I live in queens and go to school in midtown(Baruch) I could do it for ya. But I'd have to charge ya something(you actually would be my first client of the IT consulting company I started today)
You don't have to fiddle with Fastboot if you didn't apply to 2.2.2 update, FYI. You can simply use SuperOneClick, and then flash CWM and DJ_Steve's StreakDroid7 ROM.
So how much am I looking @?
You still have to have a pc to do SOC. My only pc is a laptop that runs vista and SOC wont run on it for me.

I used Vista to get CWM, then rooted rom. Just use drivers pre-loaded on
The sdcard.
When I try to use my laptop it says I need some Java JDK stuff and I have downloaded all the java JDK files I could and it still won't work. I was also told that SOC does not work on Vista so I gave up.

Not much man,, whatever you think is fair is cool with me. I can do it for you in just 5 minutes. I would do it for free but I'm trying to get my business off the ground and I have to start having that business mentality
SOC will only work if the DS7 isn't updated to 2.2.2, if it is flashing CWM recovery and a rooted Rom is the only option you have at the moment. I'm in DFW now, otherwise i'd say meet up at Austin Java Co or something ;b
I work at Georgetown airport mon thru fri, I am totally down for meeting anytime you want. Drop me a pm.

If you wanna put it in the mail ill do it for you. With a return label. But might I suggest holding out for a few weeks. Things may change with cwr.
sent from a tower
I'm in no hurry. So what could change with cwr that would help you root without fastboot?
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using XDA App
no it would still be fastbooted but we may have to rewrite cwr not sure yet though. stay tuned. but im serious if you want too send it to me with a return label ill be more then happy too do it for you.
I may take you up on that. Pm me your address and I may ship it out to you next week.

I dunno of anyone saw this yesterday or not by DJ_Steve. It seems our awesome and only streak Dev has gotten hardware acceleration in HC to work on the notion ink tab!
You guys are wondering how this is relevant to us streak7 users right?
Well in the details it says the rom he made for the notion ink tab as been ported to the streak7!!!!
I don't see a link for it from the site link on the video upload, but if anyone knows about it or happens to have the rom, I'm sure we would all love to test it out!

we all know already he post to his twitter if he doesnt post here and this is not development so you would need to have a mod move to general the development is mainly used for releases
Yes. Need to port the s7 kernel too 2.6.36. And possible have the touch driver modified. Ask around only thing holding it back atm

from what i read no hardware acceleration issues any more
I stand corrected sir. I miss read

Sorry for the error in where I posted this. I don't use twitter anymore so this was new to me until yesterday since I follow his YouTube channel.
Ill get this moved into the general forum. Since the development area is used for rom releases anyway? where is it?
Hellzya hate to act like a forum noob but could u help me out in the link for HC port? I know you are Dj_Steve's tester for his releases so Id like to try it out.

Honeycomb's going to be awesome, but let's not kid ourselves into believing this thing is a slouch with FroYo and DJ_Steve's ROM. If you have another, HC tablet, though, I could see your point.
This is my only tablet. For the price and specs, it couldn't be beaten regardless of what rom it's using. And it's definitely going to be something else when a ported version of hc comes out. I'm sure that's something we can all agree on (at least after it becomes stable lol)

I'm sure HC is going to be great, but I have no problems with Froyo; it does everything I need from a tablet. The battery remains as the biggest issue for me.

I honestly have not used this tablet enough to actually complain about it's battery life but that will come soon since I plan on using this a lot more this summer so I guess add me to the general consensus.

Same here, previously I was using BootCamp and a beta copy of Windows7, but had to delete BootCamp when I moved to a MacBook Pro and couldn't afford the 100GB partition. Now I use my sisters XP machine.
Thank you everyone,
think Im going to look for a cheap tower or laptop.
Lol lol x

You could just buy an OEM copy of XP off eBay and make a 10GB BootCamp partition, would be cheaper and easier.
I've been using Windows7 in a VMWare Fusion guest OS with no issues.
Use Heimdall.
Anyone tried using Wine?
Might be something I'd test out in my OSx86 drive, could be interesting!

