that android device would get at least 2 OS updates
since we didnt get honeycomb, i think even Samsung will give ICS for us 7 tab owner
especially if the other smartphone that starts with froyo with roughly same specs can get ICS maybe, why wouldn't we?
