Just loaded Xboxexpert's BuildsFroyo 2.2 , everything seems to work just right except the video performance. I have a video I took with my G2x that won't even play , and a mp4 video that plays very choppy. Normally I would ask in the original thread but is has been closed.
Is there something else I can do to smooth out the video choppiness , maybe try a different rom....a better video player...
Please let me know
Try out Mobo Player Neon, but frankly, i would say ditch Froyo, and go with the more modern CM7 (Gingerbread). Support for Froyo is all but dropped, with all active devs (devs, not themers) working on Gingerbread or greater.
If you do go CM7, i still suggest MoboPlayer (with the Arm7Neon codec if needed)...

Hey guys, i downloaded rockplayer from market but cant seem to run it right. Every time i run avi video it crashes. Im running Froydvillain 1.7.2
does anyone have a clue whats wrong?
It seems that it doesn't work properly in froyodvillain....
try flashing latest floyo 1.2..
seems this helps you.
Same with the FROYO_2.2_Special_Edition_RC1_update1 (elelinux)
i suggest arcmedia player. i tried almost video type from my pc, all playable (high bitrate =laggy)
Or you can also try QQplayer, I have been using it for a while and there is no lag whatsoever, pretty excellent player made for low end devices.
i suggest you try using seamanplayer it works great on my hero. i had problems with rockplayer.
With all the new roms forcolor nook out what is the status of its ability of playing videos, especially 720 mp4 and mkvs downloaded from the internet without having to reencode the files?
Which rom/player combination is best for this?
I'd like to know also. Currently using Rockplayer on HC from the EMMC, and videos from my camera shot at 640x 480 and esp 848x480 are quite slow and jerky. Definitely not something to show someone else.
Anyone have recommendations?
DSP/HW accel is not working in all non-stock roms and is being worked on, but even in the stock rooted, I doubt it plays 720p well enough, unless it's been encoded into an mp4 or something that's natively supported.

That is not true. Hardware decoding works in Froyo, just not in CM7 or HC.
It is true that files need be rencoding in compliant MP4 files for them to work. You need a dual core tablet for downloaded mkv support.

My bad - I only tried nookie froyo on the SD and used it for less than 10 minutes.
I can't get hardware to work in Froyo on either Vital player or Rock Player. Anyone getting hardware decoding to work on Froyo?
How are you doing it?
no hardware accceleration on nookie froyo either for me. Able to play 720p AVI smoothly by using vital player neon on software decoding.
If working hardware decoding means that mp4 can be played with standart Movies application, than yes, it works for me in Nookie Froyo on eMMC.
Sounds like Nookie Froyo is the one to get (for now) if you want h/w acceleration for video.
I've been trying to get high quality video to run on my 2.1 NC for a few days and can't seem to get the audio to match up with the video. mp4 video, 800x480, 1200 bitrate, 25 gps looks great but the sound is off. Pissed.

That bitrate is slightly too high.
I tried all the video players I could grab from the market with my rooted NC.
Rockplayer actually doesn't seem to be very good. It lagged at times. I'm not sure it's using full hardware acceleration, or maybe it's not able to fully use or is not recognizing the NC's hardware acceleration.
The best player for getting finicky files to work was vPlayer. It has a "high quality" mode which I'm guessing supplements the hardware acceleration with software decoding to make up for features which the hardware doesn't support. It was able to play video files that the stock video player and others refused to play. I think it was playing them slower than full speed though - was hard to tell with the video samples I used.
It is a pay app with a free trial. When not in "high quality" mode, it would still play the finicky video files, but with visible errors in the decoding. A couple of the other players also did this. I guess instead of refusing to play, they just throw the file at the hardware and display whatever comes out. But vPlayer was the only one with an option to "fix" the errors. If you're not encoding your own videos, definitely give this one a shot.
I'm using mVideoPlayer for now. It's limited to the same file formats the stock player can play, but I really like the interface (swipe to seek forward/back, long-press in corners to adjust volume/brightness). And it automatically generates lists of videos from a customizable directory list. No more having to search through a file browser - my videos on both the emmc and microsd now show up in one big list.
The main problem is you need a back button to use it. If you don't hit back to stop playing a file, the next time you try to play any video file, it resumes playing the old file where you left off. But if you use softkeys to give you a back button, it puts an ugly circle on top of your video...

