Hi i was hoping someoune could help me decide on a rom..
I am looking for a rom with multitasking and if possible sense ui (or similar (i like the facebook updates on contacts and htc widgets).
Thank you
Ethey
voila
If U want great Gingerbread choose this
on the other hand, if You prefer 1.6 donut flash Donut by Laszlo V2
best sense.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807183
Thank you
Thank you both for your replies.. i am currently on Rolexs and Xillius's roms... (Nandroid/Bart)
I am looking ofr a rom with multitasking a must though... as these are gingerbread roms they dont multitask...
But again thak you for your input
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811620
if your looking for a multi-tasking rom stick to donut or eclair.....although donut probably best for multi-tasking and then for sense ui im sure if you use something like super D they have a sense theme somewhere about lol
Being honest the best ROM here is definitely FroyoByLaszlo. Now, I know the thought of having Gingerbread on your phone is promising, but I was using COS-DS for a while and for about 2 weeks it was great. The updates were becoming too frequent and also I was having many problems with memory. Since moving back to FroyoByLaszlo I've been so impressed with the speed of the phone.
Anyways, there's not much difference between Gingerbread and Froyo, except for just VoIP calling and a few UI tweaks.
If you like the HTC Weather/Clock widget, search for 'Old Fancy Widget apk' on the internet and I'm sure you'll find it (HTC asked them to remove it, they've now updated it and it's nowhere near as good-looking).
i use ezgingerbread. almost pure aosp gingerbread. fastest and lightest gb rom ive seen. does everything i need
best froyo- Froyo by Lazlo
best gingerbread- COS GB or GingerYoshi
sense- gotta go with Xillius's sense rom. so fast!!
best mutitasking. SuperD or SuperE.

Sorry for such a general question but, what's the best, fastest and most stable rom up to date? Something that runs on the Hero layout would be nice =). I am currently running MoDaCo's Hero rom(5.3) which is quite fast, but seems a bit outdated now. I've tried other roms like Eclair 2.2 and KingKlair's 1.0 rom(which was incredibly slow and had FCs D. If anyone could give me suggestions(don't say search bar, as that thing hates me) to what roms are good it'd be great . Sorry if I'm asking too much here, but some eyecandy would be good too =D.

Herver's EclairOG
Do you know if video on that rom lags ._.' as some Ecalir roms I've tried had laggy video whenever I tried to view something.
all eclair drivers will have problems playing video since there are no video drivers that have been released for the G1/MT3G...
That news is quite depressing :'(. Guess I'll just stick with Modaco's until a fix arrives.
best rom

in my opinion super D 1.6 or 1.6.6 < waiting for 1.7 should be out any time. are the BEST roms. fast, no problems so far. and runs market and all the good stuff...
idk if it's what your looking for since it's not much for eye candy, but it's an efficiant rom.
hope i helped
super D 1.6 is amazing. I loved it, and still have it on my switchrom for when I need a fast phone. Other than that I use MLIGN 3.2B hero. Maybe wait it out a few months until switching to espresso. Happy flashing
honestly, the best advice i can give you is to just try out different roms. each rom runs differently on every different device. xROM Eclair by JAC runs beautifully for me. absolutely amazing, but for someone else, it may be awful. it's all about how it does on your device, so just try out different ones and pick the one that suits you best.
I would recommend CSDIv1...its super fast and stable. But if you do like Sense UI, I use MLIGN Hero 3.1B...but as grandomegabosses recomended, I suggest you to try each rom and decide by yourself, because not everybody have the same setup, ie. Swap, Ext, Swapiness, Clock...and that may cause differencies of speed on one phone and another
Best ROM up to date
King's AOSP 2.1 [v1.2] hands down!
The fastest and most stable Eclair rom yet. It has tons of eye candy and lightning fast for an eclair rom.
Flash it now!

No, it's not a lockscreen at all. It's the Clock app for Eclair that comes with the rom.

Thanks for all the help, ended up going with Super D's rom and I must say this rom is hella fast =)
Best rom to date is the stock rom on Nexus
Hi there, I'm running the 3.22.26.16 RADIO on my 32B Donut Dream.
I see there are alot of new roms out these days, and I'm greatly interested in 2.0 and up as i'm starting to find apps that I'm restricted from using.
I am looking for something fast and stable. Are the new roms faster now w/ jit? is the switch worth it? what do you run?
Thanks

Fun phone = 2.0 and above
Fast phone = 1.6
Sorry, but the G1 just isn't designed to run anything above 1.6. The developers here have done an amazing job to make the 2.0 experience as great as possible on the G1's limited hardware, but speed and loadings time, though not apparent at first, will definitely become an issue.
I have used everything from JesusFreke 1.41 through SuperE and FroYo, and I have to say that so far that the best ROM is SuperD, a 1.6 Rom by Ben Buchacher.
However, with the nice recovery images around lately, it is pretty easy to try out different ROMs, so I say just give 1.6 and 2.2 both a try, and see what you like and see if the speed trade off is worth the many more features presented in 2.2.
Thanks for the advice peeps, i've installed FroyoRedux Mod v1.2 and so far so good. Much faster than i'd expect... and dear i say faster than donut??
Helping out a friend with a Hero...gettin him rooted, and wanna install a custom ROM for him....

