Could A Custom ROM Cause This Problem?

Sorry for the vague title, but I don't know how to explain this in a short way.
I got my bill from Sprint today, and it was around $100 more than it should have been. I'm on the Everything Plus Referral plan, which of course includes Any Mobile, Anytime and includes Roaming. However, this bill is showing that even the calls to a friend on Sprint as Off Network(AM on bill). It also shows this to calls I made to people on Verizion. So they ended up charging me for 225 additional minutes, hence the extra $101.25. I'm currently running DamageControl v2.08.1. I haven't updated my PRL yet, so it's still 60664, but I don't think that should make a difference, considering I'm in a very small town and we don't get many new towers or carriers.
Sprint Tech Support is calling it a system glitch, and crediting the money back to me. They also refreshed my phone data.
I only rooted my phone maybe a month ago, so I'm still a newbie at this. So is there any way that could have caused this problem? I wouldn't think so, but I'd really appreciate those smarter than me to reassure me of this.
I haven't ever heard an issue like this before. I live in a crappy coverage area and haven't had any such issues since rooting my phone. It sounds like Sprint may be right calling it a system glitch, but I would keep an eye on your minute use online during this billing cycle just to be sure that it is fixed.
Thanks. I also forgot to mention that my phone has never said I was roaming, and I have every precaution in place - custom ringtone, alerts when receiving a call, and before using data services.
Hmm... it may just be that I'm tired, but isn't 2.08.1 an old version of DamageControl? If that's the case, then it is based on a Droid ERIS dump. Not sure why, but something may be conflicting since it's Verizon/Sprint.
I don't think that has anything to do with it, really. I've been running either DC2.08.1 or Aloysius (which is based off DC) and haven't ever had a problem like that.
It sounds like Sprint's system was not determining what was a landline and what wasn't. Since they gave you credit I wouldn't sweat it to much, but you might look and see if when you called a certain number if sometimes it was coming up as a mobile phone and other times a landline.

This is the most likely cause.
Thanks everyone. I was just a bit paranoid since I'm new to all of this, and the glitch happened right around the time I rooted my phone and installed a custom ROM. I feel much better now, as you guys know much more than I do about all of this.
EDIT: Ugh, Sprint just called a bit ago, and they're trying to tell me that I'm roaming like 90% of the time. Now, I have my phone set to Sprint Only, roaming alerts & special ringtones set, and I have NEVER even seen the roaming signal. I don't get what the problem is...is my phone just screwed up? I cannot afford an extra $100 on my bill, for something that is NOT my fault, and they're trying to tell me that they can't do anything because it's just my word saying that I'm not roaming.
*sigh* Looks like I'll have to un-root my phone so they can take it back and send me another.

"Jumping in Head First" or "I'm Thinking About Buying a Droid"

I've been stuck in the limbo that is WM for what feels like way too long. I was comfortable with it; I knew it. But recently I started a love affair with Android on my TP2 thanks to HaRET and my unending curiosity. So I put an listing up on craigslist asking if anyone had an Android device they wanted to sell at a reasonable price. Within minutes, I had an e-mail from someone almost a hundred miles away saying he had a Droid he would sell for $200.. Seems like a good deal as most of the Droids on e-bay are still >$300. Unfortunately, he wants to do this deal the day after tomorrow, and has committed to driving most of the way to my city to do it.
So I come to this wonderful community that I have lurked in for quite a while in the hopes that you can give me the heads up. What do I need to know, and what do I need to look for?
Naturally, the first thing I am going to do is call the big V and confirm that the ESN is clean. But what about the phone itself? Is there anything I need to look out for? Any known issues? I read something about the back of the screen getting scratched from the sliding mechanism in another thread. Is that just the plastic that gets scratched up, or can the LCD itself get damaged?
I have also read a lot about this "locked bootloader." I think I understand this as not being able to install custom roms, but still allowing you to root. I was under the impression that rooting your device basically took care of that, so now I understand that I was wrong, and will further research what rooting is on my own. But I also see that some people have custom roms available here on XDA and that others are running Froyo on their Droids. Its all very confusing, and under normal circumstances, I would take a few days to read, research, and teach myself. But at the moment, I feel a little under the gun, as this deal won't last forever.
Anything you guys or gals can tell me would probably be more helpful than you think. I feel like I'm trying to make the switch from XP to Ubuntu.. (heh) Any and all posts will be read. Thanks.
The Droid doesn't have a locked bootloader and can be rooted easily. I bought one just like you're thinking of, I don't even have VZW service.
I put Froyo on it and I like it even though I haven't rooted yet.

The back of the screen has a little layer of plastic to keep from scratching some of the plastic. It tears pretty easily, but it doesnt matter as it will not actually damage the LCDs/LEDs, just scratch the plastic back up a little bit.
The Droid does not have a Locked BootLoader, only the Milestone does. Some people do know how to get around this though.
Rooting a Droid is actually quite simple. All you need (if you are a n00b, like me and you) is to download the DroidRootKit from the web which does the most complicated work for you, while allowing you to do some of the simpler stuff.
When you Root, you are brought back to Android 2.0.1 and you cannot download apps, so you might want to download ROM Manager (Premium or Regular) and back it up for downloading Eclair and Froyo ROMs later.
If you do not want to do that, then you should download a ROM (ie, UltimateDroid) place it on your SD card after Rooting, and install that through SPRecovery or ClockWorkMod Recovery.
People who are running Froyo are either rooted and downloaded a custom ROM, or forced the update through the download at the Verizon site.
The first thing you do when you meet that guy is ask if it is Rooted or ever has been.
Then you ask him if it has ever had water damage or any problems with the LCD screen.
If he says yes to the first question, good.
If he says yes to the second or third question (water damages and/or LCD problems) then DO NOT BUY IT.