KIES doesn't work with Wine, it doesn't get past the installer, something to do with the way Kies tries to piggy-back the hosts USB controller or something.

Coworkers bought his 32gb unit from Office Deport which was delivered today. It has ICS 4.0.3 and a bunch of test apps loaded. Also the screen DPI made it think it was a normal 10" tablet. He was really confused by the strange interface of it and lack of setup wizard and everything.
I would have just loaded the new firmware onto it but this unit has the screen lift issue pretty badly on the right side -- so he's going to return it. Can't believe they haven't sorted that issue out already.....

Those apps could be fun to play with.. Possibly the binaries too for anyone who wants to get all retro and downgrade Android.
Sadly he wants a working tablet so is returning it -- meaning I didn't get any time with it. If I had more time I would have tried rooting it and TiBacking up all the various test apps. Funny they let stuff like this get released to the world.

They probably just "accidentally" install it on very few tablets, in hopes a developer gets a hold of it and does some cool stuff
Reminds me of how a person got a CR-48 test Chromebook with a BIOS on it (CR-48's had EFI on them), and that person uploaded the BIOS somewhere, and then anyone with a CR-48 could flash that BIOS, and then install any OS they wanted

Haha, ya, you would think. Of course, since the N7 is so open already, nothing really needs to be leaked. (Look at the recent full Ubuntu for N7)

Couple of things. First, Win8 RT relies pretty heavily on the UEFI BIOS API set. While not absolutely required, it would make writing the shim a pain. Secondly, trust me when I say that Google did not "accidentally" release the CR-48 UEFI BIOS into the wild. Things happen on the assembly line.

Yea no doubt. If a 32gb was just updated recently it wouldn't of had ICS. So this suggests that Asus had 32gbs back during original production of the 8s and 16s.

Is anyone working on a way to root from windows ?
Sent from my MB886 using Tapatalk 2
I'm afraid not, my friend. Cause I heard that the way to retrieve root access now is based on something that only Linux has, so an alternative way to root on Windows means that it will be a brand new exploit.

If you install ubuntu on a USB drive it will boot off it without touching the windows install or the hard drive.
I use ubuntu on USB for DEV work as my primary machine is also used as a windows gaming box.
** I'm not a fan of windows, it's a necessary evil however.
actually i wanted to Make a script like one Click i hope ill work on it and ill make it but im not sure might be need help
3 things man
1.i would listen to everything mattlegroff has to say or at least listen to his perspective..(hes usually right when it come to this.)
2.usb with ubuntu 12.10 has a try button when you first turn it on so you dont actually istall it(as soon as you remove the usb ubuntu is no more on that computer.)
3.your coming to this site for answers and these people are all telling you how to do this without affecting your friends computer or the way it runs but this also gives them a chance to give it a test run and come to the conclusion that ubuntu is the best rigt now(at least thats what i did)
but either way man we cant twist your arm you are the only one that can root your phone so why not give it a try

I was wondering if ti would be possible to DUAL BOOT WIN RT & ANDROID on Nexus 7, pardon me if this is a stupid question as I'm a noob and I was just curious considering both the OS are built for ARM.

No.
Beamed from my Maguro.
Not happening legally. Windows RT must be properly licensed from Microsoft. Even if it could happen the rules of XDA wouldn't allow it because it would qualify as warez.
Dear Op,
You know the bracket you put in the title of this post. You know the [Q]?.
Yeah this post goes in Q/A not general.

Almost anything is possible. Probable is an entirely different story. As you've mentioned, the only way it could be done is with a prayed copy, as RT is not available as a standalone consumer product. Setting aside the legal and ethical aspect for a moment, it simply isn't a viable project.

The problem goes well beyond acquiring a (presumably non-licensed) copy of Windows RT (and even at this point, it would still be warez and thus unsuitable for XDA). You would also need to get a working driver set for the Nexus 7, which would make for some atrocious work (to say nothing of the ultimately poor battery life you'd probably see, since RT regrettably has no support for the companion core).