Not really true. My Samsung galaxy plays 720p mkv's without issues. That's a single core phone.
I think in reaility we just have to wait for hardware decoding to be ported over.
really hope dev can get h/w acceleration going for custom rom, especially cm7. On related issue, my NC with cm7 can play flash video and frame rate is low though (looks like slide show with 360P video).
Not NC related (haven't rooted yet), but having just played with (thanks to this thread) vPlayer, I can say it is definitely the superior program. My EVO handled a 720p .mkv file that rockplayer gave 6-10fps on, it was watchable and had no sync issues besides the occasional slow-down.
+1 for the tip.
I believe hardware decode works on Android 2.1 Auto Nooter 3.0. I have that installed and it works in rock player and vital player.
One thing to note is the hardware decoder can only decode a max width of 854. So your 720p files will not work with hardware encoding. You will have to re-encode the files.
I used this guide http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...using-handbrake-convert-video-nook-color.html and it seemed to work fine.
Hello,
I have LG P990 with stock froyo.
When I play a xvid video (not HD), the video is smooth and the sound is ok but there is a constant 1 sec desynchrnisation. There is the same issue with RockLite player in hardware decoding mode, but in software decoding mode, the video is fine !!
How to solve this?
MIUI+Celebration+HD+2.0.5+DE-EN+iphone+Beta+2+signed
I have MIUI+Celebration HD+2.0.5 on my LG Speed and yes it´s a better version of Miui. Even better Galnet´s MIUI, and i can send the web link too those who wanna it.
What is the relation between your answer and my question? And for most people the leaked v20e or topogigi rom is the best choice.
No problem here, I converted a 1080p mkv song to xvid and it played perfectly without any audio delay. Try playing the file with Mxvideo player, thats the best media player for me.
I use Mx player too ! For all videos, I can always play them with either Hw or software mode.
Are you on stock or a custom rom. If on stock update it to the latest version.
Been enjoying Gr4 for the last few days (great ROM) but just like with stock v20e b4, im experiencing bad flash performance. I cannot do more than 360p on youtube and on youtube test page at http://www.youtube.com/my_speed i get [email protected] and a miserable 4fps on 720p. Back in august when i tried a cm nightly, i remember having fluid 720p playback on yt but never again since then. It clearly seems to not use any hw acceleration at all, hence the slideshow. Has anybody else noticed that or actually been able to get fluid youtube hd (or any HD flash video streaming) performance lately? Is there some specific fix to this (considering the newest flash 11 too)? Appreciate any input.
peace
i'm on stock rom v10e and it sucks when play 720p on youtube with o2x. max 480p of flash player can be played on o2x

This is not quite true, on CM7 (some late august nightly) my o2x was running 720p youtube videos with no problem. There's got to be something we are missing
Yeah, same happens to me. I remember trying that nightly and 720p videos were smoothly played on youtube :S
laggy when playing 720p, i think the stock rom is always lag to play flash player. maybe CM and MIUI can player better then stock
Guys, i have a problem with my i9001.
My phone is rooted and i installed the gpu "new" drivers from the development page. I have upgraded from 2.3.3 that comes default when i buy it to 2.3.5 through KIES, not through ODIN, so it's with vodafone ****s or whatever.
Anyway, the problem is the following:
I want to watch some mkv .720p tv shows on it (like dexter, supernatural, etc) and i tried with a couple of players but every single player will decode the mkv in "SW mode" not hardware, so it won't play properly and it will lag. I tried with bsplayer, mx video player, mobo player pro and even DICEPLAYER (the full version).
So, any ways of playing 720p smooth ? i guess it's because of Adreno 205 which is weaker than Galaxy S gpu.
Come on, 130 views and no replies? sorry for double posting.
Oh, and i didn't installed any "speed" scripts like adrenaline shot or whatever.
Fact is i just bought the phone and i don't want to lose my warranty already. Do i lose it when i install adrenaline shot for instance ?
Update: My actual ROM is I9001BUKP2, which is Vodafone branded and my phone is simlocked (most likely).
Can this be the problem ?
Update 2: Very weird thing happened. I put an episode from The Walking Dead, 350 mb .avi to run with MX Video Player and surprise, even .avi LAGS in hardware decoder, but i'm lucky that MX Video Player got S/W Decoder FAST and it played almost smoothly (95%, still little fps drops).
After that, i tried with an episode of Grimm, this time 720p, .mkv but WEB-DL (even more better than normal 720p releases of groups like IMMERSE, CTU, etc) and the HARDWARE DECODER went AVAILABLE this time, but it lags terribly. I tried with S/W Decoder FAST and lol, it worked almost smoothly.
So, what the hell is the problem ?
Could it be my I9001BUKP2 firmware ? it's official, updated with KIES, i guess it's the same as this one on XDA.
bumpy ^^ ........
still bump .... come on :|
Update: I am now with XXKPS 2.3.6, still the same problems. MKV 720p are laggy, and every single .avi movie is laggy in hardware decoder as well. only softare decoder can decode avi movies to be smooth, but 720p still be laggy.
hey guys .. i curently have feamod v.1.3 based on CWM 5 0 2 7 .... what change if i flash 1.4 ? i use cranium RC7 update 1 with kernel v6 cranium 1900 ghz
but i wanna flash broodrom RC2 final but i don'w know what kernel to use... is v6 1900 cranium ok wit broodrom ?
Well then, how about re-encoding your movies using e.g. xmedia recode or SUPER or whatever? Choose a lower resolution. That's a phone, don't expect it to play HD content - on the small screen that does not make any sense at all.
Well, for others it works perfectly, only i seem to have problems. And anyway, samsung is reporting that this phone can run 720p movies without a problem.
@arialth, GET THE **** OUT.

same issue here, i tried a 720p movie on my i9001 and it used SW decoding in mx player.
I noticed one thing though, after installing mx, it didnt ask for any codec to be installed, i expected it to ask me to install the ARM7 codec??
Same problem here, the moment you want to watch a 720p mkv video you can't use HW decoder.
I am using 0.1.0 cm10 ROM from Ivendor with 3.0 Kernel.
Use VLC, it supports hardware decoding of all media formats.

Already tried that, I've done some search around and I think it just can't handle a 720p mkv.
Bear in mind that the I9001 has a better CPU but a worser GPU, so it's possible the I9000 is able to handle 720p mkv better.

Also, Samsung does indeed report that the device can run 720p movies in mp4 or whatever format.
Seeing as they're own video player doesn't have a mkv codec it is possible there just isnt mkv hardware support.