If you want a Froyo rom that is stable, there are stable releases of both ASOP and CM6, check out the dev section, they are some of the more active threads. It's all in what they want, if they want stability and all of the features, choose CM6, if you want bare bones, snappy performance without all the bloat, choose an ASOP rom. Both can be themed easily and there are themes in the theme and app section.
CM 6.1.2 has been very stable for me. Considering a Gingerbread ROM too (asop).
I've used AOSP 2.2 and CM 6.2 found here on XDA and they both run Android 2.2 pretty good, but I found that some of my Tasker tasks would stutter when playing audio sounds and alarms for some reason. So, I'm not sure what that's about.
I'm presently using the latest NFX 2.32 (Android 2.1) which is based on the latest official Sprint/HTC offerings since my Tasker tasks don't stutter on it. I'm over-clocked with apps to SDcard enabled which makes the Hero work much better. The performance boost from the measly stock 528mhz to a stable 691mhz makes the Hero actually perform better, and I have over 120mb of internal phone memory remaining with over 50 apps loaded at this time.
But, I would still like to have Android 2.2 since it has Bluetooth voice dialing and bluetooth voice commands, and other things like Chrome to Phone. I just can't live with my Tasker tasks stuttering though.
Yup..unfortunately I have not liked any of the 2.2 Roms out there for our Hero. It just always seems to not run something properly or smoothly.
I am currently using Liquidsense 2.1. This is the fastest ROM i have ever had on this phone. I personally like the stock sense look and feel while taking advantage of A2SD.
hi...
last night i ported honeycomb 3.0 on my G1, and was hoping for a special experience, but as tonnes of things failed to work, flashed sense hero v1.5.
i have G1 qwertz, so the keyboard response is not perfect in the rom.
i have tried a number of other roms also. ginger yoshi was nice but had some problem with my network. froyo yoshi-i didnt hoo with that for long....
cm6 was okay...
i am loving the UI of sense rom though...
also, i had bought an extended 2850mAh battery on eBay but i dont think it's performing the way i expected 4-6 hrs at max on these roms
any suggestions??
thanks in advance...
btw, my 1st Qn.....
lol even though it's your first question... there are over 100 posts of people asking the same question... and the same answer applies... depends on the flasher (you)
now you say you like sense roms, only downfall is NO sense rom, i repeat NOOOO sense rom for the G1 has a working camcorder or bluetooth... NONE!!!! lol
k now that i got that out the way...
my suggestions...
1st. my rom of coarse SenseLX (great rom and the team and i keep it up to date and add features here and there for people in need, all you have to do is ask...)
2nd.. gingerbread with sense thisrom is still in development but omg it is amazing!!! trust me just try it you will be impressed... i haven't tested it in a while because i been busy keeping my rom updated but last time i tried it my mind was blown!!!! simply amazing for a G1 lol
3rd... Magic Sense this rom is by namit1994, who was a great help in the development of my SenseLX rom, he recently ported this rom for the G1 and has been busy working on it so you should be impressed with this also if you like sense
besides those 3.. you just have to read around the forums and kinda figure out what you like most... there many varieties of sense roms for the G1, people have worked very hard on these roms so they would appreciate a simple click of the thanks button! lol as would I but yeah so good luck with your rom hunt and dont forget to thank the developers for all there hard work!!
thnx a lot
will try sense lx 1st...
wanted a gingerbread only, basically...
thnx again!!!
You can also try SuperAosp 6.4, it had been doing good for me and I am happy with it.
I'm using Froyo by Laszlo for about 5 months, that's a great and stable rom.
Cyanogen is good
Just flashed Cyanogen 7.1. It's nice, true.
is cm 7 stable??? heard it's not yet...
flashed ginger yoshi(again)...it's nice and speedy...i have problems at times regarding my network(receiving messages)...can that be because of the radio(2.22.28.25) atm...
i tried the sense roms, but they take up some amount of space making the device a wee bit slow for me cos ds looked decent though
So, CM-best?
Hi guys and girls,
Im beginner around here, so be patient with me.
So, ok, when i was reading the first reply, i was like, yes, sence is nice. Have tried some Hero rom on my G1, that was on an sdcard that i got with the phone. Putted it using rom manager on it. But then somehow i felt that those eye candy things are less important for me then nice functionality of the system.
So as i see CM is most complete and most popular rom that should be quite good. Or one of the best i guess.
But i what i am wondering. I have now CM6 on my G1. And sometimes its kind of a littlebit slow you know. So one question i have, would an earlier version CM5 for example be some kind of faster? Althou i have read on wikipedia android page that "2.2 (Froyo) introduced speed improvements with JIT optimization and the Chrome V8 JavaScript engine". And that CM6 is based on 2.2. So it kind of not supposed to be slower.