Im highly considering on turning my N1 in for a swap

So Im rooted and what not. Got the unlock symbol and I have a decent amount of dust under my screen which is just irritating me even tho u can only see it when the screen is black but its getting worse. I am hesitant about this just cuz i dont wanna have to root and do everything over again, plus i have some nice engraving on my phone. Any who, I am wondering what i might have to look out for, say, or expect from a swap. I hear about different screens... is that a good thing. Thanks in advance as I kinda need to get talked into this since the year mark is getting closer.
I mean, this happened kinda immediately as its been dusty for several months and its only 9 months old. I know its a known prob
EDIT: did my swap and should be recieving it today or tomorrow. Would you guys recommend I go to stock? Or just turn it in with Cyan6, or does it matter.
bump........
Personally, I'd go back to as near to stock as possible.

What to replace to change IMEI?

Bought a really nice Captivate on eBay about a year and a half ago when my carrier was swallowed up by AT&T. It came with the original box, paperwork, etc. and the numbers all matched up, so to me it was a clearly legit purchase and I've had no problems in the 18 months since I bought it ... until last night. (I no longer have any idea who I bought it from or how to contact him.) Last night out of the blue my phone was banned from the network, and long story short ... AT&T has the phone blacklisted and can't/won't clear it from their list. They're evasive as to why and what I find odd is the IMEI reported by the phone software doesn't match what's on the label. But again, never had a problem before last night. No amount of begging and threatening to switch carriers got me anywhere, even after escalating to different supervisors. AARRGGHH! So here I sit with a perfectly good phone that I can't use.
Seems the obvious solution is to rip it open and replace something with parts from a parts phone that isn't blacklisted. Might seem dumb, but what should I be replacing? I've already got it apart and am assuming it's the motherboard that holds the offending IMEI. Is that right? Aside from eBay, is there any reliable source for a replacement? I don't want to waste money replacing it only to find that the new one is also blocked. Or is there something I can do so the IMEI shown in the software is the same as what's on the label? I'm not trying to do anything illegal, just get my phone working again.
If it makes a difference, I'm running the stock 2.3.5 that came out around February, but rooted and unlocked. Could that be why the IMEI doesn't match and I took it all apart for nothing?
Thanks for any suggestions. I'm technically competent but almost completely inexperienced when it comes to phone hardware (and software), so please excuse my ignorance here.
Thanks again,
Brent
edit - oops. misread
I did just see that someone was talking about their IMEI being replaced by a generic IMEI, but that was due to flashing Jellybean. If you want to try to restore your phone to its own stock IMEI, you'll need to rebuild your /efs folder to get the phone to bring your correct IMEI back on. There's a thread in the development section that outlines how to do that.
My only other suggestion would be to go into a physical store (if you haven't already) and plead your case in person. People tend to be a lot more willing to work with you if they're dealing with you face-to-face instead of over the phone. Just state your case clearly, show them any materials you have to support your case, and be friendly with them. I would also suggest flashing back to full stock (unrooted) so they can't use that against you.
Thanks. I found that thread after posting but so far it has not worked for me. I just decided that for $30 it's not worth the hassle of trying to fix it on my own, so I'm sending it off to MobileTechVideos following recommendations elsewhere here.
Its super easy on the captivate. There's literally an app that restores it back to Froyo and the correct IMEI. Then you use the Kies to upgrade into GingerBread. If you got as far as rooting I'm sure you could do this.
Unfortunately I dont know what its called but I searched a lot and eventually you'll find it. It looks a lot like the Odin app

I figure for $30 (already spent; phone's already in the mail) it will save me the hassle of tracking down the software you mentioned, going through all the upgrade/root process, and restoring everything that was wiped out. Let's hope, anyway!

How do i make the big core disable work for Us

Come one sprint help me out. I got to big core disable and a zv6 tot how do we put em together to work for us
As a emergency backup type deal.
Now everyones bootlooping. And i dont know about u guys but no warranty for me cracked screen plus thermal paste mod.
I hate to buy another phone cause im not giving 200 for a motherboard.
I kinda like this old piece of junk.
Tool says once we gett rebooted in system we have to turn on 3 small cores.
No one is giving any advice in the g4 threads maybe you guys might be more inclined since the option isnt available to you either
Mine is bootlooping but i am out of the us and no way of fixing it. I am actually tempted to buy an h815(Unlocked good cellphone is what i am looking for) motherboard for the thing and actually swapping it but for the meantime i would like to make it work with this mod. Sadly most people are just repeating some sort of "Take it to the guarantee" mumbo jumbo instead of actually helping or not getting into the conversation because they actually dont know. I will not buy a new cellphone if am am changing countries again in some months.