Basicly Microsoft Exchange support would be nice to have for me. Because im IT pro and it was nice expirience to have both, personal and work email on my last phone i used (nokia 5800). As i see CM5 can do that. Since exchange support is since version 2.0/2.1 as i see on internet. But then would CM5 be any faster then CM6? And is CM7 slower?
Also bluetooth and camera support is pretty nice to have. So i would rather go with CM i think then, then with SenceLX. Althou its nice to have something like that. Let's imagine if i didnt need bluetooth and camera, then i can use it i guess.
Thanks in advance,
MVG,
Nikolai
edit: or is it time to get a faster phone? Because i actually just got the G1. Because i havent found anything better with full keyboard. And BB 8520 has no GPS, and no auto focus, and no Android. So i took G1. But i guess it maybe can be better with something faster. Tell me what do you think.
sense lx looks wow!!!! pretty good...but i couldnt have it running for me as a daily use rom....i was on eclair, htc clay's super bad for almost 7 months and loved it...also tried a few froyo's which were nice....
didnt fancy cm's much....
yoshi is really good...ginger yoshi ofcourse better than froyo yoshi...
also, cos ds gingerbread is worth a try!!!
mind u, for all the gingerbreads u need to have the latest radio and spl(2.22.28.25 or 2.22.27.08 with 1.33.0013)...
if you want smoothness and functionality i would suggest a stable froyo rom, but update your radio to 2708/2825 for the extra 15mb ram hack adds some speed to the device... my personal favorite was froyo by laszlo with ezbifftest 2708 kernel but it hasn't been updated in so long so im sure there's more stable froyo roms available... i've just been busy keeping senselx up to date and currently me and maximo are building a froyo rom from source so once thats at a stable point i will reccomend it and would love some testers and opinions
THAT'S LOVELY...WOULD LOVE TO TRY THE FROYO, STABLE OFCOURSE!!!!
currently hooked to gingeryoshi
I like Ginger Yoshi also.
I see here is great info on topic.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079194
i know there are many threads out there on this but i have both answers and questions to put out there and i wanted to start fresh.
so first of all for our slow little G1s we need the most up to date radio/spl which you can get here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
there are a lots of favorites out there so here are mine
1.6 - superCSDI (thanks [email protected])
2.1 - super e (thanks benbuchacher)
2.2 - froyobylaszlo (thanks laszlo)
2.3 - ezgingerbread (thanks ezterry)
sense roms... not my favorite so ill let someone else answer that
ok so we have rooted our phones, updated the radio/spl, and we have tried everything in the rom bible (thanks RoyalKnight i wish you still updated this) and just about every other rom we can get our hands on, yes we are nerds, yes we are nostalgic (or poor) since we still use the g1, but what can we use day in and out?
so i have been playing with some old roms again, namely superE, and i must say with the 2708+ and an updated launcher it really can come back to life to be a daily use rom (again). still i miss some of the sparkle in the newer froyo and gingerbread (power control widget in notification bar, newer apps, etc) but it is clean and has a bit less lagginess than these newer ones.
maybe its just me but i want some thoughtful thoughts on this, what is best for those of us who like speed and flare?
oh and please give a little more info than just the name of the rom, why is it the best and what are the optimal settings so others can try and see if they agree, thanks!
(sorry for making this sound like it should be posted on blogger)
Nonsense is a very nice cupcake (1.5) rom
One of the fastest
And has a nice htc ime that's lighting speed
The dialer is also lightning speed
It doesn't really need much setup
I used it with a regular cm6 left over radio/spl setup
I had like 96mb swap
But I don't remember if it supports ext or not

forgive the necromancy, but I HAVE to chime in.
I have only had a G1, no other phone. I have had one for 3+ years. All that time I have only tried HTCclay's Superfast. a few variations of SuperCSDIv4 (90% of my use) and now Superbler with RAM hack.
I have yet to see a downside moving from Donut based SuperCSDIv4 to Froyo based Superbler. Not even speed is an issue. I really recommend you check this ROM out!
i remember that rom, but i dont remember liking it too much... so upon your recommendation and necromancy, i tried looking it up - found the rom (version4) but i cant find any of the themes that were to go with it, at least not the theme links
ill try out the rom again either way but do you know where i can find a good link to the theme?
The Themes by DorianX for ICS are awesome, they are for FBL too, you can just flash it over your FBL ROM and you have a beautiful theme installed on your chubby, ugly G1
I don't know about themes. It came themed well enough for me. I love this ROM.
Alright. Update. My new favs
1.5 - Nonsense Cupcake Revolution
1.6 - Donut By Laszlo
2.1 - *shrug* idk yet.
2.2 - FroyoCreamSandwich
2.3 - CM7
Sense - Liberty and of course the old 1.5 sense ROMs
Right now I am LOVING donutbylaszlo. I've installed so much junk on it and it still doesn't lag.
